On episode 69 of Line of Sight, we get together and have a run through the impressive Grymkin 2019 CID! We’ve got weird base sizes, magic shovels, and charging monkeys aplenty in this episode, as well as a bit of news as to the events we’re going to and other goings on around the Warmachine Community. See you all next week!
On the first episode of the new year, we start things off nice with impressions of the first Active Duty Roster of 2019, Season 9. We talk about what kind of pairs we might like in each faction, and whether or not we think they can beat the most important metric of the season: can it beat Circle’s roster?
On our 67th episode of Line of Sight, Jaden and Chandler take some time to go over, in detail, all the main forms of organized play available to Warmachine players officially from Privateer Press. We go over Steamroller, Masters, Champions, Leagues, and big events like the Iron Gauntlet and Warmachine Weekend.
On Episode 66 of Line of Sight, Chandler makes a ghostly appearance at the beginning to raffle off our sweet quarterly and monthly raffle, and then Bret and Jaden have a nice chat with Tyson about the Las Vegas Open! A big thank you to Tyson for both his sponsorship of our show and for coming on to discuss what is the favorite event of the year for all three LoS hosts.
Our raffle winners are:
Small Based Blister - Philip Melvin! Non-Character Heavy Kit - Simon (the one without a last name on Patreon)! Painted Small Based Model - Simon Withers! $10 towards the figurepainters.com store - Danny Zimmerman!
Get ahold of us so we can get your information please!
On episode 65 of Line of Sight, the cast gets together much past their bedtime to chat about a bunch of questions sent in by our listeners! It’s a fun… and occasionally a bit spicey… discussion due to our general exhaustion. We’ll be doing our quarterly raffle on the next episode, so we can do it on the cast!
On episode 64 of Line of Sight, our hosts are back from a vicious weekend of competitive Warmachine at Warmachine Weekend 2018. We go over how the weekend played out, our runs through Champions and Hardcore as well as some other tidbits from the event, and finally talk about how the Invitational played out for all three of us.
All three of our hosts are on this week to have a chat about the past competitive year leading up to the up and coming Warmachine Weekend 2018 convention. We go over the qualifiers we made it to, some stories about the year as a whole, and what we're looking forward to in the year to come!
Chandler and Jaden team up today to have a chat with Charles Arrasmith, who after a great run of competitive play, podcasting, and other content creation has taken a break lasting most of the current edition. We talk a bit about why a player might leave the game, and what kinds of resources or advice Charles has for jumping back in to the giant chasm of re-learning the game we know and love.
On episode 59 of Line of Sight, Chandler and Jaden, exhausted from a long day of parenting, go over our list of tools and toys we bring to events besides just our models. Widgets, tokens, warsticks, and rings galore!
On episode 58 of Line of Sight, our hosts all hit different events over the last couple weeks, and we’re going to take some time to tell you about how they all went! All the chaos left us without an episode for a couple weeks, but we’ll be back and going strong until Warmachine Weekend.
On Episode 57 of Line of Sight, the Circle Community Integrated Development cycle is here! It's time to sit back, open up the testing document, and check out what it is that Privateer Press has in store for all of our host's mother faction this year. Lot of great stuff with just a dash of salt on this episode!
For Episode 56 of Line of Sight, Jaden and Bret take a look at the Dev Chat spoiled Tharn CID stats, expressing more excitement over their mother faction than you've heard in years!
Then, we discuss the Circle stats from the 2018 WTC which Bret has helpfully compiled. Tune in next week for (hopefully!) a full on discussion of the Tharn CID!
On Episode 55 of Line of Sight, we take some time to go over the Hordes theme forces, from Trollbloods to Grymkin, and a bit about which ones are of interest to the meta and which... aren't so much. Which themes are your favorites? Let us know!
This week on Line of Sight, we kick off the day with our quarterly raffle drawing for our wonderful patreon patrons! Then we kick into a long discussion on theme forces in 2018, going through all of the Warmachine factions and just generally giving a few thoughts on the 'theme' meta as we've evolved into another year of Warmachine! Stay tuned for our part 2 on Hordes themes!
