I'm not exactly sure how to say this as I'm kind of confused right now, but my great friend Jamie Shadowlight passed away this past Saturday after bravely battling cancer. She truly was one of my closest friends over the past 10 years. I really believed she was going to beat the cancer, which is probably why I'm confused, angry, guilty and sad all at once. I know she would be honored if I remembered her in my livestream/podcast, so that's what I did this Wednesday June 12 at 4pm PST. I will honored Shadowlight by sharing memories about her and showing some of the videos of us playing music together over the past 10 years.

We've got republicans and democrats fighting, wars overseas, men and women at odds, the economy on the brink of collapse, a US presidential election, and so many things that one could wonder if this truly is the end times. This was discussed on this episode of my podcast. Hint: I still believe God is in control!

In this episode I gave my annual birthday speech, which this year happens to be my 47th birthday. My speech may not have been as well prepared as previous years, but the show must go. I’ve had tons of stuff going on in my world to distract me from writing my annual speech, but the show must go on. Also, I talked a lot about St Patty's Day. Also, I fixed my mixer so I was back to playing songs live.

After 7 years of traveling all over North America in my Toyota Prius, I have decided it is time I get an RV so I can have something to do my traveling properly. Namely, the RV has a bathroom and shower so I can feel like I'm part of civilized society when I'm on the road. The RV has a nice bed and plety of space for me to practice my music. The Prius has been AMAZING! I have saved so much money on fuel costs and maintenance, but the Prius is not what I envision for my life. It is really difficult for me to practice my music when I'm on the road in my Prius. Therefore, I have decided to take a chance on buying this 1984 Toyota Sunrader with only 24,000 original miles on it! I got a GREAT deal on it, but there is one catch...there was a factory recall on the rear axle that is very dangerous unless a person replaces it. I am confident I will be able to affordably fix this issue. You know what they say, I the 2 best days of an RV owners life is the day he buys the RV and the day he sells it. Well, here's hoping this is an exception. In this episode of the podcast I will share my stories so far about my new RV. I will also share some stories about the Volkswagen Van I had for years and why I think this Toyota Sunrader may be way better for me than the Volkswagen was.
Songs:
1 "California Stars" by Woody Guthrie and Wilco
2 "On The Road Again" by Willie Nelson
3 "Lost Soul Search" by Fast Heart Mart
note: If you need an affordable Prius, let me know. If everything goes to plan, I will be selling my Prius in the next few weeks as I just have enough space in my life to keep it and the RV both.
If you'd like to help me pay for the new RV you can donate here: https://gofund.me/f179196e

In this episode I talked about my predictions for 2024 and how it's ok to say "Happy New Year" all month of January.
NOTE: In this New Year I will broadcast every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month. Going weekly was fun, but I found that I was not able to have enough time for other things that need to get done. Perhaps I will go back to every week someday, but for now I want to see where twice a month takes me.

There's Christians. There's Jews. There's Muslims. There's Buddhists. There's Hindus. And there's a combination of them all called the Bahais, which is what I consider myself to be. I am a combination of all the religions that believes world peace IS possible. In this episode I will talk about my spiritual path that I have walked as closely as I could since 1997, called The Bahai Faith. I think this faith will solve a lot of the world's problems, even though there are some issues that I discovered during the pandemic.

On Wednesday Oct 4th, 2023, there was scheduled to be a national FEMA Emergency Broadcast through cell phones that was supposed last for 2 hours. Usually these broadcasts only go on few a few seconds, or minutes at most, so some people are concerned the cell phones are going to trigger some kind of Zombie apocalypse. Like so many things these days, I remain agnostic on the subject, but I went live at 4pm on Wednesday Oct. 4th, wether there were zombies or NOT! It is Halloween season. This episode was kind of mellow, with me saying very few outrageous things, which some people may prefer.

