The podcast of The 00 Files hosted by four James Bond aficionados from the Netherlands. Anthony, Tyler, Martin and Don discuss their favourite (and not so favourite) 007 films, books, songs and all other things James Bond! If you enjoy the podcast, please share it with others!

Don and Anthony take a deep dive (without breathing apparatus) into the music of James Bond. But not the scores or official theme songs. No, this time their eyes and ears are trained on all the famous James Bond theme songs (or title songs) that never made it. The so-called Lost Tapes!
So sit back and enjoy some of the great (and - let’s be honest - many not so great) songs that never made the final cut.

In their sixteenth movie review, the agents of The 00 Files discuss James Bond’s sixteenth adventure, Licence To Kill (1989).
A movie filled with action, wedding parties, sharks and lots and lots of great characters. Keep your eyes and ears open for the following:
-The last pigeon scare in 007’s history -Scenes that were the inspiration for other action franchises -A sleazy bar where people use swordfish as weapons -A very young Benicio Del Toro as Dario the honeymoon planner

The 00 Files. Come on!!
The 00 Files return with a new installment of the Elements series!
This time we take a closer look at all the henchmen of the franchise. We brushed our steel teeth, put on our metal thumbnails and take off our razor-rimmed bowler hats for the worst of the worst!
James Bond will always return... and so will The 00 Files. After watching No Time To Die a combined sixteen times, the hosts of this podcast deem it time to share their first thoughts about the movie. Be warned, there will be spoilers.
Should this have been a two-parter? How do you charge a bionic eye? Did Madeleine spend her youth shooting people left and right? Why does Don dislike every Daniel Craig gun barrel sequence? Was the bomb in Vesper’s tomb designed to kill Bond, or just give him a nasty case of tinnitus? Why does the George Baker Selection keep popping up? Is M. the real villain of this movie (and why is he so thirsty)?
All this and more will be discussed in this first, quick look into the twenty-fifth James Bond movie No Time To Die.

The 00 Files. I know… I know…
Put on your Royal Naval Uniform, grab a microfilm and jump into a Lotus Esprit: it’s time for our review of The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)!
Martin, Tyler, Anthony and Don discuss the BIGGEST, the BEST, it’s Bond and Beyond! Along the way we try to figure out how exactly Sandor can obey Jaws, how to travel from Egypt to Sardinia by train and how to construct a Wetbike in mere minutes.
You better watch out for the following: - Egyptian treasures to delve into… - Bishop’s mitres and oratories. - Pterois volitans, handsome but deadly. - Showering Majors.

John Barry (1933 - 2011) was one of the most prolific and distinctive film composers. After exploring his early years (episode 0072), Anthony and Don continue their debriefing of John Barry’s life and discography. This time they focus on the swinging 1960s, but excluding all his Bond-scores and award-winning-scores. Those are to be discussed another day.
Still, this episode features no less than twenty films and scores, from Zulu to Midnight Cowboy and many more! With more than 60 music cues and multiple audio clips from the books The Man With The Midas touch (narrated by Alice Dryden) and A Sixties Theme (narrated by Robbie Sims), this podcast is quite a journey back in time!

The new James Bond Lexicon (published April 2021) covers 271 James Bond stories released between 1953 and 2019 and has entries like:
CAFE DE LA PAIX: A cafe located at 12 Boulevard de Capucines, which was one of Bond’s regular lunch locations when in Paris [FAVTAKss].
Or
GREEN TELEPHONE: A phone on M’s desk that was reserved for receiving scrambled calls from outside Secret Service headquarters [GFm].

It is time for our fifth episode in our very own The 00 Styles series. Martin and Tyler discuss their favorite modern casual Bond styles. From polos to jeans and from chinos to hideous floral shirts.
In the fifth instalment of our Elements series we delve into the specific topic of James Bond’s allies! Bond has encountered many “our man in…” or “head of section” while he’s on a mission. They often help Bond survive, while many of them sadly don’t make it to the end of the film...
Tyler, Anthony, Martin and Don discuss them all, noticing 99% of them are slightly older men, moustached, with a deep voice, leading a particular interesting life…. Who is the best Bond ally of them all? And who is the worst?

