In this episode, Kendall Dooley guides @kaleophx through the story of the Good Samaritan as he preaches from the book “Strength to Love” by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. a volume of his most well-known homilies.
King had begun working on the sermons during a fortnight in jail in July 1962. While behind bars, he spent uninterrupted time preparing the drafts for works such as “Loving Your Enemies” and “Shattered Dreams,” and he continued to edit the volume after his release.
Collectively they present King’s fusion of Christian teachings and social consciousness and promote his prescient vision of love as a social and political force for change. In this sermon, Pastor Chris guides us through the sermon "Love In Action" as King describes the complexities of forgiveness and tragic blindness.

I turned 33 yesterday. My Jesus year.
Jesus, Howard Thurman, and MLK all lived in contradiction to the world they were living in. We must also do so if we want to create spaces of peace for communal flourishing. BUT…it starts with a seed in a greenhouse.
I could think of no better way to gift the world with who I am than by sharing this message I gave last Sunday called The Greenhouse Contradiction. It strongly represents who I am as a pastor and the community we are growing @kaleophx.

Today is Trinity Sunday at Kaleo Phoenix. Leonardo Boff writes, "If God means three divine Persons in eternal communion among themselves, then we must conclude that we also, sons and daughters, are called to communion. We are the image and likeness of the Trinity. Hence, we are community beings." "'Our fathers' have given us this practice of patriarchy and racism that remains in our country and in a lot of our churches today. The violent and unjust acts we witness in our world today are symptoms of this illness that hides behind American exceptionalism. However, This history reveals, like Kendrick’s song, that this is a generational problem and that our past 'fathers' were formed by environmental spaces that caused them to harm others."

As they walked through the Red Sea, I imagine that all of Israel marched together just like they do in the protests of today. They marched on dry ground surrounded by walls of impossibility, yet God made a way for them to cross over to the other side. And they are led by a prophet called Miriam as she sings and dances she embodies a place of liberation as the river swallows up their oppressors - the horse and rider. I believe John Brown was an embodied witness of Jesus because he looked at the scriptures and saw liberation and a God of love….

At the beginning of the fall semester, “Millions of people watched a disagreement between pairs of students at Arizona State University that was captured on video, with the clip showing two white male students getting asked to leave a multicultural space. In order for something to be reconciled, you have to give a full account of what was done. Everything must be accounted for. So for us to truly see racial reconciliation, we must give an account of every racial injustice that has happened in our country. Which is messy...difficult...hard...but it must be done if we are to build multi-ethnic communities of healing. A flourishing church. A highly incarnational church.

Valerie, known as V by most family and friends was born on the south side of Chicago in an Italian American family. She accepted Jesus as her savior at age 7. Ultimately she felt lost and an outcast to her peers. She struggled with identity and fitting in, which always led to bouts of depression and anxiety. In 2002 the passing of her Grandma lit a fire under her to seek God deeper than ever before and a desire to know her true identity and purpose. She spent the following 16 years studying scripture, ministering and evangelizing. In this episode, we discuss her personal story, how to know when God wants something for you vs. you wanting something for yourself, and advice she’d give millennials who want to make an impact in their community.

A good friend of mine introduced me to some of Matt's videos online a couple years ago and then I heard him speak. Let me tell you -- he's young, bold and totally on fire for God! He has story after story of God healing people in Walmarts, parks, and gas stations simply because he was bold enough to ask to pray for them on the spot.
