Do you love movies? Especially superhero movies? Then you've come to the right place! Each episode we talk about a different movie, with every other episode being a superhero movie (usually). Beware we will spoil the movie, so be sure to watch it before listening to the episode. Thanks for being here and we hope you enjoy our show!

We're back with another Top 10! This time it's our Top 10 Favorite Opening Scenes of all time. The beginning of a movie is critical. You want to hook your audience and leave them wanting more and these films do just that. They set the tone, introduce the characters and reveal their worlds to us in such a way that it left a lasting impact. Exactly what movie openings should do. Here's another case of a sequel no one asked for. No one except Warner Bros. Studios, that is. The movie studio, understandably, wanted another one. The previous movies were huge money makers but the Wachowskis weren't interested. WB said "We're doing it with or without you." And here we are. Was this the movie the studio was expecting? Was it the movie we were expecting? And more importantly, does the film stand up compared to the previous three? John Constantine gets his first solo animated film after appearing in Justice League Dark. When an old friend approaches him about saving his daughter, Constantine must confront past sins in order to defeat the forces behind the girl's condition. Partly an origin story, this movie dives into who Constantine is as a person but also as a supernatural detective. After many years (The Flash TV show premiered and ended between when this movie was announced and when it was released), we finally got to see The Flash in his first solo movie. Reprising his role from Justice League, Ezra Miller plays Barry Allen who is frustrated after another attempt to help his wrongly imprisoned father fails. Realizing he can run fast enough to travel back in time (farther than he did (or thought possible) in Zack Snyder's Justice League), he plans to go back and save both his parents, despite a warning from Bruce Wayne that he could "destroy everything." Loosely based on the Flashpoint comic, which is a strange story to adapt for his first solo film, The Flash finds himself in a world he doesn't recognize and must figure out a way to set things right again. Who is the best casting choice for a comic book character? That's the question we ask today (thanks to listener Simon!) for our newest Top 10 episode. Joining us is our friend and frequent collaborator Alex Thomas as we discuss actors who were born to play their role, who defined the character on screen, and who surprised us but now we can't see anyone else playing the character. The Alien franchise is back with its newest installment from director Fede Alvarez (Evil Dead, Don't Breathe). Taking place between Alien and Aliens, Alien: Romulus finds a group of young adults attempting to board a decommissioned Weyland-Yutani ship in order to steal the cryo-chambers needed to flee their planet and make the nine year voyage to their new home. Things do not go as planned, obviously and they soon find themselves face to face with face huggers. We all know what comes next. Does the newest addition take a top spot among the best Alien films or does it fall flat with some of the more forgetful entries? The turtles are back for their first ever feature length animated adventure! The gang's all here except for Shredder (and it turns out there's a reason for that!) but all is not right amongst the turtles. Add to that, there's a guy trying to open a portal to another dimension! Sounds like trouble. It also sounds like the makings of a hit Turtles movie! Do I smell pizza? We're continuing through The Matrix franchise with part 3: The Matrix Revolutions. When The Matrix Reloaded ended, Neo was in a coma after using some reality-warping powers in the real world! Revolutions is often considered the worst of the trilogy and some people consider the sequels so bad that they ruin everything good about the first movie, but is it really that bad? He's back! No, not Deadpool, although he is back, too. Hugh Jackman is back as Wolverine! We thought it was over with Logan, but no! He's come back to play the grumpy, adamantium-clawed X-Man once again! This movie has a bunch of cameos, Deadpool and Wolverine fighting a bunch, but does it have anything of substance? In this film, Batman is faced with a new adversary, someone with a link to his past, who goes by the name of Hush. As we get ready for Deadpool & Wolverine, we are covering the 2nd movie in the franchise which introduces Cable and Domino to the big screen! Ryan Reynolds dons the red suit again and brings his snarky wit against a time traveling half-machine trying to kill a kid who will be responsible for a lot of death and destruction in the future! If you've ever read a Hellblazer comic, you know John Constantine is a British blonde guy who always wears a tan trench coat. So why not get rid of the trench coat and cast Keanu Reeves? Hey, why not? Originally titled Hellblazer, they changed it to Constantine to avoid confusion with Hellboy, which was released a year earlier. Keanu Reeves actually does a great job as John Constantine but how does the restt of the movie hold up? Check out what the guys think and let us know what you think of Constantine!

