In this episode of Rebuilding My Health Radio, I’m bringing you one of the most important interviews and stories I’ve ever had the honor of capturing.
In the episode, I interview Francis McNear, or Frank, who was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s 12 years ago, at the age of 62. The average life expectancy for someone diagnosed is typically about a decade and it’s a frightening decline.
And yet… 12 years after his diagnosis, Frank and I had an intelligent conversation about his journey back from Alzheimer's. Frank went on to write his story and title the book, Defeating Dementia.
That would not have been possible if he had not overhead a conversation years ago – while having lunch – about a promising approach to cognitive decline that was uncovered by the neurologist Dr. Dale Bredesen. At the time, 9 out of 10 of the participants in a small study had seen improvements in their dementia.
Now, hundreds are finding help with a precision medicine approach.
This is compared to over 400 failed clinical trials for Alzheimer’s drugs.
In our conversation, Frank candidly shares…
He’s living a vibrant life and has written several books since his diagnosis. And he’s thrilled to have become a grandfather for the first time and able to really enjoy his granddaughter.
My hope is that Frank’s story gives you hope and inspiration and a new understanding of what’s possible. Frank is by no means the only one experiencing life-changing results with a precision medicine approach to dementia.

What are the symptoms of mold toxicity and how do you detox your body and home?
Today I’m bringing you an information-packed episode on mold toxicity and mast cell activation syndrome.
Like many, my guest today spent years struggling with her health before linking her many symptoms to mold exposure.
For Cara Hoepner, the symptoms associated with mold exposure included cardiac arrhythmia, dizziness, rage, suicidal thoughts, chronic kidney disease, constipation, sleeplessness and more.
Cara has been through years of resolving mold in her body and home spaces and is sharing her hard-earned insights on navigating it on multiple fronts.
In our conversation, you’ll hear…
· The impact of mold on her health

· How she detoxed from mold toxicity and recovered from what’s called mast-cell activation syndrome, which was triggered by mold exposure
· Her recommendations for mold testing, inspections, and remediation
· Her do’s and don’ts when confronting mold
· Mold resources
Mast cell activation syndrome, or MCAS, is when chemicals called mast cell mediators are released too frequently or abundantly, and in response to triggers that are not typically considered to be harmful, such as foods. This can lead to a wide range of symptoms.

What does an integrative approach to cancer look like? Jenn shares the physical, mental, and spiritual steps she took to heal.
In 2015, Jenn was diagnosed with breast cancer – and by that point, it had already metastasized to multiple parts of her body. Her lymph nodes were the size of golf balls.
It’s a terrifying diagnosis for anyone, but all the more so as she thought of her four small children.
Jenn lived near excellent cancer treatment centers and got multiple opinions – all pointing her to the standard of care for this type of diagnosis: surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy.
Despite it all, her intuition strongly told her that wasn’t the right path for her. She ultimately decided to proceed with holistic approaches and only the minimal amount of surgery necessary.
And in time, Jenn cleared her body of cancer and is living a vibrant life today.
In our conversation, you’ll hear…
Jennifer Payeur is a passionate advocate for the healing power of nature. After experiencing a life-threatening health issue, she left a 29-year career as an executive in Financial Services. She embarked on a journey of self-discovery, reconnecting with the inherent healing properties of plants.
In 2019, she founded Nature Provides, an innovative plant stem cell company. Her mission is to educate and empower others on how these unique plant remedies detoxify, strengthen and rejuvenate the cells in the body, bringing vibrant health to the individual.
No matter what health challenges you might be facing, there’s rich wisdom in Jenn’s story. So much of it is about tuning in to intuition and slowing down.

What are the symptoms of mold illness and how do you clear your body and home from mold?
My guest, Dr. Emily Kiberd, shares her story of recovering from mold illness symptoms and navigating more than a dozen moldy homes.
A chiropractor, Dr. Emily Kiberd never expected to add “mold specialist” to her list of qualifications.
But then, she also never expected to find herself in at least seven moldy homes over the past 14 years, from New York City to Colorado.
Across the years, she’s repeatedly seen mold-related symptoms arise in herself and her family. Each time, she’s had to take a multi-pronged approach to detox her body and either leave her home or remediate.
Emily shared her journey and what she’s learned along the way about recovery, inspection, remediation, and more.
In our conversation, you'll hear about…
About Dr. Emily Kiberd
Dr Emily Kiberd is a chiropractor of 16 years, mama to Elvis and Brooklyn, and founder of Thyroid Strong, the only doctor-designed strength program for the Hashi ladies to work out without burnout. Thyroid Strong marries the functional movement workouts with functional medicine to heal Hashimoto’s symptoms.
She put her own Hashimoto’s into remission with dietary changes, refinement in her exercise routine, and lifestyle changes, including addressing underlying environmental toxins.
She’s recovered from mold exposure numerous times and shares the good, the bad, and the ugly when it comes to mold detox, mold inspection, and remediation. She now helps her clients living with Hashimoto’s do the same to get rid of their brain fog and finally thrive.

