You in?
Alright. Let's get into it.
It’s been a ride. Today let’s wrap it all up: Where will you go from here? What do you know about who you are and what you are capable of? What possibilities does your story hold? I need some intense movie trailer music for this… How to be the author of your own story.
Am I biased against my body? Where does my worth come from? What happens when my body changes in a way I don't like?
...Yeah. Me, too.
Figure it out with me on this week's episode "How to Love Your Body"
A great indicator of how your relationship will be long-term is HOW you disagree. Is is by attacking and withholding? Or do you disagree with understanding and vulnerability? This episode gets into the WHY and the HOW of "Willingness to Change."
Ok so AUTHENTICITY, SINCERITY, TRANSPARENCY AREN’T THE SAME THING! They are an interconnecting triad, And we need all three to be great communicators. So what’s the difference between these words and how can we go about using them to increase our ability to communicate and connect?
Want to know how to see if someone has "potential" really fast? Put their texts through the communication test and see how they stack up.
I don’t understand what it’s like to be single for years and years. I just don’t. I don’t understand the highs, and I don’t understand the lows. But I do know that self-love is a beast, no matter what your relationship status is. And I want to walk this journey with you. Finding your purpose is a difficult quest, because it begins with self-love. So where do we begin? Well, this week’s POP Challenge is my best foundation for beginning to find yourself, and find your purpose: 1. What lights you up? 2. Ask a "Guide" what you're good at. 3. Get ready to fail.
Cutting our hair can be a very emotional thing. A lot of our worth is tied up in our hair. Our hair is US, WE ARE OUR HAIR! So what happens when you cut it ALL off? Cali Huber is a mom with spunk. She sees what is lacking in her life and she sets a plan to address it. Today we are talking about owning your confidence, making your own choices, and living freely the life you want to live.
What do you do when you feel stuck? I just try and take the next step, even if it is a hideous and clumsy step, like this episode.
I am in the process of overhauling this podcast, so go into your email really quickly and let me know: What do you come to the LLLY Podcast for? What do you not like about it? And will you please give me some names for this podcast because this one is TOOOOOO LOOONNNNGGG.
Email me at learnliveloveyourself@gmail.com to give me your much needed advice. Thank you for your time and thoughfulness.

NOTE: This is NOT professional medical advice. Sarah and I are not doctors; please seek medical help if you are experiencing the symptoms of depression or suicidal thoughts. We love you! It can be so difficult to know what to do when a friend experiences a tragedy. I’m guessing it is infinitely more difficult to actually experience a tragedy such as the suicide of a loved one. Sarah Grotenhuis gets on here today to speak her truth and give us the framework to deal with grief in a healthy, self-loving way.
Today we’re talking about 5 ways to deal with uncertainty, and how you can create a feeling of safety in your life by doing these 5 simple things: 1. Retreat to what you know and love 2. Get off the phone 3. Learn a new skill 4. Turn and Serve 5. Find God
Pushing ourselves to do something outside of our comfort zones is incredibly important- it keeps our brains malleable, it opens us up to finding new passions, and it grows us, spiritually. But there’s one problem, must of us DON’T LIKE DOING IT! Cali Brown is a comfort-zone pusher. She’s willing to sit in the awkwardness of trying something new long enough to get the hang of it, and then master it. She’s here to try and talk us into getting out of our comfort zones.
Some people are born with great hair. You might even be able to think of someone right off the top of your head who has, what you think is, THE BEST HAIR. But do they feel the same way about their own hair? Hmmmm… good question. We are going to be saying “hair” a lot in this episode. Grab your blow dryer and mousse, because we are about to dig into what it takes to really love your hair.
When facing self doubt, Kurt says you need three things: "Purpose, Vision, & Glory." Remembering who we are, resisting the resistance, and setting impossible goals that only God can achieve will help us lead and live with confidence.
Changing your media habits is so hard. I’m in the middle of this right now. When you feel that little tug in your tummy “You know better than this, you can do better than this,” we, (you, me, all the listeners) here at the Learn Live Love Yourself podcast, respond to that feeling. So when you feel like it might be time to take a good, hard look at the stuff you are listening to and watching, this episode is here for you to start you on your journey.
