In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 82 of Owner Stories with Harv from Toronto, Canada. For Harv it all started at around 13 years of age when his mum bought him an 80’s style Porsche print of a Guards Red 911, from that point on Harv knew he wanted one. The Porsche print hangs in his garage today. Harv is a filmmaker and Executive Creative director and Artist. He is a collector of many things especially vintage skateboard decks.

Harv, like most of us, didn’t get his first Porsche until later in life. Harv mentions ‘that driving everything but a Porsche’ was in a way the catalyst for getting one. He has owned American and Japanese cars along the way, cars he liked but not one that he really wanted. What Harv always wanted was a 911 but moving around a lot as a Filmmaker meant it didn’t happen until recently.

During the pandemic his interest pique and although he missed out on a couple of 911s he eventually found the right one. At the end of 2020 Harv purchased his first 911, a 1983 911SC in Platinum Metallic a ROW version sold in Germany in 1983. A car he wanted since a kid and a very special and fully documented example. Harv hasn’t stopped there. He has now decided to go all in and has now become a Porsche hot rod builder. Harv is building 911 STs on original long hood bodies under his new venture – ‘History Projects’. Harv describes it as his version of what a modern day 911 should feel like.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 81 of Owner Stories with Wyatt from Tulsa, Oklahoma in the U.S. Wyatt’s first memory of Porsche is from the 2006 movie ‘Cars’ and the Porsche named ‘Sally’. His dad at the time explained to him that the engine was in the rear which he thought was cool. This will set the scene for you. Wyatt is the youngest owner to date to be on Owner Stories.

Wyatt’s passion and love of cars began at an early age and thanks to his dad Wyatt knows how to work on cars. He likes classics and project cars. Wyatt sees the value where others may not. His first car was a 1992 Volvo 740 station wagon, it was a cheap car, a beater but allowed Wyatt to drive which he loves doing. After the Volvo came a ‘95 BMW 318is, a car he still owns. Wyatt was drawn to Porsche by its shape, especially the 944 and 928, so in 2017 he started searching on Craigslist. The first 944 he found he walked away from but not the second. At 19 Wyatt purchased his first Porsche a ‘95 944 in white with manual transmission.

Other cars followed including a ’74 BMW 2002, his dad’s car which Wyatt really like driving, a cheap ’87 BMW E30 325e, 1977 BMW E21 320i and a very slow 83’ Mercedes 240D. In 2019 Wyatt purchased a new 124 Abarth spider with his first pay from working on airplanes. A year later Wyatt purchased another new car, a 2020 Challenger GT. The challenger was a comfortable car, but Wyatt really wanted a sportscar. In 2022 he traded the Challenger for his second Porsche, a 2008 987 Cayman S in manual. Throughout Wyatts owners story his passion and love of cars shines through. He shows that you can just ‘buy and drive’ without having to spend a lot of money.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 80 of Owner Stories with Miguel from San Francisco in the U.S. Growing up in the Bay Area in California Miguel was immersed in car culture. Although he saw a lot of cars, he didn’t see a lot of Porsches. Miguel was around more of the muscle cars of the time, including Mustangs. His first encounter with Porsche was when he was in High School in the early ‘80’s. He was driving his first car, a VW rabbit, and passed an auto shop with Porsches and Mercedes – he had to go back and take a second look.

Miguel’s first experience in a Porsche was when he was taken for a drive in a 911SC, a car he found raw and aggressive. To date, Miguel has owned over 40 cars and 35 motorcycles. Not only that he has held three racing licenses. Some of his standout cars along the way include the VW rabbit, hot-rodded Karmann Ghia, Datsun roadster, Mercedes 500E, BMW 2800, BMW M5, Mercedes C63-P31 package, Mazda Miata NA and his first Porsche, a 1985 911 Carrera. Miguel’s 1967 Datsun roadster was the car that introduced him to track days and racing. Miguel has a long history in the Northern California motorsports scene.

Miguel got back into Porsche in 2019. His current Porsche is a 2008 997 Turbo Tiptronic. This is a car which he uses regularly as track weapon, long distance tourer and as a daily driver on the streets of San Francisco. As you will hear, Miguel loves to modify his cars. His current 911 Turbo is no exception, it now has modified suspension for track usage among other enhancements. Miguel mentions he likes to add his mods incrementally so he can measure the changes on the track. In saying that his 997.1 Turbo is now well sorted.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 79 of Owner Stories with Tyler from Minneapolis in the U.S. Having always loved sports cars, Tyler only got into Porsche quite recently. A fond memory of a ‘sports car’ was his dads brand new red Chevy Cavalier. A car that Tyler though was the ‘coolest thing at the time’. This is also the car his dad taught him how to drive stick in - a car Tyler loved.

Tyler only started thinking about Porsche around 2018 after seeing a very cool ‘80’s Guards Red 911 on a business trip. This is not to say he never appreciated the lines and the iconic shape before then - he did. After attending an auction in 2019 (to look at Mazda Miatas) Tyler realised that it was possible to get a sports car for good money. In fact, some Miatas were even getting closer to Porsche world prices. This got Tyler thinking and searching.

After enjoying his dads Cavalier Tyler owned sensible cars including Chevys and Hondas. In early 2020 the time felt right to get a ‘fun car on the side” this time Tyler decided to extend his search to Porsche and found one quite quickly. He went to view a 2001 Lapis Blue 986 Boxster and after the test drive he knew this was the car. A car he felt at one with.

Tyler’s Porsche journey move forward quickly. In 2021, he decided that the ‘fun car needed a rear seat’ for all the family to enjoy - his wife agreed. Tyler started the search for his first 911. The one to catch Tyler’s attention was the Millennium Edition 996, a car his wife was not sold on. Moving forward the 997 generation became an option and Tyler new what he wanted and started searching. Not long after he found one with every option on his list. His second Porsche is a ‘07 911 Carrera in black, manual with sand beige interior. The Honda Civic is gone, the Boxster is now up for sale and Tyler and his family are loving their Porsche 911.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 78 of Owner Stories with Freddie from Toronto, Canada. Freddie started noticing Porsches from a young age. He had the poster on the wall of the iconic 930 Turbo and its whale tail. He also remembers a 964 commercial shown on Canadian TV in the ‘90s showcasing all the unique Porsche 911 colours of the time.

Freddie like most of us didn’t start with a Porsche, he was heavily into Hondas and still owns one today. His first car was a 1990 Honda CRX Si a car he modified and made just that little bit better. Freddie mentions early on that he is a ‘90s guy and pretty much all the cars he has owned are from the 1990s and later. So, after the CRX the cars that followed included many Hondas, BMWs, Toyotas, Acura’s and even a Lexus. Freddie’s third Honda CRX purchased in 2007 he still owns and sits under a cover in his garage.

Apart from his current four Porsches Freddie also has a couple of daily drivers. These include a BMW F80 M3 and a E90 335i as well as his ‘winter daily’ a Volkswagen Sportwagon. As you can see Freddie loves his cars. Now for the Porsches. The first 911 came in 2002 when Freddie and his wife purchased a brand new 911 - a 996 Carrera 2, white on tan with aero package. A big jump from the Hondas and Freddie recalls that at the time he and his wife felt like they were ‘driving the fastest car in the world.’ A fun car, but after 6 years of ownership Freddie wanted something more. A bigger jump followed in 2008 when Freddie purchased one of the best 911s – a 2007 997 GT3RS in Orange. A car Freddie still owns.

Other Porsches owned which have now left the garage include a ’91 964 911 Turbo, 997.1 Turbo, a 1990 964 C4. Oh, and the one he almost forgot to mention the 2010 low mileage GT3. So apart from the 997 GT3 RS what completes Freddie current line-up? Well, that would be a 997.1 Carrera 2S, a well sorted 964 Carrera 4 in the rare shade of Baltic Blue metallic as well as his 911 (991.2) GT3 Touring in Chalk.

Freddie remains humble and acknowledges everything has just come together well - especially when his day job overlaps with his Porsche passion. He has a soft spot for 964’s but just remember to ask two key questions before purchase – ‘is it leaking oil and does the Aircon work?’

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 77 of Owner Stories with Mick from Hampshire in the UK. Mick has fond memories of attending Brands Hatch Circuit in the UK with his dad and brother. One time in the ‘80s, the Porsche 917K lemans cars were brought to the Circuit. This is where Mick fell in love with the Steve McQueen long tail 917K. A memory he will never forget, seeing and hearing the Porsche 917 on track.

After getting his license Mick said a lot cars along the way were ‘shit boxes’. Although, there were a couple of memorable cars, these included a MK2 VW Golf – ‘not the best example but a fun car to drive’. Another was the black with gold wheels ‘02 Subaru WRX STI Impreza, a car his dad previously owned. During lockdown in the UK the WRX was sold and couple of electric cars followed. These included a VW ID3 and his current electric the Hyundai Ioniq 5.

So, when did Mick buy his first Porsche? Well, that was in 2015, when he purchased a 997.2 Carrera S in manual. Mick was introduced to a car and community that he really enjoyed, he loved his 997 and thought it was a keeper. That was until early 2020 when he found out that Porsche East London had two cancelled GT4 orders, The one Mick was interested in was a very well optioned black GT4 manual with ceramic brakes, buckets, and the very cool Arun gold wheels. Reminiscent of his dads WRX (and a colour combination he loved) the decision was easily made. Mick's 997 is now gone and the GT4 sits in his garage, he couldn’t be happier.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 76 of owner stories with Andy from Northern Ireland. The first time Andy noticed a Porsche was the year Star Wars came out, it was 1977 in Tasmania and the car was an orange Porsche 911. The poster cars for Andy were not Porsches though, they were Corvettes and Lamborghinis. Andy really liked the Corvette Stingray. Andy recalls ‘Porsches weren’t really around that much’ but he does remember a very cool 928 owned by his mum’s boss.

Andy’s first car was a Datsun 240K, a hand me down from his mum. Once he graduated and started work Andy owned sensible cars including a Ford Fairmont. There were some fun cars though along the way. First, Andy owned a 1985 Mitsubishi Cordia Turbo GSR. Following the Cordia was a car he always wanted, a 1982 Mitsubishi Starion. Both cars he enjoyed driving and modifying. At this time Andy was living in Melbourne and immersed in the local car community.