The dietary changes that became a cornerstone of Agota's wellness plan and dramatically improved her MS symptoms.
The game-changing steps she took to minimize her MS symptoms.
The transformative power of a positive mindset and how Agota cultivated resilience.
The importance of listening to your body and responding accordingly.
How Agota's inspiring journey led her to write a book and become a beacon of hope for those seeking to take control of their health and well-being.
About Agota Nawroth
Agota Nawroth is a devoted mother, a certified health coach, and someone who has faced the unique challenges of living with multiple sclerosis (MS). She is also the author and publisher of the enlightening book “Beating Multiple Sclerosis,” which not only shares her own journey but also chronicles the stories of dozens of others who are conquering this disease. She is the founder of www.BeatingMultipleSclerosis.com, an online community committed to healing. You can find her on Instagram and YouTube at @BeatingMyMS.
Agota's MS Journey: A Life-Changing Diagnosis
Agota's journey with MS began in March 2019, a life-altering moment that turned her world upside down. “I was diagnosed in 2019, and now, looking back, I feel like I'm a different person,” she says. “So many things have changed in my life, and I think I can say the same for anyone diagnosed with a disease like multiple sclerosis."
In those early days, she turned to Instagram as a way to document her journey, share her experiences, and find hope. Her platform, now known as "Beating My MS," quickly evolved into a source of inspiration and education for others battling MS.
A Life Unraveled: The Sudden Onset of MS
Agota's MS diagnosis came seemingly out of the blue. She had recently returned from her honeymoon and was eagerly preparing to start a family. Her initial symptoms were anxiety and unexplained depression, making it difficult to identify the impending storm. It wasn't long before she experienced numbness in her forehead and hearing loss in her left ear.
At first, Agota attributed these symptoms to various factors such as altitude or the recent plane ride after a trip to Colorado.
Her search led her through various doctors, including an ear specialist who couldn't find any definitive answers. Concerned that her symptoms could be connected to her brain, she asked for an MRI.
When the MRI results came in, Agota received a call urging her to see a neurologist immediately, as she might have multiple sclerosis.
Agota's initial reaction was to turn to the internet, where she encountered a flood of information, some of which painted a grim picture of disability.
She confided, "I don't know, I just felt like my life was collapsing. That day, I couldn't stop crying."
A Determined Approach: Transforming Mindset and Lifestyle
In the face of this daunting diagnosis, Agota decided to take matters into her own hands. As she learned more about MS, she discovered that diet and lifestyle play pivotal roles in managing the condition.
She decided to start her journey to wellness by changing her diet and quickly realized the connection between her diet and her MS symptoms.
She noted, "I was feeling better once I started eating better. Every time I was eating pizza or gluten, like anything that contains gluten, I was feeling face numbness. So those were signs that I was listening to."
Initially, she began with dietary changes, eliminating gluten, dairy, refined sugar, and other potentially inflammatory foods. She focused on incorporating more fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins into her daily meals. This shift in her diet brought noticeable improvements in her health.
Beyond diet changes, she explored meditation as a means of reducing stress and promoting mental well-being. She admitted that, at first, meditation was a struggle, but she persevered, and it has now become a daily practice that brings peace and clarity to her life.
Agota also made the transition from intense workouts to gentler forms of exercise, such as yoga and walking, which were kinder to her body and helped her stay active while managing her condition.
Sharing the Journey: Building a Supportive Community
As Agota implemented these lifestyle changes and embraced a proactive mindset, she felt compelled to share her journey with others who were going through similar challenges.
On Instagram, where she inspires tens of thousands of others with MS, Agota's posts are filled with inspiring interviews and insights. Over time, Agota's platform has grown into a beacon of hope, proving that lifestyle changes and a resilient mindset can significantly improve the quality of life for those with MS.
Recently, Agota published a collection of inspiring MS success stories in Beating Multiple Sclerosis. It serves as a valuable resource and source of inspiring for those with MS and other chronic health conditions.
Agota's remarkable transformation through lifestyle changes and an unwavering positive mindset is a testament to the potential within us all.

Today I’m bringing you an inspiring story from a woman who found her way out of a life-altering health setback.
Dr. Christine Smith saw her health unravel after a series of major life stressors. She threw everything she knew of at the problem. But ultimately, to heal, she found she had to go inward and reach a sense or feeling safe in her body.
In this episode, we discuss…
Dr. Christine Smith has focused her work on seeing the whole person through personalized, integrative healthcare and regularly works with other trusted providers to create holistic care plans. Her path has included many experiences outside the straight academic path, including working in different healthcare systems abroad, leading her to where she is today.
As a Functional Medicine Practitioner and Doctor of Chiropractic with a background in Cognitive Neuroscience, she specializes in Holistic Injury Recovery and Chronic Inflammation Prevention to help active people come back stronger, uncover hidden injuries and prevent re-injury. She does this by teaching clients how to use recovery time as a gift to restructure lifestyle priorities, to learn to speak the language of their body through education rather than medication, and heal beyond the scars.

If you have struggled with digestive challenges, skin issues, or anxiety, then you don’t want to miss today’s episode.
I'm talking with Nicole Lavery, who finally solved three decades of health struggles via a natural route. Today, she’s talking specifically about parasites, which are a very common cause of digestive symptoms and a host of other symptoms.
Nicole is a former ballerina turned writer and holistic wellness coach, based outside of Boulder, Colorado. After spending the better part of 3 decades battling IBS and a conventional health approach that left her without answers, she turned to functional medicine and Eastern methodologies – thus giving her the root cause answer she had been looking for: parasites. In addition to overcoming her gut challenges, Nicole also made the decision to have several preventive surgeries in 2021 and 2022 to offset her high risk (+45%) for breast and ovarian cancer, thus allowing her to take control of her health and related health anxiety that had dominated so much of her life previously. Hers is a story about digging in deeper to find answers, honing in on intuition, and leveraging a holistic approach in order to feel better - mind, body, and soul.
In this episode, we discuss…
You’ll take away fascinating insights on the role of parasites in Nicole’s journey and our overall health.
You can find Nicole online, on Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
Download Nicole’s free Parasites 101 Guide (use the password rebuildingmyhealth). It’s a brief yet comprehensive overview of how parasites might be at the root cause of your symptoms, along with helpful hints regarding cleansing and ongoing maintenance.

In this episode, I’m talking with Sally Aponte, who was finally on the road to recovery after diagnosing celiac disease. Celiac disease is an autoimmune condition where your body is not able to digest gluten, which is in so much of what we eat in the Western diet.
Sally began a gluten-free diet and then later, a keto diet, and felt better for a while. But then, she started having a fresh set of health challenges to unravel. She ultimately discovered the cause behind it and has gone on to become an expert in this area.
In this episode, we discuss…
· How Sally finally linked digestive symptoms, hair loss, weakness, and skin issues to celiac disease
· Why her symptoms and energy improved but then worsened again on a gluten-free diet and then a keto diet
· The cause behind joint pain and new skin issues: oxalate toxicity
· What oxalates are and some of the highest oxalate foods
· Why a daily green smoothie may not be the healthiest option for everyone
· The types of symptoms that might be linked to oxalate toxicity
· How oxalates can contribute to kidney stones
· The best type of testing for oxalate levels
· Why it’s important to detox from oxalates slowly
· And how oxalate buildup is not just about what you eat
Sally’s experience inspired her to pursue alternative healing methods, which led her to become a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner. Sally Aponte is both a Physical Therapist Assistant and an FDN coach. Her mission is to empower individuals who suffer from chronic digestive problems and oxalate toxicity by providing them with the right tools and lifestyle choices needed to live a healthy life, free from disease, and enjoy their golden years to the fullest.

Kristin Thomas is a Forbes-recognized top business coach with an inspiring health turnaround story. While she was working for fast-paced startups in her early 20s, lifelong gut issues became severe and led to an autoimmune diagnosis of ulcerative colitis, and inflammatory bowel disease.