Did you catch the Galentine’s webinar from last week? If not, and you’d like to watch the video replay, email me at learnliveloveyourself@gmail.com and say, “Hey, can I see the replay of the webinar?” And I’ll send you the link! Otherwise, you’ve got the audio right here… We had so much fun chatting about products that help with acne and sun spots, Lauren and Tiffini answered TONS of questions about how to take care of your skin. And we also got into some more serious stuff, like, “even if these products work for me, am I going to feel more confident? Where does confidence originate from?” And obviously I had something to say about that. This week I have repurposed the webinar as a podcast episode, giving you the most relevant pieces so that you can come back and revisit this information any time you need to.
Today, I am going to be your personal exercise buddy! Whether you are a new mom, an old mom, or someone who hasn’t stretched their body in a good, long while, it is time to EXERCISE! I will talk you through 8 minutes of moving your body, (you can be doing squats in the living room, walking around a park, kicking your legs and flapping your arms, or climbing some stairs. I don’t care.) It doesn’t matter what you’re doing. But I do care that you get into the right mindset. We are NOT here to lose weight. We are here to move, we are here to have fun, we are here to feel better. And as I always tell my fitness classes, “There’s a difference between pain from an injury and fatigue from new muscle use. Figure out the difference.” Today we are starting you off slowly, we aren’t going to flip any tractor tires across a field or anything. But I want you to promise me that you’ll keep moving til we’re done. Even if that means just marching in place while you catch your breath. This is your time to move in a way that feels good to your body. Are you ready? Grab some water and put your shoes on! Alright. Let’s get into it.
So many women struggle with self-love issues. Combine that with actual health problems that can keep us from feeling our best, and it can be so difficult to show up in the world with confidence and reach out to others as we are born to do.
Lauren Brooke is the founder and creator of Lauren Brooke Cosmetiques, a natural and organic makeup company that excels in helping women treat their bodies well, while teaching them how to express themselves through the makeup they wear. Today we’ll hear about Lauren’s journey from hurting to healing, and the company she has built to help others do the same.
Today we are talking about… Is it bad to make judgements about other people? Do you like it when others make judgements about you? What about when you make judgements about yourself? Do you realize you’re doing it?
In this episode, we define “judging,” and take a look at 3 facets of judging: 1. Judging others 2. Others judging us 3. Judging ourselves. We’ll answer the questions of “who judges? Is it helpful?” And “what is the MOST HELPFUL thing I can do for someone that I’m judging?” Alright? Let’s get into it.
This is part 2 of a two-part interview with Priya O’Shea, a contestant on Season 10 of The Great British Bake Off. In part one, we talked about the road that lead to GBBO, everything else that was happening in Priya’s life, and what it was like in the tent. If you haven’t listened to part one, go back to Episode 35 and catch that first.
Part two is all about the HOW. How do we, as moms, follow our big dreams? How do we make the time? How do we even find out what we love to do? Listen in as Priya gives her advice- I’m telling you, it’s fabulous and SO REAL. Alright? Let’s get into it.
Do you love The Great British Bake Off as much as I do? I was lucky enough to grab some time with Priya O’Shea from Season 10 of the Great British Bake Off to pick her brain about finding ourselves as moms, and pushing ourselves to chase our dreams, while still following our OTHER dreams to be a mom and have a family.
In PART 1 of the interview with Priya O’Shea, we get an overview of who Priya is, and her recent journey of finding out about what she’s good at, what really pushes her, and what she excels at, while also being a mom. We also get an inside look at what life was actually like to be a part of the Bake-Off and also being a mom. (Spoiler: it was nuts)
This is a small episode. In it, you will find: My new social media policy What I believe in. What do YOU believe in? AND A HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT NEXT WEEK’S EPISODE THAT I'M FREAKING OUT ABOUT SO DON’T MISS THE END!!
nfertility. This is a difficult episode to introduce. I can’t speak to this, personally, but I’ve watched 4 of my close friends go through it. I was sitting, trying to find the right words to express what I THINK it must feel like for these women, trying each month, and hoping! And then getting punched in the gut with a period or a negative or FALSE POSITIVE test that seems to rub in their face the fact that they are not pregnant, and I just can’t type it. I just don’t get it. It is bigger than me. It is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. I do know there is pain; I do know there is heartbreak. I see the frustration and sometimes exasperation and repressed bitterness as they try to carry on with their lives, supporting others, working their jobs, cleaning the house, counting the days. I do know that every infertility journey is different, and so today we’ll hear about one woman’s story. I’ve brought Lindsey Brady here today to talk to us about her journey with secondary infertility, and how she works to love her body through it all.