The James Bond films pride themselves on doing terrific stunts for real (most of the time…). Famous stunt people, such as Bob Simmons, Rick Sylvester, George Leech, Martin Grace and Rémy Julienne have not only put their mark on the James Bond films, but on cinema in general. Their groundbreaking work is (or should be) legendary!
Author Jon Auty has written a new book which gives an in-depth look at all the stunt work in the James Bond film franchise. It’s called Ever Heard Of Evel Knievel - The Definitive Stunt History of the James Bond Movies, Volume 1: The Approach. From Dr. No to A View To A Kill.
Don and Jon have a chat about the book, the evolution of stunts throughout the years, some key stunt people (the real trailblazers) and what happens if a stunt goes horribly wrong…
Jon, the man behind Behind The Stunts, is on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube
The podcast starts with an audio clip from Ever Heard Of Evel Knievel narrated by Jon himself.

The book "M" (2017) by author Henry Hemming describes the life of Maxwell Knight, MI5's greatest spymaster during the 20th century. Maxwell famously ran about two dozen agents, uncovering many secrets and plots threatening the UK.
In “Our Man In New York” (2019) Henry describes the Great Debate (1940 - 1941): do the USA enter the second World War or not? An MI6 agent, Bill Stephenson, was sent to the US to make sure they did. And Stephenson succeeded!
Don and Henry chat about both these books, discussing Maxwell's personal and professional life. How he went from an undercover agent in the British Fascisti to an extraordinary agent runner during WWII. And also, how Stephenson managed to pull off a seemingly impossible task, influencing polls, creating fake news and having access to people in very high places!
The podcast starts with an audio clip from M, narrated by Henry himself.

On 3 November 1933 John Barry Prendergast was born in York. As a kid he fell in love with music and film, being the son of a cinema owner. Already from an early age Barry wanted to become a film composer. When he set his mind to something, and with the help of his wealthy and influential father, there was little Barry could not achieve.
Anthony and Don want to have an in-depth look at John Barry’s life and his discography, especially all his non-Bond work. Because Barry’s oeuvre is too vast to handle, this will be a podcast series. This is part 1 in which we try to cover Barry’s early years (1957 - 1962). In other words, everything he did before James Bond came along...
This podcast contains more than 50 music tracks and multiple audio clips from the books Hit And Miss (recorded by Alice Dryden) and A Sixties Theme (recorded by Robbie Sims).

In 1942, during World War II, lieutenant commander Ian Fleming, personal assistant to Director of Naval Intelligence Admiral John Godfrey, suggested that the British really needed a new and special kind of commando to steal secrets from the Germans. It was the beginning of 30AU, a group of intelligence pinching commandos, operating behind enemy lines.
Author Nicholas Rankin describes in his book Ian Fleming’s Commandos (published in 2011) the journey 30AU went on: from just an idea, to their first mission, through North Africa and South Europe, to freeing France and destroying Nazi Germany.
Don interviews Nicholas on his book and they discuss some of the key elements that led to 30AU’s successes. They explore how Fleming’s war time experiences have influenced his James Bond novels and how 007 himself is the epitome of British heroism.
The podcast starts and ends with an audio clip from Nicholas’ book narrated by Nicholas himself.

Ian Fleming (1908 - 1964) was a remarkable man who has lived an extraordinary life. At a young age he lost his father during WWI. Later, after attending Eton and dropping out of Sandhurst military school, he went to study at the Tennerhof in Kitzbühel, Austria.
In the 1930s Fleming worked as a journalist for Reuters and in 1933 he went to Moscow to write about the Metropolitan-Vickers trial. By the time WWII started, Fleming was working in London as a stockbroker.
During the war Fleming flourished; he joined the Naval Intelligence Division (NID) as personal assistant to Rear Admiral John Godfrey. In 1942 he formed a special unit of intelligence commandos, known as 30 Assault Unit or 30AU.
In 1946 Fleming bought 15 acres of land on the north coast of Jamaica and had his house Goldeneye built. Also in Jamaica, in 1952, he married Ann Charteris and he wrote the draft of his first James Bond novel Casino Royale, which was published in 1953 by Jonathan Cape. At the age of 56 Fleming suffered a fatal second heart attack during a golfing weekend at the Royal St George's Golf Club in Kent, England. He died at Canterbury hospital on 11 August 1964, his son’s 12th birthday.
In 1995 Andrew Lycett’s extensive biography of Ian Fleming was published, providing an in-depth look at the life of James Bond’s creator. Don talks to Andrew about Fleming, what motivated him, how he experienced things and what Bond meant to him.
The podcast starts and ends with an audio clip from Andrew’s biography narrated by Simon Vance.

