Jesus explains that if they had faith the size of a mustard seed, they would speak to the mountain, and the mountain would remove. At face value such an explanation is a paradox (a seemingly absurd or contradictory statement which when investigated may prove to be well founded or true). The preacher is encouraging the believer to reclaim the simple faith that saves, the simple faith that sets the captive free.

In Genesis 15:6 God declares Abraham righteous, because Abraham believed on the Word of the Lord. This also applies today for any Christian that believes in Jesus Christ. In the text a man brings his demon possessed son to Jesus after the disciples failed to cast it out, and a dialogue takes place highlighting the severity of the son's situation. The preacher shares the fact that Jesus sets the son free and answers a question poised by the disciples as to why they couldn't cast out the demon. Jesus tells them that this particular kind of foul spirit only comes out but by prayer and fasting. Prayer and fasting are a standard requirement for any Christian wishing to serve Jesus Christ in more than just lip service, and the aim of this sermon is to encourage all saints to fast and pray during these last days.

To be born again is to accept and believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that he died and was resurrected bodily on the third day for your sins. Even though Nicodemus was a ruler of the Jews and understood religion, he failed to see the truth of Jesus' words because he was thinking literally.
