In this episode of Beyond the Basics Health Academy, Dr. Meaghan discusses the need for sunlight. This conversation stems not only from really getting into the research of the benefits of Vitamin D, but also the conversation that we need to have that it is vital to get enough sunlight exposure.
Dr. Meaghan talks throughout the podcast about the vital role of vitamin D and the need for sunlight exposure. Vitamin D is an essential fat-soluble vitamin that plays a crucial role in maintaining calcium balance, promoting bone health, preventing falls and fractures, and supporting overall well-being. However, the significance of vitamin D extends far beyond bone health, with research linking it to various conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, cancer, autoimmune and infectious diseases, among others.
25-Vitamin D deficiency has risen significantly in recent times and is higher in certain populations and is associated with increased mortality rates, infections, and a range of diseases.
Mounting evidence suggests that vitamin D deficiency may be linked to chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease and cancer. We explore the findings of a study that analyzed vitamin D levels in the US population, revealing a high prevalence of deficiency, particularly among minority groups. These findings underline the importance of maintaining healthy vitamin D levels.
The episode emphasizes the significance of sunlight exposure in vitamin D synthesis, noting that about 50% to 90% of vitamin D is absorbed through the skin via sunlight. However, several factors, including season, time of day, latitude, altitude, air pollution, and skin pigmentation, influence sun-induced vitamin D synthesis. We address the need for sensible sun exposure recommendations, advocating for approximately 20 minutes of daily sunshine with over 40% of the skin exposed.
Dr Meaghan also explores recent research from the University of South Australia, which establishes a strong association between vitamin D deficiency and premature death and that WHO states that 340,000 Americans die each year due to not enough sun exposure.
Join us in this episode of Beyond the Basics Health Academy to gain valuable insights into the vital role of vitamin D and the importance of embracing sunlight exposure for overall health and well-being.

**Common Cold (Homeopathy)**
Options for utilizing homeopathics for cold and flu symptoms
Arsenicum album
A person who has frequent colds, sore throats, and chest problems—with burning pain and feelings of weakness, restlessness, and anxiety—may benefit from this remedy. The person’s head may feel hot while the rest of the body is cold, and problems can be worse near midnight. The nose often feels stopped up, and the person may sneeze repeatedly, without relief. White, thick, burning mucus may be produced.
Belladonna
This remedy relieves high fever of sudden onset with sweating.
Euphrasia
Red, watery, irritated eyes, frequent sneezing, and a mild, clear nasal discharge suggests a need for this remedy. The person may cough from irritation and from phlegm collecting in the throat. Symptoms can be worse at night, and the person tends to feel better from eating and lying down.
Natrum muriaticum
Colds with clear nasal discharge like egg-white, sneezing (which is often worse in the morning), headache, and a diminished sense of smell or taste may respond to this remedy. The person may develop cold sores around the mouth, and the lips can be chapped and cracked.
Nux vomica
This relieves spasmodic sneezing in the morning, with a dry nose during the night.
Pulsatilla
This remedy relieves non-irritant yellowish nasal discharge with a dry nose at night that becomes runny during the day, and loss of smell and taste.
Other Remedies
Aconitum napellus
This remedy relieves high fever of sudden onset, with a hot face and dry skin, especially after exposure to intense cold.
Allium cepa
This relieves spasmodic sneezing and runny nose with an irritating, watery discharge, improved by fresh air.
Baryta carbonica
This remedy is indicated for people who frequently catch colds from getting chilled. A runny nose and swollen upper lip, swollen lymph nodes, tonsils, and adenoids are typical symptoms. This remedy is often helpful to children who are bashful and slow to develop.
Dulcamara
When a person comes down with a cold after getting wet and chilled, or if colds come on when the weather changes, this remedy should come to mind. A stopped-up nose and face pain are likely. A person who needs Dulcamara also tends to have allergies.
Ferrum phosphoricum
This remedy relieves low-grade fever with weakness and tendency to nosebleeds and earaches.
Gelsemium
Lethargy and aching, with headache and droopy eyes, often indicate this remedy. Fever and chills run up and down the spine, and heat or pressure may be felt in the face and nose. A person who needs Gelsemium often trembles and is shaky, or feels extremely dull. This remedy is often helpful for colds that come on in hot weather.
Hydrastis canadensis
This remedy relieves thick nasal discharge that irritates the throat.
Kali bichromicum
This helps relieve thick, greenish, irritating nasal discharge.
Kali iodatum
This remedy relieves runny nose with acrid watery discharge, with pain at the base of the nose.
Kali muriaticum
This helps relieve ear congestion with cracking sounds in the ear, worsened by the change in pressure.
Mercurius solubilis
A person who needs this remedy is extremely sensitive to temperatures, and experiences night sweats and drooling during sleep. Swollen lymph nodes and bad breath are other indications. The person’s nose may feel raw, and the tonsils or ears often become infected.
Phosphorus
A person whose colds go easily to the chest often responds to this remedy. One nostril may be blocked while the other runs. Hoarseness, laryngitis, and nosebleeds are other likely symptoms. The person often is thirsty for cold drinks and feels better from massage. People who need this remedy often feel weak, “spaced out,” and anxious or fearful when ill.
Rhus toxicodendron
If a cold begins with stiffness and body aches, especially during cool damp weather or weather changes, and leads to nasal congestion or sore throat, this remedy should come to mind. The person feels extremely restless and often paces or fidget. Warmth and motion bring relief, both physically and mentally.
Sulphur iodatum
This remedy relieves lingering symptoms (cough, nasal congestion) after a severe cold or flu.

