Katisse Buckingham plays tenor, alto, soprano, baritone saxophones; flute, alto flute, bass flute, and piccolo flute. In his own words, he "endeavors to break down barriers between musical genres and has always resonated with Duke Ellington's famous quote, 'There are two kinds of music - good music, and the other kind.'"
Katisse has performed and/or recorded with several well-known artists and has played on numerous films including (improvising) the "Jazz Flute" scene for the Will Ferrell film Anchorman - The Legend of Ron Burgundy. He also happens to be a childfree man.

Dr. Jay Zigmont PhD, the founder of Childfree Wealth and a Childfree Wealth Specialist, joined us on this episode to share with us his knowledge about... you guessed it: childfree wealth! We talked about what retirement means for childfree folk, reasons why people choose to be childfree, debunked the myth that states that ALL childfree people are filthy rich, and got some great insights from Dr. Jay's research.

We received an email from one of our listeners, and one of the questions he raised was: Do you feel like introverts are more comfortable as childfree? Which was followed up by "some people are charged up by endless talking. It wears me out. Do you feel that folks like me are more happy as childfree?" The three of us self-identify as introverts so we decided to share our own experiences to try and answer this question. Are you also an introvert?

You might have heard someone say that childfree people have chosen not to have kids because they had horrible childhoods. The logic behind this myth is that having had a bad start in life left us so scarred and broken that we don't want to even risk re-living it with our own children. In this episode, we decided to explore this topic with the end goal of debunking this myth. You'll have to listen to learn if we were successful at it or not!

Many of us have heard the expression "it takes a village" when it comes to raising children. Parents seem to crave (need?) to have a support system around them to help them look after the kids when they can't, either because they are busy working or because they simply need a break.
However, many parents are also very defensive when it comes to other people even suggesting how to discipline their children, which is somehow even worse when it comes from someone who doesn't have children because "you're not a parent so you wouldn't get it."
Sound familiar? Tune in to this episode to hear what we think about this topic!

We started recording as usual: discussing what we were going to talk about and throwing ideas out there. Except this wasn't going to end up like any of our previous episodes, but we didn't know that yet.
If you have been listening to or watching our podcast, you'll realize very quickly that we really have no idea what we're doing in this episode. If this is your first time listening to us, this is not how it usually goes!

Some of us have been told "sharing is caring!" or some variation of it since we were kids. But, let's face it: not all of us enjoy sharing and, sometimes, not sharing is actually caring, too.
Do you like sharing?
Did that have any impact on your decision to embrace the childfree lifestyle?
These are just a couple of questions that the three Childfreee Girls tackle in this episode.

Some childfree people regularly use colorful language to refer to parents and children. These words and terms are usually offensive and degrading.
Some of the same childfree people will call other childfree people a "breeder-pleaser" if the latter don't agree with the use of that type of language.
Which one are you?

Yes, you read that right, we had another conversation with a pro-lifer. Stephanie, our guest, also happens to be childfree, so when she reached out to us we were immediately interested in hearing her perspective regarding this highly divisive topic.
In our conversation with Stephanie, we've edited in some responses to some of the things she said that may have warranted clarification or correction. We have also edited in some of her responses to those edits. You can find our full clarification included source material, as well as her responses in full, at our website childfreegirls.com on our blog.
As you may have already noticed by the title, this is probably the last time we will give this type of conversation a go in our podcast...

Imagine a situation in which someone commits a crime, is found guilty, and then the normal prison sentence for this specific crime would be heavily reduced just based on the fact that this person wants to become a parent in the future.
Amanda Knox, an American woman who was sentenced to prison for the murder of her roommate in Italy and a few years later acquitted of this charge, in an interview published by People Magazine stated that "women's fertility should be taken into account with prison sentencing." Is this Pronatalist at its finest, or is she onto something?

This is our third unedited (mostly), unfiltered and uncensored conversation! In this episode, we decided to tackle the subject of nurturing, and why do we equate it with being maternal? Can childfree people also be nurturing? We tried to answer all these questions and the result was a happy and messy recording!