Kristin Thomas is the founder of Health & Wellness Business School and is a top marketing & business mentor to many of the leading experts in the health and wellness field. Today I’m excited to bring you a unique episode with sister-brother due, Lori Balue and Mark Balue.
I featured Lori in episode 37 for her dramatic health transformation. Previously, she had asthma, allergies, polycystic ovarian syndrome, infertility, brain fog, prediabetes (also known as insulin resistance) along with depression and anxiety, and she had been on a lifelong struggle to lose weight.
Lori Balue ultimately went on to overhaul her health, primarily through lifestyle interventions. And now she’s aging adventurously and planning to celebrate her 60th birthday by hiking the Grand Canyon rim to rim – something she never could have done before. Her episode is my most popular, so check it out.
Well, her transformation was a powerful inspiration for her older brother, who was struggling with his own very significant health challenges. At the time, Mark had pancreatitis, type 2 diabetes, was on cholesterol and blood pressure medication, and was well over 300 lbs. When the doctor wanted him to add insulin, that was the wake-up call he needed.
Lori and Mark’s father had passed away in his 60s and so had another sister – and Mark felt he was on the same track.
There are so many valuable insights in this episode.
You’ll hear …
He has effectively put his diabetes into remission.
Mark Balue, 62, lives in Southern California. After returning from the Navy, he worked in Point Mugu, Antarctica, New Zealand, and Saudi Arabia for Lockheed before returning home and working the night shift for Lockheed, McDonald Douglas, and Boeing for 36 years in aircraft painting. A vacation with his family in 2020 made him realize that he wanted more out of life, leading him to reach out to his sister for help.
Lori’s personal experience inspired her to become a health coach. She’s an Adapt Certified Functional Health Coach and a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition® Practioner. She helps women in menopause use functional labs, lifestyle, and health adventures to lose weight, stop pain, and create an active lifestyle to age beautifully and adventurously.

In this episode, I’m talking with Jamie Travathan about the power of addressing nutritional deficiencies, particularly vitamin B12.
Jamie’s health story started as a child with digestive issues such as severe constipation and food sensitivities. In her 20s, she began having really irregular menstrual cycles. And oddly, it seemed like she was aging prematurely. Her hair was turning gray, she couldn’t think clearly and she lacked energy. At age 32, she could barely get out of bed.
After seeing at least 10 conventional doctors, she began looking elsewhere for answers. She ultimately found she had pernicious anemia, an autoimmune condition that is one of the causes of vitamin B12 deficiency. Left untreated, it can cause serious neurological issues.
In this episode, we discuss…
The gut dysbiosis Jamie found behind her digestive issues
What is pernicious anemia and the critical importance of vitamin B12
A vegetarian diet and pernicious anemia
How Jamie brought her B vitamin levels back up to healthy levels
The diet changes that helped Jamie heal her gut
The energetic, mental and physical causes of autoimmunity
The role of mindset in healing
And how the steps she took restored her gut, brain, energy and hormones
Jamie’s health journey inspired her to become a health coach. She’s a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner, a Certified Holistic Nutrition Consultant and an emotional Eating/Addiction Coach. With those credentials, she works as an Energetic, Mental and Physical Nutritionist + Mentor. Jamie helps her own clients one on one, and she mentors health and wellness practitioners who are seeking to transform their health by using a blend of science, nutrition, energy and archetypes. She uses a triad bio-individual approach to root cause healing that includes addressing our energetic, mental and physical health.
Jamie guides women who are experiencing gut pain, fuzzy brain and low energy to awaken their inner goddess and become fully confident in their bodies and soul’s wisdom.

In this episode, I’m talking with Dr. Farah Sultan, an MD who shares her personal health turnaround. In many ways, her story looks like what so many of us women experience: crushing fatigue, gut issues, weight gain, headaches, hair loss, skin issues, and more.
Her OB/GYN said her symptoms were normal after having a baby and being a stressed-out medical resident, but her intuition told her otherwise. And like so many people we’ve interviewed, she was told her conventional lab tests looked normal.
When she was able to get more extensive testing, she was ultimately diagnosed with Hashimoto’s and found underlying infections and food sensitivities.
In the episode, we discuss…
The foundational steps she took to feel better and get her thyroid antibodies back to normal
How eliminating triggering foods reduced her inflammation and symptoms
The infections she had to address
The importance of reducing her exposure to toxins, including her mercury dental fillings
Why it’s critical to take bioidentical hormones versus synthetic hormones for hormone replacement therapy
And her tips for optimizing sleep so your body can heal
Dr. Farah’s experience inspired her to change her approach to medicine. Dr Farah Sultan is a medical doctor, board certified in Family Medicine and Functional and Regenerative Medicine. She has trained and worked on three continents in India, the UK, and the US. She is the Founder of Vitalogy Wellness and Med-spa and the creator of the Mandala Method. She is an international award-winning speaker and expert in sleep and hormone balance and has helped thousands of women regain their sleep, energy, and youthfulness without the use of addictive prescription medications.

We’re kicking off the year with a powerful and inspiring interview. When Heather struggled with life-threatening mental health challenges at 15, absolutely no one suspected Lyme disease - despite her being bitten by a tick two years earlier.
That was accompanied by bodywide pain, overwhelming fatigue, brain fog and memory loss, and gut dysfunction.
It would take more than 20 years of struggle, including multiple suicide attempts, before Heather finally received a diagnosis of Lyme disease.
She went on to try multiple Lyme-targeted treatments, but those ultimately were not what allowed her heal.
In this episode, Heather shares her personal story of overcoming Lyme disease and rebuilding her health after going undiagnosed for 20+ years.
We cover some of the lesser-known but vital angles of Lyme, including…
Heather's journey inspired a career change. Today she's a Functional Diagnostic Nutritionist (FDN) Practitioner. After 27 years of undiagnosed Lyme disease, celiac disease, Hashimoto's, and endometriosis, she set out on a path to healing. She has now lost over 100lbs, her pain has lessened, she no longer has suicidal thoughts, and enjoys all-day energy. As The Lyme Boss, she now has a practice where she teaches others how to take care of themselves, get the inflammation off their body and brain, and gain control over their health journey. Find Heather at www.thelymeboss.com/, and on Instagram and Facebook.

If you are someone you know is struggling with hair loss, this episode will offer lots of insights.
Today I’m talking with Julie Olson about her personal natural health success story and particularly about women's hair loss.
Julie was working in her dream job in California when health challenges upended that. First, her mom was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. Then Julie hit her own health roadblocks, which included gut issues, fatigue and hair loss.
Her mother’s diagnosis and her own health crisis led her to study functional medicine nutrition and solutions that helped her as well as her mother. Julie uncovered the causes of her health challenges, which included celiac disease, Epstein-Barre virus, the gut bacteria H. pylori, thyroid issues and food sensitivities.
When she addressed these, she rebuilt her health and was able to regrow hair.
In my talk with Julie, you’ll hear…
Julie Olson is a triple-certified Functional Medicine Nutritionist. After struggling with hair loss, digestive issues, Epstein-Barr virus, and autoimmunity, doctors told her there was nothing she could do about it naturally. Unconvinced, Julie made it her mission to restore her own health and help people do the same with natural solutions to look and feel their very best. With over 10 years of experience, working with functional and integrative practitioners, Julie has transformed thousands of people’s health. She is known to investigate, discover, and communicate root cause resolutions to rebuild health and naturally regrow hair. Founder of Fortitude Functional Nutrition, she specializes in female hair loss, gut health, and gluten issues, plus offers personalized programs that yield long-lasting results.
You can find her online at www.julieolson.com.
On social media, she’s at @JulieOlsonFN.
Julie is also offering a discount on Nutrafol, a hair growth supplement. She recommends the “Women’s Balance Hair Growth” pack as the best choice for women. At $209, it's $55 off the retail price of $264 for a 3-month supply. She highly recommends three months to see any hair regrowth. For men, find Nutrafol via a discount here.
For the machine washable silk pillowcase she mentions.
And find some of the studies she mentions plus other studies on hair loss and hair growth.