On episode 53 of Line of Sight, all three hosts are back together to answer your questions, compiled from facebook, reddit, and anywhere else we could find them. We discuss a bit about the annual release of factions, how individual releases can effect their factions, and what we get out of making Warmachine media.
On Episode 52 of Line of Sight, Bret and Jaden talk about their thoughts on SR 2018, including how it impacts list design and play, and then jump into the newly minted Retribution of Scyrah CID! They go over their excitement for some of the new rules (Goreshade 4!) and wax eloquent about Ravyn as Jaden tries to convince Bret that she's actually really awesome.
For Episode 51 of Line of Sight, Jaden goes solo and embarks on a tour of all the proposed Tharn CID changes with his thoughts on them, what he'd like to see in addition, and weighing in on some sweet first take interactions he sees in the CID proposals.
After a couple week break, our hosts are back for episode 50 of Line of Sight! It's news for days as we go over all the exciting new things unveiled at Lock and Load 2018, and then we spend some time discussing our adventures in Seattle over the awesome Lock and Load weekend!
On episode 49 of Line of Sight, the whole crew is here alongside our guest Tseung Tsu to talk a bit about our games at the Rocky Mountain Rumble this year in Colorado! If you want to hear about a bunch of great Protectorate of Menoth and Convergence of Cyriss games, you've got them right here! Stay tuned for episode 50, as we are in the home stretch of prep for Lock and Load 2018!
On our 47th episode of Line of Sight, Chandler and Bret leap in on this week's subject on learning from mistakes. We go over a bit about talking with your opponents after games, the difference between recognizing tactical and strategic mistakes, and what things you can do try not to make those mistakes in the future.
On episode 46 of Line of Sight, Jaden takes over, joined by Cory Doyle and Chris Dancocks, to talk about their experiences at the recent Seattle Open 2018 while Bret is out at Warmachine stuff and Chandler is wrapped up in a blanket feeling like he made some mistakes. With any luck we'll all be back on for episode 47 next week, so stay tuned!
On Episode 45 of Line of Sight, we bring on guest host Jason Lang to talk a bit about this weeks big announcement: the Line of Sight team is officially taking over the reigns, with the help of the team that has run it for years, of Battlecollege.org. For more information on the announcement, have a listen! We will be posting the actual URL to the new site when it is ready, but wanted to get this off our chest now. Then we talk about a topic close to Jaden's heart this weekend; heading to a tournament or convention when you have little to no prep or practice.
The Exemplar CID is here for episode number 44 of Line of Sight! If you ever wanted to hear Chandler and Jaden ramble on about Protectorate goodness for an hour and a half, you've come to the right place. We go through the PDF of changes dropped on the first day of the Exemplar CID, giving first impressions, ideas of where things might (or might not) fit in the faction, and just generally get hyped for the weeks of testing to come.
Warmachine at its core is a social game, and with that comes a vast and great community of people around the world. By interfacing with that community, you can find friends all over the planet; wherever you go you can find a game and some people with similar interests. Navigating all that crazy social media can be daunting though, with all the pitfalls of any online community apparent and a massive amount of information both useful and.... not. On episode 43 of Line of Sight, our three hosts talk about Warmachine social media, where to find it, and how to survive your foray into the masses.
Episode 42 of Line of Sight really is the answer to life, the universe, and how to examine, identify, and create "dark horse" style lists and pairings. We've got all three hosts on for this one, and if you ever wanted to play around with something a bit off the beaten path and aren't sure if it's just cute or a real dark horse, come have a listen! Our rule of the week (or month? They're sporadic...) is how to handle yourself or your opponent not knowing what your models do. Stay tuned for next week!
With Jaden prepping for his wedding and Chandler on the road to attend it, Bret takes the helm to answer the remainder of the questions sent in by listeners! With all the excitement and travel over, expect us back on our regular schedule of nonsense soon!
