Pastor Brian begins this Resurrection Sunday message by joining the conversation being held by two men on the road to Emmaus.
Key points about these two men:
1. They are leaving Jerusalem.
2. They are in deep conversation with one another.
3. They are sad.
Jesus, resurrected, appears to them but the men’s eyes are restrained from recognizing Him. The men’s tone of conversation was lost hope and facing their perceived realty of a defeated Jesus as they speak in the past tense.
Take away truths:
1. The circumstances that we face in life are not more important than the conclusions we arrive at.
2. Wrong thinking leads to wrong living.
3. What does the Bible say? We find Jesus in His word. Any time you want to find Him, He is there. This is the remedy for the troubled heart.
4. A relationship with Jesus is by invitation only. Not His invitation, for God so loved, but our invitation to invite Him into our lives to abide in us.
5. Hope gives you courage to face what you previously wanted to escape.
6. Once you see Jesus, you can’t not see Jesus.
God is not finished so let us not get stuck in the past tense. Our God is faithful and will reveal to us that our best days are still ahead of us.
Let Jesus have the final say.

We live in a stressful world and lead stressful lives. So where do we find rest? Jesus sends a divine invitation to us in Matthew 11:28.
In the book of Genesis, man was created on the 6th day, so by design man’s next day was for him to rest in the presence of God.
Laws upon Gods laws were created by the Pharisees to condemn the guiltless. For the Son of Man is the Lord even of the Sabbath. Mark’s Gospel reads that Jesus has fire in his eyes as He addresses the Pharisees and their hypocrisies.
How do we find rest? The assurance that we are accepted before God? Come to Jesus. Prayer is simply coming to Jesus. Our soul needs to catch up with our body. We need to slow down and engage in the moment.

Today is the day of salvation.
Grace is a central theme from God.
Three parts to this study:
1. Recognizing grace
2. Revealing truth
3. Rest for the weary
The people of the cities mentioned chose indifference instead of repentance. Its not what they did, it is what they didn’t do. We all need something outside of ourselves to survive.
How do we respond when God moves and we see His miracles? Indifference or humble amazement? When a warning is given, it is really a gift from God. An opportunity has been given to consider and repent. This is grace. Judgement does not happen when Jesus speaks. He warns, by grace, to give us an opportunity to repent and let Him change us.

Jesus will help you find rest for your soul.
Expectations – are things that we look forward to. Something is going to happen exactly the way we want it to. But when we experience expectations that don’t come to pass, how do we respond?
John the Baptist is a prophesy fulfilling forerunner for Jesus, currently in prison and wondering why he is still in prison. What is the disconnect? We pray, we believe, we have faith, we ask, we seek, we knock, yet, we experience unmet expectations which leads to doubt and questions. Find comfort knowing that our faith is big enough for our doubts because our God is big enough for our questions. What are your questions for Jesus?

We need to take our expectations back to the word to read what it says.
God is not bound to our expectations He is bound to His word.
By our faith, we stand here today, forgiven, not because of what Jesus is going to do, but by what He has already done. Let God be God.

‘Wisdom is known by her children.’
Jesus came to reveal God to us. Jesus is the visible image of the invisible God. “It has never been seen like this in all of Israel,” said the people as they observed Jesus doing Messiah like things, which made the multitudes ready to receive. But, the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit by the Pharisees was unwavering to Jesus as He stayed the course of his mission, teaching, preaching and healing. Jesus is the first mover. Everything is in motion except the first mover because He does not have to be in motion, because He, is the first mover.
Moved to compassion, Jesus sees people who are weary, scattered and lost sheep without a shepherd. What do we see when we look into a crowd of faces? Do we sort them by hygiene, income, race, politics? Or do we sort them by Heaven or Hell? The destiny of their souls? Everyone we see has been fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God. Jesus came and did not send anyone else, because it was personal to Him. We all need the forgiveness and grace of God.
How do we get the compassion of Jesus? How do we keep it?
It is time for the people of God to have the compassion of God. To be salt and light. Seeking and saving the lost.

This is the continuation of the 10 miracles that show the heart of God.
There are 4 different types of people here who are at a point of indecision in their hearts of who Jesus really is. However, Jesus has no interest in keeping the traditions of men. Jesus came to bring a new covenant. The old covenant of law versus the new covenant of what Jesus has done. Extending grace to us on the basis of faith not on the basis of doing. It is easier for us to follow a man-made religion than to walk in faith as a disciple of Jesus. Faith will be rewarded. This is God’s heart.