It’s not intended to help treat the virus or long-haul but to offer some insight into what worked for someone else. Everyone is different so talk with your health practitioner about your own case.

Have you ever been told that, despite feeling bad, your labwork looks totally normal? Today’s episode will be particularly insightful for women in their 30s-50s, but also holds some essential health insights no matter what stage of life you’re in. Today I’m talking with Dr. Inna Lozinskaya, MD. Like many women, Dr. Inna began experiencing health issues in her 30s, including fatigue, sleeplessness, hair loss, unexplained weight gain and miscarriages. As a hospital physician, she and her doctors investigated it with conventional labwork – only to find that her labs looked frustratingly normal. And yet, she felt anything but. Her search for answers would take her from Western medicine to Eastern medicine to Ayurveda and finally to functional medicine, which is about finding the root cause of illness. That’s where she discovered the answers and healing she needed. Then later, when menopause and new symptoms hit, she again applied the same functional medicine framework to feel back to herself.
In my talk with Dr. Inna, you’ll hear…
Today, Dr. Inna is a physician, international speaker, author, educator, mentor, wife, and so much more. She is a founder and Medical Director of Create Health Integrative and Functional Medicine center in Denver, Colorado.
Dr. Inna was originally a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and Palliative Medicine, she studied Mind-Body Medicine and Chinese Medicine at Harvard Medical School. She is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Integrative Medicine (ABOIM), fully trained by Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM) and is currently training with the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M).
She founded Create Health center to help her clients achieve maximum vitality by resolving the root cause of their symptoms, instead of just offering more medications. Her wellness system helps men and women in midlife and beyond optimize their hormones and balance metabolism, restoring their energy, weight, sleep, memory, and taking their performance to a whole new level.

Today’s episode is one of the most touching and transformative stories we’ve had the honor of capturing. We originally featured today’s guest, Shannon Pickering, in our online magazine, and boy, does she have a story.
Health challenges began for her at age 12 and progressed from there. By the time she was 44, she had been diagnosed with systemic lupus, fibromyalgia, Lyme disease, endometriosis, asthma, narcolepsy, gastritis, gastroparesis, colitis, periodic movement disorder, autoimmune thyroiditis, and more. By 2014 she was disabled. Lupus was impacting her heart, lungs and DNA. She was facing a lifetime of chemo, steroids, hospitalizations and surgeries, to stop the relentless progress. Doctors gave her zero hope for a cure.
But perseverance defines Shannon, and she was not ready to give up on life. So she began her journey to health restoration. And restore her health she did through some major lifestyle changes. But it came with a significant setback: she was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer in 2018. She is thrilled to share that today she is in remission from autoimmunity and cancer and her health is better than ever.
In my talk with Shannon, you’ll hear…
Today, Shannon’s mission is to spread the word that there is always hope for healing. She is the co-owner of Austin Muscle Restoration and the co-founder of The Roadmap to Leadwell and The Lead Yourself to Health corporate and consumer wellbeing programs and classes. Connect with her on Instagram @LeadYourselfToHealth, or Instagram and Facebook @AutoimmuneFoodie or visit her at http://www.wellsiliency.com to be alerted to new book and class launches.
I know you’ll get a lot out of my talk with Shannon. It’s a really honest conversation about the journey of recovering from serious illness.

I’m excited to bring you today’s guest, Maria Rickert Hong. In the last episode we spoke with a mom who found resolutions for her sons’ autism, and PANS/PANDAS. Today’s guest, Maria, also helped guide her sons out of multiple health struggles.
Long story short, early on, one of her sons showed signs of sensory processing disorder, digestive issues, developmental delays and other health concerns. After they weren’t finding answers in conventional medicine, she turned to a naturopath and a variety of practitioners for help.
By finding and addressing the causes behind her son’s health issues, they were able to turn them around.
In my talk with Maria, you’ll hear…
The mix of health struggles, including sensory processing disorder, that led Maria to describe her son’s condition as “almost autism”
Her own health issues and how she believes they were linked to her son’s struggles
The specific therapies and practitioners that helped Maria and her son
Why she removed her mercury dental fillings
The diet changes that improved many of her son’s symptoms
The link between developmental delays and what’s called retained primitive reflexes
How their family addressed Lyme disease and PANS/PANDAS
Why you have to do your own research and be your own and your child’s advocate
And how all this inspired Maria to leave Wall St to become a health practitioner
Maria Rickert Hong is a former Wall Street sell-side equity research analyst who is now a Certified Holistic Health Counselor. She is the author of the bestselling book Almost Autism: Recovering Children from Sensory Processing Disorder and the co-author of Brain Under Attack: A Resource for Parents and Caregivers of Children with PANS, PANDAS, and Autoimmune Encephalitis. Today we’ve brought back Angela Privin. We’ve featured her IBS story on our site at rebuildingmyhealth.com and captured her anxiety success story in episode #5.
Today, Angela is sharing more about her IBS story. She was a reporter in her late 20s in NYC when her digestion started slowing down with constipation and bloating. Doctors diagnosed her with IBS - and told her it was incurable - but Angela didn’t accept that answer. After years of trial and error she healed her gut with the right diet and supplementation. And she’s been free of digestive symptoms for 19 years.
Angela became a health coach 10 years ago to empower others to take their health in their hands and shares inspiration and information on her website, Do It Yourself Health. She guides people using testing, diet, supplementation and mind body therapies such as hypnosis. She finds that addressing the whole person supports her clients’ success.
Angela practices preventative medicine by doing chi gong, cooking for herself, walking daily and learning new things. She loves to write and has published 2 cookbooks for IBS and guides for addressing h. Pylori and SIBO. She's a foodie, student of the biome and loves stand-up comedy. She thinks laughter is the best medicine and her favorite comedian is her dog, Mishka.
In my talk with Angela, you’ll hear…
The food changes, therapies and medicine that didn’t help with Angela’s IBS
Co-conditions that went along with IBS, including yeast infections and migraines
The impact of birth control on her IBS and mood
The underlying conditions behind her IBS, including H. pylori, Candida, low stomach acid and leaky gut
The dietary steps that made her symptoms disappear quickly
How healing from IBS has changed her life
The impact of emotional stress on her digestion and her strategies for managing it
How she’s navigated other gut challenges that have come up over the years, including parasites
You can find Angela online at DIYhealthblog.com and @doityourselfhealth on Instagram, TikTok and Facebook.
I know you’ll get some valuable take-aways from my talk with Angela about some of the causes of IBS and what really works for it.

