New York Times bestselling author and former special forces officer Brad Taylor ups the ante and goes all in talking his latest edge-of-your-seat Pike Logan thriller, DEAD MAN'S HAND.
DEAD MAN'S HAND:
To finally end the war between their nations, a rogue band of Ukranian partisans known as the Wolves teams up with members of Russia’s military intelligence to assassinate Vladimir Putin.
But Putin is aware of the traitors in his midst and assigns the loyal commander of the Russian National Guard to root them out. It’s a mission Victor Petrov is expected to undertake after he prevents Sweden from joining NATO—by assassinating a deputy minister of foreign affairs.
After receiving intelligence about the threat in Sweden, the United States sends Pike Logan to identify Petrov’s target—only for him to get caught in the crossfire between Putin’s agents and the Wolves. When the smoke clears, Pike makes no effort to stop the Wolves on their ultimate mission, believing it just, until he discovers that their operation has unimaginable consequences.
For Putin is preparing a devastating endgame: activating the Dead Man’s Hand nuclear response that will launch Russia’s missiles in the event of his death. . .

Artificial intelligence leads to shockingly real danger for the Gray Man in this latest entry in the #1 New York Times bestselling series.
A car accident in Japan.
A drowning in Seoul.
A home invasion in Boston.
Someone is killing the world’s leading experts on robotics and artificial intelligence. Is it a tech company trying to eliminate the competition or is it something even more sinister?
After all, artificial intelligence may be the deadliest battlefield gamechanger since the creation of gunpowder. The first nation to field weapons that can act at the speed of computer commands will rule the battlefield.
It’s an irresistible lure for most, but not for the Gray Man. His quest for a quiet life has led him to Central America where he and his lover, Zoya Zakharova, have assumed new identities. Eventually, they’re tracked down and offered a job by an old acquaintance of Zoya’s. He needs their help extracting a Russian scientist who is on the kill list. They reject the offer, but just being seen with him is enough to put assassins on their trail.
Now, they’re back on the run, but no matter which way they turn, it's clear that whoever's tracking them is always going to be one step ahead. Since flight’s no longer possible, fight is the only option left, and no one fights dirtier than the Gray Man.

In this episode, the Crew shares a drink with one of their favorite authors, Gregg Hurwitz, as they discuss his latest Orphan X thriller, "LONE WOLF."
About Lone Wolf:
Once a black book government assassin known as Orphan X, Evan Smoak left the program, went deep underground, and reinvented himself as someone who will go anywhere, and risk everything to help the truly desperate who have nowhere else to turn. Since then, Evan has fought international crime syndicates and drug cartels, faced down the most powerful people in the world and even brought down a President. Struggling with an unexpected personal crisis, Evan goes back to the very basics of his mission - and this time, the truly desperate is a little girl who wants him to find her missing dog.
Not his usual mission, and not one Evan embraces with enthusiasm, but this unlikely, tiny job quickly explodes into his biggest mission yet. One that finds him battered between twisted AI technocrat billionaires, a mysterious female assassin who seems a mirror of himself, and personal stakes so gut-wrenching he can scarcely make sense of them.
Evan's mission pushes him to his limit - he must find and take down the assassin known only as the Wolf, before she succeeds in completing her mission and killing the people who can identify her - a teenaged daughter of her last target, and Evan himself. Matched skill for skill, instinct for instinct, Evan must outwit an opponent who will literally stop at nothing if he is to survive.
What critics are saying:
“Crisp character delineation and a propulsive, forward-moving plot should keep new readers engaged. Another crackling caper for the solitary Orphan X.” --Kirkus Reviews
"The most fascinating and compelling Orphan X novel to date. Think Jason Bourne on steroids... Lone Wolf is one of the year's first must-read thrillers."
--The Real Book Spy

