You asked for a meal plan. Your dietitian said no. Here's why that was actually the right call.
In this episode of Case Specific Nutrition, registered dietitians Laura and Andrew dig into the questions and conversations that keep coming up in their practices -- and on your feed.
This Episode: why handing someone a meal plan without teaching them the basics of food, cooking, and building a balanced plate is setting them up to fail. Meal planning works -- but only when you understand the foundation underneath it.
Then we're tackling seed oils. The fear is real, the science is nuanced, and the algorithm is not helping. We break down why so many people may feel better when they eliminate seed oils and why the improvement is real but the attribution is often wrong. We also get into why "natural" fats like butter and tallow feel safer, and how social media incentivizes fear over facts every single time.
Plus, we're addressing the postpartum "bounce back" narrative head-on. The pressure to return to your pre-pregnancy body ignores hormonal shifts, mental load, life stage, and the very real evolution your body has gone through. We're not here for it.
The number one predictor of your success has nothing to do with the perfect meal plan or the right cooking oil. It has everything to do with one habit. We're screaming it from the rooftops this episode.
If you're tired of nutrition noise and ready for something that actually sticks, this one's for you.

The 2025–2026 Dietary Guidelines for Americans are here. Are these changes enough to shift our health or are they just words on a page? In this episode, we break down the new DGAs, what's actually changing, and why it matters for your nutrition, metabolism, and long-term health.
This episode isn't just a review of "eat this, not that." We explore why one-size-fits-all nutrition doesn't work, how the guidelines aim to drive federal programs and educational efforts, and what this means for real-world, case-specific nutrition care.
If you want to understand what the new dietary guidelines really mean, how to navigate them for your health, and what still needs to change in our food system, this episode is for you.

Are you really getting enough protein as an athlete, or are social media food rules steering you wrong? In this episode, we break down one of the most commonly asked questions in nutrition and explain what protein needs actually look like for athletes in real life.
We react to viral nutrition content that shocks people, like recommending Rice Krispy treats for athletes, and explain why sugar is not the enemy when it comes to fueling performance. We dive into purposeful snacking, ingredient obsession, and how carbohydrate sources support training, recovery, and consistency for athletes.
You will also hear our unfiltered take on the word "healthy" and why labeling foods as good or bad often hurts athlete performance more than it helps. If you are an athlete confused about protein intake, sugar, snacks, or what "healthy eating" even means anymore, this episode is your reset.
This conversation is for athletes who want better performance without burnout, food guilt, or chasing perfection. Expect nuance, science, and practical takeaways you can actually use.

CGMs and GLP-1s are everywhere right now, but should everyone be using them? In this episode, Andrew Wade, registered dietitian and CEO of Case Specific Nutrition, is joined by Brad and Hillary, both registered dietitians and lead clinicians at their own offices, to break down the most common question they hear in practice: should non-diabetics get a CGM to improve their health?
Together, they explore how to interpret CGM data, the risks of chasing numbers without context, and what happens when "optimization" replaces foundational health behaviors. The conversation also covers the growing role of GLP-1 medications, recent updates around accessibility and pricing, and why cost reductions can be both a promising step forward and a potential risk depending on how these medications are used.
Brad and Hillary react to the explosion of GLP-1 content on social media, including patches, supplements, and "natural" protocols, and unpack ingredient obsessions like probiotics and Akkermansia. Through real client stories, they challenge weight loss expectations, highlight why eating more, building muscle, and fueling adequately can sometimes drive better results, and reinforce a core message from clinical practice: GLP-1s without lifestyle change are not the shortcut people hope they will be.

👉 If you have ever felt like your holiday eating patterns are "wrong," this episode is for you. In this episode, we walk through what real eating disorder recovery looks like over time and why progress is rarely linear.
We share a powerful client story that highlights long-term healing, patience, and what it means to experience true change after decades of disordered eating behaviors.
We also dive into seasonal eating patterns and movement changes. From more candy around Halloween to more cookies during the holidays and more movement in the summer, we explain why eating more or moving less at certain times of year is not a setback.
Finally, we zoom out to the bigger picture. We discuss the serious gaps in nutrition care, especially within eating disorder treatment.