In this week's episode, I’m talking with another inspiring woman, Lori Balue.
These days, Lori does half marathons and hikes the Grand Canyon. She's aging adventurously and beautifully as she approaches 60. But in her 30s, she never could have imagined she would feel well enough to do any of this.
Back then, she had asthma, allergies, polycystic ovarian syndrome, infertility, brain fog, pre-diabetes, which is also known as insulin resistance, along with depression and anxiety. She had very little energy and was on multiple medications. Along with it, she wanted to lose weight but that was a struggle as well. She was on and off diets for 20 years.
Lori began researching on her own, which led her down a rabbit hole of ever-improving health. She read books and attended health conferences. Ultimately she found a way of eating that worked for her body. And now, she no longer has any of those previous diagnoses. No asthma, allergies, PCOS, brain fog, pre-diabetes, depression or anxiety. And the weight has gradually come off with this lifestyle approach.
Now in her late fifties, she’s in the best health of her life, and for her 60th birthday next year, she’ll hike the CG rim to rim.
In my talk with Lori, you’ll hear…
Lori’s personal experience inspired her to become a health coach. She’s an Adapt Certified Functional Health Coach and a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition® Practioner. She helps women in menopause use functional labs, lifestyle and health adventures to lose weight, stop pain and create an active lifestyle to age beautifully and adventurously.
You can find Lori at www.loribalue.com and on social media as @loribalue.
What really strikes me about this episode and Lori is how much Lori’s life is expanding and getting more exciting as she ages. She's able to do so much more now than she could decades ago, going against the conventional thinking about aging.

I’m excited to bring you our second interview with a long-hauler. If you missed the last one, check out episode 35 for my interview with Beth O’Hara.
Today I’m talking with Jessica Drummond, who is founder and CEO of the Integrative Women’s Health Institute. She’s here to share her personal long-haul story. At the time she caught the virus, she was super active and fit. But it left her with extreme fatigue, burning vascular pain and difficulty walking even to the end of her street.
She applied her clinical experience to her own case. It took quite some time but she’s back to about 80%.
For this episode and the last one, I created a one-page download with a short summary and links to some of the resources and studies Jessica mentions. You can find the link for the one-page summary for this episode on the episode home page at www.rebuldingmyhealth.com/long-haul-recovery.
In my talk with Jessica, you’ll hear…

In this episode, I talk with Leigh Schoener, a mom and health coach who’s discussing the ways that her daughter, Lauren, found relief from POTS symptoms.
POTS stands for postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), a condition characterized by a heart rate increase of 30 beats per minute (bpm) or more, or over 120 bpm, soon after standing. But a number of other symptoms are associated with the syndrome.
POTS often happens in those with other autoimmune or other chronic health conditions.
In my talk with Leigh, you’ll hear…
These days, Leigh is a mom of two teen daughters and a Integrative Nutrition Health Coach for Teens, ages 12-22. She has a passion for all things wellness for your family and teen. She empowers and guides families with teens to live a holistic, natural and nourished life...mind, body and soul...all while keeping it simple and real.
Whether you simply desire better health for your teen/family, have a teen who is overwhelmed and stressed, suffers from every day health challenges, is going off to college and wants to be prepared or if they have a chronic health condition, Leigh works with you on your child's health journey to take actionable steps to live a vibrant and energetic life and to set them up now with healthy habits for life.
You can find Leigh on Instagram at leighdebrawellness and more information about her at https://bossladybio.com/leighschoener.
I know you’ll get a lot out of my talk with Leigh if you or someone you know has POTS. What I appreciate about our interview is hearing the real ups and downs of what worked and what didn’t until they finally arrived at a protocol that worked well for Lauren.

In this episode, I’m talking with Kimberly Anne Richardson, who recovered from mold toxicity, Lyme disease and other health challenges. What a journey she’s been on from bedbound to now helping others recover from environmental illnesses like Lyme disease, mold toxicity, and heavy metal toxicity.
In my talk with Kimberly, you’ll hear…
These days, Kimberly Anne Richardson is a certified Functional Health Practitioner specializing in helping people recover from environmental illnesses like Lyme disease, mold toxicity, and heavy metal toxicity.
After an extremely stressful time in her life, she had a complete breakdown in her health and spent the next 5 years in bed. She went to dozens of doctors both conventional and alternative over the course of 10 years who provided very little relief.
After being diagnosed with advanced neurological Lyme disease and not getting better with treatment, she realized that mold was at the root of all of her health issues. And after going through six mold remediations and years of mold treatment she was only about 40% better.
It wasn’t until she learned that a major source of toxicity was the mold that had colonized in her sinuses. After sinus surgery, she finally started to heal. Her energy started coming back. Her brain and thyroid started working again.
But, her biggest struggle was finding a mold-safe home. She spent thousands of dollars testing potential homes only to find that they tested higher than her current home.
After consulting with numerous professionals and spending hundreds of hours doing her own research, she has created resources to help others hire the right mold professionals and be able to do their own visual mold inspections.
She created the Demystifying Mold Ebook to teach someone who is new to mold what role mold plays in the environment, why it’s making us sick, indoor vs. outdoor mold, how to get rid of mold in your body and home, and much more.
She has also created the Evicting Mold Bundle which includes documents to help people hire QUALIFIED mold inspectors and remediators. (They should not be the same person.)
Finally, she has created the Exposing Mold Bundle that teaches people how to do their own visual inspection that includes a printable checklist that makes it easy to screen potential homes without spending a fortune on testing.
As an advanced detoxification coach, she loves working with women 1:1 to help them reclaim their health after severe environmental illness. She also offers 1:1 mold consults for more individualized guidance along the mold journey.