In these isolated times Don sits down to have a proper chat with Warren Ringham, founder of the 007 tribute band Q the Music. Prior to recording Warren selected seven of his favourite tracks and those will be played throughout the interview.
The first half of the discussion focusses on Bond music in general, from Barry to Newman and everything in between. The second half is all about Q the Music and their amazing Lockdown Sessions.

Formed by professional trumpeter Warren Ringham in 2004 as "The Bond Band" (and re-named in 2013), and as the first ever James Bond Tribute Band they specialised in the music from the Bond films - not just songs, but cues and instrumentals too.

In 1955 Ian Fleming’s third James Bond novel Moonraker was published. Tyler and Don embark on a thorough analysis of the book. In a series of three podcasts they go through the adventure chapter by chapter, providing as much background information as they could gather.
This is Part 3 and covers chapters 18 - 25 of the book. Gala Brand figures out Drax’s scheme: he wants to plunge the Moonraker, armed with a Soviet atomic bomb, like a giant hypodermic needle into the heart of England. But Gala is captured before she can raise the alarm. Will Bond find her in time? Will he be able to stop the launch? Will he crash his car, be captured and tortured after the villain monologues his entire backstory and endgame?

The 00 Files, back in action!
On 14 February 2020 the brand new James Bond title song No Time To Die by Billie Eilish was released! In this debriefing podcast we have a thorough discussion about the song, the lyrics, the artist and how it all could fit within the final film. Anthony, Tyler, Martin and Don try to look at all the notes, melodies and keys!
To get a wide range of opinions, Don interviewed no less than thirteen guests (from six different countries) to chat about the song. How do they feel about the latest addition to the Bond canon? Is it death or paradise?
The guest list!
In addition to the community reactions, Don also called three Bond actors to ask their opinion on the new title song:

The 00 Files take a look at Thunderball (1965), the movie that was released at the height of 007 mania. After three very successful Bond movies, EON gives us this spectacular, bombastic movie where the entire world is at risk.

Dink is on holiday so Martin, Anthony, Don and Tyler finally have time for some well-deserved Man Talk. Seated around the dinner table, all wearing their favorite onesie, they discuss their love for music, casino scenes and books about James Bond. Better keep an eye out for the following:
-Anthony frantically searching Amazon for new James Bond books to read
-Tyler still trying to get the rest of the guys to visit Las Vegas with him
-Martin having a hard decision between Judi Dench and Bernard Lee
-Don recasting the entire MI6 team for Bond 26

Bonsoir, Monsieur 00 Files. Très heureux de vous revoir.
On 13 January 2020 it was announced that Hans Zimmer, one of the most popular and successful composers of the last decades, will compose the score for No Time To Die. Some fans were extremely happy with this news, others a bit more hesitant. What to expect?
Don and Anthony are both film score lovers, but by no means music experts. Nevertheless, they take an extensive look (and listen!) at Zimmer’s discography. From 1990s action pulp to his collaborations with Christopher Nolan. And from superhero music scores to odd Americana tracks.
All in all Don and Anthony have selected 37 tracks to listen to, well over three hours of music!

Recently the book Raising An Eyebrow by Gareth Owen was published. Gareth was the personal assistant of Sir Roger Moore. The book is a combination of Gareth’s own life’s story, how he got the job in the first place and it takes you on a very emotional, but most of all very funny journey through the years he spent with Roger.
Don interviewed Gareth and asked him what it is like to work at Pinewood Studios, how it was to have had Roger as a boss and how Bondstars got started.

The 00 Files go rogue! Again! Yes, it sounds like the tagline from a Daniel Craig James Bond film, but it is the God honest truth. We take a little side step from the 007 film franchise and have a look at another 1960s British spy thriller: The Ipcress File (1965). Interestingly enough many Bond alumni have worked on The Ipcress File, such as Harry Saltzman (producer), Peter Hunt (editor), Ken Adam (production design) and John Barry (composer).
The Ipcress File is based on a novel by Len Deighton and stars Michael Caine - with glasses - as Harry Palmer. In many ways this film is quite the opposite of the Bond films. And in many ways this podcast review is also the opposite of the usual reviews from The 00 Files… Are you intrigued yet? Come and have a listen!

