40 Days – The number 40 is often considered a time of trial or testing (40 days of rain during the flood, 40 years of wandering, 40 days of temptation). The season of Lent leads the Church on a 40 day journey looking at Jesus’ trials and testing during Passion Week – beginning with Ash Wednesday’s warning of mortality and culminating at the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday. The Sundays themselves are not considered part of the 40 days, but are islands of refreshment in our Lenten walk. Each Sunday we will look at a location of testing and see Christ’s power.
