Women hold only 14% of executive positions in STEM industries, and only 8% of STEM CEOs are women. Research shows that having women in leadership positions is crucial for promoting gender equality and advancing diversity and inclusion in STEM fields. It is also important for innovation and our ability to build more lucrative businesses. The low number of women in leadership positions is a concern for rising talent and today we want to provide you with the right approach to ensure you don’t fall off the career ladder due to lack of a leadership toolkit.
I am excited to interview Priyanka Shinde today to help you accelerate your leadership growth in Tech. Priyanka is a seasoned Silicon Valley tech leader with over 20 years experience in engineering, product management, and program management. She has previously worked at tech giants like Meta and startups like Cruise where she led highly technical teams launch cutting-edge products in the field of Autonomous Vehicles, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR), and Advertising Tech. She received her MBA from North Carolina State University and Masters in Computer Science from Arizona State University. Creating a culture of connection, authenticity, and empathy within organizations is her passion which she has cultivated into an executive coaching career helping leaders accelerate their ambitious goals.
In her free time, you can find Priyanka teaching Bollywood dance fitness classes, running or hiking the beautiful Bay Area trails and spending quality time with her husband and son.

Richa Bansal is a leadership and job search coach with a decade of experience excelling in the corporate world on her own terms. She previously worked with Amazon, leading large-scale programs to help the company hire the best talent on earth, and with Schlumberger, leading a large engineering team to deliver multi-million dollar projects for global oilfield clients like ExxonMobil, Shell and BP.

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS SPECIAL
From being diagnosed with Bipolar disorder to successfully defending her thesis during a global pandemic, Kimberly Fiock (Feeock) has set an example for what’s possible when you find ways to manage your mental health. Kimberly has a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and Psychology from UT Dallas and a Master of Science in Pathology from the University of Iowa. She is currently pursing PhD in Experimental Pathology at the University of Iowa. She works as a graduate assistant for the Iowa NeuroBank Core, a brain tissue and stem cell repository at the University of Iowa. She also serves as a Court Appointed Special Advocate, where she advocates and supports abused and neglected children as they navigate the foster care system.
She runs an interesting IG account called thepathphd to talk all things pathology and mental health.

In this episode , I got to interview Anna Ampaw, a PhD student, an emerging SciCommer and a passionate educator. Growing up in different areas of Canada, she was usually one of the only few "dark-skinned" females in my classes, and then when she got into a science program in university, she saw the same thing. When Ana moved to the US from Germany, she worked as a project management consultant in construction, manufacturing and event planning projects. While she LOVED working in the manufacturing environment, there was one aspect Ana truly hated: her bulky and manly steel toe boots that made it impossible to dress professionally. After years of frustration she decided to solve this issue by designing and manufacturing fashionable steel-toe footwear for women so that they can finally dress like the professionals they are!

She completed optometry school from the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia, and Ph.D. from The University of Sydney, Australia. She currently serves on the Young Investigators of the International Society for Eye Research and the Advocacy and Outreach Committee of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO). Today's story falls in the STEMM category because traditional STEM fields don't include medicine in them. But women in medicine are equally important and are doing phenomenal work and have super inspiring stories! Today we are excited to showcase a story of an exceptional medical doctor.
Our guest today is Dr. Renee Paro, a third-generation Mexican American girl who is the first in her family to ever become a doctor.
Renee has a BS in Biochemistry from Arizona State University, MD from the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine, she did her Pediatric residency (3 years) and Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship at Stanford Children’s Hospital. She is also double board-certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology. Renee is also a non-profit founder, mother of two, a podcaster, a wife and an Instagram influencer with 15k plus following. She inspires women to live their best life possible. With their nonprofit Doctor Vegetable, Renee and her husband are promoting a healthier lifestyle for kids.

Our guest today is Gigi Kreibich, an organic chemistry researcher from the University of Minnesota. Gigi has learned to navigate her research career while living with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and a recent diagnosis of hypophosphatasia. Balancing her life as both the researcher and the patient, Gigi has learned to pursue her passions and tap into her natural skills to achieve her goals. Gigi shares her journey on how she found her current lab, the work she does at Minnesota, and her undergraduate work. She also shares what support systems have been the most beneficial to her, and what she feels is an important aspect of accessibility in science. Gigi also shares her work with a non-profit, open-source genetic research group that aims to identify novel treatments and mutations for rare diseases. Our guest today is "The Fairy God Mother of SciCommers", Christine Liu. Christine is the co-founder of Two-Photon Art, a science-art online store and the founder of The STEM Squad, an online community to support and promote people who identify with a historically marginalized gender.
Currently a 5th year PhD candidate at UC Berkeley in Neuroscience. Christine graduated with a Biology and Psychology double major from the University of Oregon in 2014. Her organizations and outreach work focuses on promoting Science and scientists. Our guest today, Juniper Grimes is a transgender conservation Paleoecologist at Oregon State University. She moved to Oregon from Grapevine, TX, largely in part so that she could transition in a more progressive region of the country. Since moving to Oregon she still had her fair share of obstacles, but despite it all, she persevered. She believes, as more and more queer scientists are respected for their work and are given support, they can continue to break down barriers and challenge the single story of who can be a scientist.

To celebrate Pride Month, we decided to celebrate the stories of LGBT people in STEM fields. Our guest today is a pioneer in advocating for Queers in STEM. With his organization Queers in STEM, Robert Ulrich is demanding for a more inclusive stem community. Rob is currently pursuing his PhD in biology or chemistry at UCLA and is also a writing consultant. His story is filled with challenges and how he overcame them from growing up in a Catholic town in Virginia to creating his own organization to support LGBT community in LA.

Our guest today, Sonal Bhadane is a Medical Physicist and works in the radiation therapy industry. When she is not saving lives from cancer, she is a mother to a 2-year-old son. She grew up in India & Canada and now lives in Middleborough, UK.
Her story is about her experiences of being an immigrant as a teenager, how she pivoted from being a radiation therapist to following her curiosity to go behind the scenes on how these machines work. She has MSc Biomedical Physics, BSc Medical Radiation Science and a Diploma in Radiation Therapy. She talks about how she manages to be a mom in STEM and being a superstar at work! Our guest today is working really hard to cure cancer with Nanotechnology. Joy Wolfram is the Lead at Mayo Clinic's Nanomedicine and Extracellular Vesicles Lab. Our guest today is Lakshmi Ramachandran completed her PhD in cell and molecular biology at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, SUNY Buffalo. She passionately worked in drug discovery before facing some personal struggles, taking a break from science and then coming back after 2 yrs. Re-entry was more challenging then she expected and this forced her in the direction of advocating for women in STEM.
