Santiago is from Spain. Kaira is from the US. Both are pilgrims. They were pilgrims before they met each other on the Camino... but, just as with life, when your heart is open and your mind is curious, unexpected things can happen. This is their story.
Today, they live and work in the Portland, Oregon area.

Join Tony and 3 special guests as they explore all the ins and outs of walking the Camino de Santiago from the perspective of peregrinos who are heading over many hills, but not quite over the hill. It’s a lively conversation about preparation, trepidation and all out joy from this amazing experience
Meditation-in-motion, as in the case of long-distance trekking, is very much the process of moving in and out of discomfort, fear and resistance. Join the conversation with Dr. Jeremiah Gibbs of the University of Indianapolis who is a long-time journeyer along both the Camino de Santiago and the Appalachian Trail. A veteran of taking more than 100 first-time pilgrims on long treks and all the transformative themes therein.
Dr. Gibbs is also an avid trainer of Camino pilgrims online through his practical teachings on packing, prepping and planning.
Dr, Douglas O'Heir, podiatrist and trekking from the French and Spanish Caminos and the Appalachian Trail, shares his expertise and studies on healthy trekking and specifically foot care: shoe selection, body knowledge, preparation exercises and insights into building a first aid kit. In addition to this conversation, he also provides some must-have reports for free for everyone in our community. This was a dialogue that I needed. I hope it is for you as well. Listen and learn.
On today's special episode, Cherokee descendant Dr. Randy Woodley, renowned author and scholar in the realms of culture, justice, theology, indigenous traditions and earth-care, joins Pilgrim Lost to share his encouragements on how we can engage and transform through connecting with the non-human world: plants, creatures and the soil. Our conversation covers numerous topics from walking practices, our non-human neighbors, earth greetings, mystical encounters and he even gives his perspectives on the historically problematic term "pilgrim".

Today's conversation is shared with Jeremy Vallerand, CEO of Rescue Freedom International. At PL we intertwine our pilgrim story with our friends and we discover that the strangers we pass along The Way are in fact characters in our story as well. Jeremy takes the time to show how our story can and does include strangers on the other side of the world: the marginalized, the oppressed and the enslaved. He also shares his passion for climbing/trekking adventures and how he founded an Adventure Philanthropy organization called Climb for Captives.
Please join this rich conversation. Also, please follow the podcast and soon our YouTube page, share these conversations with friends, comment on posts and write us with your questions, pilgrim dreams and podcast ideas.

Get lost with Justin Skeesuck and Patrick Gray from the award-winning film "I'll Push You," a story of two friends, one wheelchair bound who wanted to experience all 500 miles of the Camino de Santiago and the other who said, "I'll Push You."
In this surprisingly honest episode, you will join a conversation about authenticity, vulnerability, loyalty and human connection... because ultimately, life is the great pilgrimage.
El Camino de Santiago Is dust and mud, sun and rain, Trod by pilgrims in their thousands For more than a thousand years.
This episode is about two of them.
This is maybe the most important episode in Pilgrim Lost's story. Please join us for an honest discussion of limitation, loss, and saying goodbye... goodbye to cherished chapters, to future dreams, and to one of the co-founders of Pilgrim Lost.
Kari and Tony return to catch up with each other and with all of you after a month of unforgettable life experiences. The discussion focuses on meaning and how the experience of meaning is as much a lifestyle as it is circumstantial. In this episode... HOME is more than a place you live, POST-PANDEMIC is more than a "get out of jail free" card and TRAVEL is more than an opportunity to fill a scrapbook.
Wanderlust: where does it come from? Why do some people have it and others seemingly do not? Is it the product of nature or nurture? Is it seasonal or a lifelong affection? Join the conversation as Kari and Tony explore the human experience of wanderlust, filled with their stories and their desires for a better world.
Kari and Tony ponder how a pilgrim engages reentry. Quarantine is coming to an end, masks are coming off and more and more places are opening up. Reentry can affect us in profound ways. If we are attentive to it, our understanding of ourselves, our space, our time, and our neighbors can increase and even be enriched.