In this episode, New York Times bestselling authors Nelson DeMille and Alex DeMille prove that brilliance runs in the BLOOD LINES… We discuss their latest collaboration, an intricately constructed thriller that kept us guessing till the final page.
BLOOD LINES features the return of Army CID Special Agents Brodie and Taylor who are on the hunt for the cold-blooded murderer of one of their fellow agents.
Army Criminal Investigation Agents Scott Brodie and Maggie Taylor have been separated for five months following their last assignment, a dangerous mission in Venezuela to locate and detain an infamous Army deserter. Now, in Berlin, they are reunited and tasked with investigating the murder of one of their own: CID Special Agent Harry Vance of the 5th MP Battalion, an accomplished counterterrorism agent who had been stationed in western Germany, and whose body was discovered in a city park in the heart of Berlin’s Arab refugee community.
The authorities suspect this is an act of Islamic terrorism, but Brodie and Taylor soon believe there is more to this case. The reason for Vance’s presence in Berlin is unknown, and as Brodie and Taylor work to discover what the murder victim was doing in the days and weeks preceding his death, they become immersed in the many conflicts and contradictions of modern Germany—the Arab refugee crisis, the dark legacy of the Cold War and the Stasi secret police, and the imminent threats of a rising neo-Nazi movement. At the same time, they are butting heads with the authorities—both German and American—and facing a possible threat from American intelligence agents who fear that Brodie and Taylor might have learned too much about US clandestine operations during their mission in Venezuela.
Ultimately, Brodie and Taylor realize that the murder of Harry Vance was merely the prelude to a much more sinister future event—unless they can unravel the mystery in time to stop it.
Nelson DeMille is the New York Times bestselling author of twenty-two novels, seven of which were #1 New York Times bestsellers. The Crew interrogates Bill Schweigart about his fantastic new novel THE GUILTY ONE. Not allowed to take the fifth, Schweigart implicates himself as a damn fine author and a very funny man.
“A raw, visceral, hard-charging police procedural and a relentless thriller packed into one explosive novel. You’ll finish this book breathless.”—Lee Goldberg, New York Timesbestselling author ofMovieland
A hero cop thwarts a brutal murder and can’t remember a thing about it. But memories return—and so do the nightmares in this breathlessly paced thriller for fans of David Ricciardi and Michael Connelly.
Every town needs a hero—and Detective Cal Farrell fits the bill. He stopped an active shooter six months earlier, and now he’s become the darling of the Alexandria press. The problem is that Cal remembers nothing from that day. He’s working with a psychiatrist to recover his memories, but hasn’t had much luck.
Then, on one of his morning runs, he is once again the first on scene for a grisly discovery—a body hanging impossibly high on a tree. Soon there’s another victim, killed by a blade and dumped in a ravine. As the bodies begin to stack up, each staged more gruesomely than the last, Cal sees a baroque pattern to the crimes that no one else seems to understand—something out of legend.
As Alexandria dubs the serial killer “Old Town Jack,” Cal learns that the only thing a city loves more than creating a hero is tearing one down. And if he can’t get to the truth, this hometown hero might just be next in line for destruction.
The Other Side of Night is a thought-provoking, moving “head-spinner of a novel” (John Connolly) with intriguing narratives and plot swerves that will leave you reeling. By the end, you’ll be shaken as each piece slots satisfyingly into place.

The Crew is back... and so is Evan Smoak!
In this episode, the guys are joined by New York Times bestselling author Gregg Hurwitz to discuss his latest Orphan X thriller, THE LAST ORPHAN.
As a child, Evan Smoak was plucked out of a group home, raised and trained as an off-the-books assassin for the government as part of the Orphan Program. When he broke with the Program and went deep underground, he left with a lot of secrets in his head that the government would do anything to make sure never got out.
He remade himself as The Nowhere Man, dedicated to helping the most desperate when they have nowhere else to turn, which landed him back on the government's radar. Having eliminated most of the other living Orphans, the government will stop at nothing to end the threat they see in Evan. But Orphan X has always been several steps ahead of his pursuers.
Until he makes one little mistake...
Now the President has him in her control and offers Evan a deal — eliminate a rich, powerful man she says is too dangerous to live and, in turn, she'll let Evan survive. But when Evan left the Program he swore to only use his skills against those who really deserve it. Now he has to decide what's more important — his principles or his life.