In 2019 after selling his business Andy decided he wanted a sportscar. Research began and not long after his first Porsche becomes a reality. Andy purchased a 2006 987.1 Cayman S. The Cayman was a test to see if he liked the Porsche thing - he did. A 2011 Cayman R followed and recently Andy just purchased his first 911, a 996 GT3. Not just any GT3, but a rare 1999 996.1 GT3 Clubsport Manthey K400 in Speed Yellow. This is one special Porsche which Andy is going to put plenty of miles on.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 75 of owner stories with Tom from Vancouver, Canada. One of Toms earliest memories of Porsche is a plastic model of a G-Body 911 Targa on his dad’s dresser. Tom mentions that even though his dad was a ‘muscle and hot rod guy’ he was always into 911s. So much so that when Tom was around 8 years old his dad purchased a 1978 911 SC in silver. His dads 911 SC was a car that Tom recalls some great memories with.

Toms first car was not a Porsche but very cool just the same. It was a ’91 Toyota MR2, not a bad place to start your car journey. Having enjoyed the MR2, a ‘more sensible’ Honda Civic hatchback followed. A car that Tom went down the ‘JDM road’ with. So, when did the Porsche arrive? The Porsche for Tom (like a lot of us) happened later in life. One thing Tom did want was to give his two boys the Porsche experience that his dad gave him and his brother.

Tom wanted a reliable 911 that ‘he could turn the key and drive’. He started searching for 911s from the 996, 997 and 991 generations. After a long search and having passed up on a few, the right one eventually turned up. In August 2021, Tom found a 2002 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S, silver, manual and with a black interior - this one was just right.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 74 of owner stories with Greg from Chicago in the U.S. Greg’s first car was a MG Midget, a car he shared with his brother. At around the same time Greg remembers being ‘stopped in his tracks’ when a ’74 or ’75 Carrera in Gulf Blue came rolling down his street. A lasting memory and a car he wanted to own one day. Then there was a Porsche 911 book (which he still has) gifted from an old girlfriend - all fuelling his passion. Other cars along the way included a Firebird, Challenger and a ‘69 Camaro, but nothing that Greg really regrets selling. Looking back Greg now realises nothing drives like a Porsche.

So, when does the dream become reality? Greg’s first Porsche came about when he accompanied his friend to a car dealership, and he ended up buying his first Porsche – a 2003 911 Cabriolet. He enjoyed the 996 Porsche 911 for 10 years and it is now owned by his brother-in-law.

Four years after selling his 911 Greg’s came across an article about cars from the ‘80s and started looking for another Porsche. First came the 1989 944 Turbo S in manual. Greg loves this car especially the ‘rush’ of the turbo. Greg didn’t stop there. He always wanted an ‘80’s Carrera and found one advertised in the PCA magazine. Not your average 3.2 G Series Carrera but a low mileage 1986 911 Carrera Coupe (CS) clone. Greg is now deep into the Porsche world, enjoying his cars and active in the Porsche Community. After seeing a fantastic 356 at a Cars and Coffee, Greg decided he wanted to know more about the iconic 356. He did his research, spoke to the right people, and purchased a 1964 356 C in Ruby Red. A 356 with a great history and Porsche ownership story. Recently Greg added a Speed Yellow 2003 996 Cab to his collection, a modern Porsche for those fun drives and reminiscent of his first 911.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 73 of owner stories with Dan from New York in the U.S. Dan grew up in the age of the posters on the wall but it was the Porsche 928 scene in the movie Scarface that left an impression. in college his roommate’s dad coincidentally owned a couple of Porsche 928s. Dans Dad had a few cool cars when he was growing up including a manual Chevy Nova, Nissan 240Z and an early 80’s Camaro. The Camaro Dan would drive when he his dad was away and really enjoyed driving. His dad also gave him a ‘71 Mercury Cougar XR-7 convertible, which gave Dan the ‘convertible bug’.

Moving to New York straight out of school the need for a car diminished. It wasn’t until Dan got married and moved to Long Island that he needed a car again. His Jeep came first, but Dan really wanted a convertible. A few test drives later he decided on ‘97 986 Boxster 2.5. This was in 2002 and is a car that still puts a smile on Dans face 20 years later. A car that opened Dan up to the unexpected and enjoyable Porsche community.

Just under a year ago Dan decided to purchase a 911. A Porsche he has wanted for some time. After a long search Dan found just what he wanted, and in the right specification and options – a 2010 997.2 C4S manual in Carrara White. A car he is really having fun with and enjoying to the fullest.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Steve and Marco are here. Michael updates that there will still be no more Friday episodes for a while - but this one just happened. It’s not easy with 3 hosts and Steve thinks it sounds all a bit stilted - but not for long. Michael is excited that you can now buy Porsches with Crypto. Marco and Steve still don’t get it. Steve explains his GT3 issues, and the repairs completed. Michael is still talking about 993’s and Steve has some good advice.

The perfect 912 just came up in the UK but Michael isn’t tempted. Marco thinks it’s best to pay a bit more and get a sorted one. Especially for Michael. What else? Marco explains the relevance of Fuchs on his new oval window VW Beetle and tells the story of his late-night roadside repairs.

Buying advice and checks? Well, Marco thinks it comes down to trust and gut instinct no matter how much research is done. Steve adds that you need to judge the car that’s in front of you and trust the person who is checking it. You just can’t generalise. Steve shares his thoughts on the new 911 Sport classic.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 72 of owner stories with Amanda from Colorado in the U.S. Amanda’s car journey started when she was only 4 when her dad bought a Mitsubishi Eclipse. A car Amanda has fond memories of pretending to drive like a racing driver. Later in life, and inspired by a ‘Fast and the Furious’, Amanda wanted a Charger. In 2013 her wish came true with a Dodge Charger 100th anniversary edition. A car Amanda enjoyed for around 6 years and drove it all over the country.

Amanda mentions she knew little about German cars, but that changed after an Audi Experience Day at Circuit of the Americas in an R8. A BMW experience in M Cars followed and Amanda’s (and her Husbands) love of German cars began.

So, what followed? A BMW X3 M40i, a car Amanda took to the track. It was at these track days where she started noticing the Porsches. The inevitable followed. In 2020 the first 911 entered the garage, a 2002 Carrera 4 996 Cabriolet - manual and in Arctic Silver. This was going to be Amanda and her husbands’ ‘fun’ car. Not to mention it became the car Amanda learnt to drive stick in. It doesn’t end there. In late 2002, Amanda and her husband purchased a black 2007 911 Turbo in manual. Both practical cars were now gone, and the Porsches were daily driven with snow tyres when needed. Recently the 997 Turbo has been replaced with a very special 2022 Porsche 718 Spyder, Shark Blue, Manual with LWB’s.

PorscheCooled is back. In today’s Podcast Michael chats with Marco about all things Porsche. You guys would have heard Marco’s name thrown about in a lot of previous episodes. Marco owns a very cool Speed Yellow 996 Turbo and has stepped up to co-host with Michael today. So, where’s Steve? That’s what everyone wants to know. Michael explains.

After an update, Michael thinks the new 992 911 Sport Classic may be the perfect Turbo, Marco likes how it’s a Turbo and RWD. Then there is the recently launched GT4 RS - Michael and Marco wouldn’t say no, and honestly who could not love that sound. Marco reckons Porsche have given the Cayman fans what they wanted. Michael talks watches for a bit and shows off his pronunciation skills with JLC.

‘There is no substitute’ – at first it's not clear whether Michael is just talking about Porsches, Marco, or other Podcasts. Of course, he is referencing Porsche’s heritage. Michael and Marco share their thoughts on Porsche’s mantra. Marco talks about his new car acquisitions (which are not Porsches) and his lifelong love of the VW Beetle.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael and Steve chat about how to buy a Porsche 992. Which one to get and the best options. It’s not easy if you start thinking about the balance of colour / options and rarity. Buying any 911 in this crazy Porsche bubble is not easy. Before that, Steve questions Instagram bots, changes his exhaust to get his jollies whilst Michael is waiting in the wings with a surprise announcement - which he will probably regret.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 71 of owner stories with David from Sydney, Australia. First Porsche memories? Well, apart from the model cars it was a 911 in a car book given to him by his parents. A book he still has and has now gifted to his daughter. David got to see his first 911 in real life at his dads panel shop – a 930 turbo.

David doesn’t miss any of his previous cars as ‘they were all pretty much shit boxes’, making his first Porsche even more special. In saying, that David was always into road bikes, especially riding sport bikes, having owned around 13 of them over the years.

David has a detailing business which he started straight out of school. Today David details a lot of nice cars, but it was until 2019 that he seriously started thinking the time was right to start looking for his ‘nice car’ - a 911. Originally David started searching for a 997 Carrera S but decided he wanted a 911 without any underlying issues, so he started looking at the 996 Turbo. A big decision as David has never spent that amount of money on a car before. Why the Turbo? Well, David thought why not go all in and buy a 911 with the bullet proof Mezger engine. At the end of 2019 David found his perfect 911 a well-documented 2001 996 Porsche 911 Turbo, manual in Meridian Metallic with RUF wheels and wing. It was a great day.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael and Steve chat about the Porsches they saw whilst attending the Duck & Whale Car Meet in Sydney. It was a bit overwhelming in more ways than one. Before that Steve reckons the new Macan T is a Travesty. Michael looks at the sinking Porsche cargo ship in a slightly different way. Oh, and on the topic of being 'Porscheless’ - well that’s a tricky one.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 70 of owner stories with Al (@Witty924) from Hampshire in the UK. Al grew up in the age of the poster with the three iconic cars – Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche. Iconic cars that he and his childhood friends would chat and dream about.

Al worked in the motor industry starting with Audi, but Porsches, Audi and the like were out of reach. When Al was growing up in the UK it was more about fast Fords and fast Vauxhalls. These were the cars that were prominent and obtainable. Working in the motor trade allowed Al to experience different cars without the cost. Al quickly became a fan of the German brands and has owned E30 and E36 BMWs.

