Sue Reese Finlay

Whenever I heard people leaving the church, I was always baffled, especially when they were “the strong, faithful, stalwart” ones.

Why would anyone leave the most beautiful gift in all the world? How could anyone do it

  • They must be deceived.
  • Their testimony just wasn’t strong enough.
  • They didn’t have enough faith.
  • They wanted to commit sin.

These were my thoughts….

…no doubt some of you may be thinking the same thing about me.

I considered myself to be one of the strong, faithful, and stalwart ones. I had a desire to be immovable, faithful, and obedient like Nephi and the sons of Heleman.

I bore my testimony often. I used my singing voice to share my deep beliefs. We raised our children with the gospel surrounding us.

I was all in...until I wasn't.

[This was recorded by the host in the spring of 2022, and touches briefly on her departure from Mormonism* after over fifty years of being an all-in member.]

*The official name is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

In this episode, Sue shares her thoughts about the second book in her Confessions of a Cookie Snatcher series, her choice to stand strong and speak confidently in a world that demonizes truth and celebrates mediocrity, and where she defends mediocrity in her own life.

"The most compassionate thing I can do shines a light on truth and the path that inspires & empowers you. Whereas the most damaging stance I could take is one that keeps you wallowing in your unhappiness and sorrow, keeps you unhealthy, and celebrates your mediocrity. That would be insidious. Heartless. Cruel. And yet, that seems to be what society is demanding by demonizing truth and those who dare speak it while glorifying lies & liars."

Yes...it happened again.

I got triggered by something my ex-husband (of thirty years) said.

It's been a minute since a trigger of that intensity and magnitude has come out of nowhere and hit me between the eyes. 🎯

Here's the thing about triggers, though.

👉There is a gift and lesson if you're willing to dive deep inside yourself to discover it... 🖤

...rather than letting it dis-empower you.

Question:

Where in your world are you giving power to other people...and it's time to stop?

What can you do today to begin empowering yourself?

Until next time..