Knight falls on the Crew Reviews as Yasmin Angoe returns with her latest novel, THEY COME AT KNIGHT. It’s another fascinating and entertaining hour with Yasmin as she details the inspiration behind her outstanding follow-up to last year’s HER NAME IS KNIGHT, reveals the challenges and anxiety that come with an encore performance, and gives us another wonderful impression of her budding legend of a mother.
Yasmin Angoe’s THEY COME AT KNIGHT is the heart-pounding second installment in the Nena Knight series about an intrepid female assassin who will stop at nothing to protect her family.
"A lethal tale of an all-but-superhero whose author promises that ‘in this story, there are no heroes.’”
For elite assassin Nena Knight, eliminating dangerous players on the world stage is part of the job. The Tribe, a powerful business syndicate in Africa, ensures that she has those opportunities. But for Nena, the Tribe is more than just her employer; it’s an organization that supports the African people—until it turns on itself.
As Nena embarks on a new mission, a violent siege by a paramilitary group throws the Tribe into chaos, and mysterious acts of violence plague the Tribe’s territories. As the attacks escalate, Nena suspects a different kind of enemy at play: someone on the inside, determined to undermine the Tribe’s leaders.
As this new threat closes in on her own family, Nena enlists a team to root out the danger. But as she gets closer to the truth, she will have to risk everything to protect the future she holds dear—even if it means facing off with an enemy she never expected.

Adam Hamdy rejoins the Crew from the other side of the world to discuss THE OTHER SIDE OF NIGHT. Just as Adam left the comforts of home in England to explore a new land with his family in Mauritius, he left the confines of the conventional thriller to explore mind-bending new territory in the genre with a book unlike any other.
“I couldn’t stop thinking about the story’s incredible twist…like no crime novel I’ve ever read.” —James Patterson
For fans of Matt Haig and Anthony Horowitz, an “intriguing and thought-provoking” (Liv Constantine, author of The Last Mrs. Parrish) novel in which the lives of a disgraced police officer, a prolific author, and an upstanding citizen are inextricably bound together by a series of mysterious deaths.
The Other Side of Night begins with a man named David Asha writing about his biggest regret: his sudden separation from his son, Elliot. In his grief, David tells a story.
Next, we step into the life of Harriet Kealty, a police officer trying to clear her name after a lapse of judgment. She discovers a curious inscription in a secondhand book—a plea: Help me, he’s trying to kill me. Who wrote this note? Who is “he”?
This note leads Harri to David Asha, last seen stepping off a cliff. Police suspect he couldn’t cope after his wife’s sudden death. Still, why would this man jump and leave behind his young son? Quickly, Harri’s attention zeroes in on a person she knows all too well.
Ben Elmys: once the love of her life. A surrogate father to Elliot Asha and a trusted friend to the Ashas. Ben may also be a murderer.
The Other Side of Night is a thought-provoking, moving “head-spinner of a novel” (John Connolly) with intriguing narratives and plot swerves that will leave you reeling. By the end, you’ll be shaken as each piece slots satisfyingly into place.

In this episode, the Crew is joined by acclaimed columnist and #1 New York Times bestselling author Mike Lupica.
In a career spanning nearly five decades, Mike Lupica has gone from being the youngest columnist ever at a New York paper to writing for such esteemed magazines as Esquire, Sports Illustrated, and Playboy and making regular television appearances on The Sports Reporters and his own eponymous show on ESPN2.

He’s collaborated with sports icons Reggie Jackson and Bill Parcells and such literary luminaries as William Goldman and James Patterson.