Al’s entry into Porsche happened later in life. In his words when it did happen, he ‘went all in’ and purchased two. The first was a well-documented 1984 Porsche 924 with the 2.0 litre engine, optioned in Copenhagen Blue. Al wanted something that would give him a hands-on experience with Porsche. A Porsche he could learn and work on. Al thought the 924 was the perfect platform for this project and loves the story of the how the 924 came to fruition. Not long after Al bought his first 911, a rare 2003 996 generation 911 turbo S with the X50 package and full carbon pack. Al couldn’t be happier with his 911. The 996 Turbo S gives Al the ‘wow factor’ - just what he wanted.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael wants Steve to say his new appointed catch phrase but he is not playing along. Speaking of friends with multiple Porsches Steve reckons he only has one – ‘can you really count the Macan as a Porsche’. Moving along to real Porsches then and the iconic feature we all remember from our first Porsche memories – wings.

Porsche wings, you either love or hate, but form does follow function. Michael and Steve have decided that Porsche wings is the main chat topic this week. Sure, there is the 993 Turbo fixed wing, the beautifully designed 959 wing and the whale and ducktail. Nevertheless, Steve reckons we sometimes forget about how special the retractable wing on the Carrera really is. A 911 signature and instantly recognisable to most as a Porsche if not a 911. What else – well the 992.2 is coming as is the new 911 Safari. Plus, a whole lot more.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 69 of owner stories with Matt from New York in the U.S. Matts first recollection of Porsche was the Dentist in his local town who had a 911. An iconic black 964 with a whale tail, a Porsche Matt admired and remembers well. Most of Matt’s cars before his Porsche were mainly hand me down cars from his parents. His first ‘real car’ (as Matt puts it) was a Nissan Maxima. A car that had some extra performance than his previous cars.

Once he moved to New York Matt didn’t own a car for some years. Owning a car, let alone a Porsche in New York has its challenges, especially with parking and associated costs. Until Covid hit, Matt never had the need for a sports car. The Porsche 911 was going to be the means to escape and get out of the city.

After using Turo to rent a Porsche 991 Matt was hooked and didn’t want to give it up. From that point on Matt knew he wanted a 911 and his search began. Initially wanting a Porsche 991 Matt decided upon something rawer. He found a fully optioned 2006 997 generation 911 Carrera S, manual 6 speed which was perfect. In the past year Matt has driven his first 911 over 20,000 miles.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael and Steve chat about keeping it original - your 911 that is. As Steve points out, most modifications are reversible, and comes from the view that modding is fun. Michael ponders whether owners of a Porsche 996 or even a 997 generation 911 will start to think twice and want to keep their ‘future classic’ 911 as is. Age and Porsche purism. Is there an age when you shouldn’t mess with your 911 or does it depend upon the variant and rarity? Is the 996 and 997 generation at that point? The rapid increase in values could make current and new owners of 996s and 997s think differently. Steve notes that with the high volume of 997 and 996 Porsches produced does originality really come into play?

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 68 of owner stories with Derek from New Hampshire in the U.S. Derek doesn’t recall seeing many Porsches growing up. His first exposure to the brand was at around 10 years old when he was given a die-cast Porsche model. A model he remembers well due to its cool shape, and it being not like anything else he had seen. It was until after college that Derek bought his first Porsche. He started with transaxles and then worked his way up to the rear engine Porsches.

Derek has a strong passion for both cars and motorcycles, owning over 40 to date. This includes around 11 or so Porsches. The first Porsche Derek bought was a 924 Turbo with his brother. A project car that unfortunately never got on the road. Nonetheless, this cemented Derek’s passion for Porsche.

So, what was Derek’s first Porsche he could enjoy on the road? Well, that was a black-on-black Porsche 944S - a very cool looking car. This was the start of Derek’s ‘Porsche bug’, and he has owned and experienced some great Porsches since then. These include a 356C, 930 Turbo, 911SC, Boxster S, 914, 993 C4 and a 997, all the way to his current Porsches. Derek’s wife drives a 2013 Porsche Cayenne S and Derek found his perfect air-cooled 911. A 1972 911T in Albert blue with a 2.7 engine. A car that took him 3 years to find. The right 911 for Derek and in a colour, he wanted and was willing to wait for.

In today’s PorscheCooled Steve starts off being a bit morbid and ponders if the listeners ever think about what happens to their Porsche when they are gone. Another Carrera GT breaks the record on BAT, Michael looks at the increase in values. Has ‘Turbo’ been diluted with modern Porsches? With its innovations and figures at the time, the original 911 Turbo launched in the 70’s was aspirational and broke new ground. Also, Michael and Steve need to talk about Fish Silver Grey 911s - are they really that special.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 67 of owner stories with Brennan from Las Vegas. It’s fair to say that Brennan’s dad gave him the Porsche bug. His dad is a car collector with over 20 cars including Shelbys, Corvettes, and Porsches including a 930 Turbo and a classic Porsche 356.

Brennan has fond childhood memories of walking out into the garage and always seeing a Porsche in there. This included sitting in his dads ‘88 911 Cabriolet over the years and feeling the steering wheel and remembering the sounds and smells of the 911.

Before his first 911, Brennan owned fun drivers cars including an Audi A4, BMW 135, E92 M3 and even a Ken Block Ford Focus. Brennan enjoyed driver’s cars that he could mod and make his own.

His first 911? Well, it’s a 964 Carrera 2, 6 speed in Grand Prix white - just what he wanted. Late last year Brennan’s Porsche garage expanded with the addition of an ’88 911 Commemorative Edition Cabriolet. A car from his dad’s collection and from Brennan’s childhood gifted to him on his wedding day.

Steve explains what happens when his 997 GT3 valves get stuck open – think loud. Michael now thinks his Carrera may not be loud enough – it’s a ‘bit soft’. We all want our ‘flat six’ to sing. After 5 years of ownership Michael is starting to have mixed emotions about his 997. Porsche Profiling: we all hate being ‘put in a box’ as Steve says but today is the day to do it. Some funny results and Porsche chat to follow.

In today’s Porsche Cooled Podcast Michael presents episode 66 of owner stories with Chris from Tucson in the U.S. Chris has entered the Porsche world at a young age - at 30 he is now driving and enjoying his first 911. Growing up in New Mexico Chris said he really didn’t see many Porsches. Although, the ones he did see he remembers well. The 993 he spotted on a school field trip or the neighbours new 997 and then 964 are all part Chris’s first Porsche memories. Then there was Top Gear, the show that Chris also credits his Porsche passion to.

First cars included a Nissan pickup truck, and a ’95 Mustang GT his father bought him in his senior year at High School. Then there is the special car Chris still owns – his dads 1990 ford F250 – a car Chris will never get rid of. Chris is also into motorcycles and owns a few, including his original Suzuki and a couple of Ducatis.

A few years ago, Chris was looking at buying an Audi or Mercedes which were not quite right. His dad suggested that the time was right and he should get a Porsche. So that’s what Chris did. He started searching and this led him to the 996 Carrera 4S a car Chris wanted due to the AWD.

In April 2019 Chris found the perfect local car, well cared for, original owner and a C4S just what he wanted for his active lifestyle. A great find and the perfect start to Chris’s Porsche journey.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael and Steve are chatting about all thing Porsche. Well, it doesn’t start off that way, but they eventually get there. Steve took his GT3 out for a drive to Akuna Bay in Sydney with Marco close behind in his 996 Turbo. They didn’t enjoy the road, Steve explains why. Steve has seatbelt issues and Michael has messed up his Porsche DYI yet again. There is no way he can fit his new Lathewerks knob. Michael is now a fan of the GT3 pinstripe wheels – Steve is not having a bar of it.

Main chat this week (inspired by Blair from this weeks owner stories) is about buying the car you want; the car you can enjoy the car you can experience to its fullest. In some ways it’s your unicorn. It doesn’t have to be a Carrera GT, 911R, Speedster or even a Carrera RS. Sometimes the Porsche unicorn is right there in front of you without even realising - ‘appreciate what you got’ as Steve says.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 65 of owner stories with Blair from Salt Lake City in the U.S. Blair doesn’t quite remember exactly when he first started noticing or thinking about Porsche. Nonetheless, he does have two distinct memories. The first at 19 when he moved to Munich, he recalls the sound of the iconic Porsche Flat Six in the streets of the city’s historic surroundings. The second is being in a car on the autobahn when an air-cooled 911and its distinctive whale tail went screaming past. Blair vividly remembers the sight and the sound of that car being ‘one of the coolest things he has ever seen.’

An internship working for BMW in Munich crystallised his love for German cars including Porsche. Fast forward a few years and Blair decides the time was right to own the car he always wanted – the E46 BMW M3. After his first M3 Blair was tempted by 911s but decided that he wanted another M3. His second E46 M3 followed. As good as the M3 was it was a low mileage collectible car. Blair wanted a car he could drive and enjoy more. A car he wasn’t scared to put miles on.

After a friend let him drive his 718 Cayman S, Blair was blown away. So, a 2014 981 Cayman S became Blair’s first Porsche. A car he really enjoyed but wanted more. Blair’s second Porsche was a white 2016 GT4, a car he sold after six weeks. His next Porsche, a 981 GT4 in sapphire blue followed. Blair said if you are going to spend that type of money, you should really get the one you want.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 64 of owner stories with Lorenzo from Brooklyn, New York. Lorenzo grew up in Southern California where the car culture he was a part of included Hondas and Japanese cars. The idea of owning a Porsche was akin to owning a Ferrari or a Lamborghini and at the time seemed well out of reach.

Lorenzo’s Porsche journey started around 5 years ago after his friend took him to the track in his 911. An experience he really enjoyed. Although, living in New York Lorenzo still didn’t think a 911 was something that he really needed. Lorenzo’s search for his first 911 only began in mid 2020, albeit casually. Around a year later Lorenzo found a 2007 911 Carrera that he had to have. The 997 generation 911 was a perfect fit for Lorenzo’s desire and budget.

Lorenzo wanted a 911 he could drive not only around town but on road trips so he added a roof box and uses the 911 whenever and wherever he can. Let’s call it his adventure Porsche. His buddy who helped him along the way sees the 997 as the perfect mixture of modern and vintage. I think anyone who owns a 997 would have agree.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 63 of owner stories with Amir from Brunei. In the late 80’ s when Amir was around 9 years old, he vividly remembers one of the kids at his school being picked up in a black 911 with a whale tail. Amir didn’t really know what it was at the time, but he like it. This was Amir’s first memory of noticing a Porsche. The second, at 15, was when a pilot visited his school for Careers Day. The pilot arrived at the school in his black Porsche 911. Full circle, this is Someone who Amir would later connect with and become friends. After this talk (and seeing the pilot arrive in his 911) Amir knew what he wanted to achieve. Amir says he wasn’t a ‘car geek’ he just wanted a car, and he wanted a nice one.