In this episode, I’m talking with Marc Isaacson, who shares his family’s fascinating personal story around epilepsy. At age 8, his daughter Tess suddenly had a frightening Grand Mal seizure. Then, she continued experiencing seizures regularly, mostly at night.
As the owner of an integrative pharmacy, Marc vowed to find out why the seizures had come on so suddenly. It took several years, and exhaustive exploration, but his family ultimately did discover what triggered Tess’s seizures and found solutions for managing them naturally.
In my conversation with Marc, you’ll hear…
What I love about my interview with Marc is that it points to how critical a personalized approach is to healthcare. What worked for other children with epilepsy did not work for Tess. And what worked for Tess may not work for other children.
Besides his role as a father, Marc has started and led successful entrepreneurial ventures for over 20 years. He has always been passionate about functional nutrition and wellness which led to his first venture, an all-natural beverage company (Glacier Ridge) well ahead of the natural and organic food trends of today. In 2002, Marc acquired Village Green Apothecary (VGA), which was founded in 1965 and is currently an industry-leading integrative pharmacy located next to the National Institute of Health (NIH) in the Washington D.C. area. VGA has since expanded into a suite of personalized health offerings including a custom compounding lab and one of the largest selections of health products found anywhere, with over 10,000 products and 500 brands including the company’s Pathway and Sinus Survival brands. With chemists, pharmacists, nutritionists and knowledgeable full-service staff of over 50, VGA offers personalized solutions for its customer base. Six years ago, Marc began to seek out the most influential and highly respected minds, partnering with Dr. Joseph Pizzorno, the Founder of Bastyr University and highly regarded as “the father of evidence-based natural medicine”. The journey to launch IQYOU Health began and today they have recently launched the beta version of the platform, working with top functional health practitioners to help get to the root cause of their patients’ chronic conditions.
If you are someone you know is struggling with epilepsy, or seizures, I know you’ll take away tons of insights from this episode.

In this episode, I talk with Alison Marras, who shares her personal story of reaching remission from Hashimoto’s disease, along with healing SIBO and parasites. In her mid-20s, Alison was working long hours in the corporate world in New York City, was newly married and hoping to start a family. But soon, she experienced frustrating health issues such as hair loss and digestive distress. At one point, she had lost 75% of her hair. Despite all that, her lab tests looked normal. Finally, she found a naturopath willing to do more extensive thyroid testing, which uncovered Hashimoto’s disease, an autoimmune thyroid condition. From there, she began taking steps to heal her body from the inside out, including an anti-inflammatory diet, bioidentical hormone therapy, gut-healing and reducing stress. Eventually, she reached remission from Hashimoto’s and got pregnant despite having polycystic ovarian syndrome, or PCOS, since her teens. And she finally overcame SIBO, or small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. Alison’s experience changed the course of her life. She went back to school to become a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner. She’s also the author of The Paleo Gut Healing Cookbook and blogs at FoodbyMars.com. She believes your healing journey with real food can be a stress-free lifestyle filled with joy and flavor. Today we have an information-packed, inspiring episode with Dana Kay. It’s another example of how finding underlying root causes can turn around a seemingly chronic condition. When Dana’s son was young, she knew he seemed more active and energetic than other kids. But it was more than that. He was impulsive, defiant and had frequent meltdowns that left the entire family feeling overwhelmed and hopeless. They took their son to a developmental psychologist who did several sessions and testing. Within a few weeks, he was diagnosed with ADHD. Soon they began the conventional treatment for ADHD – medication. And while medication did calm their son, it actually caused new symptoms. In response, doctors prescribed more medications to take care of the symptoms from the original medications. When doctors recommended a fourth medication, to treat anxiety that seem to be caused by the other medications, Dana had had enough. She decided to look for more natural approaches to ADHD. Research pointed to diet as a significant intervention for ADHD. They began by removing a few food types that tend to be inflammatory for most people. Then, food sensitivity testing uncovered specific foods her son should avoid, including seemingly healthy foods like raspberries.
They also did extensive lab testing, giving them insights on his gut infections, dysbiosis and parasites, and uncovering nutritional deficiencies. In particular, testing found high levels of pyrroles, a molecule excreted in urine. High levels of pyrroles can deplete nutrients and lead to a poor tolerance for stress plus mood swings.
About four months of making all of these changes, Dana’s son was a different kid. His tantrums reduced, and they found he was more flexible and calmer. Gradually, he weaned off medication. And over time, they began to see his true personality. Today he’s a thriving middle school student with top grades. And just as importantly, the family’s home is peaceful.
All this inspired Dana to completely switch careers from being an accountant to a holistic health and nutrition practitioner. Dana is now the CEO and founder of the ADHD Thrive Institute and the creator of the ADHD Thrive Method 4 Kids program. Her mission is to help families reduce ADHD symptoms naturally so that children with ADHD can thrive at home, at school, and in life.
In my conversation with Dana, you’ll hear…
I know there are many families struggling out there with ADHD and mood challenges. I think you’ll find some eye-opening insights about what may be causing the problem.

Feel like you need a dictionary to read food labels? Well, this week’s guest has made a career out of educating others on which sneaky food additives and ingredients to avoid to reclaim and protect their health.
These days, Mira Dessy is known as The Ingredient Guru. But she was once happily working as a database administrator. Then, health issues snowballed to the point where she could no longer work. It began with an irritable bowel then progressed to an immune system collapse and then to five different autoimmune diagnoses: ulcerative colitis, Hashimoto’s disease, Raynaud’s disease, chronic fatigue syndrome and a form of POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome). She remembers living her life on the sofa.
Mira proactively began taking control of her own health. She had always eaten what she thought was a healthy diet. But around that time, a friend gave her a book on artificial colors that changed her life. That was the moment she realized that there’s way more to what we eat and she began digging deeper to find hidden sugars and preservatives in things that she thought were healthy foods.
With dedication to a clean, anti-inflammatory diet, Mira gradually regained her energy and normal digestion, and got her life back. She eliminated all signs of ulcerative colitis, along with the symptoms of four autoimmune disorders.
Her experience inspired a complete career change. As The Ingredient Guru, she is a holistic nutrition professional, author, and a popular public speaker. She knows that it's not just what you eat, but what's in what you eat. Mira is a board-certified Holistic Health Practitioner who has been working with clients for over 15 years, helping those with chronic health issues find nourishing solutions for wellness.
She can be found online at theingredientguru.com and on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/theingredientguru/.

Alissa Frazier was in college when she first began experiencing odd symptoms. She felt an electrical-type shock run down her neck along her spine and developed optic neuritis. Plus she had aches and pains that seemed odd for someone in her early 20s. After extensive testing, doctors diagnosed her with the autoimmune disorder, multiple sclerosis, or MS. To manage symptoms, she tried daily injections and then Tysabri. They both helped but she still experienced considerable fatigue and pain. Then she recalled that, a few years earlier, going gluten-free had helped her symptoms. This time she decided to go further with diet, choosing to follow the autoimmune protocol (AIP) diet and an elimination diet to reduce the inflammation associated with MS. Within a few months, her pain and fatigue had stopped. These days, Alissa relies on a paleo diet, plus avoids some specific trigger foods, such as nightshades, to help keep her MS symptoms at bay. Alissa’s health turnaround inspired a career change. She’s now a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Certified Personal Trainer, Nutritional Therapy Practitioner and AIP Certified Coach. She works with individuals 1:1 either remotely or in-person who have multiple sclerosis and other neurological disorders. She uses real food and anti-inflammatory lifestyle coaching to help individuals improve their symptoms, feel better in their skin and create a lifestyle that improves their health and leads to a life they love. Now that she has the energy to do so, she loves being outdoors and can usually be found hiking or lifting weights.