Mitch Rapp is back, which means so is Kyle Mills. The Crew welcomed our friend and regular guest back on the show to discuss OATH OF LOYALTY, his 8th outstanding entry in the Vince Flynn-created series. As usual, Mill's wit and wisdom made for a fantastic hour.
“In the world of black-ops thrillers, Mitch Rapp remains the gold standard. Mills has embraced the high-concept-thriller style and continues to exceed expectations.” - Booklist
With President Anthony Cook convinced that Mitch Rapp poses a mortal threat to him, CIA Director Irene Kennedy is forced to construct a truce between the two men. The terms are simple: Rapp agrees to leave the country and stay in plain sight for as long as Cook controls the White House. In exchange, the administration agrees not to make any moves against him.
This fragile détente holds until Cook’s power-hungry security adviser convinces him that Rapp has no intention of honoring their agreement. In an effort to put him on the defensive, they leak the true identity of his partner, Claudia Gould. As Rapp races to neutralize the enemies organizing against her, he discovers that a new generation of assassins is on her trail. A killer known to intelligence agencies only as Legion.
The shadowy group has created a business model based on double-blind secrecy. Neither the killer nor the client knows the other’s identity. Because of this, Legion can’t be called off nor can they afford to fail. No matter how long it takes—weeks, months, years—they won’t stand down until their target is dead. Faced with the seemingly impossible task of finding and stopping Legion, Rapp and his people must close ranks against a world that has turned on them.

The Crew runs a successful counterintelligence op in the latest episode as we reveal the identity of debut author Ryan Steck, a.k.a. The Real Book Spy. We use enhanced interrogation techniques to draw out the truth behind his decision to become a double agent – that is, to become an author in addition to being a book reviewer. Check out the debrief ahead of the release of FIELDS OF FIRE.
“You know Ryan Steck as the Real Book Spy. Now, get to know him as the author of Fields of Fire, his debut thriller featuring Marine Raider Matthew Redd in a battle that will leave you speechless and begging for more. Lock and load!” —Jack Carr, Navy SEAL Sniper and #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Devil’s Hand
Waiting to be deployed on a critical mission, elite Marine Raider Matthew Redd stops to help a stranger and wakes up hours later to learn his team was wiped out in an ambush. Unable to remember anything, Redd can’t deny the possibility that he’s somehow responsible for the information leak that led to the massacre. He’s given a deal to avoid a charge of treason, but it means walking away from the Corps and the life he loved.
As he faces his loss, Matty gets a cryptic message from his adoptive father, J. B.: “Trouble’s come knocking. . . . Might need your help.” He points his truck home to rural Montana, only to discover that J. B. is dead and the explanation for his death is far from satisfying. Determined to dig up the truth, Redd uncovers a dark global conspiracy with his hometown at the center and no team at his back—except one he might find among past friends, old enemies, and new allies, if he can figure out who to trust.
Ryan Steck is a freelance editor, an author, and the founder and editor in chief of The Real Book Spy. Ryan has been named an "Online Influencer" by Amazon and is a regular columnist at CrimeReads. The Crew welcomed a long-anticipated guest this week as Matthew Betley joined the boys to discuss his wildly original new novel, THE NEIGHBORHOOD. His Logan Pike series has long been a Crew favorite, and now Betley takes us on a blood-pumping ride through THE NEIGHBORHOOD.
“Die Hard in a gated community, Matthew Betley’s new book, The Neighborhood, is a stand-on-the-pedal, runaway-train thrill ride of the year. Ever find yourself looking down the wrong end of a gun barrel? That’s exactly what this relentless book will do to your heart rate. Don’t just buy it. Armor up!” —Chris Hauty, national bestselling author of Deep State and Storm Rising.
For most of the citizens of Hidden Refuge, it’s an ordinary Friday night in an ordinary American town. But when men claiming to be police officers show up at their doorsteps in the middle of the night, ordering them to evacuate for their own safety, it’s only the beginning of a long, dark night that will prove to be anything but ordinary. Unbeknownst to most of its residents, Hidden Refuge contains something that very dangerous men desperately want, and they are more than willing to kill to get it.
But Hidden Refuge contains another secret—Zack Chambers, a seemingly unassuming programmer and suburbanite family man who is far more than meets the eye. And while Zack dearly hoped that he’d never again need to use the deadly skills he’d acquired in his former life, when push comes to shove, he’ll do whatever it takes to protect himself and his neighbors. Even if it means taking on a small army of trained killers with only his wits and a ragtag group of allies.
Before the night is over, the blood of the innocent and the guilty alike will be shed, old scores will be settled, and shocking twists will be revealed. Propulsive, brilliantly plotted, and packed with Matthew Betley’s trademark blend of gritty realism and edge-of-your-seat action, The Neighborhood is a can’t-miss thriller.
Matthew Betley is the author of the Logan West Thrillers and a former Marine Officer of ten years. Trained as a scout sniper platoon commander, an infantry officer, and a ground intelligence officer, his experiences include deployments to Djibouti after September 11 and Fallujah and Iraq prior to the Surge. A New Jersey native who considers Cincinnati home but now resides on the East Coast, he graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, with a BA in psychology and minors in political science and sociology.