The 00 Files are counting on you being an insubordinate bastard…
In the third of our Elements series we discuss the James Bond villains.
In his book For Your Eyes Only (2008) author Ben MacIntyre said it expertly: “No one ever accused Fleming of underwriting his villains, who are as lurid and sensational as Bond himself is deliberately understated. They are all extraordinary - ugly, deformed, brilliant, sadistic, rich, power-mad and unrepentantly insane. Many have specific physical characteristics that mark them out as evil, or psychologically damaged, and usually both: an absence of earlobes, a gap between the front teeth, even red hair. Most are foreign, and a large portion are German or Russian. Many are overweight, several are wildly camp.”
So what do we think of the villains in the films? We talk about the good, the bad and the very very ugly.

To us, 00 Files, we are the best!
In his book The History of the Illustrated 007 (published in 2008) author Alan J. Porter covers all - well mostly all - the comic books of James Bond. Even though Alan is a regular guest on another James Bond podcast, On Her Majesty’s Secret Podcast, the topic of comics is strangely neglected in both his and our podcast, so it’s high time to remedy that!
Don interviews Alan on the comics of Bond, how it all started with an adaption of Casino Royale into a comic strip for The Daily Express in 1958, to the very recent releases by Dynamite Comics. Along the way they talk about why publishers endlessly keep rebooting comics and how Bond ends up fighting vampires, gorillas and even wizards...

Does it matter that you physically can’t steal a space shuttle from the back of a 747? Why did it take some of us so long to realise Jaws was in the cockpit of the plane all along? How dó you spend 5 hours in Rio if you don’t Samba?
Just like the Moonraker goes in search of his dream of gold, Anthony, Don, Tyler and Martin search for logic in the 11th James Bond film adventure. Is it really out of this world, or does Moonraker (1979) have its charm with its stunts, instantly quotable villain and incredibly designed sets? Tune in to find out!

The 00 Files, taking you around the world one more time.
In 2017 SMERSH POD launched, a podcast celebrating the James Bond films by those who enjoy/hate/aren’t arsed about it. And in November 2019 Thunderbook appeared, a book celebrating the James Bond films by those… ah, you know where this is going…
Don interviews John Rain, host of the podcast and author of the book, who is definitely very much arsed about the Bond films! They talk about the Bond franchise, the book, the podcast and even (briefly) Michael Caine’s oeuvre...

It took us a little while, but The 00 Files dissects and discusses the recently released trailer to No Time To Die (direct link to watch it: https://youtu.be/Og2vYP7VzUs)
Martin gushes over the many beautiful Aston Martins, Anthony is a bit reserved, afraid the final product might disappoint, Don tries to make sense of Madeleine’s haircut and Tyler explains that in addition to not enjoying Bond soundtracks, deliberately avoiding Bond locations, he also doesn’t really care for trailers… Why are we not surprised?!
In addition to our own thoughts, there’s a collection of mini interviews with no less than eleven people: Reuben, Corneel, David, Jasper, Pieter, Pete, Martijn, Paul, Marc, Darren and Gary. A colourful collection of people from the Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland and the UK!

Dynamite Comics continues their series of graphic novel adaptations of the original Fleming novels with Live And Let Die. Don interviews author Van Jensen (from the US) and the new artist Kewber Baal (from Brazil).
As of yet the book isn’t available yet, but Don was one of the lucky bastards who managed to get a digital proof copy. Especially after the extensive book review (podcasts 0028 - 0030) Don feels he knows everything there is on Live And Let Die. In May 2018 Don interviewed writer Van Jensen and artist Dennis Calero on their graphic novel adaptation of Ian Fleming’s Casino Royale. This was still done under the name of James Bond Netherlands.
Now, in anticipation of the recent graphic novel adaptation of Ian Fleming’s second book Live And Let Die, Don again interviewed author Van Jensen and the new artist Kewber Baal. That second interview will be published next week. This seemed like a good opportunity to republish the old interview under the wings of The 00 Files.
Don talked to Van and Dennis on James Bond in general, on their work on Casino Royale, on some of the challenges they had in creating their adaptation and about continuing the series.