How deep is the desire to have a child vs how deep is the desire to not have a child? Spoiler alert: we do not have the answer to this question.
Someone in our audience sent us an email telling us about her journey from childfree, to wanting to be a mother, to childless, to childfree again. Our discussion to answer the question about the desire that comes with wanting or not wanting to be a parent was built around her story.

Jody Day inspired us to talk about this subject after we read a quote from her presentation at FertilityFest 2018:
"Pronatalist privilege shares its systemic structure with all other forms of isms, including sexism and racism. It's a way of seeing the world from a privileged vantage point, elevated above others, and nearly always conferred without effort."
It's not an easy conversation, and it's certainly not black and white. It's food for thought. Speaking of, what are YOUR thoughts about this subject?

Natalie Fikes is a relationship coach, a motivational speaker, and an author. She was recently in the eye of a social media storm when she posted a comment online and it unleashed thousands of reactions on Facebook.
We saw the post that caused the controversy, reached out to her to tell her we disagreed with her premise and that we wanted to have her in our show to ask her point-blank if she indeed meant what everyone was saying online. It turns out the conversation took an unexpected turn.
Natalie was also very straightforward about why she decided to have children and you might be surprised at her openness. She confirmed what many mothers are afraid to acknowledge in public.

It only takes a glance inside a Mommy/Parenting online group or forum, and a glance inside most childfree online groups or forums, to realize that criticism from one community to the other is ever-present.
We invited Irene Caselli, a First 1,000 Days Correspondent from The Correspondent, and a mother of a 1-year-old, to come to our show to discuss why we think this happens so frequently, and why parents and non-parents should not be pitted against one another.
BONUS: This episode has a special sneak peek inside CFG's conversations after we wrap up recording with a guest, and the topic is related to voluntary sterilization.

Have you ever felt that everything and everyone around you expects all people with a womb to have a baby? Is it your impression that families, by definition, can only be two parents and at least one kid? If you answered yes to either of these questions, you have been exposed to Pronatalism.

Dann is the first, but hopefully not the last, childfree man we are featuring in an episode of our web series. He is Canadian, eats a plant-based diet, and has a fluffy cat. As if he wasn't cool enough yet, Dann is also the author of "Planned UNParenthood", the first book about the childfree choice and lifestyle written from a male perspective.
We had so many questions for Dann, including how societal pressure feels for CF men, how did he approach the subject with his wife when they started dating, and, of course, about the book. We also left a couple of questions for YOU at the end of the episode. Comment below or send an email, we want to read your answers!

There are so many reasons to not have kids! We actually think there are more of those than reasons to have them... In this episode, Childfree Girls discuss some of their own reasons why they decided not to have kids. Do you agree with any of these? What are the reasons why you don't want to have kids?

One of the most common questions that childfree people get asked is "if you don't have children, who will take care of you when you're old?" Even worse, we sometimes get outright told that we will be old, alone, and bitter.
In this episode LeNora, Kristen and Isabel discuss their personal POV on growing old and what those Golden Years would hopefully look like. And, just in case some people don't get it from our conversation: having children is NOT a retirement plan.

In this episode, we had a casual conversation about stuff: we talked about Daddy trolls, we discussed a bit about our childhoods, we delved into the subject of parents who push their kids to do things that they didn't get to do before having them, and the support from family members regarding our choice to be childfree, among other things.
We also answered the question: is there anything that could appeal to us about parenthood? We wonder if you would agree with our answers...

The Childfree Girls had the chance to interview author and childfree lifestyle expert Laura Carroll, and we had such a great time that we decided to release this video a lot earlier than planned!
In this special episode, join the Childfree Girls as we chat with Laura Carroll about her work and her experience. We also asked her what she thought of the use of the term "childfree" (should it be banished for good?), and she gave us great insight.

Aysha (not her real name), is a pediatric endocrinologist who is currently facing a very important decision: go through a very expensive fertility treatment of IVF to conceive a baby even though the idea of becoming a mother doesn't really excite her, or embracing the childfree lifestyle.
The Childfree Girls invited her because we were curious about her journey, and Aysha was very open and vulnerable about her thoughts and feelings. This was a truly enriching conversation about a topic that is seldom discussed.