In this episode, the Crew is joined by the outstanding writing team featuring former Navy SEAL Brandon Webb and award-winning author John David Mann to discuss their blistering new thriller COLD FEAR. “One of the best crime novels of the year . . . a brilliant blend of procedural mystery and geopolitical thriller.”—Jeffery Deaver, New York Times bestselling author of Hunting Time Disgraced Navy SEAL Finn is on the run. A wanted man since he jumped ship from the USS Abraham Lincoln, he’s sought for questioning in connection to war crimes committed in Yemen by a rogue element in his SEAL team. But his memory of that night—as well as the true fate of his mentor and only friend, Lieutenant Kennedy—is a gaping hole. Finn learns that three members of his team have been quietly redeployed to Iceland, which is a puzzle in itself; the tiny island nation is famous for being one of the most peaceful, crime-free places on the planet. His mission is simple: track down the three corrupt SEALs and find out what really happened that night in Yemen. But two problems stand in his way. On his first night in town, a young woman mysteriously drowns—and a local detective suspects Finn’s involvement. Worse, a SEAL-turned-contract-killer with skills equal to Finn’s own has been hired to ensure he never gets the answers he’s looking for. And he’s followed Finn all the way to the icy north.
Brandon Webb is the New York Times bestselling author of The Red Circle and Benghazi: The Definitive Report. A former U.S. Navy SEAL whose last assignment was Course Manager for the elite SEAL Sniper Course, he was instrumental in developing new curricula that trained some of the most accomplished snipers of the twenty-first century. He has received numerous distinguished service awards, including the Presidential Unit Citation and the Navy Commendation Medal with a “V” for “Valor,” for his platoon’s deployment to Afghanistan following the September 11 attacks. John David Mann is co-author of over thirty books, including four New York Times bestsellers and five national bestsellers. His writing has won multiple awards, including the Living Now Book Awards Evergreen Medal for its “contributions to positive global change.”

"With RISING TIGER, Brad Thor continues to astonish, doing the seemingly impossible and raising his game to yet another level. A masterful plot told at a breakneck pace that somehow manages to till fresh ground in a genre where it seemed every doomsday scenario has been explored, reveals a writer at the height of his powers. Pitting Scot Harvath against multiple dangerous enemies against the backdrop of superpowers on a collision course may sound familiar, but Mr. Thor weaves originality in at every turn, in every character, in every locale, creating a thriller as fresh and immediate as any in recent memory. On this episode, Stephen Lloyd, four-time Emmy nominated screenwriter/co-producer of two of television’s most successful series (Modern Family and How I Met Your Mother) joins the Crew to discuss his debut thriller, FRIEND OF THE DEVIL.
FRIEND OF THE DEVIL is a noirish horror story that combines the gleeful gore of 80’s slasher pics with the teen angst of a John Hughes film, stirs in the classic sensibilities of Poe and Stoker, and adds a dose of Raymond Chandler for good measure. The result is a keenly original tale that stands apart from its peers.