We are surrounded by counterfeits. There is an element of truth in a counterfeit, but it is not authentic. Matthew labors hard in his writings so that anyone who reads his account, it will prove undeniably that Jesus is the promised Messiah. 3 points to focus on are faith, forgiveness and fellowship.
5 points to focus on from Jesus are:
Jesus authenticates his authority by not only forgiving sin but also healing. Disease and sin were inseparable to the Scribes of the day. That is why the Scribes said within themselves that this was blasphemy, but Jesus read their thoughts. Religion loves to create obstacles to the truth. Jesus is the visible image of the invisible God.
What is a disciple? It is defined as a devoted disciplined learner. How Jesus reveals God’s heart is that on His heart is the desire to make disciples. 269 times the word disciple is used in the Bible. The word Christian is used only 3 times. The New Testament is written by disciples for disciples.

Here Jesus makes clear the cost of discipleship. This is a ‘me first’ culture we live in. As disciples we need to remember that this earth is not our home, we are citizens of Heaven. This is the heart of a disciple. This is our abundant life.

The Sermon on the Mount ends, Jesus comes down from the mountain and great multitudes followed Him. Then behold, a leper comes to Jesus, and asks “are you willing to heal me?” We ask this same question today. “Jesus, are you willing to make beauty from ashes in my life, are You willing to heal, me?”
Anyone whosoever will fall at the feet of Jesus, He will heal them. This is the heart of God. Faith makes Jesus marvel. “As you have believed, so let it be done for you.”

3 Warnings:
11 time in 11 verses in the New Testament we are given the warning to “watch out for false prophets.” There is no other gospel. Notice in these warnings that “they” come to us we do not go to them. It is our responsibility to be Bereans, checking that the word preached is accurate. This means that we need to know our Bibles. Having His word written on our hearts. This is our compass. Do not build foolishly.

What is the Christ centered mindset we are called to have? Temporary treasures on earth, or permanent treasures in Heaven? Merry Christmas! Can you believe it’s Christmas time again so soon?
The Gospel of Luke Chapter 2 continues with the introduction of Simeon, a just and devout man and Anna, a prophetess. Two people who have been waiting their entire lives to see God’s prophecy fulfilled with His Son being born to take away the sins of the world. Jesus, meaning, Yahweh is salvation. The end of the book of Malachi begins 400 years of silence from God until the birth of Jesus.
We are to be like Simeon and Anna, patiently, faithfully waiting. Perhaps we have been born to see with our own eyes the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. Our perspective should be like Simeon and Anna that Christmas, the celebrated birth of our Lord and Savior, is finally here!

This message reveals practical applications of powerful words written to us by the apostle Peter. As Christians, we are pilgrims who are journeying through these foreign lands. Priorities are decisions we make in our lives that regard some things more important than others. We have to be purposeful in establishing priorities. We need to do this so that we do not find ourselves at the end of our life with disappointments, regrets or the realization of a long road of wasted opportunities.

The main theme of this book is encouragement. This book is written to a Church that is going through an incredibly difficult season. When we begin to read any new book we need to ask ourselves 3 questions. Who is writing the book, to whom is it written for and why was it written?
Our God is always faithful in every season. Let us be encouraged in that. God chose you first and knew you before the foundation of the earth. He knows everything about us, our faults, ours sins, our weaknesses and still called us. God wants you to be a part of the great mission to seek, serve and save this lost world.

In this section of Scripture, Jesus shows up with His apostles, unannounced, at Martha’s house. Martha, at first, warmly receives them all because Jesus was welcome in her house. Is Jesus welcome in our house? But this is a huge ask and can be viewed from two different angles.

Priorities are more important than things. The best question is what is the most important.
The word ‘neither’ is a powerful word that shatters our own belief system of expectations of God. See John 9:3 and Joshua 5:13-15 Notice that God does not follow our time line.

When we get the right one thing we get everything. This portion of Scripture zooms in on the last 6 months of the earthly ministry of Jesus Christ. In this world of constant changes, Jesus never changes. Know peace with that. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. All flesh is grass, the grass withers the flower fades but the Word of our God will stand forever.

We all have a race to run, a separate course set before us by Jesus Christ . We are not in a race against each other. We are not in competition with each other. The race has been set before each of us according to our own abilities. Since we are in a race, lets run to win!' Key points to remember are:

Our faith in Jesus will be tested. (Luke 22:31-32) Trials, persecutions, rejections, challenges, these are all proving grounds. A proving ground is a controlled environment where something can be tested to prove if it works. The preparation has been performed so now come the test.
God does not allow the test to come until we are ready.
The test is designed not to destroy us, but to prove us.
How do we endure these inevitable tests? By being convinced of the goodness, the plan and the power of God. Know that everything we will be tested in will be in a God controlled environment. “I will never leave you nor forsake you” Jesus said. You will not be destroyed but you will be tested. (James 1:12 Jeremiah 29:11 and Romans 8:28) We all have stuff but Jesus can carry all of our stuff. He can navigate us through all of our storms. He wants everything that is in our hearts, the good and the bad. His love for us is unconditional and nothing is hidden from Him..