On episode 40 of Line of Sight, Chandler interrogates Bret on his fantastic run through the Adepticon Masters event! Jaden is away this week in the midst of wedding planning, and Chandler will be headed up his way for the big event itself next week so... we shall see what episode 41 holds!
As is tradition every thirteen episodes, this week our hosts took a series of questions from various sources on social media from all of you! Jaden and Chandler take over the mass of great questioners from our listeners and readers, and we take the opportunity to do our quarterly raffle! Congratulations to our winners, listed below! Shoot us your relevant information and what you would like so we can send it your way.
Small Based Blister: Matthew Meldrum
Non-Character Heavy Kit: Nathan Willis
Small Based Blister Painted by Host: Simon Withers
On episode 38 of Line of Sight, our hosts talk a whole lot about assassination. What kind of things should you look out for when going for an assassination, what should you avoid to stop yourself from getting assassinated, and why is it that none of us play with assassination primarily in mind? Also a bit of an overview of the state of the Crucible Guard CID up to the point of recording and a quick breakdown of Chandler's time at the Intermountain Cup!
On Episode 37 of Line of Sight, all three of our hosts talk a bit about the proposed elemental immunity changes in CID, as well as giving first impressions on the entire Crucible Guard roster from the first week of CID for the new Warmachine faction! Check out next week for Chandler's report on the Intermountain Cup.
On episode 36 of Line of Sight, Chandler and Jaden go over the LoS Crucible Guard spoiler article from this week, getting more in depth opinions as well as some reactions to the community response than our article on its own would allow. Stay tuned next week for our run down of the start of the Crucible Guard CID, which begins March 7th!
On episode 35 of Line of Sight, Chandler and Bret talk a bit about the CID process as a whole. How has Community Integrated Development effected the models and factions it has touched, why does it work the way that it does, and how can you look at the process to better understand and help it move along efficiently. We also go over the process of the three week Khador "Armored Corps" theme force CID, detailing the tweaks and changes on a week by week basis.
On episode 34 of Line of Sight, Bret comes on for his first solo cast to talk a bit about minion solo options after the exciting Blindwater DLC releases. Bit of a shorter cast this week, keep an eye out for next week when the cast is back on together again!
On episode 33 of Line of Sight, our hosts bring on LVO Warmachine event organizer Tyson Koch to talk about Bret and Chandlers games in the LVO masters finals, then an extensive primer on running events, from small local level all the way up to a convention, with Tyson. In addition to the episode, we're including a living document Tyson is working on which includes all the information he goes over in this cast and more. If you have any questions about running these kinds of events, let us know! We would love to do more article and podcasting content about this sort of thing in the future for anyone interested.
On today's episode of Line of Sight, Bret and Chandler discuss playing lists that feature a lot of troops and a lot of models. We've got some tips about practicing deployment, moving upfield, and managing your clock when playing those infantry swarms we all know and love. The Rule of the Week this week is Orders!

On episode 29 of Line of Sight, all three of our hosts are here to discuss the remaining team list for the Americas Team Championship. The event is filled with interesting list and team designs, and we want to look at them all and see what's exciting!
On Episode 28 of Line of Sight, Jaden and Chandler go through the teams at the Americas Team Championship and talk a bit about the team compositions, lists, and overall statistics on the event. Stay tuned next week when we finish going through the teams and start our prep for LVO!
This past year has been a wild one for Warmachine and Hordes, progressing out of the baby steps of 2016 and through the growing pains of the first full year with the new edition. On episode 27 of Line of Sight, Jaden and Chandler go over the year from beginning to end, with the ups and downs, tweaks and changes, and fun experiences across the past 12 months of Warmachine goodness. Stay tuned for episode 28, and we'll see you next year!