An exciting new voice in espionage fiction joins the Crew as former naval intelligence officer M.P. Woodward sits down with the boys to discuss his acclaimed debut, THE HANDLER. NYT Bestselling author Mark Greaney calls it “a brilliant thriller… one you don’t want to miss.”
A disgraced former CIA operative must go back in the field with only his ex-wife as his handler in this electrifying thriller from a former intelligence officer.
Meredith Morris-Dale is a CIA case officer and a damn good one…even if this last mission did go terribly wrong. Now she has been summoned back to Langley where she expects to be fired. Instead, she is met by the Deputy Director with stunning news.
A single well-placed CIA mole in Iran’s uranium enrichment program has kept the terrorist nation from building a bomb by sabotaging the performance of their covert centrifuge arrays. But after losing his daughter in an airliner shootdown, the mole wants out—leaving the world on the brink. His one demand: a reunion with the only handler he ever trusted, John Dale—Meredith’s disgraced, fired, wayward ex-husband. As Meredith and John struggle through their fraught relationship, a craven CIA political hierarchy, Russian interference, and the rogue spy’s manipulation, they must reach deep within their shared connection to maintain, recover, or kill the asset.
“A spectacular tale, brimming with intrigue, suspense, and richly-drawn characters. Fantastic storytelling.” —Marc Cameron, New York Times bestselling author of Tom Clancy Chain of Command
M.P. Woodward is a former naval intelligence officer with the U.S. Pacific Command. In multiple deployments to the Persian Gulf and the Far East, he worked alongside U.S. Special Forces, CIA, and NSA. Like his main protagonist Joe Pickett, C.J Box is not a man who seeks out the spotlight, but the spotlight seems to find him. When you do your job as well as Joe, and as well as C.J. Box, you draw attention. And since his debut novel OPEN SEASON in 2021, Box has drawn the attention of a legion of fans and won almost universal critical acclaim. Now, with television adaptations of both his Joe Pickett and Cassie Dewell book series, the spotlight is brighter than ever. He joined the Crew to discuss his 22nd Joe Pickett story, SHADOWS REEL.
A day before the three Pickett girls come home for Thanksgiving, Joe is called out for a moose poaching incident that turns out to be something much more sinister: a local fishing guide has been brutally tortured and murdered. At the same time, Marybeth opens an unmarked package at the library where she works and finds a photo album that belonged to an infamous Nazi official. Who left it there? And why?
She learns that during World War II, several Wyoming soldiers were in the group that fought to Hitler’s Eagles Nest retreat in the Alps—and one of them took the Fuhrer’s personal photo album. Did another take this one and keep it all these years? When a close neighbor is murdered, Joe and Marybeth face new questions: Who is after the book? And how will they solve its mystery before someone hurts them…or their girls?
Meanwhile, Nate Romanowski is on the hunt for the man who stole his falcons and attacked his wife. Using a network of fellow falconers, Nate tracks the man from one city to another. Even as he grasps the true threat his quarry presents, Nate swoops in for the kill and a stunning final showdown.
C.J. Box is the author of over thirty novels, winning the Edgar, Anthony, Macavity, Gumshoe, and two Barry awards, as well as the French Prix Calibre .38 and French Elle magazine literary award. His books have been translated to twenty-seven languages. He lives with his wife Laurie on their ranch in Wyoming, and like Joe Pickett, is the father of three daughters. He is an executive producer on ABC TV’s Big Sky, which is based on his Cody Hoyt/Cassie Dewell novels, as well as executive producer of Joe Pickett for Paramount Studios/Spectrum Originals.

When all is said and done, 2022 is sure to be the Year of Mark Greaney. The long-anticipated Netflix adaptation of the Gray Man will be streaming on televisions everywhere this summer, directed by the Russo Brothers and starring Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans. In July, the novelization of his hit Audible original ARMORED hits bookshelves. But first up is the 11th novel in his sublime Gray Man series, SIERRA SIX. Mark sat down with the Crew to discuss his latest, which is sure to be a favorite of long-time fans and new readers alike.
Before he was the Gray Man, Court Gentry was Sierra Six, the junior member of a CIA action team. In their first mission they took out a terrorist leader, at a terrible price. Years have passed. The Gray Man is on a simple mission when he sees a ghost: the long-dead terrorist, but he’s remarkably energetic for a dead man.
A decade of time hasn’t changed the Gray Man. He isn’t one to leave a job unfinished or a blood debt unpaid.
“Excellent….Greaney seamlessly adjusts focus between the timelines, jumping from one exhilarating roller-coaster ride to the other. Spy and military thriller fans will be well pleased.”—Publishers Weekly (starred review)
New York Times Bestselling author Mark Greaney has a degree in international relations and political science. In his research for the Gray Man novels, he has traveled to more than fifteen countries and trained alongside military and law enforcement personnel in the use of firearms, battlefield medicine, and close-range combative tactics. In addition, Greaney co-authored the wildly popular Red Metal with Lt. Colonel H. Ripley Rawlings. He is also the author of the New York Times Bestsellers Tom Clancy Support and Defend, Tom Clancy Full Force and Effect, Tom Clancy Commander in Chief, and Tom Clancy True Faith and Allegiance. With Tom Clancy, he co-authored Locked On, Threat Vector, and Command Authority.

