A cryptocurrency is a digital or virtual currency that is secured by cryptography, which makes it nearly impossible to counterfeit or double-spend. Many cryptocurrencies are decentralized networks based on blockchain technology—a distributed ledger enforced by a disparate network of computers. A defining feature of cryptocurrencies is that they are generally not issued by any central authority, rendering them theoretically immune to government interference or manipulation.* Easy, right? Got it? Me neither! Good thing Matthew Leightman educated us all about cryptocurrency. This was such an informative conversation.

A parent’s worst fear is the premature death of their child. While we can never predict what life holds for us, we must keep moving forward. Life goes on. Noted sportswriter Ivan Maisel experienced just that. His 21 year old son, Max, died in February 2015. Through Ivan‘s grieving, he learned a lot about himself, his family, grief and life. And then somehow he found inner strength and courage to write I Keep Trying to Catch His Eye - A Memoir of Loss, Grief and Love. This is an insightful book about mental health and its impact on family. Such a powerful read. Such an important message. Thank you, Ivan, for sharing your family’s story with us.

In the world of workers’ compensation, there are three main people involved - the injured worker, the worker’s attorney, and the insurance adjuster. Most of the time, the parties work through the claim with relative ease. However, sometimes the issues become sideways and the parties – usually the attorney and adjuster - must work through this to the satisfaction of their respective clients. Tracey Stallings has many years as a claims representative working with attorneys in the workers’ compensation process. We discussed these situations with Tracey and how the parties should work toward solutions with relative ease.

This past summer, when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in NCAA vs. Alston, the NCAA rules on athletes accepting benefits and earning money for their name, image and likeness changed. John and Leslie McElheny are foster parents. What a noble act on their part. Foster parents play a critical role in helping children heal. They show children stability and teach them life lessons that last a lifetime—and potentially affect future generations. However, like any parents dealing with children, being a foster parent can be an emotional roller-coaster. Thank you, John, for sharing your journey and a closer look at being a foster parent.

Shan Foster, Vanderbilt University's basketball programs all-time leading scorer and anti-domestic violence advocate, has wrestled with these questions. From witnessing domestic violence, to getting drafted into the NBA, to working in the movement to end violence against women and girls, Foster has seen and felt the ways that our culture perpetuates unhealthy masculinity. Now, he tells his life story to show that no one has to face an "either-or" decision - being a man doesn't have to look exactly one way. Shan's message is so important to be shared. We are thankful that Shan shared his story with us today!

What happens when an NFL player is injured? Are his injuries covered under work comp? Who pays the medical bills? Does the player still get paid when he is rehabbing and not on the active roster?
We addressed these questions and many more with former NFL vet Chris Gronkowski. After graduating from the University of Arizona, Chris played in the League (Cowboys, Colts, Broncos and Chargers) for four seasons before retiring in 2013. Chris is the middle brother of the famed Gronkowski brothers, all of whom played professional sports. Currently, Chris has a thriving business (https://www.iceshaker.com) and can be found all over social media (Gronk’d UP podcast - https://apple.co/2KhWstS), including his very popular Q&A on Tik Tok (https://bit.ly/3nDqt5T) that centers on life inside the NFL.
As is almost expected, most NFL players suffer some type of injuries during their career. Many injuries are temporary, but often they can be career threatening. Twice Chris was injured while playing that led to him being treated and unable to play. Little is known by the general public about how the players are treated and what happens when they have a work comp claim. Thank you, Chris, for sharing your experiences and time with us!

Bill Baxley was elected Alabama Attorney General at age 28. Remarkably, he was already a seasoned prosecutor, having tried dozens of jury trials as District Attorney in Houston and Henry counties. He served as Alabama's Attorney General from 1971 to 1979 and its Lieutenant Governor from 1983 to 1987. As Attorney General, Bill served as lead trial counsel in every major action on the State's behalf, both civil and criminal. He aggressively prosecuted them all. He appointed the state's first African American assistant attorney general, who later became a federal judge. His successful prosecution of Ku Klux Klansman Robert Chambliss for the 1963 bombing of Birmingham's Sixteenth Street Baptist Church is featured in the Spike Lee documentary, 4 Little Girls. His legal accomplishments are also documented in Lay Down with Dogs, Until Justice Rolls Down, and numerous other publications. So many incredible stories by one of Alabama's most famous lawyers. Thank you, Mr. Baxley, for sharing some of your incredible experiences with us.

NOMBERG LAW LIVE: Bernard, Jeremiah Evans and Dr. Billy Lapidus discuss Sam Lapidus Montclair Run and making healthy choices during the holiday season.
The Sam Lapidus Montclair Run honors the short but very full life of Sam Lapidus, who died of Ewing’s sarcoma, a form of childhood cancer, in November 2008 – just nine days before his 15th birthday. Funds raised from the run will be donated to the Alabama Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children’s of Alabama and the Levite Jewish Community Center. As we approach Thanksgiving this year, we give thanks for all our friends and family, and for those who run and walk and support our efforts to put an end to childhood cancer.
Jeremiah Evans is a nationally known fitness trainer. He takes fitness goals seriously. Jeremiah understands that losing weight and gaining muscle can be challenging, and his goal is to help overcome hurdles and reaching goals.
