It's a story that's haunted every Christmas since 1843 — A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. It's one of the most famous books ever published, and one of the most often adapted for film and television. Among the countless versions of Dickens' classic, one stands apart as the darkest and most chilling: the 1984 adaptation starring George C. Scott. It's a version that is sobering, heartbreaking and utterly frightening. My Haunted Head wishes you a haunted Christmas. #christmas #horror #achristmascarol

Christmas horror is the collision of warmth and menace…it turns tradition upside down, and nothing is safe or sacred. The promise of peace and joy might be interrupted by something dark and malevolent creeping down the chimney. Long before killer Santas became a full-blown subgenre, and long before SILENT NIGHT DEADLY NIGHT raised the ire of mothers everywhere, there was one short story that quietly set the template. WHAT IS CLASSIC ROCK? If you had asked back in 1990, bands like Jimi Hendrix, Steppenwolf and The Doors would have come to mind. But as the years have gone by, and so many groups have been around that much longer, it’s a phrase that has come to encompass countless other artists. Metallica may be regarded as a thrash band, and Guns N Roses a hair metal band, but they’ve been around for 38 and 42 years, respectively - they’re classic rock now. Their music has become woven into the fabric of our collective lives. Their songs have helped to define an era. And this far into their careers, their days are numbered. This is not a eulogy for classic rock bands; rather, it's a wake up call. Join Toddzilla and Corey as they celebrate the greatest rock bands of our time, and the inevitable end that they will all come to. Kent Collins grew up as a Monster Kid, feeding his haunted head a steady diet of Universal Monsters and DC comics through the late 1970's and early 1980's. And then horror slashed its way into his life in a big way when he saw FRIDAY THE 13th and SLEEPAWAY CAMP. Kent and I kept showing up at the same events this past year or two, so I decided it was time to make a proper introduction from one monster kid to another. It seems like every few years movie fans are treated to a heaping helping of deja vu, when Hollywood releases a series of similarly-themed films. In 1996, there was TWISTER and its doppelganger TORNADO starring Bruce Campbell. In 1997 we got DANTE'S PEAK and VOLCANO. 1998 brought us the extinction-level comet crisis films DEEP IMPACT and the macho cheese of Michael Bay's ARMAGEDDON. So for episode #98 I thought I'd talk about the wave of undersea creature features of 1989 which included DEEPSTAR SIX, LEVIATHAN, THE ABYSS and LORDS OF THE DEEP. Plus the new book by R.G. Henning about FRIDAY THE 13th Part 3, Blue Öyster Cult's new release 'Ghost Stories', the Texas Frightmare Weekend countdown watch list and more. Following 1968's NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, George A. Romero directed a pair of non-horror films (THE AFFAIR and SEASON OF THE WITCH) that have either eluded or underwhelmed longtime fans who preferred the darker and gruesome later work he is most known for. But in 1973 George Romero completed THE CRAZIES, a film steeped in chaos and fear. THE CRAZIES tells a story of contagion in a small community, the effect it has on the townspeople as it spreads and the struggle against military forces who try to contain and eradicate the threat. One of Romero's early "dark horse" films! Also a discussion of the 2010 remake of TEH CRAZIES, and a remembrance of DAWN OF THE DEAD's David Emge. KNIGHTRIDERS was not only one of George A. Romero's rare non-horror films, and one of his personal favorites of his own films, but it has a lot to offer fans of Romero classics like MARTIN, DAWN OF THE DEAD, CREEPSHOW and DAY OF THE DEAD. With the involvement of actors and collaborators spanning NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD in 1968 to LAND OF THE DEAD in 2005, the collective talent behind KNIGHTRIDERS is a bridge of sorts between all of Romero’s films - a mix of where George Romero had been, and where he was going. Episode #94 of My Haunted Head takes a look at one of Romero's most ambitious, and underappreciated, films. Plus news about a new book by PHANTASM director Don Coscarelli, and Joe Lynch's new film SUITABLE FLESH starring Barbara Crampton. Whether it was one of his many appearances on television, or one of the many genre films he did in the late 70's and early 80's, Christopher George left an indelible mark in television and film. In much the same way that actor Robert Forster brought a believable everyman quality to a variety of roles, Christopher George was able to slip comfortably from drama to action and horror in a way that made him relatable, and the material believable. He was a rugged, handsome, charismatic actor who elevated every project he appeared in. He should be held in the same regard as actors like Roy Scheider, Robert Forster and Lance Henriksen. Though his body of work included war films, comedies, sci-fi and action, for episode #93 we will focus on the prison drama, nature-run-amok, vigilante justice, zombie apocalypse, classic slasher, ninja and occult films he did from 1973-1983. Whether you're new to his work, or a long-time admirer, please join My Haunted Head in a celebration of the films of Christopher George.