When Harry Saltzman met Cubby Broccoli they realised they needed each other to bring James Bond to the silver screen. And so they started a business partnership, which was, in a way, doomed to fail. While Cubby was extremely devoted to Bond, Harry was always on the look-out for the next big thing.
The book “When Harry Met Cubby” by Robert Sellers tells the story of the two producers, how they met, how they worked together and how it all fell apart… Don interviews Robert and they talk about what kind of men Harry and Cubby were, how their personal history helped shape the Bond film franchise and how money has a tendency to ruin pretty much everything.

Grab your lighter, cufflink, cigarette case and pen because it is time put your golden gun together! In our tenth James Bond film review, we take on Roger Moore’s The Man With The Golden Gun.
We follow 007 as he travels to Beirut, Hong Kong, Macau and Thailand to catch up with the world’s most dangerous assassin. Along the way Bond fights some random goons in a nightclub, sumo wrestlers in a beautiful garden and dodges a few empty bottles thrown by the tiniest henchman on a beautiful junk. Christopher Lee plays the iconic titular character who some consider to be the best Bond villain ever..
Don, Anthony, Martin and Tyler discuss the 1974 movie that leads to a lot of dissension within the team. The movie is loved by some and hated by others; receiving a 9 from one of the hosts and the dreaded 1 by another. Listen along to find out whether this movie is rightfully called ‘A Symphony In Beige’.
You better look out for: - Very subtle product placement by Tabasco and Nikon. - AMC Hornets doing things that AMC Hornets weren’t designed to do. - A donnybrook between two hip girls and an entire karate school while Bond just stands by. - And of course, everybody’s favourite character from Live And Let Die, sheriff J.W. Forgive me darling, your turn will come, I promise…
This is the third and final part of Tyler and Don’s review of Ian Fleming’s second James Bond book Live And Let Die (1954). In a series of three podcasts they go through the adventure chapter by chapter, providing as much background information as they could gather.
Part 3 covers chapters 16 - 23 of the book. Where parts one and two could be titled ‘New York’ and ‘Florida’ respectively, part three is all about Jamaica. Bond flies to Kingston, where he meets Strangways and Quarrel. Miraculously, in about a week’s time, Bond gets into peak physical condition for his night-time swim to Mr. Big’s island. However, this doesn’t prevent 007 from being attacked by sharks and barracuda and being captured (again) by Mr. Big’s men. The villain then proceeds to drag Solitaire and our hero behind his yacht towards both the deadly reef and an explosive climax.

This is Part 2 and covers chapters 9 - 15 of the book. After a lucky escape from Mr. Big, Bond and Leiter travel down to Florida. While Leiter flies ahead, Bond takes the train together with the beautiful and mysterious Solitaire. In Florida they are immediately seen by Mr. Big’s network and all pretty much goes to hell: Solitaire is kidnapped and Leiter disagreed with something that ate him. In 1954 Ian Fleming’s second James Bond novel Live And Let Die was published. Tyler and Don embark on a thorough analysis of the book. In a series of three podcasts they go through the adventure chapter by chapter, providing as much background information as they could gather.
This is Part 1 and covers chapters 1 - 8 of the book. Our hero 007 arrives in New York and is whisked through immigration and customs at Idlewild Airport. He is welcomed by his CIA buddy Felix and almost blown to pieces in the penthouse of the St. Regis hotel. In Harlem Bond meets the main villain of the novel, Mr Big and the very beautiful Solitaire. Bond has his left pinkie broken, impairing the possibility of some good, old-fashioned love making. Finally, in the middle of the night, Bond shoots his way to safety in a very gruesome manner...

In the third instalment of the Man Talk series, Don, Martin, Anthony and Tyler continue their discussion about all things Bond. In this episode our relics from the Cold War take on these challenging topics:
What is your favourite “other” spy related tv or film series?
What Bondian things would you still like to do in your life?
If you’d make a character movie about someone or something in the Bond universe. Who would you pick and why?
And finally we also play a 007 themed version of the game ‘Snog, Marry or Avoid’, where we learn some interesting things, like: Why drinking Dom Perignon ’52 with Anya can’t be all bad. Why marrying Fiona Volpe will make your life very interesting, albeit short. And last but not least: Why Aki is the answer to everything.