Amir’s cars along the way to his first Porsche included Audi’s VW’s and what Amir calls his ‘airport cars.’ The first car which started putting him in the direction of the Porsche 911 was his Mazda MX5 or Miata, a fun and popular sports car.

Although a successful airline captain flying Boeing 787’s Amir was sensible, and his Porsches came later in life. His first Porsche in 2013 was a 2008 987 Cayman S. After a couple of years of ownership Amir wanted to get a 911. His first 911 was a 2013 991 Carrera 2. Amir hasn’t stopped there. His currently owns a Porsche 997.2 C2 in in a unique colour. Amir things the 991 was a better car but the 997 is a better Porsche and suits him perfectly.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 62 of owner stories with Tony from New Jersey in the U.S. Tony did not grow up in a car family nor a Porsche family. In fact, Tony acknowledges that Porsche didn’t pique his interest until much later. Nonetheless, Tony is now a car guy, immersed in the car / Porsche community and organises a very successful Cars and Coffee @carsandcaffe in the New Jersey area.

Tony was a Corvette guy growing up and still owns his first one. So, what was it that put Porsche on Tony’s radar? Well, the first was a 1/18 scale model of the Carrera GT plus seeing the CGT in video games. In fact, the CGT is on the top of Tony’s list as a ‘one day’ Porsche. Second was a ride in his friends 993 Turbo in iconic Arena Red - the poster car of the 993 generation. Tony was hooked and ‘had to have a Porsche from that moment on.’ So much so that his first 911 was a 993 Carrera 2 manual in Arena Red. Next, Tony wanted to experience the 997, so is second (and current 911) is a 2005 997 Carrera 2S in Carmona Red – another cool and rare colour; optioned just the way he wanted.

Michael admits he’s not ‘handy at all’ – surprise. Moving along, Steve likes to keep all his old 911 parts and still has some from his 964. Steve adds his thoughts on Porsche rarity and what it should equate to in the real Porsche value equation. The 911 is meant to be driven but Michael says he couldn’t daily the 911 in Sydney. Steve disagrees as he did it for 20 years. Michael takes a Porsche Sunday drive and loves how his 911 feels. Is PPF worth it? What to do about tint. All is discussed in this week’s episode. Growing up, Porsche was not something David thought about that much - he was into Australian muscle cars. It makes sense then that David’s first memorable car was a rare Holden Walkinshaw Commodore. A homologation special that David loved the sound of. Other enthusiast cars followed, including a BMW E39 M5, BMW 840CI and a BMW M2 which he tweaked and enjoyed on the track. For David, Porsche ownership came later in life, and he didn’t waste any time. To start his Porsche journey David, choose a 911 Carrera T in iconic GT Silver. A car David optioned from new, enjoyed and drove to its fullest. David didn’t stop there as he always wanted a GT3. His current 911 is a rare GT3 Touring, black, manual with full leather. A car that was worth the wait.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 60 of owner stories with Josh from Seattle in the U.S. Josh’s father is a big part of why he loves 911s. As a kid his father brought home a ’86 Guards Red 930 turbo. Josh remembers his first ride in this car and the day he realised ‘what a fast car was’. A very cool childhood memory that doesn’t end there. His dad slowly made the 930 Turbo into a track car. Josh recalls going to the PCA track days with him as a kid. A great introduction to Josh’s Porsche journey.

His dad sold the 930 when Josh was 16. Following the 911 his dad bought a Mini Cooper S, a shared car with his dad which he drove to school. During college his first car was a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee. After the Jeep Josh was carless for a few years but knew his next car had to be a Porsche. Originally thinking of a Boxster or 911, Josh’s lifestyle and budget at the time led him to a Cayenne. ‘Be patient and let the right car find you’ Josh said. Well, it did, and his first Porsche was a 2004 Cayenne Turbo. A car Josh loved but ended up selling after the air suspension gave way. So now what? Well, Josh always had a goal to own a 911. Finding the right one wasn’t so easy, and Josh almost gave up on it. Well, he didn’t and this year everything came together. Josh now owns his first 911, a 2000 996 Carrera 2 manual in ocean blue metallic with the factory Aerokit. A unique 911 and Josh couldn’t be happier.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael and Steve are back chatting all things, Porsche. Let’s start, every Porsche has a superpower and its not necessarily all about chasing top speed. It really is so much more. Michael makes excuses for not going on Sundays spirited drive with Steve in his 997 GT3 and Marco in his 996 turbo. Anyway, moving on Michael is happy with how his car looks and drives. The work done by Autohaus Hamilton, and Atlas Body was money well spent. Michael chats about his struggle installing leather parts and how he damaged his wheel. Steve wants to talk about coatings and how his car detailing/ washing routine has changed. Finishing up, Steve looks back at his 993 ownership and why he replaced an air-cooled 911 with his GT3.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 59 of owner stories with Mathieu from London in the UK. Mathieu has been into cars from an early age, not always Porsches but his passion for cars has always been there. Mathieu’s first car was a Ford KA, very different from the Porsche he drives today. So where did it all begin? Mathieu recalls a 996 turbo as an early memory, a time when he first really looked at the brand. A drive day with his brother turned into an opportunity to drive and experience a Porsche 911 for the first time. This was the turning point for Mathieu.

Mathieu’s journey to his first Porsche was a progression. There was a MGF and BMW along the way. As Mathieu says, he ‘always knew where he wanted to go it was about finding a way to get there’. Well, Mathieu did get there and realised his Porsche passion with a 986 Boxster. As Mathieu explains, this was not a 911 stop gap, but a car he really wanted and loved driving. A Mini Cooper S followed then came Mathieu’s first Porsche 911, a 1998 996 generation Carrera 2. It doesn’t end there. Mathieu’s followed the 996 with his first 997, a 2006 Carrera 2, a car he regrets selling. So much so he purchased another one this year, a Midnight Blue 2005 997.1 C2 in manual.

In today’s PorscheCooled podcast Michael is home in Sydney for only a minute and his 997 has already gone to Autohaus Hamilton and Atlas Body for maintenance and repair. The list is long, but Steve agrees that pulling the trigger and getting everything done was the right thing. Steve has detailed his 997 GT3 so well he is now experiencing the precious phase. Michael and Steve agree that Maintenance is maintenance, whether you drive your Porsche or not. No miles on your 911 means you will always end up losing. Then there is the Cayman GT4Rs, a hot topic and a new Porsche. Who thinks they can get one?

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 58 of owner stories with Gary from New Jersey in the U.S. Gary’s Porsche journey all started when his father gave him a poster of the iconic ‘80’s Porsche 911 turbo. Gary was 7 at the time, living in Israel, and hoped one day he would own a Porsche.

At the age of 10 Gary’s family moved to the US, and then at 14 to Belgium. So, from the poster on the wall what was Gary’s first car? Well, it was a Porsche! A red 1986 944 he bought in Belgium with his own hard-earned money at just over 17 years old.

This was a car Gary enjoyed immensely and drove through Europe, a car that reinforced his love of not only Porsche but transaxle Porsches. Fast forward and Gary has owned a lot of Porsches, including 944s, 928GT, 994S2, 944 turbos and 968s. Gary’s car journey also included a few special BMWs along the way as well as a Toyota MR2.

Gary first 911 was an 80’s Targa, followed by a 964 C4 Cabriolet. His 1999 Porsche 996 C2 came next, a well optioned 911 with GT3 wheels, LSD, Aero 2 kit wing and side skirts. Recently Gary added a 997 Carrera 2 to his garage, a full Aero kit 911 C2 in manual. Gary’s garage is complete for now, a two car collection he is happy with and in his words has ‘hit the sweet spot.’

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 57 of owner stories with Geoff from Sydney, Australia. Growing up in Brisbane Geoff has been surrounded by cars since he was a kid. His father was a car enthusiast – owning Jaguars and even an Aston Martin DB4 when Geoff was in his teens. Not to mention his uncles who also had some special cars including Jaguar E Types and MGB’s. Iconic sports cars that Geoff fondly remembers admiring and riding in as a kid. All great cars but it wasn’t until his dad’s friend turned up one day in a new 3.0 litre 911 Turbo that Geoff knew Porsche was his dream car.

Geoff’s early car journey included an MGB when he was 17 as well as the original Mini Cooper S. Porsche ownership was still out of reach. In his early 20’s Geoff almost purchased a 1973 911E, a car he wanted (and could afford) but his father objected to. Fast forward a few years to the ‘90’s and Geoff starts his Porsche ownership journey with a ’82 911SC Targa. Since then, Geoff is now well and truly a ‘Porsche guy’, having owned 19 Porsches to date. His current Porsche garage is very special. He has a 1956, ’57 model year 356A speedster under restoration, a well optioned ’73.5 Australian delivered RHD 911 TE and a ‘67 SWB 912 in RHD. All with a great back story. Geoff loves to search the history of all the Porsches he owns. This includes documenting the heritage of all the cars and tracking down and connecting with previous owners. Geoff really does uncover the hidden history of his cars. Geoff’s passion and knowledge of Porsche is evident and a reason why I love recording the owner stories episodes.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Steve wants his GT3 back and Michael is excited about coming home. Michael has been doing his usual ‘Porsche Pottering’, trying to find more things to buy for his 997. Steve is tired of talking Porsche values and Michael agrees he can’t keep up with the Porsche hypermarket. Is it pandemic related or are we all in the midst of a midlife crisis? Michael and Steve dig deeper, all is not as it seems.

Owning a Porsche is a special feeling. An enthusiasm that makes you want to take your Porsche / 911 and just drive it nowhere. A feeling everyone should experience. Steve worries that the cost of Porsche entry now limits this - being an enthusiast is not enough anymore. Michael and Steve end up chatting about GT3’s - would you buy a 991.1? Lastly, engine mounts, short shifter tweaks, should you move away from OEM. Oh, and Steve drives his 911 GT3 in the rain testing his newly applied ceramic coating.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 56 of owner stories with Rich from New Jersey. Ever since Rich was a kid he has been into cars. From the playing with matchbox to the favourite cars on TV including the Ferrari 308 GTS from Magnum PI. Another favourite of Rich’s was the Porsche 944. After seeing one drive by he was hooked. A Red 944 poster on his wall followed and Rich told his dad, one day he is going to get one. Well that day came much quicker than Rich ever expected. For Rich’s 16th birthday Rich’s dad took him to the local Porsche dealer and bought him his dream Porsche – a brand new Red Porsche 944. A gift which Rich planed and to repay - which he did.