In this episode we break down eating disorder vs disordered eating in a way that helps you understand the disordered eating spectrum. We use real examples and common social media trends to show how disordered eating often hides in "normal" habits.
We also clear up the biggest nutrition myths that fuel disordered eating, including ingredient obsession, sugar fear, macro confusion, and the belief that fat makes you fat. You will learn why all edible food breaks down into the same three macronutrients, what your body actually recognizes, and how simplifying nutrition can transform your relationship with food.
Finally, we react to viral social media claims like fasting rules, feasting culture, food porn, and the question, "Do I really need to feel full at every meal?" If you want a grounded, science-backed conversation about eating disorder reality, disordered eating habits, and the nutrition truths lost in online noise, this episode is for you.

From gym myths to government policy—this week, Laura and Andrew tackle it all. 💪
We kick things off with one of the most common supplement questions: Should I be taking creatine? We break down how it works in your brain and muscles, whether you actually need it, and what the research says about dosage, hydration, and even sleep deprivation recovery.
Then, we dive into the growing obsession with ingredient-scanning apps like Yuka and Olive. Are they truly helping people make better food choices—or just fueling more food anxiety?
Next, Laura shares an incredible client story that reveals the emotional side of food, bingeing, and finding safety in eating. Plus, we end with a Scream from the Rooftops moment about what it really means to have a healthy relationship with food—because it's so much more than macros.
Finally, we wrap up with the latest updates from Make America Healthy Again (MAHA)—and why dietitians must have a seat at the policy table if we want lasting change in how Americans eat and live.

So misunderstood. Regardless of your dietary preferences or decisions, it is imperative to understand the nutrients in our food. Carbohydrates are heavily generalized and lumped together, in a way that proves they are misunderstood. "Someone I know lost 30lbs in a month, so I want to do that".
What is with our obsession with rate of weight loss? We act as if the faster it comes off the more impressive it is. Or if we "get it over with" it will somehow be easier.
But isn't being a lighter version of yourself a result of living like a different version of yourself? So to be that person, you likely need to be there for good. Why then, would intense bursts of unsustainable habits be the desired route?
Weight loss is a side effect of lifestyle habits, and sustained weight loss is a result of finding enjoyment and passion from your new lifestyle habits.

In this episode we use some analogies to investigate the pass/fail mindset, as well as tools to use to inspire success.
Thoughts like this are further reinforced through reading in books such as "The Compound Effect" by Darren Hardy and in "The Power of Habit" by Charles Duhigg.

The holidays are done and now it's time to break out the detox tea and the portioned containers. After weeks of indulgence, the only logical conclusion is an equally polarizing month of "punishment". After all, the holidays were meant to be dreaded and guilt ridden right?
Let's skip all the BS above, and change the mindset on health, holidays and definitely what January 1st represents.

Body Fat is very misunderstood. Our culture and it's dichotomous thinking always seems to label things as good or bad. Body fat is yet another topic that looks less like a vote and more like a bell curve.
Great resource noted in this podcast is "The Secret Life of Fat" By Silvia, Tara, available on Amazon: https://amzn.to/2LXhL1O

Dichotomous thinking runs rampant in the United States. "This or That", forces good and bad, right and wrong, passing and failing. Food is not that simple. The dichotomy of healthy and unhealthy leads to useless feelings of guilt and fear all while distracting us from our true goals. #lonelyfoods #spreadthehealth #lifehack

In this episode we dig into the documentary recently aired on Netflix called "The Game Changers". We work through the misleading information and stance, dig into the flaws in their "report" of research, and discuss relevant information and take home messages.
*NOTE: At the end I briefly discuss Cholesterol and it's role in the body. To simplify I use it interchangeably as fat in a couple sentences. For more information on what I discussed, download "Good Calories, Bad Calories" by Gary Taubes, which offers citations of the research supporting my comments. Additionally, for more details on what Cholesterol is, Medline offers a simply but effective overview at https://medlineplus.gov/cholesterol.html.
