Yet a new study suggests singles become happier as they age. One strategy: Focus on creating a full life now, for yourself, rather than finding a partner. After Katie Tomaszewski divorced at the age of 28, she felt ashamed to be alone. So she did what she thought a single person should do: She over-dated, over-worked and over-socialized, inviting friends over for dinner nearly every night because she was afraid of being lonely.

“It was constant socializing and constant distraction,” says Ms. Tomaszewski, now a 36-year-old Pilates instructor in Chicago. “I became desperate and depressed, looking for someone—anyone—to save me from being alone.”

Yes, it can be tough to be single. But a new study published this past December in the Journals of Gerontology offers hope for those who are struggling. Singles today are more satisfied with their lives than singles in the past, the study found. And people who are single become more satisfied with their lives as they grow older, according to researchers from the German Centre of Gerontology in Berlin, who analyzed data from the German Ageing Survey, a nationally representative sample of people between the ages or 40 and 85. Experts say the findings ring true for Western countries broadly. This is important news, because one of the biggest demographic trends of the past 50 years is the rise of singles: In 2017, the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey reported that more than 120 million U.S. residents, or almost 48% of adults aged 18 or older, were divorced, widowed or had never been married. In 1970, 29% of the population, or 39 million adults aged 18 or older, were single.And yet single people still face a stigma. Bella DePaulo, a social scientist and author of “Singled Out,” has been studying singles since the late 1990s and has coined the phrase “singlism” to describe the ways in which people discriminate against singles. The stereotyping includes the assumptions that singles are miserable, lonely or selfish; that they are desperate to get married; that there must be something wrong with someone who is single. Some single people internalize all that, even if they like being single,” Dr. DePaulo says. “They even sometimes think that liking single life is itself a sign that something is wrong with them.”

Society is organized around couples—they get breaks on everything from club memberships to tickets and events. And it can be a drag for singles when people offer advice or insist on fixing them up. “I think the phrase ‘fix you up’ is telling,” says Dr. DePaulo. “It seems to suggest that you are broken, and that coupling will mend you.”

She says the hardest time to be single is around the age of 30. That’s when the expectation to be married becomes most intense. Friends and relatives are marrying, or are already married, and single people often feel like the odd person out. This feeling is most acute in single people who socialize primarily with couples. “Couples often demote their single friends to lunch or daytime events or children’s birthday parties, basically treating them as if they are not fully adult,” Dr. DePaulo says. It is possible for single people to adjust their attitude and become happier. In a not-yet-published study done at Simon Fraser University, in greater Vancouver, British Columbia, psychologists gave single people one of two made-up articles to read, one reporting that singles are generally happy in life and one reporting that they are not. People who read the happy version of the article reported higher levels of life satisfaction and lower desire to find a relationship than those who read the more negative version. Basically, “if you have a fear of being single this undermines your well-being,” says Yuthika Girme, a social psychologist and lead researcher on the study.

Aside from spending time with other people, make sure to also spend time for yourself. Whether we are in a relationship or not, we sometimes end up forgetting about self-care due to a lot of responsibilities in front of us. While you are single, take the time and opportunity to pamper yourself more. Go out and see your favorite movie, receive a relaxing massage from a spa shop, get a makeover, eat from your favorite restaurant, buy and wear outfits that best represents you, buy the things that you always want to purchase, travel to your dream destination, etc. Yes, you deserve all these things. Can not an individual do these things while in a relationship? They can, but most relationships can cause limitations. Some relationships can hinder us from doing things that can make us happy aside from the things that we can do as a pair. Being in a relationship is a way different story, you can do things that you can not do alone. However, we are more autonomous while we are single than while we are part of a pair. Your partner may not prefer your favorite movie genre or your dream destination, among other things. Financial constraints can also be one of the reasons that hinder some people from spending for themselves.

Why is it important to create other relationships stronger? You can look at it as a lifetime investment. Not all romantic relationships last, that is the truth. Another truth, your relationships with your friends and family do. In singleness or not, you can always count on with people whom you created strong bonds with.