“We have so much capacity to meet the challenges of our time with strength and wisdom,” says Rhonda Magee, law professor and author of The Inner Work of Racial Justice. Despite growing up as a black woman in America during the civil rights era, Rhonda was always awed by her grandmother’s ability to remain optimistic in the face of adversity. Inspired by her grandmother’s spirit, Rhonda began to implement similar practices into her own life, including mindfulness. As a law professor and author, Rhonda uses the practice of mindfulness to challenge the system and provide solutions on how to tackle social issues.
According to Rhonda, in a society where bias, racism, and systemic injustices are deeply ingrained, healing is a continuous process. Because conflict causes mass division, most people’s instincts are to find safety among people who are similar and place the blame on others. In her book, Rhonda highlights inner work as an essential component to problem solving. Through the practice of mindfulness, Rhonda explains that we are able to increase our emotional intelligence and recognize our own biases because we are given space to be attentive to our thoughts and feelings. After we have dismantled our own barriers, we can heal generational traumas and connect with people of all backgrounds.
Tune into this week’s episode of Beyond the Basics Health Academy to understand why Rhonda Magee believes mindfulness is the roadmap to a more peaceful world. Learn how to implement daily doses of mindfulness in order to calm your fears and allow you to exercise the highest level of compassion towards yourself and others.
Quotes
• “We don't want to take all our biases about what we know into the world because learning opportunities are great opportunities to integrate what we know with what others know.” (13:46-13:59)
• “When we talk about race and racism, the traditional way of learning just bombards us with data, history, statistics, new words and concepts. It's important to have this information and it's important to think about the scholarly ways in which these ideas have been articulated. All those analyses are important to encounter and grapple with, but we're social and emotional and relational human beings in learning spaces.” (14:43-15:27)
• “All of this effort to understand race and racism and to understand any of our challenges is strengthened by being grounded.” (20:55-21:05)
• “Mindfulness is inviting this ability of growing up into the kinds of human beings who can face our fears, look beneath the rage and create some space and deeper capacity to navigate waters that are choppy.” (35:13-35:44)
• "We can resolve our conflicts without violence, but we have to agree to bring some kind of mindfulness to the processes by which we participate in the systems.” (36:36-36:49)
• “We have so much capacity to meet the challenges of our time with strength and wisdom.” (43:03-43:10)

