We are fast approaching the end to Augustine's work on predestination. What shall be his closing arguments?
The man most quoted at the time of the reformation continues his arguments about predestination over against Pelagianism.
We continue to hear from one of the most quoted fathers during the reformation on predestination.
One of the most controversial writers in church history. and we are going to read him on predestination. I hope you all enjoy Ive been putting him off abit because I am Augustinian in my theology. But the time is right, lets do this.
we are coming up on the end of the incarnation argument made by Athanasius a defender of orthodoxy a voice for truth against a tidal wave of error and lies. He tends to stack arguments upon each other one after another modern day thinkers tend to stay with one argument let i play out and then move on to other arguments. but Athanasius argues that the death of Christ was necessary to bring about the resurrection which is the first fruits of Christians resurrection. And then He moves on to another argument. its really fascinating for me to hear how he thinks and argues in light of modern day thinkers. hope you find it interesting to.
We are back at hearing the voice of church past. Athanasius one of the most important voices in the history of the church and one of the bravest.

welcome to season two thank you so much for making season one well listened too and far beyond my expectations. Lets keep building a church history buff community where we look forward to hearing the voices of church past. our first church father is the great Saint Athanasius the defend of the trinity and Christ divinity at a time it was most unpopular to do so.
Today I have Andy Ashenden on as a guest to address common objections to the Lutheran Confession that Christians can forfeit faith.. we address why we believe this and deal with three common objections I’ve seen in my years as a Lutheran
The sermon is about the sinner vs the pharisee. and how we can with the Spirit see the difference between good works from false works.
Martin preaches from luke to remind us to hear the gospel now and to give the gospel now because the end could come tomorrow! ANd what lessons we can learn from the hardness of heart the people of Israel. And to not take the promises of God for granted.
Justification by faith alone!!!! that is the main thrust of this sermon. In addition Martin deals with how to understand the works that follow faith. This is one of my favorite sermons of Luther's.
Today Luther talks about false prophets and false teachers and how to recognize them. the text in which he is speaking on is Matt 7:15-23
Well we have a short letter of a voice from church past letting others know that the fight to save his life is something he wishes them to cease. He is courageous in looking forward to his death for his faith in Christ. Its very interesting look at how the church has dealt with persecution in the past perhaps to give us a window should it come again to the modern church.

We are winding down St. Basil's argument in defense of The trinity and The Holy Spirit. Today he makes an extended argument using grammar.
today St Basil finishes up the flow of his current argument before moving onto an extended additional argument for the divinity of The Holy Spirit and the Trinity.

We see St basil continue to defend the trinity by defending The equality of the Holy Spirit to The Father and Son.

Today we have from Dr. Martin Luther on the text of John 15- 26 - John 16:16. We from the first have of the sermon today hope you enjoy.
We start St basil’s refutation of some heretics who have brought in sophistry from the heathen world to attack the doctrines the trinity.
I received a request of some reading of a few eastern church fathers so today we read from St Gregory of Nyssa. As he responds to what we would call today Arianism. A denial of the trinity.
Today we hear a sermon given on ascension day from the text of Mark:16: 14-20. The themes are justification be faith in Christ alone by Christ merits alone and how to understand the role of works.
Today we finish the first book of St Ambrose’s arguments against the Novatians and their desire to withhold the forgiveness of sins fro believers. Hope you enjoyed the writing I know I certainly did.
Woah two huge chapters took up most of our time today! That’s okay we turn from arguments against false teachers to calls to serve outs neighbors today.
Today Dr. Martin Luther expounds on the text of John 16:23-30 the sermon was given on the faith Sunday after Easter.
Ambrose continues to press the issue of Gods will to forgive sins verse the Novatians will to not forgive sins. How many today withhold the forgiveness of sins from so many? How rich then is this work for us today?
Today St Ambrose continues to argue for Gods love for all over and against the Novatians who with held God’s love from people. It is a stark reminder that a primary function of the church is to tell sinners you’re sins are forgiven!!!

As you remember we spent time with Novatian not long ago. Novatian eventually was declared a heretic , here we will hear St Ambrose addressing his heresy and those who followed after.
We finish up this short letter today. May it encourage those who face persecution, whatever form it takes.

Novatian puts forth more arguments for the trinity. Ones I’ve not heard before and I hope you are learning something about how those in the past would lay out an argument for this doctrine. I certainly am.
Today Novatian really gets to arguing that Jesus really is both man and God that He truly is God with us.
Today Novatian starts his arguments regarding Jesus in light of the doctrine of the trinity. One argument is against Gnostics who said he came only in spirit. And one against the arians.
Listen as further arguments are made for the trinity against those who would error in denying a fundamental doctrine of Christianity
We look to yet another controversial figure in church history Novatian. A pope who was excommunicated. Here he addresses the trinity over and against the heretics that would attack this sacred doctrine.
Well we finish up Tertullian’s argument on baptism over against it turns out a woman teaching against what Tertullian believed.
Here we go we pick back up Tertullian’s argument on baptism against those who at the time were attacking it.
We take a look at a later church father Tertullian. We listen as he addresses some teachers in his day that were attacking what the church taught about baptism and what gifts it gives.
Dr Luther tackles Luke 11:14-23 and entitles his sermon Christ’s defense against those who slandered him.
We reach the end of Saint Clement of Rome’s letter today. I hope you enjoyed hearing from a very early writer in church history.
We pick up in chapter 51 of Saint Clement’s letter to the Corinthians. A call of repentance to those trying to overthrow the elders of the Corinthian church.
Martin remarks on the text of Matthew 15:21-28 the gentile woman who ask for Christ to have mercy.

We will be hearing from clement of Rome. His writing to the Corinthian church is a very early writing. So I hope you enjoy hearing from someone so close to those who wrote scripture that many say he was not only taught by the apostles but is the clement mentioned in scripture.