It’s so easy to fall back on old assumptions that men are more likely to cheat, with the usually list of justifications (like how they can't "keep it in their pants"). That's becoming more and more untrue as time goes on. "Traditionally, it's been argued that women are more likely than men to cheat because they're unhappy with the existing relationships, while men are more likely than women to cheat because they're looking for sexual variety or an opportunity presented itself," says, Zhana Vrangalova, Ph.D., a "sexpert" at LELO and a professor of human sexuality at NYU. "That's still true to some extent today, but the gender gap in infidelity is closing among the newer generations."In older generations, men were much more likely to cheat than women, whereas in the current generation women and men are cheating at similar rates," she adds. "And the current generation of men and women are more similar in their reasons for cheating than older generations." Of course, there are some variations between men and women. "A recent study showed men were more likely than women to cheat for reasons related to sexual desire and variety, and due to situational factors like being drunk," Vrangalova says. "However, the top three reasons for cheating endorsed by both women and men were exactly the same: lack of love for primary partner, desire for sexual variety, and situational factors."Sometimes, the reasons women cheat are sexually motivated.If you want to dig a little deeper into why women cheat, Alicia Walker, Ph.D., an assistant professor of sociology at Missouri State University, is a good person to ask — she spent a year interviewing women who've had extramarital affairs for her book, The Secret Life of the Cheating Wife. She found more nuance to the idea that women cheat for sexual variety.”In my studies on women's infidelity, I found women were outsourcing the sexual pleasure in their relationships in an effort to remain in their primary partnerships," she says. "They believed that if they continued to go without their sexual needs being met, they would have to break up their families and break their partner's heart. None of the women made the decision to cheat lightly. After years and sometimes decades of trying to improve things in their marriages, they decided to look elsewhere." That doesn't mean that women who cheat are always looking to save their primary partnership. Sometimes, it's the opposite: "One of the main reasons women cheat is to blow up a relationship that makes them feel trapped in some way," says Charlynn Ruan, Ph.D., a clinical psychologist and founder of Thrive Psychology Group, a group practice in California that specializes in women. "Often they're with a partner who seems like a nice person, but is controlling, stifling, or emotionally unavailable. The woman tries to make changes, to get their partner to do couples therapy, or push their partner to grow or meet them more emotionally, but when the woman doesn't succeed in these attempts, cheating gives a reason for their partner to leave them."This often comes with a lot of guilt, Dr. Ruan adds. "I think the unconscious narrative is often, 'He's a nice guy, but I'm miserable. There is something wrong with me,'" she says. "So, they act out to end the relationship. In heterosexual couples, research shows that women are much more likely than men to initiate divorce, and are happier after divorce than men. But, for women who struggle with guilt over leaving a partner, feel like he needs her, and don't feel their own happiness is enough justification to reach escape velocity in their relationship, cheating gives them a way out."

Cultural stereotypes tell us that it’s usually men who step out on their wives and girlfriends. However, research shows that nearly as many women cheat as men. Which makes sense, because it takes two to tango, so to speak. That said, men and women often cheat for different reasons, with the motivations typically (though not always) falling in line with our general understanding of male vs. female sexuality. Basically, men tend to be comfortable with a purely sexual experience devoid of emotional connection, while women tend to be more interested in sexuality that includes (or at least promises) a degree of emotional intimacy. So, both men and women engage in infidelity, but they often do so for different reasons.

Generally, a woman’s decision to cheat is driven by one or more of the following factors:

A woman may have an issue with sex, porn, or love addiction. In such cases, a woman with unresolved childhood trauma, especially sexual trauma, will attempt to self-soothe her emotional pain, anxiety, and depression with romantic and sexual fantasies and activity. For this woman, sexual behavior is not about having fun, it’s about numbing out. A woman may feel unappreciated, ignored, and neglected in her primary relationship. If a woman feels more like a housekeeper, nanny, or financial provider than a loved and respected wife or girlfriend, she may seek external validation through hookups and affairs. A woman may have an issue with alcohol or drugs—substances that affect her decision-making, possibly resulting in regrettable sexual decisions (including infidelity). Some women cheat because they have unrealistic (and therefore unfulfilled) expectations about what their partner and their relationship should provide. A woman may think her partner should fulfill her every whim and desire, 24/7/365, failing to see that this is an impossible standard. And when her expectations are not met, she may seek external fulfillment. A woman may cheat because she lacks self-esteem. She may feel unattractive, or old, or disempowered, or whatever, and seek extramarital romance and sex to bolster her view of herself. She may reason, “If someone wants to be with me, I must be worthwhile.” Some women cheat because they are reenacting or latently responding to childhood trauma—everything from abandonment to overt sexual abuse. Often, this is a way of trying to control or master abuse that they couldn’t control or master as a child. Some women just don’t understand what love really feels like. They think the rush of first romance (technically referred to as limerence) is what true love feels like. These women fail to understand that in healthy long-term relationships, the neurochemical rush of limerence is replaced over time with less intense but ultimately more meaningful forms of intimacy and connection. A woman might cheat because she craves intimacy but isn’t getting it from her primary romantic partner. More so than men, women feel valued and connected through emotional interaction and communication. If a woman is not getting this need met at home, she may seek fulfillment elsewhere. Some women cheat to alleviate boredom or loneliness. This is especially likely with women who find themselves at home for long periods of time (perhaps caring for young kids, or even after the kids are grown and gone). These women feel a lack of importance and meaning, so they use hookups and affairs to fill the void.