Your host Dr. Meaghan Kirschling and special guest Dr. Ron Kirschling are back for another book club episode! In this week’s book club, Meaghan and Ron break down Divided Mind by John E. Sarno. The book explores the connection between the mind and body and how this inextricable bond impacts our overall health.
The author, an orthopedist, believes there are other explanations for psychosomatic physical pain that aren't related to aging. Dr. Sarno explains that these pains are usually induced by repressed, unconscious emotions. He believes that emotions from our past can trigger many diseases such as fibromyalgia. Throughout his years of research, Dr. Sarno has found that continued suffering is related to patients’ reticence to truly accept the origin of their pain. He draws the conclusion that a more in-depth acknowledgement of our emotions and their source can often alleviate symptoms.
Tune into this week’s episode of Beyond the Basics Health Academy for a detailed summary of Divided Mind. Learn how our minds and bodies are interconnected, why it is important for medicine to focus on wellness rather than illness, and how our emotions play a vital role in our everyday physical experiences.
Quotes
• “The real dichotomy we face in health care is whether we are going to concentrate on illness or wellness.” (06:30-6:42)
• “We are really getting into this situation where we are not treating people holistically; instead, we are being conditioned to treat diseases.” (07:54-08:00)
• “In general, if there is something you are trying to resist or there's something you're not dealing with, that will continue to persist.” (23:26- 23:31)
• “When there is stress and loss of control, we do see an increase in health conditions across the board.” (35:09-35:18)

Dr. David Steenblock is one of the world’s leading stem cell experts, specializing in the treatment of ALS, Cerebral Palsy and a wide range of other degenerative diseases. Over the course of his 40-year career, Dr. Steenblock has centered his practice around regenerative medicine, which focuses on matching therapies and treatments to an individual’s unique biochemical and genetic needs. Dr. Steenblock is particularly renowned for his work with stem cell treatments, and although these treatments are vastly underutilized, he has seen great success in thousands of his patients.
While there are many ways that you can retrieve stem cells, Dr. Steenblock prefers to use nutrient dense bone marrow stem cells, which he believes heal the body best. In one of his cases, a patient who had lost their vision entirely regained eyesight a few weeks after treatment. However, despite incredible successes such as this one, Dr. Steenblock still warns his patients about potential setbacks. Something as simple as a small infection can negate all progress that has been made. In order to see the best results, it is essential to follow your doctor’s orders and avoid situations that could potentially cause trauma to your body.
Join host Meaghan Kirschling on this week’s episode of Beyond the Basics Health Academy for a conversation with Dr. David Steenblock about the restorative power of stem cells. Learn more about what they are, how they are used and why Dr. Steenblock believes they are the biggest miracle in modern medicine.
Quotes
• “If you don't have any obstructions to the growth of your stem cells, you will see good results.” (06:40- 06:48)
• “It may be true that fat has more stem cells, but they dont heal the body as well as stem cells from bone marrow do.” (20:00-20:05) • “The number one way to help stem cells is to get rid of all infections.” (29:00-29:04) Links

“The chemical structure that chemists and pharmacists get to create the drugs that we use today are from nature. These are the chemicals in plants, these are the essential oils” says Dr. Eric Zielinkski, author of The Essential Oil Apothecary. Dr. Zielinski explains that many people are too quick to write off essential oils as pseudoscience, when there is actually an abundance of scientific evidence proving that they are a key contributor to our health and wellbeing.
Unfortunately, there has been widespread misinformation regarding essential oils and their proper use in recent years. Because MLMs have sent out thousands of people who, despite being well-intentioned, are not in the medical or aromatherapy fields, essential oils have been largely discredited. However, it is important to recognize that essential oils actually serve as the foundation of most modern-day medicines! Dr. Zielinski’s mission is to help people explore the ways in which essential oils can alleviate symptoms of everything from stress to inflammation to chronic diseases and more to better their day-to-day lives.
Tune into this week’s episode of Beyond the Basics Health Academy for a conversation with Dr. Eric Zielinski about the healing powers contained within essential oils. Learn about the common myths surrounding essential oils, how they positively impact the brain, and how to safely and effectively use them in your everyday life.
Quotes
• “The chemical structure that chemists and pharmacists get to create the drugs that we use today are from nature….These are the chemicals in plants, these are the essential oils.” (5:04-5:18)
• “A lack of bacteria creates a poorly developed immune system, which puts your brain at risk for inflammation.” (9:42-9:50)
• “These synthetic fragrances have been linked to autoimmunity and, of course, allergies, but at what cost?” (13:50-13:58)
• “Some research studies have...proven that post-operative patients that have a view of nature heal quicker and get out of the hospital versus someone that has a window view of the garage.” (15:21-15:35)
• “Out of all of the essential oils manufactured on the planet, 50% are used by the food and flavor industry. You are consuming essential oils every day in microdoses.” (30:19-30:35)
• “Low acetylcholine in the brain is the hallmark of Alzheimer’s and Dementia.” (42:18-42:21)