Fear. Reluctance. This causes a lack of courage to stand up for what is right. What does unashamed look like? What is required?
Are we okay with that? Are we willing to not receive rewards on this end of eternity, in our lifetime? The One who spoke is faithful. His promises will come to pass, but the when is a Divine appointment. This life is not all there is.
This earth is not our home, there is something greater beyond this. We are strangers and pilgrims here. We are citizens of Heaven.
3.. Vertical Vision.
Since Heaven is our motivation then let us set our minds on things above. This is honoring God. Blessed is he who is not offended by Jesus. We need to give God the space to be God. Live the challenging call of a faith unashamed, a faith unconditional. We are salt and light, here on mission, but we must be different. Boldly different. May our collective prayer be less of me and more of You.

Abraham is the father of the faithful and is an example of faith willing. Abraham believed in the Lord and He accounted to him for righteousness. Sarah, his wife, joins the adventure by bearing a child even though she has long passed the age of child bearing. This appointed event occurs to begin the genealogy of Jesus Christ. Is anything to hard for the Lord?

Willing to believe and trust as he waits
God said to Abraham; “You have skirted this mountain long enough, turn northward.” Today, our mountain may not be geographical, but it is a place. What is the place that you have spent too much time in that God is calling you out of? It is time to move in faith willing. You were created for good works. We are citizens of Heaven making our way through this earth as we walk with God through faith in Jesus.

God views time morally. Not by hours, days or years but in seasons. Currently, just as in the days of Noah, God is being pushed out of our culture. The increasing majority of people do not want to talk about Jesus, they do not want His counsel.. Godly fear is disappearing. We are at a crossroads of faith. So was this during the days of Noah. But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord and demonstrated how faith works. How? Four key points are:

Testimony

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. The prophet Enoch’s name means dedicated and as he believed, in faith, it changed him. Nobody accidentally walks with God. It has to be intentional. We need to be going the same way, the same pace and with the same faith. We are all prone to wander and need to yoke back up to Jesus.

We all will struggle in our obedience to God but when we drift and fall away, we run to Jesus in the spirit of repentance. We all have fallen short of the law because if we are guilty of one then we are guilty of all. We will all fail, so then it is direction not perfection. We are all in desperate need of a Savior and Jesus is the only remedy. Outside of Jesus there is no sacrifice for sin. It is finished.
Always remember what Jesus has done in your life and grow in more passion for Him. We need patient endurance to finish our race. How do we do this?
By remembering the past victories
By remembering the future promises
By remembering that Jesus is coming
By setting sail again
We are not walking aimlessly. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus and run your race to completion.

Hebrews is written to the Hebrews so we have to put on a Hebrew mindset of that time in history in order to understand the writer. The Hebrews wanted a sign because Jesus did not fit their expectations. They wanted a conquering king. So Jesus was a stumbling stone in their perspective. They expected another.
Jesus’ death was planned through promises, predicted through prophecy and fulfills all of God’s plans and purposes.
A testament demands death
Forgiveness demands blood
Judgement demands a substitute
Jesus had to die for our sins to pay the price and complete the gift of eternal life. Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins. The wages of sin is death. No works, no efforts, no deeds we can do in our life can cover our sins. We are all sinners saved by amazing grace.
The testator has to die for the will to be executed and then the assets dispersed to the beneficiaries. Jesus then rises from the dead, defeating death the devil and the grave to then become Executor of the will. No one took His life, He laid it down willingly. No one will stand before God in their own righteousness. But a pardon is not complete unless it is accepted.
Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. Removing them as far as the east is from the west.

We want the reality of a personal relationship with Jesus not hindering old covenant religious rituals that keep us separated.
The Tent of Meeting was the reality in the Old Testament where humanity met Divinity. Now, the new has come and rendered the old obsolete. Where can humanity and Divinity meet today? It is not a place anymore it is a Person. Jesus the Christ. He is the Word that became flesh and dwelt among us. There is no more work to be done. Jesus paid for it all at the cross when He said; “It is finished.”
We have been bought with a great price. The new covenant is our reality now. Jesus is the new covenant.
The old covenant was restrictive because:
Worship of God was limited
All of the Old Testament sacrifices never satisfied the full payment of sin
At best it was temporary
The heart of the problem is our hearts