Hey #TheJoshCast, I want us to talk about something that’s hard and controversial. Sometimes it can feel like cheating is built into the fabric of the male psyche, but none of the reasons men (and women) try to excuse their behaviour aren’t worth interrogation. Men hear the old adage “boys will be boys” so often that sometimes we believe the hype and treat it like a manifesto. Cheating, for example, isn’t exclusive to men but it’s definitely looked upon as something we’re much more prone to doing. But why do we do it? Is it “just because”?

Psycho-sexologist and psychosexual and relationship therapist Kate Moyle says, “The reasons for infidelity are varied and often unique to the situation, individual or couple; however, there may be other factors at play that influence the decision to act on the desire to cheat or motivate the person to take the step to stray.” How many times have we heard of a guy who is part of a supposedly perfect couple going ahead and cheating anyway? It’s just very us, isn’t it? Take Jay-Z, for example: if three albums’ worth of material is to be believed – Beyoncé’s Lemonade, Jay’s 4:44 and the pair’s collaboration Everything Is Love – then the megastar rapper himself played away from home, and he, it would seem, had everything to lose. Kate Moyle reckons no man is immune to wondering whether their needs might be better served elsewhere, no matter how cushy their current setup might be: “The culture that we currently live in promotes the idea of more, more, more and that the grass is always greener,” she says. “It can feel that we are metaphorically constantly looking through the looking glass into other people’s lives and relationships, and although we know it’s often a curated reality, we can’t help but compare ourselves and this can create expectations and disappointment.” Maybe our wandering eye comes from a reluctance to be tied down, a problem with committing or a relationship going too fast. Rather than confront the situation head-on, some men act out – the sexual equivalent of a toddler defacing a wall with crayons while you’re not looking. It’s like we want to be found out. While all infidelity can leave a scar, this is a pretty destructive reason for cheating. Saying it’s over will hurt, yes, but letting your partner discover your infidelity and do the dirty work for you is not the most grown-up of solutions. Perhaps it’s easier to deal with the shame of what you’ve done than try to explain why a relationship isn’t working for you, but the fewer landmines you leave in your wake, the better. Is this the kind of behaviour people expect from us? As men, we have a lot to live up to when it comes to sex. We’re pressured to be always-on, perma-aroused sex machines – think of the dubious scientific fact that a man thinks about sex every seven seconds, or the differences between talking about a man who has a lot of sex and a woman who does the same. Divorcee Marsha, who was married for eight years until her husband’s incessant infidelity broke them up, tells me, “Boys are taught they should go and see the world before they settle down – sow their wild oats – while women are supposed to dream of being a bride who’ll be there waiting when they’re done.” There’s a level of immaturity that seems to be accepted in men and a bogus assertion that we can’t control ourselves. Having a variety of sexual partners is seen as a badge of honour among some men and Marsha is not here for it. “It’s only when they get caught that they understand the real consequences of what they’ve done,” she says. “Most men wouldn’t care about anyone else if they weren’t caught.”

This Urban dictionary definition pretty much nails what a booty call is. It’s when someone calls you late at night to hook up, usually when they have no other options, and after the bars have closed and they’ve struck out with everyone else. They don’t like you for anything more than gittin’ “a little.” There is no relationship. There’s no commitment of monogamy or commitment of any kind. A booty call is a shallow, usually one-sided relationship for the benefit of gittin’ the “goods” without putting in the work.

You don’t want to be someones booty call. Yet, in sales, particularly with channels, too many people and companies are nothing but booty calls.