It's time to continue/finish another favorite franchise: the Alien franchise! Released in 1992, Alien³ was the directorial debut of David Fincher who would go on to direct some pretty amazing movies like Se7en, Fight Club, Zodiac and The Social Network. Picking up where Aliens left off, Alien³ does something pretty bold right out of the gate. Some disagree with the decision, which casts a heavy shadow over the rest of the film. What do you think? Wrapping another live-action franchise, the guys discuss the third Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This film follows the turtles back to 17th century Japan and... that's about it. We are finishing the Transformers franchise with the last live-action movie: Rise of the Beasts. After six movies, we're finally introduced to the Maximals from the Beasts Wars TV series, but does the film do a good job of adapting their story? Does the timeline make sense? The first focuses on the fight against Doomsday (this time with help from the Justice League) and the second... well, we'll have to wait and see! It's time to wrap up the live-action Superman films (unless you count Superman and the Mole Men. Should we do Superman and the Mole Men??) with the 2006 film Superman Returns. Aptly titled, this film brought the Man of Steel back to the big screen after nearly 20 years. Critics seemed to like it but it was met with mixed reactions from moviegoers, which resulted in stalling Superman's movie career again for another seven years. What went right? What went wrong? Continuing with the Transformers franchise, the guys dive into the prequel/reboot starring everyone's favorite loveable mute Transformer, Bumblebee! Following on the heels of the disastrously bad Transformers: The Last Knight, Bumblebee reinvigorated the franchise by focusing on less Transformers and making the whole thing a bit more small scale (Chicago doesn't get destroyed again!). With a new cast and new, more classic, designs for the Transformers (and a new director), Bumblebee made Transformers fans happy, but is it truly the best Transformers film? Next up in the animated New 52 movies is Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay! An R-rated, ultra-violent, road trip movie with some of the world's deadliest bad guys doing Amanda Waller's dirty work. Deadshot, Bronze Tiger, Coppherhead, Captain Boomerang, Killer Frost and Harley Quinn are hunting down a mysterious "Get Out of Hell Free" card, but can they find it before a few other notorious bad guys get to it first? The fourth and final Christopher Reeve Superman movie finds him battling nuclear weapons and Nuclear Man! Gene Hackman returns for the movie that killed the Superman franchise for nearly twenty years. Even with Christopher Reeve himself contributing to the story, the presence of Jon Cryer and Mariel Hemingway, the movie suffers from an inconsistent tone and crazy plot choices. We are wrapping up The Mummy franchise with the third installment: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor! Released only 9 years after the original, but taking place 20 years later, this film takes the O’Connells to China where Alex has awakened the Dragon Emperor and his terracotta army. Missing from the cast is Rachel Weisz (replaced by Maria Bello) and Rob Cohen replaces Stephen Sommers in the director’s chair. Continuing the New 52 Animated series of movies, Stew and Justin discuss Teen Titans: The Judas Contract, which sees Terra as a newcomer to the team, voiced by Christina Ricci. With Terra's help, they are faced with an enemy known as Brother Blood, who has hired an old adversary of the team: Deathstroke (this time voiced by the late Miguel Ferrer!). Terra has a secret, though. One that could cost the team dearly! How does this film rank among the other animated films? Episode 200! It's amazing how quickly we got here when it took us so long to get to episode 100. And since episode 100 was The Dark Knight, it only seemed fitting to do the final film of Christopher Nolan's Batman Trilogy: The Dark Knight Rises (100 episodes in between part 2 and 3 is ridiculous, we know, and part of the reason why we've started doing franchise movies back-to-back). After the untimely demise of Heath Ledger, Christopher Nolan and his brother Jonathan had to re-work their original idea for a third film. Instead of The Joker, this film introduces us to Bane as our main bad guy and also brings Selena Kyle, AKA Catwoman, to the franchise! Often considered the weakest of the trilogy, check out what the guys think of this film and let us know what you think of The Dark Knight Rises!

Justin and Stew's most anticipated movie of 2024 (and 2023!) is upon us. The follow-up to the critically acclaimed Dune. Once again directed by Denis Villeneuve, Dune: Part Two picks up right where the first movie ended and completes the story originally told by Frank Herbert. Here it is. The long-awaited R rated Wolverine film. Justin and Stew have been waiting to talk about this movie and brought along Alex for the ride. James Mangold follows up The Wolverine with his take on Old Man Logan. Mutants are practically extinct, Professor X has been having psychic seizures in his old age, and Logan finds himself caught between a shady organization and the little girl they seem to be hunting! This was originally going to be Hugh Jackman's swan song for the character, and when viewing the film in that way, how do you think they did?