I have been in San Diego for exactly 10 years this month and this episode I did some reflecting about how that has been. Frankly, this episode is mostly me talking about my battle with clinical depression and Season Affective Disorder (SAD) which is the main reason I moved to sunny San Diego 10 years ago. However, the episode is very optimistic in that I talk about how I have overcome clinical depression and I give hope to people out there who may be dealing with depression.
Here is a blog post that I wrote a few years back about what I do to keep depression out of my life as much as possible:

I can hear people groaning and cringing now about me doing ANOTHER episode dedicated to this subject. However, I think I did a good job covering this topic last time. I have a few questions from listeners that I want to address in this episode AND I have a few more things to talk about that I did not have time to talk about last episode. Relax! I'll move on to other topics after this episode ;)

I fled San Diego California and headed to Phoenix Arizona for a few days thinking hurricane Hilary was going to make me a Claifornia refuge living in a FEMA camp. Well, the storm didn't cause any problems so I came home after about 36 hours in Arizona.
Everybody keeps sending me this Oliver Anthony song called "Richmen North Of Richmond" . I can't be the only envious musician out there wondering "this guy has only been at it for a few years and he's taking off". However, the more I get to know Oliver Anthony and his music, the more I like him. He deserves all the attention and he's inspiring me to return heavily to my guitar songwriting as people seem to be really resonating with these types of songs.

Kurt Cobain is one of my all time favorite musicians. God bless you Kurt Cobain and Rest In Peace. However, I often wonder how he would feel about the world if he were alive today? Would Kurt Cobain push the Covid-19 MAGA jabs like so many other rock stars? Would conservatives and truthers cancel/Bud Light Kurt Cobain if he were alive today? I will cover all this in this in this episode and explain why I recently put out a cover of Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and a story about my 9th grade math teacher who was also Dave Grohls' math teacher.

It's my first episode back after a year off. I feel called to speak out and so I will continue as best as I can. I believe we're living in a time when the human family has to come together and respectfully talk about all the elephants in the room. We must try and find the common ground amongst all us and focus on that.
In this episode of my podcast I attempt to explain why I like The Star Spangled Banner and the USA. It's a touchy subject to say the least. I recorded this episode at least 6 times over 3 weeks in an attempt to get it just right. It's still not perfect, but it's the best I could do for now.

Once again, I feel like speaking out some more against the main stream narrative.
Song is "CoronaCoaster Blues" by me, Fast Heart Martin Stamper.
I used to drive around the country in a 1982 Volkswagen diesel Vanagon that was fueled by vegetable oil. There were many breakdowns and adventures with that van. I talk about one adventure in this episode, then sing a song called "Lost Soul Search". Good bless the classic Volkswagen drivers of the world! They are the most self reliant vehicles on the road, if you can keep them on the road.
Why are there so many sperm donor signs all around my neighborhood these days? Does it have anything to do with the vaccines? Also in this episode I play a song called "Where Have All The Average People Gone?" which was written by Dennis Linde but made famous by, one of my favorites, Roger Miller, best known for his song "King of the Road". "Where Have All The Average People Gone?" is a great song about being a person who seems to be somewhere in the middle of the masses of people.

On this episode I had a special guest and friend named Jamie Shadowlight. Her and I talk about how excited she is to be a guest on my podcast, then we play an old timey song that I learned from the recordings of Dock Boggs & Doc Watson called "Country Blues", then we tell a banjo joke and then that's it for the episode.

I felt like getting back to an old timey sound and slow things down this week. Sometimes I get so caught up in trying to develop my own fast style that I forget why I fell in love with the banjo in the first place. . Shady Grove is one of my all time favorite songs and I love Clarence Ashley's version. I may not sound like Clarence Ashley, but I certainly try and in my effort a new sound is born that I have grown to accept. The White Stripes rock! However, I never used to trust Jack White for some reason, until I watched him live at Banaroo 2014. ....with a face-shield on, of course. I took a month off from this podcast because I needed a break from the world. I posted some things on social media recently that incited some conflict, about supporting restaurants in Southern California who are defying the lock down orders and also how I am opposed to mandating this experimental vaccine. I believe the virus is real, but I believe the threat of losing our small businesses is a bigger threat. I also believe that people are being left in the dark about how to take care of their own health, such as taking vitamin D supplements, to help boost their immune system. I appreciate people of all walks of life standing up for what they believe in, but I don't believe shaming is the answer. Therefore, for now, I have decided to focus my energy on my music through this complex time, by posting a song and a short joke each week. The podcast has been a ton of time & energy and I appreciate everyone who has supported me. I hope people will continue to support me moving forward when I "shut up and sing".
It seems like the 2020 Presidential USA election is finally over, right? Can we just go back to our lives now? Hopefully! However, I've seen some warning of tumultuous days ahead. Also in this episode I sing a song I wrote called "Southern California Christmas". Happy holidays everyone!
More info and tip$ jar here: https://linktr.ee/fastheartmart
"I'll Be Home For Christmas" is one of my favorite Christmas songs because "home" is where the heart is. I hope everyone out there in the world is at "home" and at peace with the world this Christmas, or whichever holiday you choose to observe. I not sure I believe Jesus was born on Dec. 25th, but I do believe this day has become a day for family and friends to stop everything and be as loving as possible. I wish people acted like it was Christmas all year round, but until then, at least we have this one day. Anyways, not much ranting on this video. Trying to keep it upbeat in these uncertain times we are in.