A booty call in sales is when a channel partner or a customer calls you up asking you for help or to do something for them, but never seem to be available for you. The channel has a big deal on the table and their prospect is interested in your product or service and the channel asks you to come in and help close the deal. But, when you call the channel and ask them to introduce you to a customer of theirs they just can’t seem to find the time or won’t do it. A sales booty call is when a customer calls up and asks for a demo or a free trial but then when you ask for a meeting to share your new product coming out at the end of the quarter, they are nowhere to be found.Sales booty calls are brutal. It’s when your partners and customers are quick to call you up and ask for a little love, but are nowhere to be found when you need a little love back. Sales booty calls, like real booty calls, circumvent a relationship for one person’s gain. Most booty calls exploit one person’s desire for a relationship for the other person’s desire to get the “goods” without a commitment. You don’t want to be a booty call. Never have a one-sided relationship where your partners or customers take but don’t give. Provide enough value that your customers and partners are willing to give as much as they take or get out. Create enough value so that a real relationship, a give and take relationship, can exist.If you’re channel partners will only work with you when it serves their needs. You are a booty call. When your customer only wants to talk with you when they need you to give them something, you are a booty call.Don’t be a sales booty call, they are the worst. At least a real life booty call can feel good. But, with a sales booty call you’re just getting screwed!

When you want to fix a negative situation, you have to know the cause. In love nothing happens by accident so if your partner tells you that the love they felt for you has dwindled, it means that your relationship had already been having issues. Oftentimes when people come to see me with this problem, they realize that their life together had just become routine. You had your habits, you weren’t continuing to seduce your partner, and you were thinking you had her in your pocket. You’re now paying the price. It’s imperative that you don’t think that a person’s love for you is eternal if you don’t do anything to maintain it. When you stop making them feel special, their emotions diminish.Sometimes you’re not solely responsible for this situation but you still suffer the consequences. If your partner has met someone new at work or somewhere else, their emotions could be shaken up. If she’s interested in someone new she could be in the seduction phase and therefore could be questioning everything right now. In this situation, saying, “She doesn’t love me” anymore isn’t the best option simply because even though she might be feeling something for someone else, it doesn’t necessarily mean that she no longer feels anything for you. As I explained, when a woman’s feelings start to disappear little by little, it’s usually because the relationship was becoming stagnant or because there was a recurring problem. I wasn’t just going to settle down with the first guy that was “just ok” so that I could get out of the dating scene.I had a good attitude on every date which likely made me more enjoyable to be around.Going on tons of bad dates has left me with some pretty killer stories. This is probably one of the most important dating tips because if you don’t follow it, you might end up in a long term relationship (or even married) to the wrong guy. This is like getting a life prison sentence. I’ve seen this happen time and time again, and I’m sure you have too – where people are in relationships that they hate. I have been to weddings where everyone in the audience knew that bride and groom were no good for each other. You don’t want this to be you. We can all learn from people who don’t want to waste a lot of time doing things that are going nowhere,” said Dr. Fisher, the co-author of a chapter on “slow love” in the 2018 anthology “The New Psychology of Love,” published by Cambridge University Press.She notes that people who date three years or more before marrying are 39 percent less likely to divorce than people who rush into marriage. “This is a real extended period of the pre-commitment stage,” said Dr. Fisher. “With slow love, maybe by the time people walk down the aisle they know who they’ve got, and they think they can keep who they’ve got.” Ask millennials and they will tell you that there is nothing casual about their approach to sex, dating and romance. Hooking up with someone doesn’t mean that millennials now don’t value marriage,” says Anne Kat Alexander, who at 23 is in the second wave of the millennial generation. “If anything, they value marriage more because they are putting a lot more forward thinking into that decision.”Dr. Fisher says her research suggests today’s singles seek to learn as much as possible about a potential partner before they spend time, energy and money on courtship. As a result, the path to romance has changed significantly. Whereas a “first date” used to represent the getting-to-know-you phase of a courtship, now going on an official date with someone comes later in the relationship.And for some singles, sex has become the getting-to-know you phase of courtship. In a study conducted for Match.com, Dr. Fisher found that among a representative sample, 34 percent of singles had sex with somebody before the first date. She calls it “the sex interview.” For millennials, financial issues also loom large in their decisions about relationships. They talk about the burden of student debt, and their desire to find meaningful work in an increasingly impersonal job market. Many say their lives were deeply affected by the 2008 financial crisis as they watched their parents lose businesses, struggle with debt and even go through divorces. According to surveys conducted in 2020, The millennial cohort is roughly defined as those who were born in the 1980s to the early 2000s — although there is some debate about the boundaries. Millennials, due in part to their digital savvy, already are credited with significant changes in how we live, work and interact.But what is particularly striking is how quickly the cohort has rewritten the rules for courtship, sex and marriage. In 2018, the median age of first marriage was approaching 30 (29.8 for men and 27.8 for women). That’s more than a five-year delay in marriage compared to 1980, when the median age was 24.7 for men and 22 for women.A 2017 study in the Archives of Sexual Behavior found that many younger millennials in their early 20s aren’t having sex, and are more than twice as likely to be sexually inactive than the previous generation. Another study found that American couples ages 25 to 34 spend an average of six and a half years together before marrying, compared with an average of five years for all other age groups.Critics say digital saturation has made millennials more socially isolated, restless and entitled, which could explain why they are having less sex than earlier generations. And when millennials do have sex, it’s often viewed as less meaningful because they engage in “hookups” or sexual relationships described as “friends with benefits.” Dr. Fisher, author of “Anatomy of Love: A Natural History of Mating, Marriage, and Why We Stray,” has devoted her career to studying love and relationships. Most recently she has collected data on more than 30,000 people related to current courtship and marriage trends. Dr. Fisher believes that instead of criticizing and judging millennials, perhaps we should be paying more attention. It's here—the coronavirus vaccine, the "light at the end of the tunnel" and the beginning of the end of this pandemic. With shots mailed out today from Kalamazoo, Michigan, public health experts like Dr. Anthony Fauci are hoping to eventually get at least "75 percent, 80 percent of the population vaccinated" for it to be effective. However, there is a subset of Americans that should not take the COVID vaccine, according to news released today by the Food and Drug Administration. many Americans consider lying to be more prevalent than in the past. 66% of Americans, in general, think they are lied to, at least, some of the time, up from 45% thirty years ago when USA Today asked the same question. The proportion of U.S. residents who currently think they are lied to includes 7% who say they are lied to all the time, 9% who believe they do not receive the whole truth most of the time, and 50% who think they are lied to some of the time. Currently, 33% of U.S. residents, down from 53% when USA Today measured this question in 1986, say they are seldom on the receiving end of a lie. Millions of Americans can be forgiven for not placing blind trust in federal and state government leaders and their health advisers, whose main tactic was to order Americans to surrender freedoms while an entire national economy was intentionally crashed, leading to the loss of millions of jobs and the accumulation of trillions of dollars (and counting) in additional debt. A Chinese virologist who has reportedly been in hiding over fear for her safety has stepped out into the public eye again to make the explosive claim that she has scientific evidence to prove that COVID-19 was human-made in a lab in China — despite American studies refuting the controversial claim.

