Not one of my usual disco routines but in fact a set list I found from 2005 which I have re-created and mixed up all over again. Part 1 was the prime-time set and this second part pushes up the tempo a notch which would have been happening from around 3am onwards. This collection kicks off with Shakedown's classic "At night" and goes on a musical journey including Spiller, Live Element, DJ Sandy vs House Trap, Joey Negro, Praise Cats, Barthezz, York, Safri Duo, and Dario G. We're coming up to the last public holiday of the year here in the UK, when we would normally be out partying with friends and loved ones. Sadly of course we still cannot do that, so here's a soundtrack from happier times. It's not one of my usual disco sets, it is in fact part one of a three hour plus set which I originally recorded in the summmer of 2005. Thanks for downloading another two hours of disco: classics, edits, remixes and brand new tunes. And here in London we've been enjoying some spectacularly hot summer days and nights, which has made me feel like partying more than usual, if that's possible! Sadly we're still not able to gather and groove, but we can come together in spirit with beautiful uplifting music as our unifying force. And so, here goes: don't miss Crackazat's creative use of Earth Wind & Fire accapellas in "Fly away". It's so good it sounds like Maurice White might have made it himself. Billy Porter makes an appearance on "Finally ready" with The Shapeshifters, and I love what Kornum Karma have done in their edit of Change's "Angel in your pocket": I dare you not to dance! There's a trippy disco house vibe happening in the Havana Hustlers' "You and I forever". And in this mix I've picked out a few of those epic extended disco tracks including The Constellation Orchestra's "Perfect love affair" here given an edit by Alien Disco Sugar. See if you can sing along to the annoyingly-well syncopated chorus "We've got - a per-fect love aff-air". Then there's The GB Experience's "Disco Extravaganza" which "borrows" from so many discotheque monsters including Cerrone, and runs for more than 13 minutes. And at over 12 minutes the USA European Connection's "There's a way into my heart" is another discotheque monster. Back in the 1970s did club DJs play these 12 inchers in their entirety? If I'd been on the dancefloor I'd have had to have a sit down or at least a trip to the bar and a loo break in between! Hello from a hot and sunny London, and I've just celebrated taking our first steps out of lockdown by going up into the loft and digging out a box of 12" vinyl disco classics. I've chosen the lesser-played versions of these mega-hits: some from the original days of disco, and some which have been produced more recently. Overall I feel the set has quite a silky, orchestral feel to it, including Joey Negro's delicately balanced rendering of strings, pianos, vocal harmonies and loving breakdowns of the O'Jays "I love music", Bebu Silvetti's crazy keyboard skills and unrivaled disco percussion on his "Spring rain", and my personal set favourite, Dimitri from Paris' epic cinematic Super Disco Orchestra remix of Odyssey's "Native New Yorker". It's an amazing instrumental version, and I was tempted to drop in some of the vocals just for old times' sake, but - well what do you think? This track makes me so happy I just cry every time I hear it. Seriously, I've got a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes right now! Maybe because I was lucky enough to meet Odyssey when I was just a teenager. Somehow I had managed to persuade them to let me interview them for the hospital radio station where I volunteered. They'd done a gig at Nottingham's Rock City and I waited in the foyer of their hotel well into the early hours of the morning to meet them. I'm still so star-struck I've got no idea what I spoke to them about in the interview, but I recall they were charming. Thanks Billie, Lilian and Louisa. Hi. How are you? I hope you and your loved ones are coping with the lockdown. Here in London we're into the third week of isolation, and thought I'd try and improve the mood by mixing up some great disco tracks so that we can all safely party on at home. And here they are; over two and a half hours of original, new, remixed and edited disco, mixed with love in London. Some of my personal favourites include our set starter, Bob Sinclar's collaboration with Robbie Williams, given a total disco makeover by Discoslap; Again & again by DJ Mark Brickman; Arthur Prysock's "When love is new" lovingly edited by DJ Laurel, a great track with a great pedigree with Gamble & Huff as writers and John Davis on production - lush. And there's a couple of tracks that pre-date the disco era including Frankie Valli's "The Night" which in its original 1972 form was a massive Northern Soul hit and features here slowed a little and disconated by Lolita. Then there's the legendary Dusty Springfield and her 1969 hit "Son of a preacher man" given the 4/4 treatment and a new funky bassline by Jakob Trice. And I love Rena Scott's 1979 hit "Super lover" with a subtle edit by DJ XS. Plus classics from Michael, Chaka, and Thelma. Enjoy! Welcome to a new year, a new decade, and a brand new disco set, with over three hours of dance-floor classics; disco originals, remixes, edits and more. Every time I hear "I love music" by the O'Jays I get goosebumps - the arrangement, the vocal harmonies and the percussion are just perfect. And did Chicago - ranked by Billboard as one of the biggest rock bands of all time - imagine they'd spawn a host of disco choons with their funky horn section? (Here it is "On my mind" by - Algrthm). Apparently it's a Barry White sample that makes Future Funk's "Wildberry Tracks" so sublime, and Barry himself is up later with a re-edit of his Love Unlimited Orchestra classic. Kool & the Gang pop up a few times in this mix, as does Michael Jackson. Kudos to Dr Packer, The Reflex, Sasha Mitich (Mitiko) and Young Pulse for their great edits and re-creations. And what disco set would be complete without some Salsoul? Then there's Quincy Jones. 'Nuff said. All mixed with love in London.