Relationships are a pilgrimage and pilgrims cannot control who they encounter along the way. This week Kari and Tony discuss conversations with those who come from a markedly different political, cultural or spiritual perspective. How do we foster peacemaking? How do we experience wholeness both within ourselves as well as within the space we inhabit with the "other"?

Talking with guest Tom Stutzman about labyrinths, linguistics, liminality and longings. From the Camino to community, Tom is both our companion and counselor on the pilgrim journey.
This week on Pilgrim Lost, Kari and Tony discuss their journeys out of individualism and into an embrace of the dangerous dance called "Community."
This week on Pilgrim Lost we are joined by the lovely Charlie Rawson, a geographer and choreographer, who hails from across the pond in Bristol, England. Kari and Charlie tell the very magical story of how a Scottish Isle, the Camino and ultimately THE UNIVERSE brought them together to form a deep and lasting friendship. Charlie recounts some memories from her own pilgrimage in 2016, and also shares the simple transformative practice she employs daily that was birthed in those 500 miles walking across Spain.
In this, Pilgrim Lost’s 10th episode, Kari and Tony discuss the distinctions between being ‘nice’ and being ‘kind,’ what ‘words’ they are carrying into the new decade, the magic of blue zones and how they relate to pilgriming and how to lose all the weight you want on an alcohol-based diet.
Ok. The last one is just wishful thinking. Sorry to get carried away.
On their last podcast of 2019, Kari and Tony dive into the nice and the naughty of the holidays from a pilgrim point of view. Listen in to learn how to avoid the ‘get more stuff’ mindset, give more meaningfully and enter into those challenging family settings with an important and powerful pilgrim perspective.
In this episode, Kari and Tony delve a bit further into the ideas behind minimalism and the ‘weight’ of our possessions. Kari shares about her upcoming art show and how it was birthed as a direct result of her participation in #the100dayproject on Instagram. She discusses how engaging in a creative practice for 100 days impacted her work and her mindset, and reveals why sometimes, you actually need more s*%t.
We are ecstatic! In this episode we are chatting with, Bryce Langston, the star of the viral YouTube show, “Living Big in a Tiny House.”
Bryce explores with us the power of minimalism (an essential component of the pilgrim-life). We discuss house-porn, cultural addictions and yes, Biophylic Design. Curious? Please join in on the conversation.
And, FYI, stay tuned to “Living Big in a Tiny House” because Kari and her tiny house are the subject of an episode coming soon.
The pilgrimage along the Camino de Santiago could not be more religious. It is saturated in Christian history, dotted with churches catering to pilgrim needs, adorned with religious symbols at every turn and accompanied by the sounds of church bells and yet... most of the people who walk it would never darken a church in normal life. The vast majority of co-pilgrims we met would comfortably fall into the categories of unreligious or post-religious (the "uns" and "nones") and yet they unanimously call this unapologetically Christian journey among the most significant, meaningful and transformative experiences of their lives. Join our conversation about why that might be true.
Part 2 of the conversation in which Kari and Tony remember and recount a day in the life along the Camino Frances on the actual Camino de Santiago in Northern Spain.
Pilgrim Lost is an exploration of life in hopeful motion... in the everyday... in the average day... and in the commonness of life. This podcast is something quite different (but entirely related.) Come along as Kari and Tony remember and recount a day in the life along the Camino Frances on the actual Camino de Santiago in Northern Spain.
Pilgrim Lost has officially launched! In this episode we reflect on our Portland Pilgrimage yesterday, why it was important, and some epiphanies from those that walked with us that will touch any pilgrim’s heart.
This episode is an audio invitation to join Kari and Tony on a very special event on September 29, 2019: our launch party. At 2pm we will meet at the Rose Quarter (at the “Crown Statue”) and experience together a walk through Portland’s Old Town and Downtown. It will be a pilgrimage of personal meaning. Later, starting around 5pm, we will gather at 608 NE Graham St. for an open house. Please listen to all the romping fun.
The story of how Pilgrim Lost came to be born into the imagination of Kari and Tony. A playful conversation between the podcast's creators.
