Watch out for Big Pharma's crazy distant cousin: SmallPharma. Just kidding, we aren't related to those lizard people... Follow two renegade pharmacy students on a (sorta) biweekly podcast as we procrastinate our actual schoolwork and discuss a myriad of topics involving the pharmacy and how we will come to help the community around us.
In this episode, Aneesh and Bodunrin say their good-byes as their lives start changing at pharmacy school. They approach their fourth and final year of pharmacy school where they are now sent out into the world on their rotations where they will be tested on their knowledge. It will be a grueling yet rewarding experience. A and B discuss their journey to this point and where they believe their lives may go from here.

Antibiotics are a whole 'nother can of worms. For most people, its a few days of constant medication, for those who practice in healthcare, it is a tumultuous game of cat and mouse (or bug and drug). In this episode, we are joined by our colleague, Emiley Flores, as we discuss the basics and the utility of antibiotics. Emiley has also created a class initiative in the St. Louis Region to help educate the surrounding community on the benefits of proper use and the dangers of antibiotic misuse.
In this month's episode, A and B are joined by two of their classmates, Christian and Sarai, to further discuss diversity in healthcare. They go through a bunch of topics regarding race relations, current events, and their own aspirations in this episode. The conclusion is that they have to be the change they want to see in the world and it all starts with a single step forward. This month, A and B discuss that other crisis happening locally (relatively speaking of course). The opioid epidemic has been killing Americans at an exponential rate since the late '90s, but why does it feel that no ones paid attention to this? A and B discuss all the facets of opioids such as how the drugs works, a discussion on addiction, and what all of us can do to help those who suffer in silence. It may not be the most holliest or jolliest episode, but its a topic worth considering during this upcoming holiday season.
In this episode, we discuss the potential dangers (and some benefits) from some OTC medications, specifically, natural products and herbal medications. They may seem innocuous and "natural", but without the right understanding or knowledge, misuse of these medications can worsen a patients current conditions!
Mental Health and Emotional Well-being is a massive issue that people usually overlook. In this episode, A and B discuss some common mental health disorders and discuss how the year 2020 may have exacerbated some of those conditions. We also discuss some great ways to deal with the stressors in our life. We hope you enjoy and please, stay safe and healthy everyone!
We recorded this episode a week before the tragic murder of George Floyd and we think that people need to hear the messages within this episode now more than ever. With the help of Dr. Lakesha Butler (President of the National Pharmaceutical Association) and Dr. Kendra Holmes ( Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Affinia Healthcare) we tackle health disparities and how a lot of those disparities in the African American community came to light because of COVID-19. We also discuss systemic racism and what we, as healthcare professionals and students, can do to address these issues.

Remember, this is not politics, this is not just about the inexcusable death of George Floyd, but a human rights issue that encompasses systemic racism that has been embedded into countless institutions (such as the police).