No, there is no magic way to suddenly love your pregnant body. If there were, I would make boat loads of money selling it to insecure women just like me. And no, these methods are not for women who just want to complain about how hard it is to get used to their new bodies (also previously me), without actually doing the mental work required to make the mindset shift. Being pregnant is not for weaklings, and neither is learning to love your pregnant body. But you are not weak! You are strong! You’re carrying a baby, and it’s time to be at peace about what you look like in the process.
We tie our worth up in so many different things: our accomplishments, our looks, our friends, our number of followers… but relying on this EXTERNAL validation is so exhausting. Do we really need to wait for others to make us feel worthy? In my mind, there is only one place I should go for validation, and that is to my Heavenly Father. But I’m not perfect at this. How can I feel His love for me when I don’t feel it for myself? What does His love even feel like? How can I use personal revelation to access His love and feel my true worth? Today I have Renee Alberts on the podcast talking about her journey to feeling self-love, and how personal revelation has played a key role in her life.
Have you ever felt like there was a huge invisible wall between you and your Heavenly Father? That you were trying to shout through it, but you never got a reply? Or have you ever doubted that anyone COULD hear you through that wall? I’m here to tell you: Heavenly Father hears you. He will speak to you. But the few times in your past that you’ve felt like you’ve received answers to your prayers are just a taste of what is to come. Those were little mercies, let’s call them freebies- they took little work and little patience. But, in my study and small experience, that’s not how most of Heavenly Father’s communication works. And I know that feeling the Spirit and understanding promptings is such a personal thing, but there are a few common, basic needs one has to meet before starting to feel that the wall has doors, and the heavens ARE open.
I LOVE Holiday eating: family and friends gathered around, shovelling in the classic comfort foods from our past. Eating brings people together in the best way. But I realize that, for some, there is also a dark side to food. With it can come guilt, shame, and terrible inner struggle. I believe we shouldn’t have to go through any of that, ever. Especially at such a special time of year. Brenna O’Malley doesn’t think you need to deal with any of this during the holidays, either. She is a Registered Dietitian with a mouthful to say on this subject. I started following her on Instagram because of her body-positive take on eating. She is the champion of the spin off “WHY I ate Wednesdays,” empowering women to give all the practical, silly, and REAL reasons for WHY they chose to nourish their body that day. And I think that’s amazing. Brenna is here today to talk us through the basics of how she teaches clients to approach “healthy” holiday eating (which has more to do with your mindset, than the fat content) and how we can STILL love our bodies, even when we over eat.
Happy Holidays! In this episode, you’ll learn why and how to combat the “food guilt” around the holidays, why holiday eating is our FRIEND, and how to set reasonable expectations so that you don’t feel like a failure going into the new year. You ready? Ok so I’m not here to tell you to never diet ever, that’s an episode for another time. But come on! You spend hours daydreaming about and preparing food, and then you feel like you “shouldn’t” eat it, or “shouldn’t” eat so much of it. What does that feeling of unmet expectations do for you? Can you guilt yourself into eating less? Since when has that ever worked? NO! You made your favorite foods, your family is coming together this year, you are going to sit down and enjoy yourself and eat whatever you want.
As wives and stay-at-home-moms, it is SO EASY to put our needs on the back burner. With so many things that NEED our attention like kids and dishes and bills and birthdays, often our own well-being is cast to the side as a “non-priority.” And then one day we wake up and realize we’re about to lose our marbles and plunge ourselves into some “me time” to salvage what we can of our sanity. But then, what about our husbands? There they are, diligently, silently working in the background, so strong and independent: “We don’t really need a date night every week, right? We get along great! Thinking about doing special things for him seems like a HUGE extra burden on an already stressed schedule. So what do we do? Is it possible to find the balance between prioritizing ourselves AND our marriages?