New Covenant versus Old Covenant.
Covenant: An agreement between 2 parties.
OLD COVENANT: Was the agreement God made with the nation of Israel in the book of Exodus. Obey God’s laws to live. If you shall then I will. 10 commandments then grew to 613 laws. Laws of rules and standards, creating hypocrisy and numbness.
NEW COVENANT: Was needed because the law will never change us from the inside out. The New Covenant is:
Based on what God says “I will do” not what you say you will do.
Because we are now led from within. Being changed on the inside.
We now have 24/7 access now to to God with Jesus as our mediator.
We have forgiveness of our sins. Removed and forgotten as far at the east is from the west and remembered no more. Paid in full from Adam to you today by Jesus. We have been forgiven.
Works based religion, an old covenant system, does not work anymore. Jesus came to tear that veil and break the wall of separation. No person can stand anymore between us and Him. It is time to let go of the old and take hold of the new, Jesus. He is the mediator for a better covenant with better promises.

The Hebrews are struggling with their faith. Walking when they should be running. Are you suffering from arrested development in your faith? Have you reached a plateau? Let’s be honest and take inventory. We have been Christians long enough and should be much further in our walk. It is time to rise up from spiritual immaturity. As a child we needed milk. 10 years later, 20 years later, a milk only diet is no longer nutritious for growth. Once the foundation is built, there comes a time for the builders to begin the building of the structure. Let us not be white washed tombs. In some capacity, we should now all be teachers. God is calling us into deeper waters and it is time to move out of the shallow end.

The covenant agreement from God continues. God’s words recorded. Blessings if you abide, and a promise, that He will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries.
(20-23) The promise of God’s presence means everything.
(24-28) Obedience is the pathway to blessing. Blessings are not always material possessions.
(29-31) Little by little, eventually, becomes a lot. God needs to teach and train us, so this will obviously take some time.

The Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. To dust, someday, we will return. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. What is happening on the outside is the opposite of what should be occurring on the inside. We should be feeding ourselves spiritually every day from God’s word. Resting, also, as God rested too.

On the cusp of plague number 10, Pharaoh is still in opposition. This is a dangerous place to be. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. He Himself will walk this final plague. Three points to study are that it was righteous, it was measured and it was necessary. It is about obedience not negotiation. It is about salvation not compromise. All that is written here is symbolism pointing to the coming of Jesus and His resurrection. God is revealing Himself and intentionally unfolds a purposeful plan for redemption as He brings judgement to Pharaoh. God’s question then is still asked of us today, ‘How long will you refuse to humble yourself before Me?’ Just like Pharaoh, we attempt to negotiate and try to raise ourselves up to meet God on the same level. Ancient Egypt, or current times? Pastor Brian Daly continues this study into the great book of Exodus.
If you are keeping score, it is Pharaoh 0 for 6 and God 6 for 6, and God is just getting warmed up. Still, His mercy is on full display. We do not need to understand everything, God wants us to trust Him. Verse 19 provides an opportunity to escape and to shelter in place. The land of Goshen will not be touched by these events current and to come. This time in history of the Egyptian plagues, Moses and Pharaoh, will continue for about a year. However, 40 years later, Rahab tells the 2 spies of Joshua that the inhabitants of Jericho are fainthearted and filled with terror. They remembered still what God had done for the children of Israel.

As events have pushed the church out of our usual facility and into a remote location, the recorded audio quality is challenging but the message has perfect timing. Nothing can stop an unstoppable God. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and of a sound mind. In these days, let us not hoard our faith, our love our God revealed wisdom but freely as it was given let us freely pour it out. God is the same yesterday, today and forever.

“Let My people go!” Four centuries have passed with Israel still captive under the Egyptians. The scene is set for Moses to approach Pharaoh and Moses will soon learn that this will not be a one and done. Pharaoh exercises all the power he has, but God, is going to exercise all the power that He has. God was the ‘I Am’ for Moses and He is the ‘I Am’ for whatever challenge is before us today. We can’t handle it but God can. He is simply asking us to just be faithful. Let us turn our why into who He is and in our prayers ask Him our tough questions.

The Creator of the Universe knows you by name. God sees, He hears and knows your sorrows. He will save you from something to prepare you for something. Exodus, is the book of redemption. One family will have a child, Moses, that will change history. Moses, (I drew him out of the water) for the first 40 years of his life was learned in all wisdom of the Egyptians and was mighty in words and deed (Acts 7:22). It is a bottomless pit to try and satisfy the desires of the flesh. Sin is always a passing pleasure. Moses will be called out of Egypt. What is God trying to call us out of? What sin defines us that we need to be set free from? If the Son has set you free, you shall be free indeed (John 8:36)!