The Nowhere Man is back! NYT Bestselling Author Gregg Hurwitz joins the Crew to pull the curtain back a little further on the life of Evan Smoak, Orphan X. We talk vodka, the challenges of parenting when you’re trying to run a cocaine empire, and opinionated plants.
Aragon Urrea is a kingpin of a major drug-dealing operation in South Texas. He's also the patron of the local area--supplying employment in legitimate operations, providing help to the helpless, rough justice to the downtrodden, and a future to a people normally with little hope. He's complicated--a not completely good man, who does bad things for often good reasons. However, for all his money and power, he is helpless when one of the most vicious cartels kidnaps his innocent eighteen year old daughter, spiriting her away into the armored complex that is their headquarters in Mexico. With no other way to rescue his daughter, he turns to The Nowhere Man.
Now not only must Evan figure out how to get into the impregnable fortress of a heavily armed, deeply paranoid cartel leader, but he must decide if he should help a very bad man--no matter how just the cause.
"Gregg Hurwitz has outdone himself this time. The many followers of Orphan X will get whiplash from the unexpected turns and surprises. It was only a matter of time until his Evan Smoak took on the drug cartels. That the main villain is a fully rounded character is unexpectedly moving. The action strikes like lightning." --Luis Urrea, Pulitzer Prize finalist for The Devil's Highway

In this episode, accomplished author and veteran foreign correspondent Toby Harnden joins the Crew Reviews to discuss First Casualty: The Untold Story of the CIA Mission to Avenge 9/11, his riveting account of the first U.S. military action in Afghanistan.
"Harnden skillfully interweaves dramatic action sequences with the backstories of the book’s central figures, and briskly highlights the failures of U.S. policy in Afghanistan. Readers will be swept up in this little-known chapter of America’s 'forever war.'" –Publishers Weekly
America is reeling; Al-Qaeda has struck and thousands are dead. The country scrambles to respond, but the Pentagon has no plan for Afghanistan—where Osama bin Laden masterminded the attack and is protected by the Taliban. Instead, the CIA steps forward to spearhead the war. Eight CIA officers are dropped into the mountains of northern Afghanistan on October 17, 2001. They are Team Alpha, an eclectic band of linguists, tribal experts, and elite warriors: the first Americans to operate inside Taliban territory. Their covert mission is to track down Al- Qaeda and stop the terrorists from infiltrating the United States again.
First Casualty places you with Team Alpha as the CIA rides into battle on horseback alongside the warlord Abdul Rashid Dostum. In Washington, DC, few trust that the CIA men, the Green Berets, and the Americans’ outnumbered Afghan allies can prevail before winter sets in. On the ground, Team Alpha is undeterred. The Taliban is routed but hatches a plot with Al-Qaeda to hit back. Hundreds of suicidal fighters, many hiding weapons, fake a surrender and are transported to Qala-i Jangi—the “Fort of War.”
Team Alpha’s Mike Spann, an ex-Marine, and David Tyson, a polyglot former Central Asian studies academic, seize America’s initial opportunity to extract intelligence from men trained by bin Laden—among them a young Muslim convert from California. The prisoners revolt and one CIA officer falls—the first casualty in America’s longest war, which will last two decades. The other CIA man shoots dead the Al-Qaeda jihadists attacking his comrade. To survive, he must fight his way out against overwhelming odds.
Toby Harnden reported from 33 countries as a foreign correspondent while based in London, Belfast, Jerusalem, Baghdad and Washington D.C. During his work for The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Times of London, he was imprisoned in Zimbabwe and faced prosecution in Northern Ireland for his work. A dual U.S. and British citizen and former Royal Navy officer, he lives in McLean, Virginia.