How many of you have been called selfish because you don't want to have any children? Raise your hands, we're doing a headcount...
We've all been there. People say we're selfish because we don't want to have children. Some childfree people call themselves selfish because of the choice they have made. We talk about that and discuss why it is sometimes hard to admit that you don't want to become a parent.

Raise your hand if you've ever been bingoed! In Childfree terms, Bingo is both a noun and a verb. It refers to an actual Bingo card containing questions and comments we hear all the time from people who don't understand our choice.
In this episode, Childfree Girls discuss the three Bingos that personally annoy us the most, a discussion that was led by asking ourselves: what do we think people really mean when they bingo us?
In the end, we decided to turn the tables and create our own Childfree Bingo with the questions and comments that someone who is thinking about having a child would get told...

What do you know about antinatalism? What perception do you have of antinatalists?
Our guest in this episode is Amanda Sukenick, an actor and writer known for The EFIList (2016), I Am (2009), and Mind Dance (2008). She is also a very active member of the Antinatalist and Efilist communities.
The Childfree Girls sat down with Amanda and asked her several questions that we had after we had watched The EFIList, a short movie released in 2016 and available on YouTube.
Is “life” really necessary? How do we handle living as non-parents in a pronatalist world? Watch our video to find out what we learned.
We highly encourage you to watch Amanda’s The EFIList movie by clicking here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Po5NVlsBka8

It's been one year since the three Founding Non-Mothers of Childfree Girls got together and started posting childfree content online, and we honestly couldn't be happier to celebrate our first anniversary! The second part of our 2-part special is a conversation between LeNora, Kristen, and Isabel, in which we reflect on our first year together. We also introduce the fourth member of CFG, even though most of you might have already noticed her!

Seven childfree women of a wide age range came together in this episode of Childfree Girls to talk about what it is to be childfree through the decades. From a teenager to a sexagenarian, these ladies opened up about their life as a childfree woman, what they expect for the future, discussed bingos, shared thoughts about growing old, what commitment means to them, and many other topics!
Do you identify with any of the stories in this episode?

Dr. Kimya Dennis Ph.D. is the founder and owner of 365 Diversity, LLC. In addition to being a criminologist and sociologist, Kimya Nuru Dennis is a childfree-by-choice sociologist invested in sexual rights and freedoms and reproductive rights and freedoms. An expert on various topics, including Childfreedom, Kimya accepted our invitation to come to our show to talk about our reproductive choice through various lenses: a broad sociological point of view; one that was focused on race; and another one that analyzed it through criminology.
This conversation is rich and touches on several subjects that cross over what being childfree means. We only scratched the surface and encourage you to dig deeper into these issues.

In this episode, LeNora, Kristen, and Isabel kick off the conversation by talking about how sometimes people from our community tone down their childfree happiness around parents because it could be perceived as "gloating".
This topic is followed by a segment in which, after we reminisce about our days in high school, we address the youngest members of the childfree community directly. The Childfree Girls also hope to reach those young men and women who have never even questioned the parenthood issue just to bring awareness to the fact that it is a choice.

Maxine Trump, the director of the documentary "To Kid or Not To Kid", joined the Childfree Girls on this episode to talk about the making of her film and about all the great things that have happened since the premiere.
To Kid Or Not To Kid is a new film that aims to dispel the myth that living childfree is weird, selfish, or somehow wrong. In a world where you’re threatened for speaking openly about living childfree, two women, from different decades, search for ways to support each other in making the decision to live without kids.
If you haven't watched it yet, we highly recommend it! If you'd like to know more about this film, visit Maxine's website here: https://www.tokidornottokid.com/

Tom James, the author of "Your Children Are Boring: or How Modern Parents Ruin Everything", agreed to come as a guest to our show to talk about his book. We talked about how all parents think their kid is special, about losing your identity when you have a baby and about what we found out later is referred to as "sharenting" (the overuse of social media by parents to share content based on their children), among other things.

It's one of the most recurring debates in the Childfree community: if you don't want kids because of the responsibility and the burden, shouldn't you NOT want pets either? Kristen and Isabel have pets, LeNora is pet-free by choice. Join us as we talk about what it entails to own a furry companion, the good and the bad. We also voice our opinions on the terms "furbaby", "dog mom" and everything in between.