Dr. Li-Meng Yan, a scientist who says she did some of the earliest research into COVID-19 last year, made the comments Friday during an interview on the British talk show “Loose Women.” When asked where the deadly virus that has killed more than 900,000 around the globe comes from, Yan — speaking via video chat from a secret location — replied, “It comes from the lab — the lab in Wuhan and the lab is controlled by China’s government.”

There is a great dualism presented in this verse. In one phrase Isaiah points out that a child is born, but then he asserts that a son is given. Why say twice what appears to be essentially the same thing? Because the two are not the same, not in the least. On that first Christmas about 2,000 years ago, the child Jesus was born, but the Son is preexistent. The Son was not born, for He always has been and always will be. The child was born, but the Son was given. Yes, the child and the Son are One, but the terms used to describe Him are very different indeed.

A Child is born ... speaks of the Humanity of Christ. A Son is given ... speaks of the Divinity of Christ. A Child is born ... speaks of Impotence. A Son is given ... speaks of Omnipotence. A Child is born ... speaks of the Terrestrial. A Son is given ... speaks of the Celestial. A Child is born ... that speaks of the Earthly. A Son is given ... speaks of the Heavenly. A Child is born ... speaks of the Son of Man. A Son is given... that speaks of the Son of God. Isaiah caught the duality of Christ in simple, but profound words as he described the wonderful gift God was giving to the world - namely, His own Son. Just think of it, "Jesus had an earthly mother, but no earthly father. Jesus has a heavenly Father, but no heavenly mother." In essence, God's Son from heaven came to be born as a child here on earth for the express purpose of redeeming the lost race of humanity.

In this passage Isaiah speaks of four titles for the Son. If one reads the Bible carefully, he or she will discover that the Word of God contains more than 225 terms, names or titles for our Lord. Truly, His name is the name above every name. In this four part series, we are going to look at the four titles, which Isaiah gave to us in this passage, and relate them to our lives right now.

The four names are:

Wonderful Counselor Mighty God Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace We begin today with the title Wonderful Counselor.