One minute you're up, the next minute you're down. One day you're up and the next day you're down. These are typical symptoms of the CoronaCoaster Blues. Should we do what the "leaders" are telling us and hunker down in our houses until we get a vaccine? Or is this all a plot against the human race? That's the extremes I question in my head. I personally think this pandemic is being used as a way to drive out small businesses so all the corporations get more power and we all have to work for them. But hey, what do I know? After all, the airlines are still flying people all around, so things can't be that bad, right? As always, I'm open to friendly, peaceful, debate and exchange of ideas. Just because people disagree does not mean they can't be friends.
I am reluctant to preach, but do your best to support small businesses through these times and do not leave your house if you have a fever. Ugh! Why am I even still doing this "podcast"? Is it even a podcast? Or is it a vlog? Well, I hope someone out there is enjoying it and I really hope it inspires people to speak their minds during these times, as well. The puppet masters can only take as much as the mass of people will let them.....
Anyways, I unleash a new song on this episode. I think some of the lyrics are too strong, so I will probably re-work them, but here is the song so far.

I lost some followers after my last episode titled "The White Man Stole This Land". I suspect I will lose some followers after this post as well, but so be it. It's hard to take, but I must speak out my truth and let people decide wether they want to continue to listen to me or not. Perhaps speaking my truth will attract new followers?
Everyone is in their own places with this "pandemic". Some think it will be over shortly, when the vaccine comes out. Some think the vaccines will be the beginning of the end of the human race. Some people think standing with the Black Lives Matter movement means you are on the "right side of history". I think listening to what your heart tells you and standing up for whatever you believe in is always putting yourself on the "right side of history", even if you do not participate in the Black Lives Matter movement, like myself.
The past, present and future all seem to be melding at this juncture in human history. I think the way through this is unifying and finding common ground amongst all of us so we can all create a better tomorrow for all the peoples of the world.

"The White Man Stole This Land" is an old song of mine from back in in 2005-ish. It's always been perplexing for me how to be at peace with the fact that the USA is a democracy that was build on land stolen from the Indigenous People of North America. I have high respect for The Indigenous People and the USA. In this episode I explore this topic a bit and caution the world that the we need to unite or else the nefarious forces of the world will do the same to us as the Europeans did to the Indigenous People of the Americas.

I recorded this episode on location in a San Diego desert. I failed to adjust my wireless vocal mic properly so the sound quality is a bit shoddy, especially when I perform the song "Limbo. "Limbo" is an older song of mine that I used to play on guitar. In an effort to simplify my life these days I am only playing banjo. I also only play banjo because I make more money in tips when I am playing out in the streets.
Anyways, I was NOT going to release this episode as I did not think the sound quality was good enough. However, the world currently feels like it's in Limbo now after the 2020 election. The media declared Joe Biden the winner, but the US government seems to still be deciding? Nobody knows anything anymore and we are waiting in limbo for the world to get back on track. In this song "Limbo" I am singing about dropping out of society and living on an island with a pretty woman. Although this song was written 16 years ago, the urge to live on a desert island with a pretty woman and drop out of society is stronger in me now more than ever. I am sure many people can relate.
I hope everyone can enjoy this video, despite the sound issues.