In this episode, the Crew goes behind the scenes with bestselling author Andrew Mayne to discuss his latest thriller BLACK CORAL.
To say Andrew is an interesting person would be an understatement. He has been nominated for the Edgar Award for his book Black Fall and the Thriller Award for Name of the Devil and The Naturalist – an Amazon Charts best-seller that spent six weeks at the number one spot for all books on Amazon. Prior to his first publishing deal, Andrew was listed by Amazon as one of the top-ten best selling indie authors of the year.
Andrew starred in the Discovery Channel Shark Week special Andrew Mayne: Ghost Diver where he swam alongside great white sharks using an underwater stealth suit he designed. Andrew also starred in the A&E magic television series Don’t Trust Andrew Mayne.
With the support from the Johnny Carson foundation and the James Randi Educational Foundation, Andrew created a program to use magic to teach critical thinking skills in public schools. His Wizard School segments, teaching magic and science to children, aired nationwide on Public Television.
As a creative consultant he’s worked behind the scenes for David Copperfield, Penn & Teller and David Blaine. He’s developed innovative magic effects that are performed around the world and even helped develop an experiment that was conducted onboard the International Space Station.
His underwater stealth suit featured in the Shark Week special Andrew Mayne: Ghost Diver was the result of his interest in perception and engineering. While researching great white sharks and their behavior he developed artificial intelligence models based on sharks and used them to create a VR training simulator for shark interaction.
Andrew’s current project is AI Channels, an artificial intelligence platform built in collaboration with OpenAI for interacting with virtual characters that can be used for education and storytelling.

On this episode, the Crew goes behind the scenes with Joseph Reid. The son of a Navy helicopter pilot, Joseph Reid’s number of moves kept up with his age throughout most of his childhood. Upon receiving a book about sharks as a going-away present from his kindergarten classmates, he was bitten by a passion that would last the rest of his life. Through the remainder of elementary school, high school at Phillips Exeter Academy, and even in college at Duke University, he was determined to become a marine biologist.
Discovering the extremely low ratio of boat time to grant writing time in graduate school, however, he decided to cut bait and swim with a different kind of “shark.” After graduating from Notre Dame Law School, he became a patent litigator, and since then he has represented clients ranging from individual inventors to Fortune 50 companies in lawsuits valued in the millions—sometimes billions—of dollars.
He’s also spent an awful lot of time on airplanes and in airports. These travel experiences spawn the backdrops for his novels, which he writes each morning before dawn breaks and the real world intrudes.

Go behind the scenes with Mark as he discusses his latest novel ONE MINUTE OUT.
Mark Greaney burst onto the thriller scene in 2009 with his best-selling debut THE GRAY MAN. The pulse pounding introduction of Court Gentry, a government operative turned freelance assassin, put the thriller world on notice: Greaney was a force to be reckoned with.
The novel’s breakneck pace and sharp characterizations caught the attention of Tom Clancy, who tapped Greaney to cowrite the continuing adventures of Jack Ryan. Completing three novels co-written with Clancy, and four additional after the legendary author passed away, Greaney garnered an even larger following.
After years of writing two books a year, Mark Greaney stepped away from the Jack Ryan series to focus solely on the Gray Man novels. His inventive storytelling, constantly shifting locales, and wildly original action sequences set a new standard in the genre.
But it is the man at the heart of his novels, Court Gentry, aka Violator, aka The Gray Man that continues to surprise and delight his readers. And now, with ONE MINUTE OUT, Greaney shows a side of the Gray Man we have never seen before.
Written in first person, ONE MINUTE OUT gives readers the chance to see the world, not in black and white, but in shades of Gray.