When you pour your heart and soul into your kids, it is so easy to lose yourself along the way. But I shouldn’t say “lose” yourself: you can never really “lose yourself,” because, obviously, here you are, listening to this podcast. You’re here, you’re you. But we can FORGET who we were or FORGET what we used to love. When we stop cultivating our interests, we forget them. And yes, maybe we don’t have as much time for our favorite hobby as we used to, but does that mean we should give it up completely? Does that mean we can’t replace it with something else? In this episode, you’ll learn how to REMEMBER who you are, how to make time for you, and how to not feel guilty about it.
Dating is the worst, am I right? It’s filled with so many highs and lows, it can feel like you are in constant turmoil. I was only in the dating scene for a few years, but I was already sick of it when I got married. Because dating takes serious guts: you have to be willing to put yourself out there, to get your heart broken, to navigate difficult situations. It’s definitely not a picnic. (Well maybe you go on a picnic for a date, but still, it’s not easy.) And while there be many good times and happy experiences we appreciate from dating, it can be hard to keep the optimism if it feels like dating is the only stage of life you’ll ever be stuck in. But there is hope! My strong, smart and beautiful SIL, Samantha Clyde is popping in on this podcast to share her thoughts about how to stay optimistic while dating.
This episode is a round up of Parts 1-5, taking all the most relevant and impactful aspects from each. We’ll revisit 5 topics: Your Body is a Good Friend, Nourishing Your Body, How to Dress Your Body, Making Exercise Fun, and How to Look Good Without Makeup. Enjoy!
Personal growth is a fine line to walk: how do we Love who we are currently, while trying to improve? In this episode you will: Find the courage to say “I can be better” while still knowing that you are worthy and so important and impossibly awesome, just how you are.
How to know you are doing "enough," what "enough" is, and the way to measure your effort so you can feel at peace with your contribution to life.
How do we feel about makeup? Is it our friend? Our enemy? Our frenemy? A lot of what we believe about makeup comes from our youth: the days when we fought the acne and spent hours every morning before school getting ready. But has our makeup routine evolved with our lives? Do we even know how to apply it correctly? It’s time to make peace with makeup: but to do that, you have to first make peace with your face. Loving the face you have, just how it is (wrinkles and neck fat and all), is the first step to being comfortable in your skin. Because life is busy! And if you are too afraid to make a Costco run without any makeup on, something needs to change. There is a way to use makeup to make you feel put together, without relying on it so heavily that it is necessary to function in everyday life. "Jane Insane” Williamson is an Instagram Influencer, a fashionista, and a true artist with the makeup brush. She’s also my sister in law. I’ve known Jane since she was a teen and she has taken Instagram by storm. The thing that sets her apart from the rest is that she is so real. Yeah she has photoshoots and looks so glamorous, but then you swipe left and see her falling over while trying to achieve that crazy pose. There she is in full makeup on one image, but then, there she is on her stories, no makeup at the lake or at home or the gym, showing up for the people who feel like they KNOW her. She’s open and candid, and that’s her secret sauce to her success. I believe we can apply this to our lives, whether we are IG influencers or not. Showing up for the people in our lives whether we feel all put together or not, is the key to authenticity. Finding the balance between what looks good on our face and also feeling at peace if we don’t have time for concealer is the way we walk with confidence: dolled up or not, don’t be afraid to show your real face.
It's time to take charge of how we feel about our ordinary, naked faces. What does your actual face look like under there? I have a list of 20 ways to look your best without makeup to help you find out that you don't need any makeup to feel marvelous.
Everyone knows that staying off of social media is hard to do. We try to stay away because we need more time being present with our kids, right? We don’t want them growing up with a mom who has her phone up to her face all the time, right?? But how do we do it? How is it possible? Can we maintain the balance, or is it best to just give it all up? Rose Allen was blessed with TWINS as her first babies, and she has done marvelously thus far of keeping them alive. She is also mostly not on social media. I’ve brought her on here today to see, first off, WHY, and secondly, HOW she does it, and what she thinks the benefits are of living (mostly) social media-free.
