Here we are with another episode of the Who is Asheville podcast. Today, we'll chat with Kevin Dylus, the director of Blue Ridge Marksmanship LLC, a firearms training academy located in Western North Carolina. Listen to Kevin’s story as he talked about how he ended up in the military, how they chose Asheville, and how he built his training academy.
Kevin is a man who doesn’t love much change. Although he adapts to the changes around him, he would have wanted things to remain the way they are. That’s why he’s stayed in the military for 25 years, been married to the same woman for nearly 24 years, and used only six vehicles throughout his life.
In the military, Kevin learned not only discipline and following rules. Above all, he learned how to be responsible for other people’s lives. He realized that his decisions could alter the lives of the men under him. Check out the rest of the episode and discover how Kevin’s firearms training academy came to be and all the other ordeals he had to go through that shaped him as the father, husband, and instructor he is today.
Kevin talks about his early days as a military man, how he fell in love with Asheville, and ultimately establishing a firearms training academy just 45-minutes away from the city. Listen to the episode and hear him share his funny and inspiring story of adapting to change, love, and survival.

Taylor Johnson is a sex educator and a coach for men. He lives in Asheville, where his online business is based. Taylor has a specific niche, but it's not something that people often talk about in public. While Asheville is a beautiful place to live in with a magnificent landscape to boot, it is still a growing place. It lacks the entrepreneurial community that startup businesses need. However, this didn’t deter Taylor to establish his brand in the area. With real estate developments on the rise, more people are coming into the city to make it their permanent home. The market is growing. This growth contributed to the slow but sure growth of business communities. Putting your investment in the area and starting your own brand is now a great idea.
It has become a city with endless possibilities. Taylor Johnson took this chance to share his journey, challenges, and the ultimate experience of becoming a person who can speak his mind about a universal matter: Sex.
Becoming a Photographer and Filmmaker His career in photography and films wasn't set in stone. He never thought that he'd become one. He went to school, finished his senior year, and went to university. He took the usual path. After studying, he didn't know what he wanted to do.
It took him five years to land the kind of work he was happy doing: taking shots and making films. And all these because of a split-second choice. He chose a book on filming instead of a book on Physics. However, this didn't come as a surprise to him. After all, he'd loved taking pictures when he was still a child. Photography has always been a part of him.
The income didn't come in easily. As a beginner, he had to hustle and work multiple jobs. It took him years to make his career a stable one. While he lacked experience, he made up for his growing YouTube channel. He used his understanding of video editing, lighting, and other technical stuff to create online courses for different companies.
This content creation became one of the catalysts to his next stop as a sex educator and coach for men.
From Photography to a Sex Coach Taylor loves creating. He loves taking moments and making them eternal memories using his camera. However, he also loves the business side of things. For example, he saw how his bookshelves were filled with books on sex and relationships instead of books on films and photography.
This was a big step for him. He meditated on what he wanted and figured out how little he knew of himself and sex. He lacked the basic sex education and only had porn as his reference, which isn't a good reference when you're in a committed relationship.
His ex was a sex coach, and he offered her his services. He'd create the videos and take care of all the backend stuff. The turnout was good! They did it for months, and during that time, he realized how there was no sex education for me. The idea was then born, and it appeared in his blogs, Instagram, and podcasts.
Let's Talk About Sex The truth is that most people want to learn about sex, but it's not a topic you talk about at dinner. It's an experience shared by everyone, but not many references are created about it. This is because it has always been a taboo subject.
Passion x Business It isn't easy to navigate both passion and business on equal terms. Often, passion has to take a back seat to accommodate the business aspect. But, if that goes on for too long, he takes a stick back and thinks of how to get back his passion.
Like every other entrepreneur, Taylor had his fair share of challenges. He wondered why there was a need to expand, grow, and take on more responsibilities for the businesses. There were times when he lost connection with like-minded people. It affected his thought process immensely.
He realized that there was not much community for his niche. Hence, the birth of his podcast. It helped him find his passion and got his goal back up, to provide value for people. His online courses aren't for him but for those like him with similar pain points.
Overcoming Burnout The podcast helped in overcoming burnout. It was a vision, and he achieved it. He traveled and did workshops. The workshop was a game-changer, and it helped him gauge his feelings.
It's incredible for a group of guys to do something like an immersion. Society demands that men be strong and shed no tears. Men are thought to be emotionless. But many out there struggle with that expectations.
The workshops Taylor went to let men break down and connect with their true selves. For Taylor, it allowed him to release his pent-up emotions. It didn't affect him on just the personal level; it also permeated his business. The more connected he is to his true self, the more open his company becomes.
Sex Education Courses for Men There were many trials and errors before Taylor's sex education courses for men became the success it is today. There were doubts, tears, and regrets, but with the help of his business coach, he realized how important his visions are, especially to his target audience.
Orgasmic Mastery is one of his biggest courses. The goal is to help men overcome premature ejaculation and erectile dysfunction and have the sexual experience they want. This topic is a huge pain point for men. When he finished it, he knew he needed outside help to market the course out to the world. He spent quite a huge amount of money for a business coaching session, but it was all worth it.
The best thing about being a sex educator is being able to talk about this taboo subject without feeling conflicted. While it's a difficult conversation to have with people or strangers, it still connects the mind. It's a universal subject, a universal experience, so it's not surprising that other people have their thoughts about it.

What impact will the recent national eviction moratorium have on Asheville renters and landlords? We spoke with attorney Douglas Tate for the details.
On Tuesday, September 1, the federal Centers for Disease Control and Protection (CDC) announced a new eviction moratorium in the United States. It puts a freeze on evictions for tenants affected by the pandemic until January 2021. For an overview of the non-pandemic evictions process in North Carolina, read this post.
About the expert: Doug Tate is an attorney who has been practicing for 30 years, both in Raleigh and then in Asheville since 2000. Doug works with the creditors rights law and represents landlords and tenants. His goal is to make sure anyone who needs an attorney can have one, so he works with folks who don’t meet the income criteria at Pisgah Legalbut can’t afford traditional rates. Doug approaches his cases from a business as well as a moral perspective, as he believes landlords have a certain obligation to provide a habitable home. It’s a business, it’s an investment, and it comes with moral and ethical obligations.
Johnny Kucsera is a professionally trained adult educator who also actively practices real estate.