The name Counselor, and the adjective Wonderful, are filled with meaning - as we shall see. A counselor is one who gives advice, leads, or defends someone. But we must be careful to whom we turn for counsel. The story is told of two bums sitting together on a park bench. One of them said to the other, "I'm a man who never took advice from anybody." The other said, "Shake my hand, old buddy, for I'm the man who followed everybody's advice."

The problem for many people is they will not listen to words of wisdom. For others, they are listening to the wrong voices or they heed too many voices. Today we are going to consider listening to and following the Wonderful Counselor.

The number of people in the U.S. killed by Covid-19 could nearly double in the next several months despite a nationwide vaccine rollout, health researchers warn.

The U.S. is forecast to see a cumulative 539,000 deaths by April 1, according to a Dec. 4 report published by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington's School of Medicine. More than 279,000 people in the U.S. have died from the virus and more than 14.3 million have been infected, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. The country is expected to approve and begin distributing one or more vaccines as early as December. If ever there were a time when our eyes could be drawn away from Christ toward the waves of fear and doubt, right now is such a time! And if ever our trust could be fixed in the good intentions of our persistent efforts, right now is such a time.

Our safety as we see it is tied up with how consistently and thoroughly we wash our hands, how conscientiously we maintain our social distance, how deliberately we sequester ourselves from public life.

But that’s not where our safety comes from. That’s not how our health is maintained. Yes, each of these disciplines is important in a time of pandemic. And as we’ve stated, adhering to them is not just an exercise in self-protection; it’s how we best love one another.

But our faith is not fixed in these practices. They are not the ultimate means by which we’re kept safe.

There is one God in heaven Who is King and Lord of all. There is one God in heaven to Whom every entity in this universe is subject. Even the occasional virus that’s new to finite and vulnerable human beings has been known eternally by this great and glorious God! And we are His. He is our… Father. We are His image-bearing creatures. And He reigns over us. He has named us, each and all (15). No virus will touch us unless He has given it permission. No virus will take us unless He has appointed it to do so. And if the washing of our hands and the keeping of our distance has resulted in our sustained health, it’s not because those practices are fool-proof. It’s because our God has purposed them as the means by which we’re being taught to walk by faith in Him, and the way in which He has willed to achieve His purpose in us.

Months have passed since Covid-19 disrupted our lives, and many of us long for normalcy again. We long for the familiar again. We long for the way it used to be again. Yet, if we are honest, we realize the way it used to be may never be again. And, even though we know the pandemic in which we find ourselves is temporary, sometimes it does not feel so temporary. Things have changed. Routines have changed. Normalcy has left us, and an unwelcomed, uninvited new normal has brazenly sashayed into our lives leaving us reeling from its unexpected blow. Governments, in countries across the globe, have responded to this virus with great tenacity. Here, in the United States, our federal government has responded with social distance guidance, payroll protection programs, and stimulus checks, among other things. Governors and mayors in states and cities across the country have responded to this virus in a myriad of ways- some good and some perhaps not so good. But, what about us? How should we as people of faith respond to this invisible enemy? How should we as people of faith respond to this chaotic crisis that has wreaked havoc on our world, taken what we love, and those we love? What should our response be? Siblings in Christ, we find the answer to that question in God’s word. For God’s word lets us know that all the time and especially during this unprecedented time, we can have the peace of God in our lives. Our response is to not be anxious and to rest in the Peace of God.

Martin Luther said “To be a Christian without prayer is no more possible than to be alive without breathing.” Jesus’ teaching in the Sermon on the Mount tests us and challenges us at every turn. Jesus calls us to a life that is so breathtakingly beautiful, and yet at the same time so difficult to live out. Jesus isn’t satisfied with external behavior in the Sermon on the Mount, but he keeps digging into our hearts. As we said at the beginning of the Sermon on the Mount, righteousness isn’t simply a matter of outward behavior but it’s a matter of the heart. Asking is simply expressing your need to God. Ask, and you will receive. What a beautiful promise!

The word “seek” intensifies the process. We seek when we don’t know where something is. In seeking we understand that there is concentrated time and effort involved. So yes, prayer is asking, but it is not a hit and run. We spend time seeking God in prayer and in his word. Seeking is a process, and it doesn’t happen all at once.