I started this podcast in attempt to stay connected to my fans during this global pandemic and I hoped to attract new fans as well. I'm not sure it's done much of either. The longer this "pandemic" goes on, the more politicized everything has become, so much so that I now feel uncomfortable speaking on current events. However, I guess I'm the type who doesn't start something if I can't finish it. So, the show goes on. I explain in this episode why I think it is still ok to love the USA. I also perform "The Star Spangled Banner" on my banjo. I practiced this song for weeks and still messed up in a few spots. I won't be the first to remark how difficult our national anthem is to sing/play.

I officially released my song "So Many Problems" a month ago. I perform it on this episode because I feel like its message of "be the change you want to see" is becoming more and more important as the time goes on with this "pandemic" etc.. In 2001 I had to ask myself "what am I going to do about this attack on Iraq and Afghanistan that I don't agree with?". We must always ask ourselves, what are we doing about the problems that we want to fix?

Sorry it's been a while since I posted a new episode of this "podcast" series. I was on the road most of August, then I felt stifled to speak about everything that's going on in the world. It's like walking on egg shells trying to speak your mind these days. I have certainly been learning a lot about peaceful communication through all of this and I am grateful for that. The world has been out of balance for years now and my hope is that all of this turmoil will lead to more balance for everyone.
Crazy Train by Ozzy Osbourne seems to be a fitting song for these times...

It might be an unpopular choice for me to hit the road for 3 weeks in the midst of this global pandemic, but a few of my shows up in Idaho, Montana and Colorado are still on. People can judge me all they want, but sometimes I just need to get away and continue my life as much as I can while still being responsible. I still boost my immune system, wash my hands, wear a mask when around others and social distance. If people can't understand that, then so be it. Haters are always gonna hate. Hate and intolerance are never ok, no matter what side you are on. I'm doing the best I can with this pandemic. Some things in life are beyond our control. Peace and unity are always the way. It's a big world and we should all make it a top priority to get along, especially in times like these.
I perform a song called "High On A Mountain" in this episode. It was written by Ola Belle Reed. Ola Belle Reed is a musician I have been aware of for a long time, but never really dug deeper into until about 3 years ago. Her whole catalogue is great! Check her out!

Everyone has their opinion on what's happening in the world, but sometimes I wonder if ANYONE knows? I mean, no one really knows anything about anything during non-pandemic times, so why would anyone know anything now? A few things I find to be certain: boost your immune system, grow a garden, wear a mask, social distance, and have peaceful discussions with your friends, family and neighbors.

Of all the bad things that have affected me personally during this pandemic, my bass player Tom Warner moving away to Wisconsin is one of the saddest. Having a good, reliable bass player that is also a good friend is worth gold to me. So I wrote a song called "My Bass Player Packed Up and Left" about my bass player Tom Warner. We play it and a few others on this episode, as well as some talking between songs. Enjoy! Bon Voyage Tom Warner! I wish you all the best in Wisconsin and beyond!

Well, a lot has happened in the world since I took a break 3 weeks ago. A black man named George Floyd was brutally murdered by a white cop in Minneapolis. Racism is a persistent problem in the world and so is police brutality. I have respect for all the peaceful protesters protesting racism and police brutality. The world was out of balance before this global pandemic struck in March 2020 and I believe it is time we find more balance all the human race to thrive and co-exist.

I’m in a down sort of mood this week. Don't worry! I'm fine! I’m just tired and so I'm going to take a few weeks off. It seems like all this is coming to an end now. But is it really? I’m not sure I want to return to the “real world”. I'm gonna take some time off for organizing my apartment and gardening. I need a staycation. On this episode I played some older songs of mine that I feel never received the attention they deserve. It’s been interesting taking this time off from gigging and starting this podcast. I’m getting a chance to get back to my darker side. I think I’m going to go in that direction until I have to get back out there and make some money IF the world ever goes back being "normal".

My parents were in town so I figured I'd get them in on the podcast. My parents have been huge fans of my musical journey for 21 years now. They were also alive during the Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918, so I figured I'd get their perspective on this Coronavirus pandemic that we are currently experiencing. Just kidding! My parents weren't alive in 1918 BUT they are big supports of my music and they were my first patrons on Patreon.