It's the holiday season, and this year for Christmas we asked Butcher Claus for your questions! Bret, Jaden, and Chandler take some time going over questions posted by listeners from Facebook and Reddit, and despite our effort to keep the podcast normal length end up jabbering for an hour and a half about the game we love. Happy holidays to all of you, and we'll see you next week!
On episode 25 of Line of Sight, we take this opportunity after the recent spoiler of the Season 7 Active Duty Roster to talk a bit about building lists with ADR in mind. Should you even do it, and if so, how do you go about building your lists? Our rule of the week this week is the Conversion policies for Organized Play.
On Episode 24 of Line of Sight, Jaden and Bret talk to us a bit about Vassal. A great method for practicing your game outside regular play areas, with friends around the world, or if you just don't have anyone playing locally, we go over the ins and outs of getting your Vassal games set up and learning how the program actually works.
On episode 23 of Line of Sight, we bring on Tyson Koch, organizer of the Warmachine events at the Last Vegas Open. He goes over a bit about how to get set up for the event and what kind of fun things we can expect this year!
On episode 22 of Line of Sight, we discuss a bit of a hot button topic in the community on occasion: power creep. What exactly is power creep, and how, if at all, does it apply to the game we love?
On Episode 21 of Line of Sight, our hosts are back home and back on track with an in depth discussion on building your lists with the very unique Steamroller 2017 in mind. The current packet is likely the most complex and interesting Steamroller we've seen, and there are many nuances to think about during your list construction. Our rule of the week this week is involuntary movements during charges!
On this weeks episode of Line of Sight, our hosts are joined by boys from the L2Wargame crew as well as our friend Phil. We go over the prereleases and events going on at this year's Warmachine Weekend, talk about our games and experiences over the weekend thus far, and talk about years past. We'll be back to our regularly scheduled, topic-driven casts next week! Stay tuned!
On episode number 19 of Line of Sight, Chandler and Bret jabber on about excitement for Warmachine Weekend! What kind of things can you expect, what are the fun things to do, and what do we think matchups at this year's Warmachine Weekend Invitational going to look like? Our rule of the week this week is Timed Turns, a common clock format at Warmachine Weekend, although it was announced that the Last Chance Qualifier is in fact on Deathclock so part of that discussion is irrelevant!
On episode 18 of Line of Sight, our hosts talk a bit about building "silver bullet" lists. We examine when you should be opting for a silver bullet style list, what kind of builds may require a silver bullet for your faction to handle, and how far you should go to twist your list pair to handle specific matchups. We then proceed to make what is probably a dumpster fire of a Trollbloods list. Our rule of the week this week is Explosivo!
On our 17th episode of Line of Sight, Jaden and Chandler talk with our special guest Tim "The Enchanter" Banky, co-host on Arcane Assist, long standing Privateer Press Judge, and member of the 2017 Canada Moose WTC team, about dealing with emotional response to Warmachine games, or any game you're passionate about. This can be a very complex issue with a lot of different, and often very personal, reasons behind it, but we attempt to talk about it as honestly as possible and talk a bit about common reasons to go on tilt and how to either avoid them or come back from the brink of rage! Our rule of the week this week is Judge rulings on arguable game states.
On Episode 16 of Line of Sight, our hosts go over some of the more common options you might see now that mercenaries and minions are allowed (in limited fashion) into most theme forces. Our rule of the week this week is Ranking Officers and the Partisan rule for Mercs/Minions in theme forces.
On this weeks episode, we have a chat with Privateer Press Developer Will Pagani about the development behind the September theme force update, as well as a bit about the process behind CID and what kind of information is most useful to the development team. Our rule of the week this week is how attachments work with Warcasters and Warlocks!
On Episode 14 of Line of Sight, our hosts go over a bit about what to expect going into your very first convention! Some travel tips, what things to bring and look out for, how to survive multiple long days of gaming, and what kind of things can you expect to see and enjoy. Our rule of the week is a CID special for the new rule 'Last Word' and how it interacts with healing effects.
