When a church family is on ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ, it is reflected in all the messages before the message!! It is reflected throughout the church property and building and people long before Jesus is honored in the sanctuary.
In Matthew 5:13-16, Jesus calls us salt and light! In this message, the Holy Spirit illuminates what it looks like to live as God’s light.
In Matthew 5:13-16 Jesus says that we are salt and light in this world. He doesn’t say we’re trying to become salt but rather that we are salt! Humility is the one thing that has to be present to receive. It will open the way to discover all that He is and all He has given you. In this teaching Gretchen Cannon shares how humility towards God must be demonstrated in relationships with people, as well as, some characteristics of humility. Jesus knew everything that was coming against Him, and He chose to humble Himself and wash the disciples’ feet. In Philippians, Paul writes that we should have this same attitude that Jesus had. We live in a western version of Christianity that has allowed many to reenact a major blunder of God’s people from Exodus 20:18-19. The children of Israel told Moses that he should talk to God for them instead of them walking out their own relationship with Him. Jesus paid an incredible price to abolish the veil of separation so everyone could walk intimately with God’s Spirit! This is the New Covenant and therefore our birthright to walk with God personally without need of a “go between.”

Jesus demonstrated with His own life what He spoke about often that true life comes out of death. In Luke 9, Jesus tells us to deny ourselves and that if we lose our own life we will find life. When you learn to die to yourself in the moment it may look and feel like death but it opens up to a beautiful life that expresses itself in self-giving ways. When Jesus died it sure just looked like death to everyone, but three days later a glorious life was manifested! He invites us all into this way of being, this same pattern of life and on the surface to our self-centered culture it looks crazy, but on the backside of the self-denial and making Jesus Lord what we find is a kind of life to the fullest. It is a whole new way to live, be and think and it ends in looking more like Jesus!

One of the ways we deny ourselves is to “not receive honor from men” as Jesus stated in John 5:41. When we seek approval from people rather than from God, Jesus said if hinders our faith and obedience! Get so rooted and grounded in God’s love for you that it removes all fear of men’s faces!

He was bringing a definite shift - outward conformity to rules with no real inward bent towards God’s Spirit & Person means very little to Him. Many of us try to change for others, our spouse, or even get manipulated by others to change or improve but it is maturity from a circumcised heart that truly produces lasting results! The Lord’s first goal in maturing us is to awaken a strong desire within each of us to mature and become more like Christ. Once we make that heartfelt and heart first decision, then comes the discipline to walk it out, because it is a process for us to be more like Jesus. In Judges 6, Gideon builds an altar named, “The Lord is Peace” BEFORE his enemies had been defeated! So many times we wait until God’s deliverance before we enter rest and peace but the Lord desires to be our Peace in the midst of any storm! Shalom (peace) means a total sense of well-being no matter what is going on around you. Listen and be at rest in God!

As human beings, we face all kinds of battles regarding sickness – of the soul, of the mind, of the emotions, and of the body. In the battle of David and Goliath, David gives God a doorway into the natural realm to fight on Israel’s behalf! The God of the angel armies shows up and shows out through David as God reveals Himself as the One who fights are battles! David knew Goliath did not belong to the family of Almighty God nor was he in His covenant. He also knew Goliath was not mocking him but actually the God of Israel (Jehovah Tsaba) and that gave Him great confidence to step out on the battlefield!

God’s Names throughout Scripture reveal to us His amazing desire that we know Him! He also wants us to understand that He is our Source for all things. In the case of Jehovah Tsidkenu out of Jeremiah 23:6, He makes known to His people that He is our Source for Righteousness! Think about it – there is no such thing as a self based righteousness only a Christ based righteousness. That means our inner stance with God does not fluctuate with our outer missteps!!

Of all the Names of God, Immanuel may be the most important because Jesus Christ encompasses all that God is! Colossians 2:9 says He is, “the fullness of God in bodily form.” In Christ you have the miracle of One who is, “Fully God but also fully man.” We read in one text Jesus is thirsty for water because He is fully man, but then we read He walks on water because He is fully God.” Listen and be blessed!