Stew and Justin are big Zack Snyder fans and were eagerly anticipating the release of his new movie, Rebel Moon! Delayed due to the Covid pandemic, Shang-Chi was pushed back from its original release date in 2020 to 2021. Marvel's first superhero of Asian descent was met with critical praise (and audiences loved it, too) and ushered in Phase Four (although technically Phase Four started with WandaVision, Black Widow was the first feature film but since it's a prequel...). Before The Incredibles and Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, Brad Bird directed the much beloved The Iron Giant. Set in 1957, just after the Sputnik satellite was launched, young Hogarth Hughes finds and befriends a giant robot man. Trying to keep a giant robot a secret is no small order, especially when a government agent comes knocking. The Iron Giant has developed a cult status and the guys discuss whether or not it holds up. In 2004, director Brad Bird introduced us to the superhero family The Incredibles. Pixar's sixth film was an action movie blast! Featuring the voices of Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, Samuel L. Jackson and Jason Lee, The Incredibles is set in a world where superheroes have gone underground. Itching to get back in the fight, Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson) takes on a job from a mysterious woman that leads him to a mysterious foe from his past.

The podcast is officially ten years old. Can you believe it?? And sure, we may have missed, um, a year (or two) here and there, but still! John and Justin's first episode was Man of Steel released on July 19, 2013. So we thought it would be fun to revisit the film that started it all. And to top it off, John was able to join us for this episode! We had a blast recording this one and we hope you all enjoy it. After the abysmal X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the next solo Wolverine takes a step in the right direction. With director James Mangold (Logan, Ford vs Ferrari) at the helm, this film follows Logan to Japan, which is something the fans had been longing to see. Released just prior to The Dark Knight, Batman: Gotham Knight was advertised as a bridge connecting the new movie to Batman Begins. At a brisk 74 minutes, this film is actually six short films strung together with different animation styles, writers and directors. It's an interesting installment of the DC animated lineup. Oh, did I mention Kevin Conroy voices Batman? That's reason enough to watch it!

Directed this time by Justin Lin (director of four of the Fast & Furious films) and co-written by Simon Pegg, this film finds the Enterprise crew stranded on an alien planet with an antagonist full of secrets. With a little help from Jaylah (Sofia Boutella) and the Beastie Boys, will Kirk and crew be able to get themselves off the planet and save the universe??

Damian is sent to work with the Titans, something that he feels is beneath him. Meanwhile the League gets possessed by Trigon, who happens to be Raven's Dad. It's up to the Titans to save the day!

We've finally gotten around to reviewing the second movie of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Better late than never, right? Released in 2008, The Incredible Hulk was released shortly after Iron Man and was moderately succesful. Starring Edward Norton as Bruce Banner (who would later be replaced by Mark Ruffalo), this is the only solo Incredible Hulk film in the MCU as of 2023.

In Marvel's Phase Three, a few new characters were introduced including Doctor Stephen Strange, the Sorcerer Supreme. To mainstream audiences, he was a fairly unknown character, similar to the Guardians of the Galaxy, which was a huge hit. Doctor Strange was released in November of 2016 and looked like a superhero version of Inception or The Matrix. Despite a little controversy over the casting of Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One, what we got was a solid entry in the MCU and a great introduction to Stephen Strange.

I suppose it's a bit of a stretch to say Chronicle is a "superhero movie" but it's definitely inspired by comic books and superheroes. Josh Trank's film focuses on three teenagers who are given superpowers and how they each respond to their "great power." It's a found footage movie, which works for the most part, but can be distracting at times (as far as found footage movies go, this one is near the top of the list though). It's a short, tight film that asks some big questions. What do you think of Chronicle?