“Let food be your medicine,” says Cathy Moore, PA-C, a Physician’s Assistant at One Agora Integrative Health. Cathy explains that many of us have started treating food as a passing need rather than a vital fuel. We often eat on the go and may not even remember what we ate for lunch by the time we’re eating dinner! This approach critically disrupts our gut health, since we aren’t taking the time to rest and digest before, during and after each meal.
Rather than rushing through meals, Cathy suggests that we instead be intentional about what we eat and how we eat it. By taking deep breaths before starting a meal, for example, we activate our parasympathetic nervous system, prepping our bodies to better digest our food. An increase in mindfulness around food also allows us to establish a better relationship with what we’re eating, promoting an attitude of gratefulness rather than the fear that so often surrounds restrictive diets.
Tune into this week’s episode of Beyond the Basics Health Academy for a conversation with Cathy Moore about digestive health. Learn about the differences between healthy and harmful bacteria, the strategies you can use to retrain your taste buds, and how best to balance between your emotional and nutritional worlds. Improving your gut health is not an impossible feat! Join Cathy and host Meaghan Kirschling for some simple steps you can take to kickstart the journey towards a balanced microbiome.
Quotes
• “If you’re going to sit down for a meal, it’s important to take some time and look at your plate, just connect and be intentional with what you’re eating instead of eating emotionally. Because most of us are eating out of emotional needs that haven’t been met. So, when you’re intentional with what you’re eating, you’re looking at your plate, you’re sending gratitude and thankfulness into those foods, which really actually brings good frequencies into that food and helps with the structure of the food.” (4:25-4:52)
• “I think every meal is a chance to heal the body. It’s either that food is going to bring life-giving frequencies and health and life into our body or it’s going to bring cellular death.” (5:39-5:47)
• “We have the good, healthy bacteria that’s really necessary to be able to regulate and govern over our immune system function. And you want to have plenty of what’s called acromancia. I call them the ABCs: acromancia, bifidobacterium, and clostridia. Those are our main healthy, good bacteria that we really need in balance, and when those have too much, then that causes problems, but when there’s not enough, the immune system is really suppressed and low.” (18:48-19:17)
• “Oftentimes, patients will feel like, ‘Gosh, I’m just anxious all the time. I’m so nervous.’ And you think about...what’s going on in their brain, when actually we should be thinking, ‘What’s going on in their gut?’” (22:33-22:45)
• “Let food be your medicine.” (26:46-26:48)

“The average person checks their cellphone 160 times a day,” says Edmund McCormick, author of Happiness Power: How to unleash your power and live a more joyful life. “If you didn’t have a cellphone, what would you do with those 160 moments?” Edmund explains to our listeners that he actually got rid of his cellphone a few years back, after noticing how much time the people around him were spending on their devices, completely unaware of their surroundings. Now, he is only reachable by landline and much happier because of it!
Edmund decided to do a deeper dive into the power of happiness after reading the 2020 World Happiness Report, which indicates that, on average, US citizens are the least happy they’ve been in 20 years. This finding piqued Edmund’s interest, and he ultimately wrote a book detailing his findings, including 50 powers that typically accompany an increase in happiness.
Tune into this week’s episode of Beyond the Basics Health Academy for a conversation with Edmund about happiness and how to find it. Learn about the many powers that come with happiness, how to cultivate a glass-half-full mentality, and why self-love and positive self-talk are key to finding long-term contentment.
Quotes
• “Happiness gives us things that people who are not happy don’t have. And that’s where the title Happiness Power came from because there’s a great deal of power if you are happy and content in life. Those that are happier tend to earn more money, they tend to get promotions, they tend to have a greater circle of friends, and so on.” (2:23-2:51)
• “I wound up with the conclusion that you really can’t find happiness directly. It will elude you….How then do you find happiness? You find it indirectly. You find it by practicing self-kindness, by looking for your purpose in life...having more family and friends and building that circle builds our happiness, showing gratitude even for the smallest things increases our happiness, and also giving increases happiness.” (3:10-4:09)
• “The average person checks his cellphone 160 times a day. If you didn’t have a cellphone, what would you do with those 160 moments?” (8:17-8:25)
• “It’s not the material things that make you happy. It’s how you feel about the material things….You could be acquiring the best automobile and then after a week or two the smell wears away and you think, ‘What’s next?’ Or you could be getting a raise, and you’re so excited about that raise, and then a month later, gee, you deserve another one. So, it’s your mindset that’s creating your happiness, it’s what’s inside you.” (20:58-21:47)
• “Use a mantra, meaning repeating to yourself the same few positive words about yourself….Just take 45 seconds to a minute to do that when you get up in the morning or if you’re feeling a little down in the afternoon. Just say it to yourself, don’t say it outloud, and you will find that in several weeks, you’re going to see that the light gets brighter, the curtain lifts, and things look better! All of a sudden, that half empty glass is now looking like it’s half full.” (29:02-29:55)