I tend to notice little things like that - whether a girl is a blonde or a brunette.
In the second instalment of our Elements series - in which we look at one specific element of a Bond-film - we delve into the music of Bond. Not counting the title songs, we discuss all the composers, how a lack of music can improve a scene, how background music adds to the atmosphere, how “local” music isn’t local at all, and how a change of composer can be a risky business.
From Jamaican sounds from the late ‘50s, to some very familiar tunes from 2015 - some might even call it a bootleg copy of Skyfall… The 00 Files orchestra is conducted by Martin, with Tyler trying to hit his triangle, Anthony blowing on his alpine horn and Don annoyingly playing his slide whistle...

After a relaxing summer break we are back. However, The 00 Files go rogue! For the first time we will be looking at a non-Bond film, but one with an obvious link to James Bond’s creator Ian Fleming. We’ll be reviewing the hip, the trendy, the very stylish spy film The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (2015).
Please join us for a trip to the swinging ‘60s, an illegal climb over the Berlin Wall and a bit of R&R in good old Rome. Along the way we discuss failing bromances, lovely aunts, cardboard villains with moustaches and, finally, the good, the bad and the ugly of ’60s fashion.
But wait… there’s more! Much more! We also tackle several tough questions: Could Henry Cavill be a good Bond? Would Alicia Vikander be a good Bond girl? Should Bond also be set in the ‘50s or ’60s?!

What if James Bond was truly working for Universal Exports, traveling the world and tweeting about his life? This is the basis for the Twitter account @JB_Univex, run by Matt Bunnell who went through all the Ian Fleming stories, added a chronology and sent messages into the world along with pictures and current affairs.
Intrigued by this concept, Don contacted Matt and found out he also runs the blog Bond Maps and he has created a Google Map containing more than a thousand pins from the Fleming novels. Luckily Matt was up for a chat and Don questioned Matt on the chronology of James Bond, retracing the journeys Bond makes, and the locations that Fleming used. Along the way they discuss how many eggs Bond can eat, why Bond wasn’t born in the year of the Rat and how James Bond disliked watching From Russia With Love in the cinema.

Martijn and Don exchange stories from Portugal and Switzerland, including...
… trying to find an Aston Martin DBS in Portugal. … running into a motorcycle cop at the place where OHMSS ends. … standing next to George Lazenby on the balcony in Bern. … flying up a mountain in a helicopter while suffering from vertigo. … secretly sneaking into the final VIP dinner.

In his book Goldeneye - Where Bond Was Born: Ian Fleming’s Jamaica (2014) Matthew Parker describes how the author and creator of James Bond came to live in Jamaica. Matthew provides a very detailed account of the years that Fleming was writing the 007 adventures at his house Goldeneye. His book intertwines Fleming’s personal life with historical changes on the island and, in fact, the entire British Empire and Matthew relates how these, in turn, influenced the James Bond thrillers.
Don interviews Matthew and together they talk about what Fleming loved about Jamaica, how his love life was really quite complicated and how James Bond is actually one big joke.
Matthew kindly sent us two signed copies of his book, which you can win! There’s an online quiz with 007 questions on Ian Fleming and his house Goldeneye. You can do the quiz as often as you like, at least until you have all the questions right! Link to the quiz: https://forms.gle/DUeGBToJzvBLMrw19

They discuss their fear for another Die Another Day, the fantastic special features on the DVDs and becoming a proud Bond fan again after watching Casino Royale with your friends. Why Spy Hard has the best credits sequence of all Bond spoofs. How you can scientifically decide what your favourite Bond decade is (and how there is only one acceptable answer to that question). A man of the world, so suave and discreet. He trips over women, piled up at his feet.
After an unpleasant holiday in North Korea, James Bond goes to the Falkland Islands to recover…. O no, he doesn’t!
In a heartbeat (or rather “heart stop”) he flies to Cuba, drives to Iceland and crash-lands his helicopter near the most romantic cottage there is. In between his travels, Bond fights Koreans that turn into Europeans, he meets fellow agents that turn into traitors and he receives a beautiful car that turns into… nothing.
Anthony, Don, Martin and Tyler climb on their switchblades and take a deep dive into the twentieth Bond film, Die Another Day (2002), also known as ‘the most obvious celebration of the 40-year-old-franchise’.
You better watch out for the following: - Halle Berry, moving in slow motion... - Bond’s pod racer, moving at the speed of light... - Logic, not moving at all...