His car during college was a E30 BMW coupe. A Mercedes CLK followed when Rich was working in the city. The Mercedes was a great city commute car, but Rich needed more. A 2001 Boxster followed with manual transmission. This was a car Rich loved to drive. Not only that, this car opened Rich up to the Porsche community. A community where he made friends with the creator of the ‘Gundo exhaust hack.'

Rich owned his Boxster for 17 years, only trading it for his 911 in 2019. So Rich’s third and current Porsche is a 2007 997.1 911 Carrera S Cabriolet, 6 speed in Midnight Blue. A car that took him a while to find but was definitely worth the wait.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael and Steve are back chatting all things, Porsche. After four months of lockdown in Sydney Steve had a great freedom drive in his 997 GT3 with Marco keeping the pace in his 996 Turbo. The cobwebs have well and truly been blown away. As we all know, owning a 911 is not just about the drive but the full ownership experience. This includes maintenance, detailing and general upkeep. That’s what this weeks episode is all about. A detailing question from Benjamin (Insta @modclassiccars) starts it all off and allows Steve to dig deeper on his techniques and products used. Back to Maintenance, Michael reckons everyone should check out Friends Green Porsche on YouTube, great info about common maintenance items to check on your 996/997.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 55 of owner stories with Devan from the Bay Area in U.S. Growing up in California Devan’s father was into American cars. As a kid, Porsche was not on his radar. So how did it all begin? Devan’s path to Porsche ownership started with a good friend and mentor – they would catch up, drink beers, and talk cars and Porsche. This friend, as Devan puts it, ‘moulded his perspective on the automotive front’. This is when Devan started goal setting and planning when to get his first Porsche.

Devan’s car journey included a Volvo 5 speed he learnt to drive stick on, a 66 Mustang at sixteen as well as Jaguars which he really enjoyed. Jaguar ownership made Devan look more at European cars. After that, a goal was set to buy his ‘dream car’ and Devan started looking for his first Porsche. This turned out to be a 2001 911 Turbo Tiptronic. A transmission he thought he would get to love - but he didn’t. Devan now had the taste for Porsche and knew this time he wanted a manual. His second Porsche was a 2007 997 Carrera 4S, a car he enjoyed more than the 996 Turbo.

Wanting a rawer experience Devan’s Porsche journey has come full circle. He now owns and is restoring a 1969 Porsche 911T long hood. A special car as it was owned by his late friend and mentor.

Michael is on a high as he is coming home to Sydney and his 911. His plans for servicing and fixing the 997’s front bumper damage has already begun. What determines our Porsche direction? Classic or Modern? Michael takes it a bit further and wants to know how many Porsches you need to own before you become a true Porsche Wheelman. Plus, there’s lots of other chat in between.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 54 of owner stories with Zander from Adelaide, Australia. As a kid Zander had an interest in Porsche. Not to mention growing up in Adelaide with The F1 and watching Motorsport on TV left a lasting impression. In particular, seeing Jim Richards and Peter Fitzgerald duelling it out in Porsches. This is when he realised that one day, he needed to have one. Zander’s pre-Porsche car journey included a Fiat Abarth 850 TC, a few Japanese imports, BMWs including a couple of 2002’s and a 90s Mercedes 180E which he still dailies.

Zander's Porsche passion is strong. His first Porsche was a ’66 912 which he spent 7 years restoring. This car is now owned by Steven from Owner Stories #38 having purchased it from Zander earlier this year. After selling his prized Porsche, Zander needed another one. He searched out a 996 GT3 road car which fell through, but his love of Australian Motorsport ultimately led him to a 2003 996 GT3 Cup car. Not just any 911 cup car, but one raced by Peter Fitzgerald.

Zander had only had his new 911 a few days when we recorded this, but his enthusiasm was contagious. Some of you may recall this GT3 as it was previously owned by James @porschplatz - a friend of PorscheCooled and from Owner Stories #8. James had done an amazing job of finding and restoring this 911 with period correct ’04 livery. Zander is the new custodian of this amazing track day 911 GT3 and couldn’t be happier.

Steve has completed his paint correction and ceramic coat on his 997 GT3 and reflects on the 70+ hours to complete - the process and results. Looks like no more waxing for Steve from now on.

Michael wants to chat about the essence of Porsche and unticking the options boxes - let's go back to basics. Continuing the Porsche chat; is a Tiptronic transmission better than a manual? A post on a Porsche forum has started a discussion on todays episode. Is the Tip just something that needs to be learned to be enjoyed? Steve doesn’t agree. Then Steve wants to talk about the ‘bog standard’ 997.1 GT3 shifter. Steve wasn’t impressed with his and changed it shortly after he purchased his GT3.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 53 of owner stories with Paul from the UK. Cars have been a part of Paul's life for ever. Since his mid-teens he has had his eye on Porsche. As a kid he drew a 993 engine and silhouette and sent it to a Dick Lovett - a well know Porsche dealer in the UK. Surprisingly he received a response as well as a stock of books for his passion. From that point onwards Paul was fascinated with Porsche, although it was still out of reach. Paul put his Porsche dreams aside ‘as one day’ I will have a Porsche which most of us can relate to.

Living in Cheltenham with an abundance of great driving roads this only fuelled Paul’s passion, it's no wonder he has owned over 40 cars to date.

From his first memorable car a mid-engine Mk1 Toyota MR2 sorted by Litchfield in the UK. A lot of drivers cars followed, including GTI’s, Accord Type R, Lotus Elise and many others. Pauls engineering background and being a ‘sucker for a special edition” has drawn him to very interesting cars. Today, Paul has come full circle with his first Porsche, a mid-engine well optioned 2015 Porsche 981 Cayman with manual transmission.

Paul is also part of Reengineering where with his 2 partners will be leading a group of STEM grads through building a 550 Spyder (kit). This will be a modern interpretation of the ’50’s 550 with re-engineered parts and a carbon body built to a level that Paul would like to equal Singer. Not your average kit car.

Nonetheless, Michael had an idea whilst running this morning. Is the value dilemma that air-cooled owners experienced now being felt by 996 and 997 owners? Should you keep, sell or upgrade? What do you do with your appreciating asset? We all know as Porsche enthusiasts its more about the experience than the money. Have water-cooled Porsches become the new air-cooled.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 52 of owner stories with Filip from Brussels in Belgium. For as long as Filip can remember he has always been a car fanatic. From knowing all the car brands when he was a child along with the posters of supercars on his wall – Ferraris and Lamborghinis. So, when does Filip’s Porsche memory begin? Well, at around 10 years old Filip’s dad bought a 911 and his Porsche love began. His dad owned many 911s including 964, 993 and 996’s.

So immersed in Porsches as a kid it’s no surprise that Filip has now ended up with his own Porsche. Coincidently, it’s the only 911 generation of his dad’s cars that Filip was old enough to drive – the 996. So that’s when as Filip says, ‘the dreaming started’. After boring company cars Filips first Porsche eventually came a few years ago with a Guards Red 944, a car Filip owned for for 3 years and enjoyed immensely. After this came a blue 996, that went alongside his 944. Both are now gone, and Filip is driving his one owner 2001 996 GT3 in silver. Filip is a Porsche enthusiast who really enjoys his cars.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael and Steve are back chatting all things Porsche.

Steve starts the podcast by venting and wondering how Lady Godiva means money. Michael is off on a tangent. There is a bit of watch talk so be warned, but everything always relates back to Porsche. There is definitely a relationship between say Rolex demand and prices and Porsches. Would you pay a dealer premium for a watch or Porsche? Michael and Steve ponder this in today’s episode. Talking of Luft 7, Steve thinks the line between air and water-cooled Porsches may have blurred over the years.

Continuing on, Michael was surprised by the prices Porsche Classic charge for a full restoration. Is it worth it? In today’s new and classic market if you want something special then what do you do? Steve reckons the choice has been taken away from you. Michael reckons certain models are becoming unreachable. After this episode the Podcast is on a break until 5 October. Michael explains why at the end.

Ajmal was last here on the 100th episode, and before that as a guest on Owner Stories 3. If you haven’t heard of Flat Cap Driver well that’s Ajmal’s YouTube channel and Instagram about his Porsche 912 and his cheapest 911 in the UK - a ’98 911 Carrera.

So, what’s this episode of PorscheCooled all about then? Well Porsche of course! Ajmal chats about the Porsche events he attended over the UK summer. Michael and Ajmal also discuss about how to get into your first Porsche or 911. Inspired by Bobby on this week’s owner stories Michael and Ajmal chat about the trading up process to get to your dream Porsche.

What else is there? Well, Regrets when buying your first Porsche, buy what you can afford but also buy what you really, really want. Porsche buying dilemmas, choices, and Porsche experiences are all thrown into this week’s episode. Oh, and Ajmal is planning to add another Porsche to his garage - a 986 Boxster. In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 50 of owner stories with Bobby from Portland, Oregon. Like a lot of us Bobby started noticing cars through collecting matchbox as a kid. These including Porsches, Corvettes and Cobras. In the mid ‘80s friends of his neighbours turned up in a black Porsche Turbo with the iconic whale tail. This was the craziest car Bobby ever saw. That was until another of his neighbours’ friends turns up in a white Countach. Seeing these 2 cars together is a memory Bobby has never forgotten. In his mind the Porsche was much sexier, and he instantly fell in love with the 911. A ‘piece of art’ as Bobby remembers it.

Although he loves cars Bobby has always been responsible with his money – he never bought a car that didn’t fit a need. Dreaming of owning a Porsche, Bobby would visit car dealers with Porsches on their lot and test drive them - keeping the childhood memory and his dream alive.