To educate those who are suffering, Rubino wrote the book Mold Medic. In detail, Rubino advises readers on how to choose a mold remediation company and the exact processes that companies should be using. He also explains how to recover from mold-related illnesses. His message is perfect for those interested in achieving and maintaining robust health. Rubino’s focus is not just on removing cosmetic damage resulting from mold. It’s on removing all traces of mold, the spores they leave behind and the toxins produced by the mold. He’s discovered that a person suffering from hypersensitivity to mold needs all three types of decontamination to regain their health.
In one home or business after another where mold was supposedly eliminated, Rubino found the cause of continuing mold-related illness: conventional mold remediators are only doing part of the job. He intends to correct this situation.
Rubino and his company - All American Restoration - have been featured in USA Today, NJBiz, Reader’s Digest, New Jersey Monthly, and Digital Trends. He was also selected as a speaker for the Spring 2020 Indoor Air Quality Association Meeting and Expo.
Rubino received a Bachelor of Science degree in 2008 and is a council-certified microbial remediator from the American Council for Accredited Certification and a New York State Department of Labor Remediation Contractor. He has spent the past seven years involved in construction and remediating mold contamination.
Thanks so much, Michael, for coming on the show to tackles these and many more topics during our discussion about mold and mycotoxins.

In this episode of BTBHA, Dr. Meaghan talks to Dr. Eric Balcalvage and Dr. Kelly Halderman about their new book "The Thyroid Debacle". According to the American Thyroid Association, an estimated 20 million Americans have some form of thyroid disease, which causes symptoms such as extreme fatigue, depression, forgetfulness, weight gain, and hair loss. If thyroid conditions go undiagnosed, those patients - the vast majority of them women - may be at risk for cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, and infertility. Unfortunately, conventional Western medicine views thyroid conditions as solely a glandular problem, and doctors are taught to employ a simplistic model of testing TSH and T4 to evaluate patients’ thyroid health. By the time a true glandular disorder presents itself, many prior opportunities to address the condition have been missed. In The Thyroid Debacle, Eric Balcavage, DC, and Kelly Halderman, MD, explore thyroid disorders from a functional medicine perspective, looking to create a paradigm shift in how doctors and patients understand and approach thyroid physiology. They argue that hypothyroidism is more commonly a systemic cellular event and not a localized glandular problem, as is often presumed, and that the key is to look at root causes rather than attempt to mask symptoms with pills. Evaluating the activators of cellular hypothyroidism requires an exploration into the various factors that contribute to the cell danger response - an evolutionary mechanism by which cells and organisms attempt to protect themselves from harm triggered by chemical, physical, or biological threats - as well as tools to reverse it. In this book, you will learn: * what causes hypothyroid symptoms and thyroid gland dysfunction * why your doctors are failing you with an outdated model of treating thyroid dysfunction * what common factors contribute to cellular hypothyroidism, including physical, chemical, emotional, and microbial stressors * how to overcome chronic hypothyroid symptoms
This revolutionary new approach will help those affected by thyroid disorders make informed decisions with their doctor and take back control of their health. Click here to pre-order The Thyroid Debacle!