Jeremy "The Typewriter Troubadour" Brownlowe is a friend and fellow busker. He also plays drums with me when my usual drummer can't make it. We played a Leonard Cohen song called "Everybody Knows" which the perfect anthem to this pandemic. Then we played a Fast Heart Mart song called "Reinvent". In between songs we discus how we first met and finding the balance between dark & light as a professional artist. more info about him here: http://www.typewritertroubadour.co

Back in 2005 my friend Rob Nakai of Albuquerque New Mexico made a documentary about me. It was recently released on YouTube so I decided to show it on my podcast this week. Watch the unaltered documentary at Rob Nakai's channel here: https://youtu.be/xhuWPXMLn9E
Warning: Listening to this episode in audio format without video may not be very entertaining, but give it a listen and decide for yourself ;)

Topics included in the full episode: - This podcast brought to you by: Jay in San Francisco for the moral support, Julie England in Taos, Daniel Freeman Gin Berry & family in Silver City NM, Greg Mcdonald in San Diego CA, Lois at the Big Timber Sweet Grass County Farmers Market , Cole in Boston, Cynthia in Berlin Germany, Elizabeth Pollock in Franklin IN, Ally for the helpful info... - If you’d like to support this podcast please tip me through Venmo and/or PayPal - Enough with the business, on with the show! - I think what I was getting at with the last episode was that I hope I can maintain being a full time musician. Back in 2008 the economy crashed and I could not be a full time musician anymore. I don’t want to have to work for Amazon, the only company that seems to be hiring right now. Every artist finds their market and niche. Mine was Farmer’s markets, then BOOM, global pandemic baby!!! Gotta reinvent myself AGAIN - Ok, speaking of being a full time musician, I am going to play a song for you now called “Depression Proof”. I want to dedicate it to Cole in Boston. Cole and his family lived in New Mexico for a long time. I used to go down to Silver City and play music for them at Javalina's Coffeehouse... - Well, this video podcast is really teaching me to look at myself and listen to myself like never before. I think I look stubby in that video. My hair is a disaster. The green screen affect just makes the whole thing a pile of mess, But hey, I trudge on. I may not be great at what I do, but at least I have never given up. I’ve tried, but it hasn’t worked. - Hopefully one day I’ll always know what to do with my hair. I’ll find my life hair? I mean I like to dress up, but only when Im in the mood and have time, otherwise, forget, I’m lucky to get where I’m going on time - "Depression Proof" was performed on a Gold Tone Missing Link baritone banjo designed by Bela Fleck. - "Depression Proof" recorded with a Cascade X 15 stereo ribbon mics - You probably noticed, if you are watching this podcast, that I was playing on the street corner? That’s a street corner near my apartment here in San Diego in North Park. I green screened it in. Working on my green screen skill here folks. - While one of my walks I Tipped out water for mosquito prevention. I had to hop an 8 foot fence - A genius sees 2 moves ahead, a madman sees 4 moves ahead. I am growing a garden and looking for ways to store water and I bought a fishing pole. - I thought I had a fever last Sunday. Freaky. - Social distancing with the lady of the night in line behind me at the bank - Only using three sheets of toilet paper per wipe now, I used to use like 12 squares per wipe! - Joke: What did the Australian say when he ran out of toilet paper? - Inspirational story of palm tree that was cut down - “It’s Upon Me Now” is a slow and somber song I've been creating this week. I have to admit, I’ve been feeling slow and somber many times throughout this past week. I am performing this song on a Goldtone Cello banjo with nylon strings in front of a sunset on Bird Park near my apartment. - Thanks everyone for listening! Remember, if I don’t see you in the future, I’ll see you in the pasture!