Fast forward a few years Bobby wanted something special. His wife’s car (a 5 Series BMW) didn’t ‘fix the bug’. From that moment on Bobby’s plan was to buy cars with the intention of trading them up to get to his dream car – the 911. He did just that. Bobby traded his 2013 Toyota pickup for a ’69 Camaro, the Camaro to a Factory Five Racing ’65 Shelby Cobra and the Cobra to a Porsche. Each car funding the next purchase as much as possible. Then comes the 911. Bobby has now traded up and reached his goal. Bobby, now owns and drives a 2008 997 Carrera 4S in black with natural brown leather with a 6-speed manual transmission. He could not be happier. This 911 is just how he wanted it.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael and Steve are back chatting all things, Porsche. Actually, that is not entirely correct. There is a slight change of pace this week as Steve is off making the money. Michael chats solo about his stupid flight cancellation, 986 Boxsters, the one million dollar 997 and other Porsche stuff he has noticed during the week.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 49 of owner stories with Bryan from Silicon Valley in California. Bryan fondly remembers his neighbours Porsche 911 in the early 80’s. A car he had the opportunity to ride in as a 6-year-old. This was Bryans first experience in a Porsche.

Bryan’s first car was Honda Accord, BMWs followed including the iconic 90’s 325is, a new 330M sport among others. Life happens, and Porsche was off Bryan’s radar for a while. That was until a few years ago. One day after seeing his colleagues 996 Carrera 4S Bryan started thinking about Porsches again. Although wanting a 911, Bryan decided on a well optioned, Porsche certified, 2018 Macan S as his first Porsche. A great example of the Macan, but after a short period Bryan realised what he really wanted was a 911. He wasted no time, sold this Macan S and put a 911 in his garage. Which 911? Well Bryan is now the owner of a 2001 996 Carrera 2 Cabriolet, in Lapis blue.

In todays PorscheCooled Podcast Michael and Steve are back chatting all things Porsche. Safari cars, are they really daily drivers or just great investments. Michael and Steve chat about a recent well know sale of a Keen Project Safari. Michael contemplates jumping on the white wheel trend. Would it work on his 997? Moving along the chat moves to the 992 GT3 allocation and PTS sound off. It had to be said.

Michael is concerned about his insured versus agreed value of his 997. Steve has a good tip. Michael continues the GT3 values discussion after seeing James @PorschePlatz / RSR Classics post on Porsche Forums Australia. The current estimates of 996.1 GT3’s blew Michael’s mind. Nonetheless, Steve and Michael reckon James’ estimates are pretty spot on.

Slow car fast. Has the perfect appliance (the electric car) made us relook at cars we never though were that great. A rethinking is in progress, flaws are now character traits that are more important than the highest top speed or the fastest 0-60/0-100. Steve says to enjoy and drive these cars (even with their flaws) as long as you can.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 48 of owner stories with Benjamin from Charlotte in North Carolina. Benjamin grew up in Los Angeles, the heart of car culture. As a kid he was into air-cooled Volkswagens. Benjamin bought his first one, a ‘67 Beetle at 14, working on it so it was sorted once he got his license. This is what Benjamin and his friends enjoyed doing, wrenching on cars and rebuilding them. A ‘hack Mechanic’ as he calls it. A passion passed on from his father. Benjamin always aspired to own a Porsche. He loved the look of the 356 and his uncle owned a black 930 and his friend’s brother’s wife drove a 911 SC, both cars he had driven in. Benjamin has always been aware how special Porsches are.

When he started working, he purchased a new VW Scirocco. This car cemented Benjamin’s love of VW’s. Many cars followed including some not so interesting commuter and family cars but also some memorable ones. These included a VW R32, ’71 Mercedes 250 coupe, ’65 VW type 3 Notchback, ’03 E39 BMW M5, ‘07 BMW M coupe to list a few.

So how did his first Porsche come about? Well, Benjamin’s wife suggested they sell their current BMW and get something that he really wanted. With no convincing needed, he decided he wanted a 993 generation 911 - air-cooled, analogue yet comfortable. At the end of 2020 Benjamin purchased his first Porsche, a ‘95 911 C2 in Aventurine Green. A dream 911 but Benjamin didn’t stop there. Since then he has also has added a 2003 Boxster S to his garage.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael and Steve chat about all things Porsche of course. To begin, Michael and Steve reflect on the quality of other cars. Quite relevant as Michael is currently driving a MG in Bahrain. Have they become Porsche snobs? The lockdown is impacting Steve’s Porsche enjoyment and he has succumbed to doing laps around his neighbourhood circle. Michael looks back at the rarity of the 993 Speedster with its 2 only examples and ponders the impact of the newly launched 993 Speedster remastered by Gunther Werks will have.

To end, Steve wonders that since the 996 headlight design has become accepted and even popular again, would Porsche ever ‘throwback’ and do this headlight style again? Will it come full circle? An interesting thought that’s for sure.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 47 of owner stories with Matt from Victoria in Australia. Matt’s introduction to Porsche was seeing a ‘80s Carrera owned by a family friend. A rare sight at the time. From that moment on Matt knew he wanted a Porsche at some time in his life. Growing up Matt was always a car guy. His first car, a ’75 Mazda 929 was a car he loved for 10 years and modified to make it just right. Matt also has a passion for Renault Sport owning a Clio 182 Cup then a Clio R27, Matt really fell for the brand. A family car followed, with a Volvo T5, practical but still enthusiast orientated.

Moving out of Melbourne Matt got the hankering again for a Renault. He now has a Clio 172 and Megane 250 cup. Matt likes to tweak the performance of his cars. Which he has done to both the Renaults. The two Renault’s now share the garage with his first and newly acquired Porsche.

So how did the 911 come about? Well, whilst admiring a 911 turbo at his local shops Matt had a chance encounter with a Porsche enthusiast and neighbour. A few years later his now friend sold Matt his 1999 911 Carrera 2 in Arena red with the rare X51 power option. A Porsche Matt was now familiar with, and a car that was never really for sale. Matt couldn’t be happier.

In todays PorscheCooled Podcast Michael and Steve are chatting about what makes us stick with Porsche. Other car brands including Aston, Mercedes and now Lotus with the Emira seem to want to take on Porsche. Porsche beaters? In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 46 of owner stories with Marco from Sydney, Australia. Marco is a car enthusiast and a name you would have heard thrown about the podcast. Growing up Marco wasn’t exposed to Porsches, it was mainly Aussie cars – Fords and Holdens. As Marco explains ‘Porsche snuck its way into his life through Matchbox.’ A 911 cabriolet matchbox that Marco still has. His first car was a hand me down Ford laser, a car Marco loved and a car that taught him ‘Whatever you have take pride in and love.’ When it came to buy his first real and exciting car Marco overlooked the Japanese “fast and Furious’ trend at the time as he really loved German cars. This was the beginning for Marco. He purchased a VW MKIV Golf, a new car at the time. This was the start of his VW and air-cooled journey.

Although Marco always thought his first Porsche would be an ‘80s air-cooled he end up with a 2012 Cayenne S. This Porsche was more about family priorities. Mid last year Marco decided that the time was right for a 911. Marco loves the 993 generation 911, but turned down a 993 cabriolet. Nonetheless, Marco ended up with something very special. A well looked after, low mileage example of the 996.1 generation Porsche 911 turbo in iconic speed yellow. As soon as Marco saw it, he knew he couldn’t walk away from this one.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 45 of owner stories with Alan from Antwerp in Belgium. Alans Porsche Journey started later in life. He doesn’t have Porsche memories from his childhood although at around 18 he fondly remembers a 964 at a car meet - a relatively new 911 at the time. Alan has always been passionate about cars. He trained as a mechanic and specialised in early generations of the VW Golf from Mk1 to Mk3. Following that Alan followed his passion and went to work in a Body shop, eventually ending up in sales. Of course, he has owned many VW Golfs in many forms as well as being involved in the tuner scene in Antwerp. Not only that Alan is an automotive photographer and had a lot of Porsches in front of his lens.

The need for an ‘Old Timer’ led him to a W201 Mercedes, a car he still owns and drives today. Given Alans passion, his first Porsche had to be something special. At the start of 2019 Alan found just that car, a slightly modified 1978 Porsche 924 in 4 speed manual. It was lowered, painted in Audi Nardo grey with the 944 rear wing. It had a few minor issues but to Alan it ‘just looked fantastic’ and he had to have it.

Michael has been out drinking with Nick from Owner Stories #1, Steve’s babies are crying but the show must go on. Steve questions the increased use of plastics on new Porsche models. What’s the reason – who knows.

Steve is entering another four weeks of lockdown in Sydney. To save his brain being fried he is thinking of Porsche things to do. A few minutes are wasted on the sins of Porsche ownership, Michael doubts it all the way through but still he continues. To end, are Porsches becoming mainstream? Well, Michael and Steve have an interesting point of view. Oh, and don’t worry they still love Porsche.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 44 of owner stories with Pete from Minnesota in the U.S. Pete’s car story is a good one. Pete’s father was a car guy switching between Corvettes and Cadillac’s. These are the cars he grew up with. Pete never had any aspiration to get into sports cars let alone Porsches, not because he disliked them, but they just didn’t fit his lifestyle. This changed when his buddy Mike, sadly passed last year. Pete wasn’t in the market for a 911 but after seeing Mikes 2000 911 Carrera 2 he purchased it from Mikes estate. Pete mentions that it ‘just made sense’ and with the support of his friend as well as Mikes brother he bought it without hesitation. Not in the market for a 911 the car has made a big impact on his life. Not to mention, having Mikes brother as his best friend (who also has a 996) it has turned into a hobby and a passion they are now sharing together.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael and Steve are back chatting about all things Porsche. To begin with Steve is back onto his Porsche knobs and Michael is buying more books but not about Porsche this time. Steve gives an update on his new battery for his 997 GT3 and was initially surprised by the cost. The Embargo on the new 992 GT3 touring was lifted so reviews are flooding the internet, Michael and Steve share their thoughts. This week’s main chat is not about values. It’s more about feeling comfortable where you buy your Porsche. After seeing the crazy results of Singers and Ferraris sold recently at online auctions at what point would you stop? Or would you buy online in the first place? Michael and Steve’s answer may surprise you. To end Michael gets upset about a 912 that sold. Steve reckons that is normal.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 43 of owner stories with Daniel from Brisbane in Australia. Living in Hong Kong as a kid Daniel saw some interesting cars. One particular memory was going to look at a Porsche 924 GT in a carpark in Hong Kong. This was a car his dad was interested in at the time and a very special car in Daniel’s memory. Daniel’s passion includes motorbikes, having owned a Ducati Monster for some time. He has also owned an Alfa, a car he sold in preparation for his first Porsche.