In this episode of BTBHA, Dr. Meaghan sits down and talks about the importance of nasal breathing with Nicholas Michalak, the founder of Somnifix.
Many of us are mouth breathers at night. Not only does this increase the chances of sleep apnea and snoring, but it can also lead to other health problems. Studies have shown that nose breathing provides many benefits that improve sleep, such as: * Parasympathetic activation. This is also known as the relaxation response and it helps sleepers achieve and maintain deep sleep. * Increased nitric oxide production. This helps to improve immunity and kill bacteria in airborne particles. It helps to reduce blood pressure by acting as a vasodilator of blood vessels. * Optimized carbon dioxide-oxygen exchange through its slower, regulated cadence. * Reduced discomforts caused by mouth breathing such as dry mouth, sore throat, or nasal congestion.
You can learn more and purchase Somnifix from their website at www.somnifix.com

Today we welcome Andrea Wildenthal Hanson to the show. She is a speaker, bestselling author, and master certified life coach. Diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2000, Andrea empowers people to become their own wellness hero, instead of the victim of a disease. Andrea combines her experience from five years of life coaching and 16+ years of living with MS to teach her audience how to create a customized approach to health that includes life balance, mindset tune-ups, and stress management so that they can feel in control of a life they love.
Andrea Hanson has two bookS: 1. "Live Your Life, Not Your Diagnosis: How to Manage Stress and Live Well With Multiple Sclerosis" - written for people newly diagnosed with MS (Applicable to anything, though). It talks about the major ah-ha's that she had in my own health care and how to manage stress- for good - because stress management is so important for MS. This is about the deep work you can do - thought work and mindset shifts - to get you to shed a huge layer of everyday stress. 2. "Stop Carrying the Weight of Your MS - The Art of Losing Weight, Healing Your Body, and Soothing Your MS"- teaches the reader how to navigate the relatively new world of health-hacking and extreme diets to stay well. It shows them how to be their own "wellness hero" and find what works for them (we're all different), and to stop being confused about conflicting advise on what to eat and how to live. Dr. Meaghan and Dr. Ron Kirschling are back for the third part of our book club for Food Politics by Marion Nestle.
Our discussion includes the following chapters in the book
More information about the book Food Politics:
"We all witness, in advertising and on supermarket shelves, the fierce competition for our food dollars. In this engrossing exposé, Marion Nestle goes behind the scenes to reveal how the competition really works and how it affects our health. The abundance of food in the United States--enough calories to meet the needs of every man, woman, and child twice over--has a downside. Our over-efficient food industry must do everything possible to persuade people to eat more--more food, more often, and in larger portions--no matter what it does to waistlines or well-being. Like manufacturing cigarettes or building weapons, making food is big business. Food companies in 2000 generated nearly 900 billion in sales. They have stakeholders to please, shareholders to satisfy, and government regulations to deal with. It is nevertheless shocking to learn precisely how food companies lobby officials, co-opt experts, and expand sales by marketing to children, members of minority groups, and people in developing countries. We learn that the food industry plays politics as well as or better than other industries, not least because so much of its activity takes place outside the public view. Editor of the 1988 Surgeon General's Report on Nutrition and Health, Nestle is uniquely qualified to lead us through the maze of food industry interests and influences. She vividly illustrates food politics in action: watered-down government dietary advice, schools pushing soft drinks, diet supplements promoted as if they were First Amendment rights. When it comes to the mass production and consumption of food, strategic decisions are driven by economics--not science, not common sense, and certainly not health. No wonder most of us are thoroughly confused about what to eat to stay healthy. An accessible and balanced account, Food Politics will forever change the way we respond to food industry marketing practices. By explaining how much the food industry influences government nutrition policies and how cleverly it links its interests to those of nutrition experts, this path-breaking book helps us understand more clearly than ever before what we eat and why."