Elizabeth Yarnell was two weeks shy of her 30th bday when she woke up suddenly blind in one eye. She went through testing, and very rapidly, was diagnosed with the autoimmune disorder, multiple sclerosis. She was told she would probably be in a wheelchair within 10 years. Her health crash was sudden and stunning. Leading up to that, she had experienced tingling in her fingers, but hadn’t thought anything of it. For five years, she tried conventional MS treatments, but experienced intense side effects: seizures and severe rashes. She suspected there was a better path. Searching for alternative approaches, she found solutions that changed her health dramatically such that she no longer has any symptoms of MS. Her experience changed the course of her career and life. Since being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, Elizabeth Yarnell has been busy studying how to manage autoimmunity naturally as a traditional naturopath and Certified LEAP Therapist. She’s worked with hundreds of MS and other autoimmune sufferers in her nationwide clinic using unique, personalized natural therapies to empower them to reclaim their health. She’s a TEDx speaker, award-winning author whose cookbook has sold more than 60,000 copies, a patented inventor, and has been featured on CBS, NBC, ABC, and PBS as well as in Good Housekeeping, Health, Martha Stewart Living Radio, and many other outlets. Could symptoms such as extreme fatigue, difficulty losing weight and brain fog be related to your thyroid?
For Dr. Emily Kiberd, the cause was Hashimoto’s disease, an autoimmune thyroid condition. Though she had endured tons of testing, she didn’t discover Hashimoto’s until a functional medicine doctor tested for thyroid antibodies.
Emily made lifestyle changes to begin repairing and reversing Hashimoto’s. By changing how she eats and works out, and addressing several underlying root causes, she’s been able to put her Hashimoto’s into REMISSION.
In my conversation with Emily, you’ll hear…
If you have Hashimoto’s or have hypothyroid or hyperthyroid, I know you’ll find tons of helpful insights in this episode.

If you have struggled with endometriosis or know someone who has, this episode offers tons of insight into how to treat endometriosis naturally – and effectively.
Today, I’m talking with Dr. Erika Gray, who experienced life-limiting endometriosis beginning in her teens. That’s when endometriosis began causing extreme pain and exhaustion for her.
Surgery followed by birth control pills brought very brief relief before it worsened again. Doctors told Erika that she would probably need a hysterectomy in her 20s. But she and her family resolutely wouldn’t accept that future for her.
Instead, Erika’s family found a functional chiropractor who helped them with a natural treatment for endometriosis that ultimately stopped the pain – and allowed Erika to go on to have two children naturally.
These days, Dr. Erika Gray is the co-founder and CMO at ToolBox Genomics and MyToolBox Genomics. As a pharmacist having had years of experience in both alternative and allopathic medicine, Dr. Erika is passionate about integrating the two modalities to inspire people to live healthier lives. She believes that helping people understand who they are from their genes outward will help provide them with the tools to understand how they interact with their environment and the role this interaction has with their health. In my conversation with Erika, you’ll hear…
I know that you’ll find some fresh insights on endometriosis in Erika’s inspiring story merged with her clinical knowledge and experience.

On this episode, I talk with Joanna Chodorowska. Joanna is a driven, lifelong athlete who has competed in multiple Ironman triathlon races. It’s a grueling, day-long race where you swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles and THEN run a full marathon! Joanna was at the peak of her athletic fitness when she hit the wall (figuratively). Her body just wouldn’t go anymore. She soon learned that she had adrenal exhaustion. She went from training for 140-mile races to needing a nap after walking to the mailbox. Exercise was her stress relief – until it became a major stressor on her health. In my conversation with Joanna, you’ll hear…
These days, Joanna is a holistic nutritionist, a pain and inflammation expert, author, speaker, ordained minister, founder of Nutrition in Motion, athlete and lover of life. She guides athletes to relieve their pain and health challenges so they more fully love their bodies and active lives.
Joanna discovered through her own healing from adrenal exhaustion and arthritic hips, that the body can heal naturally given the right tools.

My guest this week is Dr. Melanie Keller, who struggled with digestive issues for years before learning that it was caused by SIBO, or small intestinal bacterial overgrowth.
Dr. Melanie Keller earned her doctor of naturopathic medicine degree from the National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM) in Portland, Oregon. Her education included an extended internship and post-graduate training with Steven Sandberg-Lewis as well as post-graduate training with Allison Siebecker. She went on to become a founding physician in the development of the SIBO Center and SIBO Symposium at National University of Natural Medicine.
Once in Southern California, she spent time with leading SIBO physician, Dr. Mark Pimentel, MD, and his team at Cedars-Sinai’s GI Motility Program and the Pimentel Laboratory.
While in naturopathic school, Dr. Melanie discovered the cause of her longtime digestive problems was actually SIBO, or rather, an excess of methogens. She eventually treated it successfully, but it took multiple tries.
Now, she shares this knowledge with her patients, for whom she develops highly individualized treatments.
In this episode, Melanie primarily shares how she was able to treat SIBO without antibiotics.

My guest this week is Tony Ferro, who shares his inspiring story of eliminating his multiple sclerosis symptoms almost entirely.
Tony once experienced numbness, tremors, severe brain fog, fatigue, vision loss and difficulty walking, leading to a diagnosis of MS.
After the initial shock, Tony went into research mode, looking for ways to help his MS. He knew he didn’t want to take medication because of the potential side effects.
Ultimately, he found a lifestyle approach that sounded promising. But it wouldn’t be easy. His family owned a pizza restaurant and Tony was a self-described “pizza guy, party guy.”
But he radically changed what he ate and how he lived his life. And he saw the impact of that as his MS symptoms gradually began fading.
In my conversation with Tony, you’ll hear…
The five lifestyle changes that helped him alleviate nearly all his MS symptoms
The nutrition plan that worked for him
Why he believes multiple sclerosis was the best thing that ever happened to him
The role of self-love and acceptance in his healing

My guest this week is Julie Michelson, who once struggled with the pain, brain fog and fatigue of five autoimmune disorders.
Her diagnoses included rheumatoid arthritis, celiac disease, fibromyalgia, Raynaud’s disease and Hashimoto’s. At one point she was on 10 medications, some of which were only to help with the side effects of others.
Doctors advised her that she could slow the progression of autoimmunity and manage symptoms, but that her autoimmunity was only going to get worse.
Instead, Julie proved them wrong. She took control and found ways to turn around her multiple autoimmune disorders.
Soon, she was pain-free, full of energy and OFF all but one medication. And she feels better now in her 50s than she did in her 30s.