Owning and enjoying a Motorbike has affected Daniel’s interest in cars. It’s not about the blistering outright performance but the experience, and how you enjoy the performance you have. So, Daniel hasn’t been trying to find Porsche that’s ‘blistering fast’ - its more about the era and the experience on the road. This led Daniel to look at transaxle Porsches and more specifically the 944, a car he has always wanted. After a few searches Daniel found the right car, he know owns and enjoys a Garnet Red 1985 Porsche 994 in manual.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael and Steve are back chatting about all things Porsche. What is it with modern day thinking and stressing over rising mileage. Steve reckons times have changed. There is no point burning your money if you hold back and don’t experience your car fully. Michael thinks mileage matters to some, but 911 demand may matter more. On hindsight, especially after being away from his 911, Michael has some regrets about not experiencing it fully. With rising 911 values would Steve or Michael consider taking a high offer and selling their prized 997’s.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 42 of owner stories with Jeremy from the Cotswolds in the UK. Jeremy’s Porsche journey started when he was around 10 years old when his uncle took him for a ride in a Guards Red 930 Turbo. Jeremy still has the photograph sitting in this iconic Porsche 911. An image he keeps a copy of under the sun visor in his 911 Carrera reminding him ‘where it all started and where he is now.’ Along with memories of the 930 turbo Jeremy fondly remembers a 924S owned by the local dentist his mother worked for.

Jeremys first Porsche didn’t come straight away. His first car at 17 was an Alfa Romeo Alfasud. A couple of Triumph Spitfires followed along with a Toyota MR2 and numerous Mercedes and BMWs. All part of Jeremys journey to his first Porsche. In 2016 his first Porsche became a reality when he ordered a new 718 Boxster. Jeremy loved his first Porsche putting 70,000 miles on it in 4 years. The Boxster was a ‘steppingstone’ as what he really wanted was a 911. In February 2020 Jeremy placed an order on a white 992 Porsche 911 and his childhood dream came true.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael and Steve start talking about colour. Michael listened to an old SCR Podcast with Seinfeld during the week and now understands why 912 prices may have gone crazy – the Seinfeld Effect. Michael reckons he would never buy a VW beetle, Steve would as he sees it’s the beginning of the 911. Michael also said that about the Porsche 356 and is now a fan. As is Steve, who likes the purity of its form.

Continuing on, Michael and Steve ponder that maybe less GT3’s are sold than you think - well in Australia anyway. Steve gets his wife’s Macan Turbo serviced – nothing exciting there. What was exciting is that whilst Steve was at Autohaus Hamilton in Sydney he spotted a very rare ’73 RS lightweight in iconic Porsche orange. Cool! So where does the Podcast end up? Michael and Steve dig deep on this one – ‘Once you buy a Porsche there is no other car.’ Hard to explain but so true. Steve ends the podcast by sharing his Porsche nightmare and his best Porsche dream in the world. Living and breathing Porsche, that’s what the podcast is all about

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 41 of owner stories with Mark from North Carolina in the U.S. Growing Mark’s dad had (as he puts it) had “functional cars, not fancy cars”. Marks first memories of Porsche are those iconic scenes in the ‘80’s movie ‘Risky Business’ with the Porsche 928 S. Not to mention Prom night and seeing his friend take off in his dads ‘80s 911 Turbo. After this Mark was hooked. This was pre-Internet, so Mark started researching Porsche, fuelling his passion through car magazines.

Marks’s passion and desire to own a Porsche 911 one day made him set a goal. His dad was big on goals, so mark set one for himself. In the early 90’s Mark opened what he called his ‘Porsche account’. He saved what he could, not dipping into the funds until he could buy his first Porsche. Earlier this year that’s exactly what happened. Some twenty years or so later Mark used his Porsche account funds and bought himself his first 911; a 2008 997.1 Carrera 4s Cabriolet. A Goal and dream achieved and a great PorscheCooled owner story.

Michael still has Porsche maintenance on his mind and asks Steve what extra service items he would look at if /when the 911 engine must be dropped. How do you stop the ‘while you’re in there’ scenario from emptying your wallet. Back to the 996. It seems that other car enthusiasts are starting to look at the 966 generation 911. Does a 996/911 have it all over a performance sedan/coupe such as a BMW M3. Well, it depends.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 40 of owner stories with Stewart from Melbourne in Australia. Stewarts Porsche journey started late in life. As a kid in the early 2000’s he gained an appreciation of Porsche from playing the game “Need for Speed – Porsche Unlimited. It’s evident early in the podcast that Stewart has a passion for cars and “is into anything with wheels”.

His first car was his grandfathers ’74 Ford Transit which he got when he was 15, a car he will never part with. A 1974 XB Ford Falcon GT followed. An Australian Modern classic muscle car which he has owned since he was 19. Since 2010 Stewart started thinking about getting a Porsche 911. His brother helped him along by giving him the book the “History of the 911”. By 2014 it was serious. In 2015 he found his first 911 an Iris Blue 85 911 Carrera 3.2 coupe in California. That’s not the end of the story, Stewart and his brother travelled to the US and picked up the car before shipping back to Australia. This is where the Porsche journey begins.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael and Steve chat about the new 992 GT3 with Touring Package. Before we start, Michael is thinking about a better steering wheel to cheer himself up. Steve is still waiting for his new knobs for his 997 GT3 and Michael has solved his servicing dilemma from last week. Back to the new GT3 Touring. Michael and Steve like it and want one. Although when it comes to the Australian Limited Edition GT3 Touring Michael is not sure about a couple of details. Steve doesn’t hate it either but reckons Porsche needs to hire a better graphics guy. By the way, Steve is willing and available Porsche! To end, Steve is sick of talking Porsche prices but the recent increase in 964s deserves a mention. Especially now with Singer entering the Australian market.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 39 of owner stories with David from Auckland in New Zealand. David (like many of us) saw his first Porsche in a magazine when he was a kid. The first 911 David still remembers seeing in the flesh was a new silver 911 Carrera 3.0 optioned with tartan trim. David was blown away. Fast forward through practical and reliable cars, many European hot hatches, MX5s and BMWs before a 911 was added to David’s garage

At 39 David bought his first Porsche, a low mileage 993 Carrera coupe in Silver. A 964 followed. Both these cars are no longer in David’s garage. What is in his garage though, is 1970 911T in Signal Orange. A car that started off as a ‘bit of a wreck’ and has been transformed to a ‘Hot Rod’ 911T. A fully restored and custom ‘70’s 911 powered with a 3.2 Carrera engine. Alongside this is his ’83 911SC Sport, a UK car with the Pasha interior. Then there is the under the radar ’77 Ferrari Dino 308 GT4 which fits perfectly alongside David’s 911s. Having owned 4 generations of air-cooled cars, David has a great story to tell.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Steve and Michael address the ‘911 Centric’ comment about the podcast. Are they really 911 elitist? Oh, Steve is ill, but we won’t get into that. Michael doesn’t understand the need for a GT4RS, Steve doesn’t necessarily agree. Michael puts Steve on the spot about front engine Porsches and he can’t believe Steve has bought another knob. Michael ends the podcast with chatting about his servicing stress. This leads into how to pick a good Porsche Indy mechanic and build a relationship.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 38 of owner stories with Steven from Sydney Australia. Steven has always been a car guy even though growing up on an island in the Pacific where there were not many cars. Nonetheless, the cars that were imported there during the ‘70’s were special. As a kid Steven remembers seeing iconic Australian muscle cars been driven on the tiny mainly dirt roads on the island. This fuelled his passion. Fast forward a few years and Steven starting his career for Qantas in Sydney. During this time Steven regularly saw pilots’ cars parked including 930 turbos and Ferraris. This was love at first sight for Steven but like all of us at 17 it was always how do we get there?

Steven’s car journey includes performance cars and bikes, his first memorable car being a Mazda RX4 - a car he raced. A Datsun 1600 rally car he owned with a friend followed. This was a car which Steven honed his driving skills. First Porsche? Well, that was a Macan S a few years back followed by his first 911, a 1998 911 Cabriolet. Recently Steven added another Porsche to his garage a 1966 SWB 912. Not just any 912, a 912 that was a 6 year labour of love for the previous owner. Steven is yet to see his ‘hot rod’ 912 as it was without a working engine and is in the process of being rebuilt to something even better than before.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 37 of owner stories with Ben from Sheffield in the UK. Ben has owned a few Porsches over the years. Like a lot of owners he tried leaving Porsche a few times (usually to buy an M3) but always came back. Why? Well Ben loves the iconic features of Porsche especially the sound. From that first 911 Turbo with the signature Whale Tail he spotted daily on his way to school Ben knew he wanted one.

Fast forward quite a few years and Ben made that dream come true. His first Porsche was a 986 Boxster, then a while later another Boxster but this time a 987 Boxster S, updated from his first car with more power and sound. Ben said he is always looking for the next thing. Well with a E92 BMW M3 coming next due to practicality it wasn’t long before Ben was back in a Porsche. His 911 itch was scratched with a well option 997.2 Carrera 4S. So, what is Ben driving today, well he always wanted another Boxster and was always on the look-out for the pinnacle of the range – the Boxster Spyder. This may well be the best Porsche Ben has ever had.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael and Steve chat about the generation gap. A topic Michael only thought of 5 mins before recording. So, what’s is it all about? Well, closing the gap. What gap? The gap between the 996 and 997 generation 911 and how 991 values may increase due to the ‘butch’ 992 as Steve calls it. Tyre talk returns for a second as Marco’s yellow 996 turbo gets updated rubber .Michael now understands the ‘N” rating and why he thinks it is so important. Porsche talk continues with Michael getting distracted on his second Porsche quest with 993 Targas and the 991.2 GT3 being thrown into the mix. Oh, and what’s the 911 Steve regrets selling the most – his 993 Carrera 2.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 36 of owner stories with Bernard from Brisbane in Australia. From that first Porsche 911 he saw as a 7 year old to seeing the first Boxster years later. Bernard started feeling the Porsche passion at a young age. His hero / poster cars were the 993 Turbo in Arena red and the Ferrari 355. His first Porsche was at 22 when he took the plunge and purchased an iconic guards red 944S2. A well cared for and very low mileage example. He dabbled in VW’s owning a GTI as well as a few BMW’s including an M3 competition. Bernard has recently come back to Porsche, and his poster car the 911. This year he purchased a well optioned 911 Carrera 2. A 991.1 generation 911 in the rare and unique Anthracite brown.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael and Steve chat about the real value of your Porsche. Before we get there Michael is in a bit of a rut and the episode starts off a bit slow. Steve has ditched his kids again to share his passion on the podcast – thanks Cindy! Steve rationalises why he needed to change out his wheels and purchase new tyres. Adding to that, Michael wants to know if Steve would ever mix tyres. Enough of tyres, so what’s living with a 997 / 911 all about? Michael thinks Bob from owner stories 35 this week has the right attitude about Porsche ownership / experience. Porsche value is on so many levels. Michael thinks maybe he needs to change it up once he gets back to his 911.