Topics included in the full episode:
- I’m not in a chipper mood today. I do try to Keep on the Sunny Side, but sometimes you have to acknowledge where the darkness is so you can bring some light to it.
- Is my podcast just another distraction, keeping people from seeing what's important right now?
- Less and less people are tipping me. I get it. No one has an income right now so why would they tip me? Don’t be afraid to tip just a buck. It’s whatever...If you can't tip, it's fine too, just enjoy :)
- I love playing the farmers’ markets that I play! I love busking out on the street. I feel free. I miss it. Am I going to have to go work at Amazon when I run out of money?! Ugh!!! - Am I cheapening my brand with these podcasts?
- I’m getting less and less views and likes etc..
- That feeling when someone un-follows you on social media
- I could choose not to discuss anything about this pandemic. I also don’t want to be a distraction, so I could just shut down completely. I could just go chill out and drink a beer, BUT I want to do my life’s work, which is songs and music and story telling and jokes. AND I could help by passing on useful info.
PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: Things you can do to prevent spread of virus:

- Is Amazon profiting off of this thing more than they should be? -
I hear some people in an uproar that the military is moving large tanks and machines into towns. What can we do about it?
- If we really want to defy the government's possible attack against us, stop paying taxes. - Should we boycott Amazon until they treat their workers properly?
- How do we trust any news? Listen to your heart. Does it resonate?
- get off YouTube and Facebook? They are dtat mining? Use Vimeo and Minds.com instead?
- Use other search engines besides Google?
- The point is, we think we are getting Facebook, Instagram and YouTube for free. But are we?
- We want to blame the politicians, but meanwhile we spend money on things that contribute to the problem. Are the Amazon workers being treated fairly?
- We went through this with George Bush Jr.. Yet I still bought gas.
- We went through this with Walmart, so we boycotted Walmart, but but now we have Amazon which a zillion times bigger...
− We could free ourselves if we knew we weren’t free. Jeff Bazos didn’t do anything TO US, we do it to ourselves when we don’t question where our money is going… We used to live in harmony with nature, now we just want to go camping whenever we can
- Joke of the Day: What did Jeff Bezos say to Bill Gates when they met?

Well, bear with me folks while I figure what the heck I'm trying to do here. Episode 3 is 50 minutes long because I felt the need to yammer on about what I believe is going on in the world today. I don't know? Is anyone even capable of watching this whole thing?
I hope someone enjoys this episode. I definitely had fun making it....
WARNING: at 42:12 I did drop one F-bomb during a joke, but I bleeped it out. The F-bomb was necessary for the punch-line of the joke...
Other topics include: what I am doing to prepare for things to come, such as gardening, sprouting, stocking up on supplements, do I use my credit cards or cash first?, the challenges of reorganizing my music business, the challenges of creating a podcast, how I was late to the Grateful Dead party even though I've always loved the song "Touch of Grey", my beard is growing longer than I've ever let it before, the duality of everything in life and other fascinating things... BUT who the heck knows what is really going on?! I choose to believe that we need to maintain our isolation until this thing is under control, but what the heck do I know?! South Korea seems to have done a great job with early Coronavirus testing AND they are required to wear masks AND exercise social distancing. South Korea seems to be a best case scenario model BUT the USA did not provide early testing, so the USA is in a different situation.
Stay safe, peaceful and healthy out there everyone.
Songs performed:
1 "Touch of Grey" by The Grateful Dead
2 "Just Gettin' Started" by Fast Heart Mart

Well, episode 1 was fraught with so many technical dificulties that I was already burnt out when I shot episode 2 here. I was in a foul mood, with thoughts that all this work is a waste of time, so I wanted to play something angsty. Therefore, I played "Seven Nation Army" by the White Stripes. Then I played an angsty song I've been writing over the past few months called "Play On". "Play On" is a song about how we all know the world is in upheaval, but we have to "Play On" like the musicians on the deck of the Titanic as it's going down. It's supposed to inspire strength. Enjoy!
PS Thanks to everyone who tipped me for yeaterday's video! This might work out after all :)

It's been a long week here at the FHM headquarters in San Diego CA. All my gigs canceled on me until further notice, so I have no income right now, except for banjo students online and video editing. Let me know if you need either of those services during this time.
I've spent half of the first week of the pandemic in a stupor, wondering if this is REALLY happening... It is, so I had to find a new game plan. The game plan is to keep on playing my music as much as I can. I usually play 3-4 gigs a week, so I will post 3-4 videos a week of me playing music. Just like 50% of my gigs, I play and hope someone is there to enjoy it and throw a tip in my bucket. I will do this as long as it makes sense.
Songs played:Keep on the Sunny Side: American song originally written in 1899 by Ada Blenkhorn (1858–1927) with music by J. Howard Entwisle (1866–1903)
