The GlassHouse Church takes timeless Biblical truths and applies them to your life and times. Pastor Scott is known for making life-changing insights easier to see, and practical to practice.
Don't forget, what ever else we get right, we can't afford to get the love part wrong. How we treat people says the most about what we believe.

Most lessons in life can either be learned the easy way or the hard way. Sometimes we only appreciate the easy way when we've done it the hard way a few too many times. This set of Bible verses are widely considered to contain some of the highest thoughts imaginable on finding peace and purpose in life. Paul learned the hard way that God wanted him to experience mountain-moving faith and grace. Let the Apostle Paul be your guide and enjoy the view!

I originally gave this message on SuperBowl Sunday 2020 and what a year it has been since! I thought it was the perfect time to do an "instant replay" for anyone who wants to live SuperBold every day.

A good soldier never willingly leaves another soldier behind on the battlefield. In the struggles of life, we would be wise to consider how we treat our teammates. Most of the people we meet are walking wounded and some are even missing in action. Let's commit right now to being part of the solution, not part of the problem.

One of the major reasons people give for not believing in Jesus is that "there are so many hypocrites out there." If hypocrisy bothers atheists, think of how much it bothers God, since he is the one being misrepresented. Don't let a hypocrite, or your own hypocrisy, keep you out of heaven. The more familiar we are with the real deal, the less likely we are to fall for the fake.
In a needy world, we need to learn how to meet our own needs and the needs of others from the unlimited resources of God rather than the limited resources of humanity.
Sometimes the things that hurt us the most at one time also help us the most over all time.
Many people find themselves constantly pulled in every direction. I call it the "miserable middle." Don't let yourself have "too much of the Lord to really enjoy the world and too much of the world to really enjoy the Lord." God is the anchor on the winning side and it makes sense to choose him before you get to the end of your rope.

When I was young, my mom used to wake me up by turning on the light and saying "rise and shine, it's morning time." For me it was mourning time, because I didn't want to get up. Now that I'm grown and she's gone, I am thankful for a parent who didn't let me sleep through life. It's time to arise. It's time to shine. And the most exciting part of getting older is watching young people step in as we step out.

Far too many people seem to think the way to win others over is to yell "my way is right and your way is wrong." Maybe there is a better way...