On April 4, 1967, Dr.Martin Luther King Jr. stood and delivered this powerful at the Riverside church in New York City condemning The Vietnam War. Declaring “My conscience leaves me no other choice.” Dr.King told reporters on Face the Nation that as a Minister, He had a “Prophetic Function”. In the speech He said “We are Faced with the fact that tomorrow is today. We are confronted with the fierce urgency of now.” When Dr.King spoke these words , He reminded us “Fierce urgency of now”. He reminded us that we need one another and that we are stronger as we March together and work together to build and do God’s will. As we do God’s will, there Is an urgency of Now. Let’s go to this named Nehemiah who had a mindset on “The Urgency of Now.” The book of Nehemiah shows the fulfillment of the prophecies of Zechariah and Daniel concerning the rebuilding of Jerusalem’s walls. It is easy to analyze, scrutinize, and talk about the problems in the world. But we need people who will not just discuss a bad situation, but will do something about it . Nehemiah saw a problem and was distressed. Instead of wallowing in self pity and grief , He took action. Nehemiah knew that God wanted him to movirvate the Jews to rebuild Jerusalem’s walls , so He left a responsible position in the Persian government to do what God wanted. Nehemiah knew God could use His skills and talents to get the job done. From the moment He arrived in Jerusalem everyone Knew He was in charge. He organized, managed, supervised, helped, encouraged , met opposition, confronted injustice, and kept going until the walls were built. Nehemiah was a man of action and vision.

In 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Once said “ Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.” 50 years later we are seeing an injustice carried out in America with the wrongful killing and cowardly murder to our daughter and sister Breonna Taylor . 3 Cowardly police officers murdered Breonna Taylor . EMT and aspiring nurse Breonna Taylor, 26, was shot to death by police in her own home on March 13. In what has been described as a “botched raid,” officers barged into Taylor’s apartment in Louisville, Kentucky, as she lay sleeping, and fired multiple rounds. Months after she was senselessly killed, Taylor’s name has been chanted all over the country at mass protests against racist police brutality, which erupted after the death of Minneapolis resident George Floyd, also at the hands of police. On September 23 — over six months after Taylor was killed — just one of the officers involved in the shooting was indicted by a grand jury. Officer Brett Hankison faces three charges of wanton endangerment, a class D felony that carries a penalty of one to five years in prison. Five days later, amid outrage over the decision, one member of that grand jury asked that the proceedings be made public, “so that the truth may prevail.”Taylor was shot eight times by law enforcement. According to a lawsuit filed by her family, her killing was the result of a botched drug-warrant execution. No drugs were found; the warrant in question targeted another person, who lived miles away and had already been detained by the time police entered Taylor’s home. Actor Chadwick Boseman, who brought the movie "Black Panther" to life with his charismatic intensity and regal performance, has died.Boseman has battled colon cancer since 2016 and died at home with his family and wife by his side, according to a statement posted on his Twitter account. He was 43.”A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you so many of the films you have come to love so much," the statement said. The Black Panther star was an inspiration, not just because of the characters he beautifully brought to life but the passion and generous nature that he presented to the world. We only got a small glimpse into the special man that Boseman was, but his legacy will continue to grow and be admired by those who got the privilege to work with him, know him, or just watch him act.

According to CNN Business , A pair of Black-led banks on opposite coasts are joining forces to become the largest minority-owned depository institution in the United States, according to FDIC data.City First Bank and Broadway Federal Bank announced their merger on Wednesday. Combined, the lenders said they would have more than $1 billion in assets.City First President and CEO Brian E. Argrett said the two banks have been working on their deal for a year. Los Angeles-based Broadway Federal is a community-oriented savings bank dedicated to providing conventional loans to minority consumers who often are ignored by mainstream commercial banks, according to the company's website. City First, which is based in Washington DC, describes itself as an "impact-driven" institution that specializes in lending to underprivileged people and communities. Argrett said combining their resources will allow the two banks to accomplish more than they could separately.”It gives us more lending power," Argrett said. "It brings additional financial capacity to be able to serve Back-owned businesses." I believe in the power of Black Banks and it’s time we support and push to close this wealth gap. On April 4, 1967 Martin Luther King, Jr., delivered his seminal speech at Riverside Church condemning the Vietnam War. Declaring “my conscience leaves me no other choice,” King described the war’s deleterious effects on both America’s poor and Vietnamese peasants and insisted that it was morally imperative for the United States to take radical steps to halt the war through nonviolent means. 50 years later , I felt the urgency to bring awareness on A disease that is killing my people called Mental Health. Mental illnesses affect 19% of the adult population, 46% of teenagers and 13% of children each year. People struggling with their mental health may be in your family, live next door, teach your children, work in the next cubicle or sit in the same church pew.