My guest this week is Kathi McCarty. Kathi once led a Denver-area bank branch with assets exceeding $100 million. Then, her life changed nearly overnight.
It began with dry, gritty eyes, as if she had endured a sandstorm. And not long after that, Kathi woke up with double vision.
After a slew of doctors’ visits and tests, she was diagnosed with Graves’ disease, an autoimmune disorder that results in the overproduction of thyroid hormones, or hyperthyroidism. She also learned she had thyroid eye disease, also called TED, which explained the extreme impact to her eyes.
Kathi went on to have surgery to improve her eyesight, however, she also began applying a number of lifestyle changes and natural health practices to lower her inflammation and stress, and improve the symptoms of her autoimmunity, including extreme fatigue and vision problems.

My guest this week is Lisa Rudy Williams, the author of Biohack Your Way Beyond Lyme: An Inspired Guide for Recovery.
Lisa went from being a healthy, active kid to an adolescent with extreme anxiety and panic attacks – not long after her mother recalls finding a tick on her daughter. She was eventually diagnosed as bipolar and put on several medications. That was accompanied by a host of other health problems, including allergies, asthma and gastrointestinal issues.
It would take more than 20 years for Lisa to be diagnosed with Lyme disease and co-infections. And even then, she and her family had to ask for that testing.
Since then, Lisa has become a coach, biohacking consultant and health educator with the mission to empower others to take action and experiment with open-minded curiosity in every area of their life. Lisa is grateful for all of the lessons it’s taught her and wants to be of service to those that are ready to move forward in their own journey to better health.
In this information-packed episode, Lisa shares some important insights about tick- and insect-borne illnesses and the ways she biohacked her own health… and ultimately recovered from late-stage Lyme disease, co-infections and other health challenges.
In this information-packed episode, you’ll hear …
· How her tick-borne illness first manifested as anxiety, panic attacks and then later a diagnosis as bipolar
· Surprising facts about Lyme disease and co-infections
· The importance of treating Lyme disease and co-infections early
· After years of Lisa seeing top doctors, a health practitioner wasn’t the one who suggested a Lyme disease test
· The types of testing that made the biggest difference for her
· Which conventional, natural and alternative therapies helped her recover from late-stage chronic Lyme disease and Bartonella, including oxidative therapy
· Some of the ground-breaking approaches she used to treat pathogens
· The role of detox and how she opened her detox pathways
· The importance of trusting your instincts in your own healing and Lisa’s inspiring message for those suffering with Lyme or other chronic illnesses

My guest this week is Cynde, a North Carolina woman who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
Cynde has always been exceptionally active, typically walking miles every day. So it was really noticeable when her gait became uneven and one of her arms wasn’t swinging when she walked. That was followed by stiffness, tremors and cognitive challenges. Eventually, she began using a walker.
Cynde knew she wanted to try a natural approach to what she suspected was Parkinson’s disease, so she researched options and found a naturopath and Chinese medicine doctor to help. Through trial and error, she arrived at the right combination of lifestyle changes and therapies, which turned around her symptoms.
Cynde now shows zero noticeable signs of Parkinson’s disease and is back to walking miles every day – no walker needed.
I know you’ll take away a lot from Cynde’s story and get ideas for natural treatments for Parkinson’s. It’s a powerful example of improving a chronic illness that typically only progresses one direction.

My guest today is Angela Privin of Do It Yourself Health. She’s my personal digestive health coach.
Angela suffered with Lyme disease-triggered irritable bowel syndrome for five years, which caused anxiety to surface for the first time. After doctors shrugged her off, she decided to find her own solutions. She spent a year healing her IBS with diet and supplements and saw her anxiety improve too. From there, she went on to become a digestive health coach.
She's been IBS-free for 16 years and now helps others resolve their digestive symptoms using diet, supplementation and lifestyle rebalancing.
But when new health issues popped up more recently, anxiety surfaced once again. Angela addressed those health issues and found relief for anxiety in the process.
In this episode, you’ll learn…
How Angela experienced anxiety for the first time when she contracted Lyme disease and then IBS
How anxiety has returned when her body has been out of balance, particularly with Lyme disease, IBS, mold toxicity, thyroid antibodies (Hashimoto’s disease), adrenal fatigue and stress.
The lifestyle changes that helped her mental health
The herbal and nutrient support that made the biggest difference for her

My guest today completely turned around her health after being virtually bedridden. In her 30s, Louise Swartswalter was a special education teacher, wife and mother of two young children. Then she experienced a serious health crisis that would change her life forever. Rather than accept being sick for the rest of her life, Louise began studying alternative medicine and energy work that would eventually lead to her recovery and second career as a powerful healer and successful business owner.
Today, Dr. Louise Swartswalter is a naturopathic doctor, certified biofeedback specialist and founder of the Albuquerque Natural Health Center. For over three decades she has specialized in healing and balancing the human brain through her signatureB.R.A.I.N. System, the most comprehensive healing system for the brain, body, soul and life.
Through the Albuquerque Natural Health Center, Louise has the opportunity to work with hundreds of individuals seeking help with health issues, including ADHD, allergies, autoimmune conditions, thyroid imbalances, digestive disorders, plus those looking for relationship and career success.
She discovered that, to be healthy, vibrant and successful in your life and business, your brain must be in balance.
In this episode, you’ll learn…
She says: “I did all the body pieces, you know, food rotation, diet, organic food, all my great supplements, you know, all of those lifestyle pieces, you know? And then I went like, all right, this isn't working all the way. There's more I need to do. And I started on a journey of like a grateful journal and, you know, more spiritual and mental, emotional kind of healing. And then I was introduced to energy work and the energy work actually took me even further.”

Today’s guest is Dr. Evan Hirsch, otherwise known as Dr. Evan. He’s here to talk about chronic fatigue, something that has affected his family personally.
Dr. Evan is a board-certified MD in family medicine and is also trained in integrative and functional medicine. He’s now one of the nation's authorities on chronic fatigue. He and his wife both personally suffered with chronic fatigue for years before they found help using the Fix Your Fatigue Program that Evan himself pioneered at the Hirsch Center for Integrative Medicine in Olympia, Washington.
With his approach, he found that clients were getting better, faster. They were resolving very challenging medical conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, diabetes and high blood pressure.
He has helped hundreds of people across the country resolve their chronic fatigue and is on a mission to reverse one million cases of chronic fatigue.
In this episode, you’ll learn…
He says: “I mean, when you know the right tests to do and you're kind of seeing these things, it's no wonder why I was feeling like crud because I had positives. I had significance on every single one of these tests and just one of these tests alone can be indicative of causing fatigue. But I had so many of them and I was just kind of pushing through my days. But as I learned more about these and I applied them, it just kept taking me to a new level in my energy and my ability to focus.”

Like many of you, she was a mom frustrated about not being able to do more with her family.
She was also a physician, an OBGYN. But all her knowledge from conventional medicine wasn’t helping her. Eventually, she found functional medicine practitioners to help her find the root causes behind her illness and went on to regain her full, active life. And she lost 100 pounds in the process.