Availability is the most important ability when God comes calling. When we find ourselves saying "I am not..." we should instead listen to God saying "I AM."
AvailABILITY is the most important ABILITY when God comes calling. Maybe it is time to stop thinking about all the things I am not...and focus on "The Great I Am."
One of the most elusive of human experiences is peace. People go to great lengths to try to find it. One of the Biblical descriptions of Jesus is "Prince of Peace." When your world gets rocked, it's good to know the One who rolled away the stone.
It's been said that a coach's role is to "make people do things they complain about now so they can achieve things they can brag about later." Discipline is the hidden key to so many open doors. In this message originally given on Father's Day 2020, it's good to remember that those who love us the most sometimes are liked by us the least...until we win because of what they taught us.
Though it is common to divide over little differences, what we have in common is actually greater than what makes us different. Hebrews is about how grace bridges the two biggest chasms in the universe: 1) the distance between God and us, and 2) the distance between us and our neighbor.
Have you ever stopped to consider how unlikely your very existence is? Once you embrace the miracle that "I'm Possible" it becomes a lot easier to believe nothing is impossible. If you've lost a sense of wonder, you just might find it again in this section of Hebrews 11.
Life has been compared to many metaphors. This week's message explores the "relay race" aspect of passing the baton successfully to the future faithful, just like people in the past passed it to us.
When someone meets us for the first time, it's a common question to ask "where are you from?" To really understand the faithful people of God throughout the ages, a better question might be "where are you going?" The word "home" means a lot of different things to different people. For some it is nothing more than the dysfunctional place they couldn't wait to get away from. Others can't wait to get back there as often as possible. Regardless of your own concept of home here on earth, this chapter will have you "homesick for heaven."
A lot of people seem to think faith is all about some distant, hoped for future: "pie in the sky in the sweet by and by." This chapter starts with the word NOW, signaling that faith is for here and makes a practical day-to -day difference. Chapter 11 of Hebrews is so packed with practical power, I slowed down and divided it into four parts and still barely scratched the surface of this spiritual goldmine.
"Mi casa es su casa!" My house is your house. Make yourself at home! Imagine hearing these words from the rich and famous about their multi-million dollar mansion. As unusual as it might be to have a celebrity open every room of their home to you and give you the key to every door, that's how hard it was for the readers of Hebrews to accept that God was now completely accessible to them as a friend. They had lived their entire religious life to believe God was "off limits" and that they needed someone more holy than they were to stand between them and God. This chapter explains how the work of Jesus on our behalf now means heaven's door says "Come on in, the door is open!"
I've found over the years that there are two ways to clean out a junk drawer. One way (that doesn't really work) is just to try to better organize all the useless things that have accumulated over the years. The other way (and the one I now use exclusively), is to take the drawer out, turn it upside down, and dump everything out in a pile on the floor. That way, I begin with a clean slate and the only way an item makes it back into the drawer is if it has undeniable value in my life going forward. Everything else goes into the trash. This chapter of Hebrews encourages us to take a similar approach with our spiritual beliefs and practices, only keeping what is of actual value going forward.
There is nothing new about "fake news." People have found it difficult to "keep it real" long before the modern era of photoshop and social media manipulation. A legitimate complaint about Christianity is that there are so many frauds, fakes, and hypocrites out there taking advantage of people in the name of religion. This chapter of Hebrews pulls no punches, knocking out the difference between getting real with God/others and keeping it fake through outward conformity to rules and rituals.
Have you ever heard an old person say "music these days is just noise! I don't understand it at all...back in my day...now THAT was real music." Or maybe you have heard young people call vintage music "the moldy oldies" or something like that. True music fans probably have a little wider view and are able to see the best of the old and new; they appreciate where music has been and where it is going. In the same way, spiritual things are best understood by those who see the Old and New Testaments as two parts of a whole that God was revealing to us over time. New School? Old School? How about "New Old School". It's good to know the old roots and the new fruits. Hebrews 7 can definitely help.
The sight of security guards can make you feel safe or feel threatened, depending on which side of the fence you find yourself on. The book of Hebrews is all about giving you the security God wanted you to have as one of his protected children.
We've all heard the term "a match made in heaven" to describe the perfect partners. But we have a big problem when it comes to our relationship with God: we are the IMPERFECT match. How do we get to be "a match made FOR heaven"? Take a listen to Hebrews 5 and be thankful for a God who thinks you are just right, even though you are neither "just" nor "right."
We live in an age where busy-ness is a badge of honor. If someone asks what your weekend plans are, many people would feel a strange sense of guilt if they honestly said "I plan to rest." While a willingness to work hard with joy is certainly an important part of Christian character, some would be surprised how many times God encourages us to rest and relax. Trying to work our way into God's favor is sure to exhaust, so pull up a couch and rest your way through the rest of Hebrews chapter 4.
This message was originally given on Super Bowl Sunday 2020 - but Hebrews Chapter 3 is a great reminder that we can live Super Bold lives everyday because..."we are the champions, my friends."
Any dead fish can go with the flow; it takes a live fish to swim upstream. There is a strong current in any culture, and a lot of times the popular moves aren't necessarily the best ones. It's important to know who you really are so you will know what to do, even if everyone else isn't doing it.
If you are a coffee drinker, this sensory introduction to one of the most misunderstood and mysterious New Testament books is the perfect time to sit down with a mug of the good stuff. If you are a coffee sniffer, but not sure you actually like the taste, this message is the perfect time to enjoy a glass of water and drink deep of the truths within.
We live in the most mobile, portable, "take it with you" time in history. What a mistake it would be to have valuable truths just sit on the shelf and gather dust. If you can't take a truth with you and put it into practice throughout the week, what good is it really? Before we exit this world, we would be wise to consider if the things we are living for now will be valuable to us then. That's Joy to Go!
If there is one thing I have noticed, it is more natural to count my stressings than my blessings. Finding something, or someone, that you can truly count on through all the seasons of life is not always easy, but it is always worth it.
Does all that's happening in the world have you losing your mind? Maybe that's not all bad, if you find a better mind to replace it with.
I'll freely admit...it's easy to get down when things get difficult. And while it may seem like things are out of control, we do have some control over how we respond to things that were not as we would have chosen. Don't take my word for it, take God's word for it. This book was written by a guy named Paul who went through some crazy times, but found a way to find joy through it all.
Ever feel like your life is going nowhere, fast? The best of people can have this happen at the worst of times. Take a listen to what happened when some great people in the middle of nowhere took the same road twice in one day, and ended up going two different directions.