Based on the iconic graphic novel by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli, Bryan Cranston plays Commissioner Gordon and Ben McKenzie is The Dark Knight in his first year of crime fighting as the Caped Crusader. Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer took a lot of inspiration from the graphic novel for Batman Begins and you can definitely see it when watching this movie. In 2007, Michael Bay delivered the long awaited live-action Transformers movie. Differing from the TV show and animated movie, this film is centered around a human teenager buying his first car and trying to hit on the hot, popular girl in school. He just also happens to be the descendant of an explorer who stumbled upon the frozen remains of Megatron. The map to the All-Spark (the cube that gives Autobots and Decepticons life) was imprinted on the explorer's glasses, which the teenage boy now possesses. So the Decepticons are after him and the Autobots must protect him (and the All-Spark). Do fans of Transformers like this movie? What about just regular movie fans? Probably most famous for being the last film of Brandon Lee, son of Bruce Lee, The Crow is a dark tale of vengeance directed by Alex Proyas. Despite Lee's on-set death, the film was finished and released and is considered by some to be a brilliant comic adaptation. It was received well by critics and audiences alike with most reviews praising Lee's performance. So how does the film hold up nearly 30 years later? Universal Studios decided it wasn't done with Isla Nublar or Jurassic Park and hired director Colin Trevorrow to helm the franchise's fourth film. In 2010, about ten years into the Superhero movie boom, director Matthew Vaughn delivered Kick-Ass: a comedy, action movie that simultaneously spoofs the superhero genre while also belonging to it. It's an R-rated, violent film but has plenty of laughs. Aaron Johnson is the titular Kick-Ass, a teenager who wonders why no one has ever tried being a superhero. So he decides to do it himself and gets in over his head. Chloe Grace Moretz is Hit-Girl and Nicolas Cage is her father Big Daddy, two vigilantes/superheroes who come out of the woodwork shortly after Kick-Ass does. How does it hold up? One of the earliest DC animated films adapted the "Public Enemies" storyline written by Jeph Loeb and drawn by Ed McGuinness. Featuring the voice talents of Kevin Conroy, Tim Daly and Clancy Brown, it's almost like a Batman/Superman The Animated Series reunion, except the animation resembles Ed McGuinness's style more so than the classic Bruce Timm style (which I appreciate. Tom Hardy was cast as Eddie Brock, which brought even more anticipation from fans, and Michelle Williams was cast, perhaps adding a little gravitas to the picture. In 2009, Paramount Pictures and J.J. Abrams brought Star Trek back to the big screen and attempted to bring in a new audience for the franchise. It made over $385 million (worldwide) at the box office so I'd say it was a success! The film tells the origin story of Kirk, Spock, Bones and crew, while at the same time, creating a new timeline for these characters to exist. It's certainly not the highlight of Hugh Jackman's long career as playing Wolverine but what do John and Stew think about it? Part man. Part machine. All cop. 1987 brought us the first RoboCop film, introducing us to Murphy (Peter Weller) as he joins the Detroit police force, which is now owned by Omni Consumer Products. Crime is rampant in Detroit and there's a cop killer named Clarence Boddicker (Kurtwood Smith) on the loose. Long story short: Boddicker kills Murphy and he's transformed by OCP into RoboCop! And the world would never be the same! RoboCop was iconic, spawning two sequels, an animated series, a live-action series, a remake and a couple of video games. What do the guys think of RoboCop? In 2018 James Wan (Saw, The Conjuring) managed to do the impossible and bring us a live action Aquaman! (The TV show Entourage depicted its main character as Arthur Curry in a fictional film directed by James Cameron but Vincent Chase never donned a costume. And there was a failed pilot starring Justin Hartley from the creators of Smallville) For a long time the character was viewed as a bit lame, and one of the weaker members of the Justice League but after being introduced in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and again in Justice League in 2017, he was given his first solo film. I think a lot of opinions changed on the Protector of the Deep after these movies and no longer consider him the laughing stock of the DC universe. What do you think of Aquaman! Released in 1998, this straight-to-video movie feels more like an extended episode of Batman: The Animated Series, and that ain't a bad thing! If only the live action Batman & Robin could have had a Mr. Freeze like the one in this movie! Featuring Robin and Batgirl along with some newly introduced characters (as well as Mr. Freeze's polar bears!), Batman & Mr. Freeze: Subzero was the last movie to feature the BTAS style of animation. Kevin Conroy would, of course, continue to voice the character for years to come but sadly, this character design and style ended with this film. Following the success of the animated TV series, Batman: Mask of the Phantasm was meant to be a direct-to-video movie until Warner Bros. decided to release it theatrically. They believed in the film and thought it could be a big success. It opened on Christmas Day in 1993 at #11 and went on to make over $5.6 million dollars. According to Wikipedia, that was considered a failure at the box office but became a success in the home media market. Ironic. Three years after the release of Raiders of the Lost Ark, Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and Harrison Ford return for Indiana Jones's next adventure (Although, technically this takes place before Raiders)! A darker film than Raiders, Indy is tasked with finding a magical stone that has been stolen from a small village (along with all the children of the village). Accompanying him this time are Short Round, played by Ke Huy Quan, and Willie, played by Kate Capshaw. There's bugs (and snakes, of course), chilled monkey brains, brain washing and human sacrifices! After a seven year wait, we finally got another, serious Batman movie. Gone were the campy, toy-sales driven, bat-nipple filled Batman movies. The fans wanted Batman taken seriously and director Christopher Nolan delivered the goods. Set in a much more realistic universe, Nolan gave us a Batman origin story, which was something we'd yet to see. It was a fantastic direction for not just Batman but comic book movies in general. As Bruce Wayne discovers how to be Batman, the movie sets up Scarecrow and Ra's al Ghul as his first adversaries. How does it hold up and what do the guys think of it?
