He is our true source of strength, our firm foundation, our support, and our defense. Today, we talk about the importance of grafting ourselves to the Rock of Ages.

Good is something we all want to experience and can often be illusive. God’s presence carries good with Him into our lives. The question is are we busy trying to produce good for ourselves or do we humble ourselves and allow goodness from a good God to flow through our lives.

The 1000 Names series continues with us sharing with each other how we have seen God's different name in action.
Genesis 16 tells us the story of an Egyptian slave who gives God a name, Jehovah El Roi. She has an encounter with the living God in the form of the Angel of the Lord and it gives her the strength and resolve to face the difficult relationships in her life. If you feel unseen, unloved and forgotten - you need to experience this aspect of God's character.
In this teaching we look at Jesus' rhythm of simplicity. Outward simplicity is the fruit of a trusting heart that relies on God to provide so that we can live in freedom and without anxiety. This message includes practical ideas from Amy Wadlow and Linda Burchett on how we can outwardly simplify our lives as a way of helping our hearts learn to trust God more and for us to love money and possessions less.
In this message Pastor Andrew takes us through the most powerful miracle that Jesus performed before he rose himself. We will consider Jesus’ unexpected actions and see that His love compelled him to be “late” in order to reveal His true nature. There is a challenge in this story for us to allow Jesus into the tomb of our heart to resurrect that which is hidden, dead and disbelieving.
In this teaching we look at Jesus' rhythm of observing the festivals and feasts set up by God in the Old Testament. If we want to invite more of God's peace that destroys the chaos of this life - doing our part in living healthy rhythms sends the "invite" to Him. This teaching summarizes the Jewish feasts and their fulfillment in Jesus while challenging us to examine our own "holiday" rituals and their meaning.
In this teaching we look at Jesus' rhythm of eating with others and the gravity of the common table in our homes. We believe that we gain a sense of belonging, community and identity by spending time eating meals with others. Pastor Andrew challenges us to try to eat one meal a day with others in this "extroverted rhythm."
Philippians 2:5-8; Galatians 5:13-14; 1 Cor. 6:19-20 Pastor Andrew challenges us to examine our view of freedom in light of boundaries and limits. It seems that resisting limits have puts us in a place where we are acting like we have God's powers, instead of living this human life wisely. The concept of a "rule of life" is introduced to us as a set of habits that we decide to follow to help us love others well. The one application today is considering rhythms around our sleep and honoring our bodies' needs and understanding the tie in to spiritual benefit with physical boundaries.
Fasting has been a spiritual discipline practiced by God’s leaders and people for centuries. The primary purpose of fasting is to humble ourselves before Him, but it also greatly enhances our spiritual hunger and sensitivity. In this message we look at the reasons we fast as Christians. It also is an encouragement to us as we are celebrating the Lenten season.

Obscurity is the place where our true identity as the "beloved of God" is seared deep into our soul. We live in a celebrity culture, and obscurity is not valued. Jesus values and models obscurity for us in slowing, silence, solitude and sabbath. This teaching will challenge you to process pain with Jesus and a few supportive friends first, instead of seeking the world's comfort from your Facebook friends.

We also address the fact that righteousness cannot be separated from Love, and that righteousness, love and justice are always together in the Kingdom of Heaven...Walking in love is righteousness and results in justice and restoration.
Life group questions:
1) Do you agree that Righteousness and Love cannot be separated in the Kingdom? How do we see this in the life of Jesus?
2) Is it true that we have become righteousness in Christ by faith? Tell us what that means for how you see yourself.
3) Can there be Righteousness and Love without Justice? or Righteousness and Justice without Love from Heavens' point of view?

Message #3: “Discovering the Doing What the Father is Doing”

In this message we look at John 5, where Jesus tells us that He only does what He sees His Father doing. The concept of imitation in following a Rabbi like Jesus or apprenticing under your father to learn the family business are illustrations of how we are to follow Jesus, watching to see where God is working and joining Him in His work.
Life Group Questions:
- Are there some areas in your life where you clearly see God working? If so, how are you joining Him in that work?
- What are some areas where you always know that it's God who is working? (i.e. someone seeking Jesus, a need that matches up with something you have to give away, a desperate situation that only God can fix, etc)
- Who are you following who walks with Jesus? Who are you trying to imitate? (Paul: Follow me as a I follow Christ)
- Leadership question: For those of us who have influence in other's lives: when you join God in the work He is doing, do you take others along with you? What does it look like practically to include others so they can learn this concept?
In this message we look at John 13, where Jesus models serving for us and commands us to do the same. The humility that is required for serving and receiving when others serve us is essential. As leaders we are challenged to walk in servant leadership.
September 19, 2021 Series: Discovering the Mysteries of the Kingdom Message #2: “Discovering the Secret of Caring like Jesus”

In this message we look at Matthew 9 and how Jesus moved toward those who were far from God instead of drawing back like the religious leaders of his day. We are challenged to put our compassion into action and be motivated by mercy and not judgment.
Life Group Questions:
1) Where are the best opportunities you have to love those who are far from God? (family, work, neighbors on your block, other?)
2) Have you looked at people without Jesus as those who are desperately fill a God shaped hole in their hearts as orphans before? Does that mindset shift your attitude toward loving them more?
3) What does it look like for those far from God to "belong before they believe?"
4) Andrew said, "The world isn't looking for a reflection of itself, it's looking for an alternative way to live." Do you agree with that statement? Why is that true or untrue?
In this message Pastor Andrew teaches through Luke 10:26-37, the story of the Good Samaritan. Jesus is helping us understand one of the mysteries of His kingdom in challenging us to love like He does. In studying this passage we have to face our lack of compassion and turn to Him to pour his love into our hearts so that we can love others.
In this message Pastor Andrew talks about Solomon's reasoning that we can’t control anything in this life. He concludes our response should be fearing God and obeying His commands. We are asking Jesus to point out where we have been trying to control people, things and circumstances. Our goal is to surrender to Him more & live in Self Control.
In this message Pastor Andrew talks about Solomon's slide away from Godly living into compromise. Though he was the wisest person who ever lived, he didn't apply that knowledge of how to live as he grew older. The challenge for us is to worship and serve Jesus with a whole heart.

Life Group Questions: 1. Wisdom is defined as “receiving God’s instruction and persevering with it unto fulfillment” — what areas of your life do you feel invited to pursue God’s instruction? (Ie. July 11, 2021 Neighborhood Church Chico Sunday Service "Lessons from Three Kings," Week 27 “ David Dies & Solomon Rises” (1 Kings 1-3). In this message Pastor Andrew talks about the way that David fails to finish his life well and challenges us with five habits that we can apply in our life to set ourselves up to finish our lives as well. There is also a challenge to embrace confrontation (speaking the truth in love) while facing the areas in our life where we are tempted to procrastinate.

Repeated times of renewal, Lifelong learning, Big picture perspective, Dynamic sense of Calling & Contribution, Coaching and Mentoring of others

In this message Pastor Andrew talks about David's unwillingness to discipline his adult children & the corresponding unraveling of his family due to the consequences of his sin. We will be challenged to speak the truth in love and increase our moral courage through the power of the Holy Spirit. The application has a short list about how to confront in love.