The 00 Files…. an abandoned station for abandoned agents!
Tyler and Don come to the end of Ian Fleming’s first James Bond novel, Casino Royale (1953). In a series of three podcasts they try to leave no stone unturned.
This final part 3 covers chapters 19 - 27 and we find Bond recovering in a French nursing home, under the tender loving care of British nurse Gibson. After Bond is brought up-to-date with current affairs by René Mathis, he goes on passionate leave with Vesper at 'Trou sur mer'. While Bond is (re)discovering both his own body and thoughts, he also finds out Vesper has a very dark secret. Bitch.
So... where do you best hide cheques? What happens if villains and heroes get all mixed up? And what the hell is wrong with regular pyjamas?
This podcast is obviously filled with spoilers, so if you haven’t read Casino Royale yet, you have been warned!

Last month, Don and Tyler embarked on a special quest: to re-read, analyse and discuss Ian Fleming’s first James Bond novel in great detail. We are of course talking about Casino Royale (1953). This resulted in a series of three podcasts in which they try to leave no stone unturned.
So, is this really the spy novel to end all spy novels? What makes Ian Fleming’s books so addictive to read? Why does Bond fall head over heels in love with Vesper, so much in fact that he lies to his superior, M.? And, most importantly, where the hell is Royale-Lex-Eaux located on a map?!
In part 1 we delve into the first nine chapters starting off with 007 already on his mission in France, pondering how someone would try to rob the 'caisse' of a casino. We discuss Bond’s gambling tactics, the proper pronunciation of René Mathis and whether EON missed an opportunity by omitting the bomb attack by Blue Man and Red Man.
Obviously, this podcast is filled with spoilers, so if you haven’t read Casino Royale yet, you have been warned!

After taking Dr. Goodhead around the world one last time, James Bond returns back to earth for his next adventure. With M. away on leave, Bond is sent on a mission by Tanner to recover the ATAC system that was lost in the Ionian Sea. So start your Zamboni, make sure your mini submarine is ready to go and listen to our film review of For Your Eyes Only (1981).
Does Bond really have what have what the Greeks call 'thrasos'? To find out, Anthony, Martin Don and Tyler follow 007 on the mission that takes him from a villa near Madrid to the high mountains of Cortina d'Ampezzo and from the deeps of the Ionian Sea to a monastery build on top of a Greek mountain in St. Cyril’s.

In July 2018 Don had a chat with Charlie Higson, author of the first five Young Bond books. Their interview was originally conducted for the podcast of James Bond Netherlands, but is now shamelessly re-published for the 00 Files.
Charlie’s first Young Bond adventure is SilverFin, published in 2005. The story is set in 1933 and we meet thirteen-year-old James Bond, who is sent to Eton. James gets involved with a diabolical plot, in which a larger-than-life villain threatens to change the nature of modern warfare...
The book, both a critical and commercial success, was swiftly followed by BloodFever (2006), Double Or Die (2007), Hurricane Gold (2007) and By Royal Command (2008).
The podcast starts with a short clip from the audiobook SilverFin, narrated by Nathaniel Parker.

In his book (or monograph, really) He Disagreed With Something That Ate Him, author Cary Edwards analyses both Timothy Dalton James Bond films and concludes that they are among the very best in the franchise. But, which one is better?
In this interview Don and Cary pit The Living Daylights (1987) against Licence To Kill (1989) to decide once and for all which of the two is the best. In order to do this, they compare the films on eleven typical James Bond elements, such as the villains, the ladies and the gadgets.
Cary has been kind enough to send us three signed copies of his book, He Disagreed With Something That Ate Him and you can win one of those! Elements is a new series of podcasts from the agents behind The 00 Files. In it we will discuss, as the name already suggests, specific elements from the Bond films.
What better first episode of the Elements podcast than a closer look at the famous pre title sequences? Your host is a jetpack wearing Anthony and with him are the three blind mice called Don, Martin and Tyler.

Fill her up, please!
In this bite-sized episode Martin, Don, Anthony and Tyler tell Dink to bugger off so they can have some well-deserved man talk. Seated around the dinner table, all dressed in powder blue, terry cloth playsuits of course, they discuss the following topics:
What if EON Productions would give you free reign over their empire for Bond 26?
Name three of your favourite non-Bond movies.
If you could recast one actor in the Bond movies, who would it be?
What is the most prized possession in your James Bond collection?
If you had been cast as 007, which three Bond movies would you have liked to star in and why?
They discuss their love for famous movies like The Big Lebowski, Bullet and Gladiator and not so famous movies like A Few Dollars More and Bull Durham. Why a money clip that is on screen for no more than a second might not be the best addition to your collection. How you can collect boxes full of promotional material without ever displaying them. And last but not least, why Denise Richards was the worst casting decision in the history of the 007 franchise.