Are you sick of scrolling endlessly? Do you know you shouldn't get on social media so often, but lack the motivation to actually do it? This episode and the free workbook from The Learn Live Love Yourself Podcast will help you find the willpower to change your social media habits. All it takes is clicking the link, then saying, "Alright. Let's do this," and you're on your way: 10 Days to Social Media Freedom.
For many people, the hardest part about exercising is the first step: getting out of the house. It takes serious willpower, especially when you feel like you have absolutely no energy to wake up and make exercising a part of your day. We know it's great for our bodies and our minds to exercise, and we know we need to find something we love to do to make it fun and enjoyable. So, KNOWING all of that, WHY is it that we can’t just DO IT? What is holding us back, and how can we get over it? One of my personal heroines is Elise Caffee, who will EVEN ON VACATION get out and do her morning run, wherever she is! And I want to know her secret: what gets her up out of bed week after week to get her exercising in? She has 3 kids, her own business, and travels for a good chunk of the year. She’s busy, she’s probably tired, but she exercises! What?? So we’re here today to get inside her head and really dig into what is it that gets Elise out and onto her runs in the morning.
Want to know the secret to exercising regularly? What is your exercising story? Where does it start? Where does it END? Does it have an ending? I hope not. This episode is all about learning what actually counts as exercise, figuring out what is stopping us, and how to open our minds and make it fun.
Our kids are our life’s work: we feel like a painter and they are our masterpieces. We pour our whole hearts and souls into cultivating their behavior, their life experiences, it’s no wonder that when they decide to follow a different path that we, as mothers, are heartbroken and completely wrecked. We say, “My creation! My masterpiece! How could it have ended up this way? I tried so hard… but I must have not tried hard enough.” In our minds, there is just no other way that our children could go astray or become distant, except that we had failed them somehow. But here’s the newsflash: your child’s behavior is not a reflection of you as a mother. I don’t have any teens yet, but already I can see this struggle for control between my older daughters and me and it’s freaking me out. That’s why I’ve brought Kristen Goodman from Kristen Goodman Coaching* here today, to help us get some perspective, and give us some tools to deal with our delinquent teens.
What is a “cool” mom? Is it important to be one? This episode gets into what my own parents were like, why I respected them, and a few pieces of advice that I’ve picked up in my short parenting experience:be silly, be consistent, be calm, be open. Find out what kind of parents you had, and what kind of mom you want to be!
Are you tired of wondering why nothing looks good on your body? Why you can never find clothes that fit? It is a delicate balance between being obsessed with how you look, and being thoughtful in taking care of yourself. We want to be presentable, but we don’t want to constantly be worrying over, “Does this look good on me?” “What do other people think of this?” “Why can’t I ever find things that fit?” Taking too much time to decide how dress ourselves can be overwhelming and defeating. Wearing clothes that fit, and that you love, can make a HUGE difference in how you view yourself, and will bleed into how we carry ourselves throughout the day. Renan Ichi, with his varied background (learning to sew from a tailor in Brazil, taking image consulting courses) has made it a part of his life to help his friends find what their true style is. Renan is here to offer his advice about clothes, fashion, and body shapes to help us learn to love dressing our bodies.
So, you hate dressing your body, eh? You think you are fat? Can’t stand looking at yourself in the mirror? Do you get frustrated that your clothes don’t fit like they used to? Yeah, yeah, I know. Been there. This episode will tell you how to change the types of clothes you wear, yes, but more importantly, it’ll tell you how to change the way you look at and see your clothes. NO MORE FEELING BAD ABOUT THE WAY YOU LOOK BECAUSE YOUR CLOTHES DON’T FIT! Are we REALLY going to let our clothes ruin our day? NO! Listen to find out how to Love to Dress Your Fat Body.
When addressing our feelings, we have two options: use our emotions, or let our emotions use us. If we go through life, never pausing to assess our physiological and emotional responses to the circumstances happening to us, it is too easy to get swept away and feel out of control. In our hyped-up, fast-paced world, it is vital that we learn the skills to sit still with ourselves, scan our bodies for feelings, and rationally ask, “What is this emotion doing for me?” To be able to correctly name and understand our emotions is to be able to have more peace in our life. My chaplain-turned yogi friend Jenna is here to share her story and give us the tools we need to become emotionally aware.
