Email the Battle Bards!
This week is an... unusual episode for the Battle Bards, but a fun one nonetheless! The challenge was sent out for each of the bards to pick one song apiece for his or her co-hosts. Will they like them? What do these picks say about how the bards see each other? Will there be a throw-down before all is said and done? Find out!

Talk about a challenge! How do you pick a handful of tracks to represent a game that's been around for so long that it has over 1,000 pieces of original music in it? Fortunately, the Bards are up to the challenge as they tackle RuneScape, that free-to-play game that probably deserves more respect than it gets.

It's the end of the world as we know it -- but it's the beginning of the music revolution as we hear it! In this episode, the Battle Bards don their best Mad Max costumes and tackle MMO music that comes straight from the many apocalypses that game designers have imagined. Surprising enough, it's not that bleak!

While we did a Wildstar episode back in show #6, we felt as though we didn't do that soundtrack justice (not the least of which was the fact that we didn't have access to the full OST yet!). Now that the Bards have listened to almost 200 WildStar tracks, it's time to pull their favorites and discuss this wild, zany musical romp!

It's going to be impossible to keep from tapping your toes during this week's show! The Battle Bards bust out all manner of lively jigs and shanties for the enjoyment of all, and even their past feuds are set aside to dosey-do in front of the tavern fireplace. We also tick off accordian players across the globe.

The Elder Scrolls soundtracks have a legendary reputation in the video game community, but when you take Jeremy Soule (mostly) out of the mix, can the MMO score stand up to this legacy? The Battle Bards investigate in an exploration of this massive OST of one of the new MMOs of 2014.

Pack your coin purse, for the Battle Bards are off to the market! In this episode, we'll examine music not only from MMO marketplaces, but tracks that inspire the feeling and atmosphere of bustling towns, harbors with ships being unloaded, and merchants selling exotic wares. It's so much happy and uplifting music that you'll forget to be an internet cynic for at least two days!

This week we welcome Composer Tracy W. Bush onto the show to talk about his vast experience in the MMO industry. His body of work includes World of Warcraft, DCUO, Dungeon Runners, Tabula Rasa, Free Realms, and City of Heroes. He's also quite the talker, so if you want to get some insight into how the creative process works on a deadline, this will be the episode for you! Also, you'll hear Tracy recreate his Murloc voice -- yup, this is the guy who created that iconic sound.
Unfortunately, this week Steff was AFK, so it was up to Syl and Syp to grill Tracy. Don't worry, Steff will be back for episode 37!

A good D&D session doesn't only need character sheets and an abudance of 20-sided dice, but atmospheric tunes as well. What kind of soundtrack does the long-running Dungeons & Dragons Online have? The Battle Bards investigate DDO's score this week, in particular contrasting the old tracks with the newer expansion ones. As usual, Syp stands mostly alone.

While many soundtrack pieces are a collaboration between an entire orchestra, once in a while a single instrument will take the forefront and steal the spotlight. Those tracks are the theme of today's show, in which the faithful Bards choose seven MMO songs that feature a dominant instrument. Also, there is much whining because that is what we do best.

As we've proven before on Battle Bards, free-to-play and foreign doesn't mean that the soundtrack is going to be lame. On the contrary, scores like Allods Online is what gets us out of bed in the morning, pumped for another day of listening to excellent MMO music! We've got several great tracks from Allods today, so put on your listening ears and uncover your tapping toes.

In this episode of Battle Bards, the hosts face their greatest threat yet: fire! Yes, this show was disrupted by a genuine fire emergency, but happily everyone came out of it unscathed. When you think of MMO music, it's rare to put a voice to the tunes. But more often than you'd think, these tracks have amazing vocals that lend an important layer to the proceedings. In this episode, the bards focus on their favorite MMO songs -- and even break out in a ditty or two themselves!

When the bards aren't playing their tunes (or at least listening to them), they're facing down the fiercest, biggest bad guys in all of MMOs. It's at this point of conflict that they raise a finger and say to the Undead Lord of Hell, "Oh hey, is this song included on the official soundtrack?"
That's right, it's an entire episode devoted to "epic" boss battles! How epic is up to each of the hosts' interpretation, but it's pretty dang entertaining nevertheless.

For their final podcast (of the year), the Battle Bards are singing the saga of heroes. If that's too vague, we'll just be up-front. It's Vanguard. We're talking Vanguard's OST. Sometimes the Battle Bards have to give attention to the "little MMOs" out there. Maybe you've never heard of World of Warcraft, but you probably have played Warcraft: Orcs & Humans back in the day. Embark on a journey with us overseas, as the Battle Bards sail to the lands of Lineage 2. It's a plus-sized soundtrack with surprisingly good music, and we're all about bringing you the best of the best. Except for the one track that Syl held back for show 13 because she wanted to spite Syp. Not that Syp is bitter. It's a musical journey of cymbals, sunsets, and unicorn dreams. This week on Battle Bards, Syl, Steff, and Syp sail off to Norrath for a good dose of EverQuest 2. We're really excited and proud to announce a new project: Battle Bards, an MMO music podcast! Ever since I started writing about MMO soundtracks, I've realized that there are others out there who are equally enthusiastic about these scores -- and that a podcast would be an excellent way to share our collective passion. It's taken us a few months to get organized and figure out how best to do the show, but here it is, the first episode of Battle Bards!
Our maiden episode is all about our favorite main themes. Give it a listen and give us feedback!
