The Dr. Smith Show describes the biology of medicine and how the body functions in a non-patronizing way that everyone can understand.
This week I examine how cells divide, from the growth signal that initiates division to the actual process of a single cell dividing into two fully functional cells.
I also look at how the process of cell division is tightly regulated and how the cell reacts to issues during division.
Finally, I delve into how cell division can go wrong and how cancer cells actually take advantage of imperfections in cell division to make them resistant to your bodies immune system and chemotherapeutic drugs.

I introduce the cell and its contents. I talk about genes, which provide the code to make the proteins.... which do pretty much everything in the cell.
I also start to delve into the darker side of cell biology and examine what happens when things in the cell go awry and how this can lead to cancer and other diseases.
Oh and I also attempt to explain what stem cells and DNA are.... I feel like no one ever does that....