In Bob’s words “to get the real value out of it, to really enjoy it, you have to use it.” Bob has always been into cars enjoying some iconic ones along the way including a ‘90’s BMW 325i he purchased new. His first Porsche was a 997 C4S, his second a 991.1 C4 and his latest and third 911, the 991.2 GT3. This one is no different to the other 911s Bob has owned - daily driven, road and track , and thoroughly enjoyed. That’s what I call Porsche Passion.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 34 of owner stories with Simon from Adelaide in Australia. Simon’s first introduction to Porsche was as a kid when his dad purchased a ‘82 Porsche 928S. Simon’s car journey started with a shared Honda, but his ‘first car’ was a Japanese import (and very rare) Toyota Supra. Fast forward a few years and Simon purchased a Lotus Exige before he purchased his first Porsche. Once he felt comfortable, Simon went all in here and bought a 996 GT3. A car which had been set up for the track by the previous owner, just what Simon wanted. Simons friends started buying 911 cup cars so that’s what eventually followed. Simon found a 03 911 (996) Cup car, a car he is still enjoying today. That’s not the end of the story. For the first couple of years Simon did not miss the road going GT3 at all, that has now changed, and he recently acquired a 996.2 GT3.

His father worked on cars, he drew cars, and he made sure he always had the latest car magazines. Porsches always stood out for Jon; it was that iconic silhouette not to mention the sound. Before his first Porsche, Jon’s car ownership has been focussed. He liked and own iconic drivers’ cars from the R32 GTR, Mitsubishi Evo VI Makinen Edition and the BMW M2. Jon setup the M2 to experience and enjoy track days at the Nordschleife. This leads us to his choice of Porsche, a 996.2 GT3 Clubsport in Speed Yellow. Why the 996 GT3? Well, Jon wanted something more analog and his first 911 definitely delivers.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 26 of owner stories with PJ from London. PJ shares a great owner’s story. Growing up, his Parents were fortunate enough to have had nicer cars, all of which he hated. This led him to buy the polar opposite, a VW beetle. PJ’s love of VW’s continued with 1957 VW panel vans, ’59 VW single cabs and many more, all part of his classic car journey. His first car a right hand drive beetle in Beryl green PJ still owns today. Then came the Porsches, first a 944, then a 912 and finally his dream car a 1957 Porsche 356A T1 coupe in white. Why the 356A? Well in PJ’s words it was the ‘shape the simplicity, everything I would have looked for in a car’.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 25 of owner stories with Eric from North Carolina in the U.S. From a childhood memory of walking home and seeing a red air-cooled 911, Eric now has two Porsches. This all came about last year after Eric started researching and educating himself on the brand . For his very first Porsche (and 911) Eric focused in on the first generation of the 997. What resulted was the delivery of a 2008 997 C2S in seal grey. In Eric’s words ‘ it was ‘like a dream’, a dream that didn’t end there. Just over a month later Eric added to his Porsche collection with a 986 Boxster S. This was going to be his fun car a car and one he would mod.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 19 of owner stories with Jack from the UK. From growing up loving cars and motorcycles Jack has never been scared of taking a chance. To date jack has owned a few Porsches, American cars and many motorcycles.

The tale of Jack’s 'sunburnt lobster 911' is a good one. One Sunday evening whilst day-dreaming about owning a classic air-cooled Porsche, Jack found a unique and well patinaed 1976 911 S on Pelican Parts. Not to be deterred by its well-worn silver paint nor it’s Lobster red tweed interior, Jack started the conversation with the owner in the U.S. The rest is history and Jack is now the proud owner of an air-cooled 911.

We all know that Porsche ownership is very personal and the ’76 911S that Jack found was his day-dream 'perfect' car.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 15 of owner stories with Nick from the UK. Influenced by his Aunty's beetle especially 'its noise and air-cooled clatter' Porsche and classics have always been on top of Nick's list. We should mention he also owns a very cool ‘70’s Series III Land Rover alongside his recently acquired ’68 Porsche 912. A great two car garage that’s for sure! Like most of us, Nick never thought he we would own a Porsche. So, a few Porsches and years later, having owned Boxsters and a 944, Nick now owns his first Air-cooled Porsche - a 912 imported from the U.S. Nick reckons he just got lucky finding a good one, but it seems that the research, getting to know the seller (and the car) albeit remotely all contributed to a rewarding experience.

On top of all that Nick’s passion for classic cars extends into photographing and writing about them. A passion he shares with the community through his classicsforcarers.com , an event he founded to support the National Health Service (NHS) in the UK.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 14 of owner stories with Todd from the Chicago area in the U.S. Todd has always been interested in cars, both maintaining and restoring them. His last car was a ’72 Ford Mustang Mach 1, far removed from his recently acquired 1957 356A (T1) ‘barn find’. How did this all come about? Well, the 356A was spotted by Todd’s buddy and had been sitting dormant in a garage for the last 43 years. A one off find, and in surprisingly good condition, Todd has already begun restoration of his 356 outlaw project. A rewarding and unique experience for Todd and a great PorscheCooled owners’ story.

Steve thinks his GT3 was looking a bit 'Porsche tragic' but not anymore. Michael considers hiring a restored 912 in London. What else? Oh, 911 suspension tweaks and aftermarket lift kits are pondered.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 12 of owner stories with Marc from Perth in Western Australia. Marc is a true Porsche enthusiast, sharing his passion through his Instagram @MarcandCars and his YouTube channel. I was keen to have Marc on owner stories to get an insight in what it's like to own and drive a 1960's Porsche. Marc's car is a 356B (T5) from 1960 optioned in Ruby Red with Black Leatherette interior. A matching numbers car, and in its original colour, it really is a beautiful example. If you are thinking of buying a classic Porsche from this period then Marc's insight after eight years of ownership is interesting and invaluable.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 11 of owner stories with Paul from Auckland in New Zealand. This is a longer episode today and for a good reason. Paul is not only just driving and experiencing two great Porsches, he is also the president of the Porsche club of New Zealand. Paul’s first vivid childhood memory of Porsche was the iconic 930 turbo. Not only that, his Father also had Porsche passion and owned many Porsches during Paul's childhood. The love of Porsche rubbed off and Paul has been immersed in Porsche ever since. His current garage includes a period correct 911 3.2 Carrera G50 in Guards red and a 997.2 Carrera GTS, 6 speed in white - a car he imported from the UK. Oh, and there is another car in his garage that can be compared with the ’80’s 911s, that is the 1987 Ferrari 328 GTS.

Welcome back to another PorscheCooled Podcast.

Today we are discussing wheels - Porsche wheels. Today with modern 911s there are so many choices but that has not always been the case. In the 1970's and 1980's and even with the 964 generation 911 in the 1990's you only had a couple of choices for factory wheels. So, what's the best 911 wheel? Well it's very subjective and not an easy question to answer. Personally I think the 997 generation Carrera S wheel will become as iconic as the Fuchs and cookie cutters from the '70's and '80's, Steve disagrees and explains his passion behind 911 wheel choices as well as his current GT3 wheels.

Steve (@gtst3ve) is a Porsche owner and enthusiast from Sydney, Australia. Steve has owned 3 generations of the Porsche 911 including air and water cooled. Today I thought we could talk about Porsche options, you know that endless list on the Porsche online configurator when specifying your new Porsche 992 911. Does a fully optioned 911 really add to the 911 / Porsche experience? Isn't owning a 911 more about the drive?

We also chat about my week, plans and the Porsche 912 - again.

Reports are it is inevitable that the Porsche 911 will eventually become a hybrid, if not a full electric vehicle in the years to come. Originally rumoured to be launched at the refresh of the 992 generation this may now be delayed by a few years. Of course Porsche only gives out limited information so at the moment we are only guessing. Based upon the recent success of the Taycan,  maybe the electric 911 wont still be the elephant in the room in the years to come. Of course all good things take time and Porsche will not want to lose the essence, heritage and design of the 911.

Welcome back to another PorscheCooled Podcast.

An extra episode for this week as I have a lot to chat about. To start with let's revisit the 996 generation of the Porsche 911. The hype of this 911 is growing so rapidly. So much so, that if you don't buy one soon you may end up spending a lot more cash just to get behind the wheel. Unfortunately, this has not helped by the multitude of people on YouTube completing 996 'projects'. The bottom line for this generation of 911? Is the price to value ratio of the Porsche 996 generation still appealing?

We also chat about the classic market and how it seems to be growing even through the Pandemic. The same can't be said for the new car market. Finally, what is more important - experience or speed? Which is relevant to my current 912 obsession.

Thanks for listening.

The 991 generation Porsche 911 was the 7th generation of the iconic sports car. From the launch of the 991.1 and then the preceding 991.2 mid-cycle update, the 991 generation was in production from from 2011 to 2019. During this time it spawned around 29 variations including two race or not for the road models. In todays podcast we look at what I think are the top 5 Porsche 991 variants.

In todays curated world we sometimes get hung up on perfection. So this leads to the question - do we really need to search out a used 911 with low or no miles? Honestly, the 911 you drive now is the one you should want. Not some unobtainable example to put on show and share online.Isn't the essence of Porsche and the 911 all about the drive? The Porsche sports car is a tool. A tool fit for a purpose. A never driven immaculate example of a Porsche 911 is not doing its job and may not be the best buying proposition.