Dr. Mary Wingo is here to further talk about the social issues of our time that have the biggest impact on our health: the uncontrolled stress of modern life and its devastating effects on our bodies and our communities
Human stress costs our communities trillions of dollars every year. In addition, millions of people die prematurely, or suffer disability needlessly because of preventable exposure to stress.
She also wants to tell you about the 20 years it took her to "really" understand human stress, and how she was initially reluctant to write her book covering the social, political, and economic implications of stress in the modern world.
Her book, The Impact of the Human Stress Response, is a humanitarian work intended to educate the public worldwide about the true causes and costs of preventable human stress. The study of stress and adaptation is probably the most complicated and fascinating field in science. After more than a hundred years of study, most scientists are still mystified by the mechanisms of human adaptation, so this book is of great importance to the general public and will transform many, many lives.
Mary Wingo has been a permanent resident in Ecuador for 2 years. She trained as a Ph.D. scientist and is a business person originally from the United States.
Today she is coming back on the show to talk specifically about two of the five major causes of stress in the modernized world (the loss of social capital and social equality). The five stressors are:
The loss of working mental capacity
The loss of social capital
The loss of social equality
The depletion of the microbiome
Chemical stress
I can't thank her enough for coming back on the show and sharing her knowledge and expertise. This is a wonderful conversation that I am glad that we were able to have to bring awareness to the stress of social inequality.

Today we sit down and talk to Lea Ann Mallet to speak about the power of our actions.
Here is a little more about her and her journey in her words:
"I am a lifelong activist, midlife mom and someone who has discovered a creative and life-transforming renaissance at the age of 50! I am living proof that delving into self-knowledge and development can truly change our lives and the way we experience and live them.
My extraordinary life has arced from being a direct action wilderness activist (sitting 80 feet up in a tree for 3 days to protest clearcut logging in ancient forests in British Columbia and leading there months protests in northern Ontario to protect wild places) to successfully leading two charities as Executive Director and then to motherhood in my 40s and now entrepreneurship! It has been a wild, beautiful ride.
I left my successful non-profit leadership career three years ago to spend more time with my children (Noah, now 8 and Ruby, 6) and to create a new career as a personal leadership coach and speaker. I have melded my high-octane energy as an activist with my coaching. I am a huge action catalyst for my clients, who range the spectrum from entrepreneurs to activists, all seeking to create their biggest impact while leading healthy and happy lives. I have also bloomed creatively in the past year as a photographer and writer and have a blog called "Becoming Undomesticated" that tells stories of love, life, and beauty in suburbia. (https://leaannmallett.exposure.co) For me, deeply exploring myself through coaching and creative pursuits over the last three years was life changing. I had lost myself in motherhood and my career transition and had to find my way in a very new landscape. I am now healthier and happier than I have ever been, and that comes from a deep sense of knowing who I am and what I want. I am also a much better mom because I have deep self-compassion for the challenges of motherhood. My children are my frontline teachers in what I most need to learn - patience, addressing the anger that carried so much of my activism, taking care of myself and slowing down to appreciate the present. Entering motherhood at 42 was a huge shock to me! I thought I could handle anything, and I had a lot to learn."
She talks about her work as activist to realize the effect that her actions can have on her life and her community.

In Mary's analysis, preventable human stress leads to (many, many) millions of unnecessary death every year. Furthermore, the economic costs of chemical, physical, and psychological human stress world-wide are well into the multiple trillions of dollars of losses every year.

Alexis’ objective is to:
She shares with us the 5 rules for modern day relationships.
Set clear boundaries It is imperative to set clear boundaries in your relationships to ensure that you are being treated with the utmost respect. Without identifying those parameters, people will treat you the way they percieve is appropriate.
Trust your inner voice God speaks to us. He shows us signs. He reveals things to us. Our intuition is there for a reason- use it. Trust your instinct.
Don't believe the hype Every woman needs to have the ability to have their own money, housing and vehicle. Ensure you have established your credit so that if you needed to get your own things today, you can.
Don't be afraid to walk away If the relationship is not empowering you to become a better and not inspiring you to do better, thn it maybe something you need to leave behind. Value yourself enough to know when something is not being fruitful and move on with your life.
Identify quality relationships and people Character breeds quality. You deserve to surround yourself by quality people and relationships that fulfill you.
We dive into the fact in this podcast that
IF IT DOESN'T SERVE YOU, THEN DON'T SERVE IT.
