Joins us on the podcast to discuss the major issues with commercial real estate and energy wastage.
The scale of the challenge:
40% of the built environment is responsible for c.40% of all global CO2 emissions (McKinsey, UNEP, WEF)
76% of emissions from an average building is caused by operations Heating, cooling, lighting are the main contributors
80% of all building stock globally expected to exist in 2050, 80% have already been built
Up to 40% of the energy can be saved if the occupants’ presence/absence is factored into operations (Kim, Srebric)
And companies have barely even started fixing it.

The building or tenancy is your most expensive piece of hardware. Make sure everything inside of its ecosystem is just that, an ecosystem that can provide top tier experience and efficiency. That's exactly what PlaceOS does, integrates the physical with the digital, then automates it. We create spaces that activate around the people who engage with them. We don't let technology get in the way, instead, we focus on removing unnecessary interactions while adding personalized user journeys that map to the user's needs and preferences in the moment.

We believe user experience is the most important factor for any organization. If you solve for people efficiencies, you're solving for business efficiencies. For example, if there are more smarts for something like air conditioning, it's more energy efficient, but more importantly, it's more comfortable for the people who need it. And it applies to almost any use case. This approach is at the core of PlaceOS, an integration & automation platform that strives to create seamless user experience across any space, for any people, not just technology.

In this episode we discuss:
This episode is a discussion about different industry verticals. Each industry vertical has different problems they need to solve, it's not a one-size-fits-all approach. The solution has to adapt to those needs. Jon and Sabrina discuss the trends they're seeing in each of these verticals and what solutions are succeeding.
Jon & Steve discuss the project in Saudi Arabia which aims to build a completely new city that's 170km in a straight line.
The Line claims a city of a million residents with a length of 170km that preserves 95% of nature, zero cars, zero streets, and zero carbon emissions. It's quite the project, but what are the pros and cons of something like this? What about cities that already exist? This is basically all cities, so how can they achieve something of this quality without a total redo?
Jon & Brooke discuss what organizations need to be doing in order to analyze workplace data correctly, new verticals being explored by PlaceOS, and why context is so important for user experience.
Brooke Jamieson is the Analytics Lead at PlaceOS. Brooke has a background in Mathematics, Data Engineering, and UX Design. Brooke combines formal mathematics training with professional experience to help people get the most out of data generated by their smart buildings.

Jeremy West is the Head of Delivery for PlaceOS. In this episode, Jon sits down with Jeremy to discuss workplace trends, evolving solutions, how companies can return to workplace, and how PlaceOS keeps up with emerging technology trends.

There are several technologies in the workplace that can track user locations, but they have their pros and cons. Whether that be a high barrier to entry, so the user needs to take action to allow that data to be recorded, or a low barrier to entry where it happens automatically in the background.
The next question becomes cost, typically a high barrier to entry means low-cost, and a low barrier to entry is high cost. This ranges from QR codes to sensors and all the way up to cameras.
It all depends on the desired outcome and the budget. How can you maintain quality control for user experience without blowing the budget? Listen to Jon walk through the process of how to make that decision for your workplace.