On unlucky episode number 13 of Line of Sight, we break the regular format to answer a ton of questions pooled from listeners across social media. Tons of great questions, thanks so much for the support!
On this weeks surprisingly Canadian episode, Bret and Chandler talk a bit about... meta, in all its forms, be it the metagame, your local meta, or the larger tournament/national/world meta. We wish Jaden luck while he's out at Attack X! Our rule of the week this week is a meta-rule; how to ask about rules, rules about clocks, and how to handle rules disputes at an event.
With the World Team Championship coming soon, Line of Sight decides to talk a bit about team tournaments. A very different beast to regular tournaments, team tournaments have very different preparation, play, and use of data vs. a regular event. Our rule of the week this week is about dice boosting and math!
We go over a bit about the current lineup of theme forces prepping for release in the month of September, as well as a few running through the late August - early September CID cycle. We also draw our names for our first quarterly raffle!
On Episode 9 of Line of Sight, a special episode original live streamed on Twitch.tv, Jaden and Chandler thoroughly go over every model that went up on the August 24th, 2017 CID cycle for the 12 Factions of Christmas, as well as a quick glance over the Dynamic Update preview posted the same day. Bret was travelling, but we'll be going over the theme forces in the CID with him next week! Stay tuned next week for our Patreon raffle!
Episode 8 of Line of Sight is all about feats! Except for the huge chunk of the episode devoted to Jaden's overview of his games at the recent Mox Boarding House Invitational in Seattle, taking his Grymkin out for a real competitive spin for the first time after Lock and Load.
On episode 7 of Line of Sight, our hosts touch on some news throughout the week, go over the steps that occur when a model is killed, and then talk a bit about list building in SR 2017.
On episode 6 of Line of Sight, we discuss a bit about how to practice with competition in mind, from how to handle initially designing a list, what sort of things to think about while playing your games, and what to do with the games you play once you're done. For our Rule of the Week, Jaden explains how the Grymkin Arcana rules work, super helpful for both Grymkin players and those expecting to face them!
On this weeks episode of Line of Sight, our hosts go over a bit about their philosophies for changing to a brand new faction, as many are in the wake of the Grymkin release (2/3 of the cast included!) This turns into a bit of an overview of the general concepts and faction identities of all the factions in the game. Our rule of the week this week is Frenzies, with a bonus rule in the form of the "Sprintwhack" maneuver!
Jaden takes the wheel today for a thorough overview of everything Grymkin has to offer, from the vicious Defiers down to the lowly Cask Imp. If you're unsure what Grymkin do, want to learn some of their rules and tricks, or just love Jaden's sultry tones, this is the cast for you.
On episode 3 of Line of Sight, our hosts talk a bit about the recent proposed CID change to Mercs and Minions being added into theme forces. While the rule itself is still subject to change, the concept is likely here to stay... what does it mean for the game as a whole?
Episode 2 of Line of Sight features this weeks news, a discussion on Throw power attacks, and then we go into details on our thoughts, philosophies, and ideas for preparing a list pairing for a tournament. What kinds of things you should think about, how to consider building for your meta, and what common tools are available to the various factions for different situations.
On Episode 1 of Line of Sight, we introduce Bret to the cast! Starting off with some news and our rule of the week, the main topic for today is the recent Privateer Press announcement that a new faction for the game will be released every year. Will this be good for the game? Bad? Do we even know enough to say?
Welcome to Line of Sight!
Episode 0 is our introductory episode for the cast. Jaden and Chandler go over a bit about the intention and futur of the brand new podcast and site, as well as some general information helpful for anyone wanting to keep an eye on things or support the cast itself. Very little direct Warmachine talk here, but a good primer for what we're up to and what you can expect in the future!
You can contact Line of Sight through email at LoSWarmaHordes@gmail.com, through our facebook page, or contact the hosts directly. Chandler is @LoS_Chandler on Twitter, Jaden is @LoS_Jaden, and both of us can also be reached through direct message on facebook.
