BATTLE OF THE CLONES
With the announcement or leak of the new Maschine Standalone, the question arises... Are we witnessing a paradigm shift? To tether or not to tether that is the question. Has NI lost its stronghold on the beatmakers market now that Akai has set a new standard of strong stand-alone machines like MPC X, One, Live (II) etc? How much does it matter that NI has traditionally offered very strong plug-ins and VSTs vs. AKAI having flipped things on its head with plugin in their standalone boxes? How does the hardware compare? Do we need a CV on these stand-alone boxes? What CV alternatives and eurorack integration options exist for both brands?
We are excited to welcome Michelle Moog-Koussa to the Beatppl podcast. We will chat about the Moog Legacy, the Moogseum, the Bob Moog Foundation, and Moog synth stuff.
About Michelle... Michelle Moog-Koussa has been the executive director of the Bob Moog Foundation for the 12 years since it's inception. She has guided the organization through the creation and growth of its hallmark educational project, Dr. Bob's SoundSchool, which inspires thousands of teachers and young children every year through a 10-week experiential science of sound curriculum. Michelle has also maintained her vision for a Moogseum, a historical and educational center that will house all of the Foundation's projects while encouraging people of all ages to embrace the process of scientific and creative discovery.

Let's focus on another classic... the Ensoniq ASR 10 is a classic sampler but its no drum machine. Its probably one of the most well-revered sampling keyboard workstations in hiphop, so on May 30th we will discuss it in depth.
On this Beatppl Podcast episode 71 we will engage in a Gear News Chat about the latest releases in gear news lately including the #MPCLiveMKII #Subharmonicon #BehringerMonoPoly and maybe even the Behringer Jam.
Dave Rossum & Marco Alpert of Emu Systems & Rossum-Electro join the podcast for a conversation about the EMU legacy, SP1200, and their current eurorack projects.
Like, Subscribe and share.
About Dave... Starting with his co-founding of E-mu Systems, Dave provided the technological leadership that resulted in what many consider the premier professional modular synthesizer system. The E-mu Modular System combined superlative analog design, innovative use of digital technology, and unparalleled physical construction and reliability.
In the following years, Dave and E-mu turned their attention to affordable professional digital sampling with the Emulator keyboards and racks. The Emulator II in particular established sampling as the leading music technology of its time, becoming a standard fixture in professional studios worldwide and appearing on innumerable hit records and film soundtracks. SP-1200It was followed by the Emax samplers, the legendary SP-12 and SP-1200 sampling drum machines, the Proteus sound modules and the Morpheus Z-Plane Synthesizer.
In addition, Dave also developed and licensed technology that enabled the creation of many iconic synthesizers, including the Oberheim 4-Voice, the Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 and, via his design of many of the SSM music ICs, instruments from Korg, Kawai, and many more.
Roger Linn joins the conversation in this exclusive interview on Beatppl Podcast episode 69.
More on Roger Linn... In 1988, he designed the innovative MPC60 MIDI Production Center for the Japanese Akai Company, with his signature appearing on the product’s front panel. Combining a sampling drum machine with a real-time MIDI sequencer, this product gradually became the industry standard in the production of hip-hop, dance and related music styles throughout the 1990s, and has been credited as a significant influence in the evolution of hip hop music. This was followed in 1994 with the enhanced MPC3000 and others. In addition to these designs for Akai, he also helped design products for a variety of companies during the 1990s, including the Japanese Roland company.

In this episode of the BeatPPL Podcast, we have invited Rickey Tinez to chop it up with us about the classic MPC. But not just any MPC, all of the stand-alone MPCs of old (from the 60 - 4000). What makes these classics so desirable and sought after? Why do so many of them hold their value so well? What is mojo all about? Our favs? Our firsts? The one that got away? The one we will never get rid of?
We sit with Ron, owner and designer at Sleepy Circuits and discuss the Hypno Module The Hypno is inspired by analog video systems. It digitally emulates and extends common analog video workflows that previously required whole systems to achieve, with shape generation, colorization, feedback and the ability to patch these elements in a simple compact interface.
On April 15th, 2020 we welcome our guest Peter Nyboer of Sensel (Morph) - https://sensel.com/. We are looking forward to chatting with Peter about morph and all of its overlays, its origin story and the impact that it's having on music tech.
