It's been a difficult couple of weeks. Not only was a man murdered while in police custody, but that act of racial injustice seems to be the straw that has broken the camel's back, as protests in support of the Black Lives Matter movement and against police brutality have taken shape in all 50 states and in countries around the world. Paul and Carly are very passionate about standing with the oppressed and disenfranchised, and you can tune in to this week's episode to hear them discuss that. However, there is more to discuss here. Paul and Carly are also an interracial couple, living in a small, conservative town in rural Indiana - and that is not without its own difficulties. Catch it all here on this week's episode of The Cord.

What we require in life based on life circumstances and experiences (our nurture) and what we instinctively and fundamentally value as people (our nature) aren’t always the same thing. It's a safe bet that most humans operate somewhere on a continuum between what they feel like they truly need and what they want to need. The good news is that the needle can move in either direction depending on the demands of the moment. Tune in to hear Paul and Carly discuss some recent revelations Carly has experienced regarding the conflict and distance she's often experienced between what she needs and what she values, and how she is navigating those discrepancies. Also - does God know what chocolate chips taste like? All this and more on this episode of the Cord!

We have officially reached the point in this quarantine thing we are all doing where our self-reflection has gotten a little intense. We’ve moved past how we're feeling today, processing change, and looking for stability to wondering what actually makes up the fabric of who we are. And, moreover, how that affects our parenting. In Carly's blog, which you can read here, she examines how her answers to five introspective questions help her be a better parent to our oldest daughter, Risa, who is her Mini-Me. In this week's episode, you'll hear Paul consider these same questions live, while applying what he learns to the parenting of his Mini-Me, our youngest daughter, Reyna. Listen in to hear what we figure out about how to be good parents to kid who're just like us!

While it is nice to be able to exchange words with each other, our souls actually need so much more from relationships. We were made for touch, for eye contact, for sharing silence together. We need those physical and emotional expressions of friendship and belonging.

Without any sense of novelty, and with a constant audience, how do we date during quarantine? Well, we have to create our own adventure. If you’re stuck in a rut, maybe some of these ideas will help you. Try inventing a game, creating a challenge, sparking a conversation, and don't forget to pull out all the stops. Tune in to Carly and Paul's QuaranTalk on Facebook Live this Thursday night at 9pm to see them put some of this into action with an exciting and free new resource from The Lazy Genius!

All of those demands that we used to pass off to other people for a few hours a day are now our sole responsibility. 24/7. Inside our home. Or at least on our property. For the next who knows how many days. It can feel like a lot. It is a lot. And it took us a good two weeks to realize I was playing the parenting game wrong when it came to this whole quarantine gig. Check out this latest episode to hear us discuss what we're doing differently under the stay-at-home order, including the implementation of a new communication and discipline strategy called "the Family Meeting."

Carly's mom is the best. Her wisdom is the inspiration for these week's blog, which you can read right here if you haven't read it yet. But we're also going to be featuring her in an interview on Instagram Live, this Thursday at 9pm Eastern (follow us on Instagram here if you don't already). We thought it might be fun to switch things up from our usual mentorship topics and just spend some time talking about Carly's mom and how much she has meant to us personally and professionally. She's one of Not Easily Broken Missions' greatest champions and we deeply appreciate everything she's done for us. In fact, if it weren't for her, NEB Missions wouldn't exist at all! Join Paul and Carly in today's episode to get the full scoop.

It doesn’t take Gen Z or Millennials or whatever the collective “we” is to turn any major life event into a meme. And Covid-19 has been no different. We're especially enjoying one about working from home with your spouse. It suggests avoiding disagreements by just blaming all your newfound problems on an imaginary annoying coworker who can’t seem to do anything right. It calls her Cheryl. It’s so much easier to stay happy with your partner when they aren’t responsible for leaving dirty dishes around, cranking up the heat when you’re already sweating, or chewing too loudly while you’re on the phone. But given the more or less national quarantine period being a minimum of fifteen days at this point, many of us are looking at being home with partners and other family members more than normal, without being able to engage in our go-to stress relievers of a night out, shopping, or even just going to the library by ourselves. And while blaming it all on Cheryl might be cathartic in the short term, I think after a while we are going to need a longer-lasting solution. So what do you do when the tension is high, the square footage is small(er than you’d like it to be), and the escape hatch is bolted shut? Glad you asked! We have worked from home together for many years, and we’ve got some tried-and-true tricks to help you navigate the next however-long-this-lasts.

This week, we wanted to take some time to respond directly to you. On the blog, we took some time to explore a listener-submitted question about when your spouse loses interest in sex. You can check that out here.
On today’s episode, we’ll be answering other questions about preparing for a new baby, how to identify abuse, the importance of accountability, and supporting children as they grow. Tune in and hear all about it!

It's no secret that the holidays are complicated - tensions can get high, especially with families. But that's not the only place that aggravation and irritation can rear their ugly heads. We've been in the process of rebooting Not Easily Broken for a few months now. Last Friday, on Facebook, we did a live broadcast to let everybody know what exactly was going to be new moving forward. But it's been a long journey to the handful of announcements we made on Friday. So we wanted to take a little bit of time to unpack the journey. We hope that you enjoy hearing about how we've gotten to the exciting place we find ourselves today!
Also, apologies for our colds, hopefully by the time we next record our voices will sound better. And enjoy our new theme music!

This is a fast-paced world we live in, and we respond to that fast pace with the perception that life is whizzing by, with the idea that life is short. But life might be longer than we suspect, and the choices we make can have long-lasting impact. We should practice for making those kinds of choices. Tune in today to hear Paul & Carly discuss exactly what that looks like.