Do you ever have a hard time letting go of the anger you feel? Do the episodes of your life come back to you over and over, at the most random times? Do you ever have trouble sleeping because you are so angry, and you keep trying to think of what you should have said or done in a difficult situation? In this episode of “Learn Live Love Yourself,” Lynzi talks about what makes us angry, explores the consequences of anger, and gives advice about how she deals with this unsavory emotion.
Many people have misconceptions surrounding food, regarding what, when, how, and how much they should eat. Some people swear by extreme diets, some people have given up on trying to feed themselves well altogether. In Ep 8, “Nourish Your Body (Part 2 of the Love Your Body Series), we delved into why it's important to nourish your body, and discussed a few ways how to change how we think about food. We learned that loving your body means being considerate, judicious, and sometimes also lenient about what you put in your body. In the end, “all food brings something to the table,” and just in case you still aren’t convinced, today we have Lisa Keovongsa, RD here to give us more insight and maybe even some science about why it truly is important to “intuitively” feed your body.
What is “good” food and why do we need to eat it? In this episode of “Learn Live Love Yourself,” we learn how to stop withholding food from your good friend, your body! Your body needs the energy and the JOY that comes from actively nourishing it. This episode will help you learn how changing your mindset will help you to get past your reservations about food. You’re welcome.
Internet engagement is still a relatively new system of communication, especially when compared to other forms of communication, such as public speaking, writing letters, and even having a face to face conversation. The rules of internet engagement have been formed quickly and without much thought. The screen between us impedes the usual social restraint about what is and isn’t appropriate to say to someone. Because of this, we often feel justified in railing against others because of their dissenting opinions. This is harmful not only to society, but to the individual as well. While lashing out at someone on the internet may seem to bolster us in our opinions at first, over time, the interactions we have with others will come to define us. We want our legacy to show we were compassionate, understanding, and wise, but many of us are leaving a legacy that implies bigotry, crassness, and foolishness instead. It is time for us to be re-trained about how we interact over social media. On this episode, I interview Internet Etiquette Master, Darrin Simpson, and get his take on interacting with others on social media.
Have you ever been in a Facebook comment war, over politics, or any other highly-charged social issue? Have you ever watched one go on? We need to stop and ask ourselves some serious questions: What’s the point, really? Are we changing anyone’s mind? It’s time to take a close look at how we interact on the Internet: not ONLY the comments we type, but also the comments we THINK in our heads. Our seen and unseen attitudes toward others are reflections of who we are! You know that saying, “As a man thinketh, so is he.” It’s time to stop being jerks on the Internet.
Could it happen to you? Is anyone susceptible to disordered eating? Hear one woman’s journey of healing and the advice she was given that changed her life. Danielle Leavitt-Quist and I discuss the course of her eating disorder, her self-diagnosis, and where she’s at now. Danielle provides insight on how our critical and exacting expectations weigh down on us, and how we can give ourselves permission to cut our bodies some slack, therefore fostering better compassion toward our physical appearance and overall well-being.
Learn- How to view your body for MAXIMUM self-compassion! I describe the “murder scene” on my stomach, tell about some of my personal heros, and offer a new way to view yourself so that it is SO MUCH EASIER to love your body and to give yourself some slack. You curious? It’s amazing, you’ll love it.
Have you ever felt like you wanted to just go crawl into a hole and die after a SUPER embarrassing moment? In this episode of “Learn Live Love Yourself,” Erika tells us about her journey to being “open” about embarrassing moments, how to do it, and the benefits of just getting those stories off your chest and into the world!
What's goin' on in that brain of yours? Are we really aware of all these important memories we are keeping in our mind? We take our experiences, and then TELL OURSELVES A STORY about those experiences. These stories dictate who we THINK we are, and it is imperative to take note of them. I give tips on how to pinpoint these experiences, and share a few of my personal favorites on my brain bookshelf.