Anthony, Martin, Tyler and Don discuss the reboot of the franchise in which Daniel Craig shows of his impressive Ursula Andress impression and what he can do with his little finger. It’s the film that revitalised the entire franchise, based on the book that was said to be unfilmable.

The job is done and the bitch is dead.
On October 10 1990 Jane Vivian Moneypenny dies in a boating accident in North Uist, Scotland. Exactly ten years later her niece, Kate Westbrook, receives a large trunk containing forty handwritten diaries, containing the memoires of Miss Moneypenny, personal secretary to M., the head of MI6. As Kate discovers the truth to her aunts secret life, her own life seems to get caught up in ongoing covert affairs…
The trilogy The Moneypenny Diaries (2005; 2006 and 2008) was written by Samantha Weinberg. Don interviews Samantha and together they talk about the character in general, making difficult decisions, traveling around the world for research purposes and juggling multiple timelines until your head starts to spin.
The podcast begins with an audioclip from the first book, Guardian Angel, narrated by Eleanor Bron and published by Ian Fleming Publications Ltd Audible Studios.

Remember, shadows stay in front or behind - never on top.
‘So, 007 is dead.’ ‘Yes, sir. I’m afraid so.’
In June 2018 Don Zuiderman interviewed Anthony Horowitz on his second 007 novel Forever And A Day. This interview was originally conducted for the podcast of James Bond Netherlands, but is now shamelessly re-published for the 00 Files. They talk about the book (obviously), the title and the amount of time and research that goes into writing a James Bond adventure.
Horowitz addresses a few sensitive subjects, such as why he thinks James Bond belongs in the 1950’s, Roger Moore was too old to portray the spy and Fleming was utterly brilliant.
The podcast starts with a short clip from the audiobook version, narrated by Matthew Goode and kindly used with the approval of publishers Random House Audiobooks. For Your Ears Only!

Anthony, Martin, Tyler and Don discuss the second last time Sean Connery would play James Bond, in which he fancies snogging himself and walk his rat.
You better watch out for the following: - Little old ladies floating in the canals of Amsterdam - Caged girls turning into fierce gorillas - Chinese soldiers spontaneously catching fire

Curious... how everyone who touches those diamonds seems to die...
In 2014 Steve Cole published his first Young Bond book titled Shoot To Kill. Following in the footsteps of both Ian Fleming and Charlie Higson is no easy task, but Steve managed to stay true to the world created by his predecessors and make it his own. I (Don) was lucky enough to interview Steve on his tenure and was surprised by his openness.
We obviously discuss the books in general, keeping the conversation as spoiler-free as possible, but I also got to ask some questions that were personally nagging me. For instance: why doesn’t Bond understand any Spanish? And why wouldn’t his aunt Charmian believe his story? Steve, luckily, was very patient with me and took all my Dutch bluntness in his stride.
At the end of the interview there’s an exclusive new Bond song! The full credits/roles are as follows:
'Shoot to Kill' – Steve Cole and Jason Loborik feat Karen Casey Music written by Jason Loborik/Steve Cole Piano: Jason Loborik Main vocal: Karen Casey Lyrics, backing vocals, bass guitar, additional synths: Steve Cole Additional backing vocals: Laura Taylor Strings: Joni Fuller Electric guitar: Paul Grice Produced and engineered by Steve Cole

After our introduction podcast we delve deeply into the world of voodoo! So lay out your tarot cards, pour yourself a bourbon and water and listen to our review of Live And Let Die (1973).
Anthony, Martin, Tyler and Don discuss the very first outing of Roger Moore as James Bond, in which he very much distances himself from the likes of Sean Connery.
You better watch out for the following: - Ol’ Albert, a mean croc - J.W. Pepper, a sheriff of the wrong parish to haul ass through - A hat, belonging to a small-headed man of limited means, who lost a fight with a chicken.
Just ease back now, Jim. Relax! Mr. Big wants to see you.