However, only half of those affected receive treatment, often because of the stigma attached to mental health. Untreated, mental illness can contribute to higher medical expenses, poorer performance at school and work, fewer employment opportunities and increased risk of suicide. Although the general perception of mental illness has improved over the past decades, studies show that stigma against mental illness is still powerful, largely due to media stereotypes and lack of education, and that people tend to attach negative stigmas to mental health conditions at a far higher rate than to other diseases and disabilities, such as cancer, diabetes or heart disease.

Stigma affects not only the number seeking treatment, but also the number of resources available for proper treatment. Stigma and misinformation can feel like overwhelming obstacles for someone who is struggling with a mental health condition. Fifty years ago, James Brown, the "Godfather of Soul," released the iconic song, "Say It Loud, I'm Black and I'm Proud." It was released in August 1968, just four months after the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. Randall Kennedy, a Harvard law professor, said he remembers when he first heard the song. The funk- and soul-inspired hit was like nothing he had heard before — especially at a time in which Kennedy said overt "colorism," or the preference for lighter skin color, was prevalent in the black community. It is one of the landmark cultural texts of the 1960s. The Black Liberation Movement had a variety of fronts. One front was outward facing challenging white supremacy. The other front, however, and a very important front was the inner struggle in black America to rehabilitate itself, reclaim itself. The basis of Black Power is various ideologies that aim at achieving self-determination for black people in the U.S. Black power dictates that blacks create their own identities despite being subjected to pre-existing societal factors. The first popular use of the term "Black Power" as a political and racial slogan was by Stokely Carmichael (later known as Kwame Ture) and Willie Ricks (later known as Mukasa Dada), both organizers and spokespersons for the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). Now Fifty years later , Beyonce comes now and says in the midst of civil unrest , Black Lives matter and A crazy Trump in office and declares “Black is KING 👑”! Black Is King, Beyoncé’s third visual album, which was released on Disney+ on July 31, reinvents the coming of age story of The Lion King. The film’s narrative mirrors Simba’s journey from young prince to king. But Black Is King, which was directed and produced by and stars Beyoncé, tells an altogether different story that cements ancestral connections between Black Americans and the people of the African diaspora. In my opinion, In a world full of racism, a world where being Black makes many doubt their capabilities, Beyoncé Knowles' Black Is King – a visual companion to the 2019 album The Lion King: The Gift — is a breath of fresh air. In it she shows that Black is beautiful. Black is glorious! Black Is King is inspired by the 2019 remake of The Lion King. It tells viewers the story of a young African king who is cast out into the world as a baby — and grows up to return home to reclaim his throne. Along the way, he meets figures who connect him to his history, his family and identity – with ample music and dancing. Beyoncé, who plays a mother figure and narrator throughout the film, encourages Black people to see the leader within and not be defined by negative narratives of Africa. “Get in good trouble, necessary trouble, and redeem the soul of America.” John Lewis made this statement on the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama on March 1, 2020 commemorating the tragic events of Bloody Sunday. Bloody Sunday occurred on March 7, 1965 as peaceful protesters were beaten by law enforcement officers for crossing the bridge. Lewis and others like Amelia Boynton Robinson were beaten so badly they were hospitalized.The context behind the march is significant. The 600-person civil rights march was actually about police brutality. Jimmie Lee Jackson, a 26-year-old church deacon, was killed by James Bonard Fowler, a state trooper in Alabama. This march also occurred a year and a half after the infamous March on Washington highlighting that little had changed in the lives of Black people in America. Bloody Sunday was highlighted in Ava Duvernay’s Oscar-nominated best picture film Selma. Musicians John Legend and Common won an Oscar for the song “Glory.”Bloody Sunday is often noted as a pinnacle of Lewis’ life.

Why is financial literacy important in the Black Community? How can you help other with financial literacy? What’s the big deal with financial literacy ? Financial literacy is important because it equips us with the knowledge and skills we need to manage money effectively. Without it, our financial decisions and the actions we take—or don’t take—lack a solid foundation for success. And this can have dire consequences: Nearly half of Americans don’t expect to have enough money to retire comfortably. Credit card debt has reached its highest point ever. Forty percent of Americans can’t afford a $400 emergency expense. Given the above statistics, it might not be surprising that nearly two-thirds of Americans can’t pass a basic test of financial literacy. Financial literacy is important because it’s pretty much one of the things that will encompass just about every aspect of a person’s life. So even in families, even in marriages, lots of the hard times that people will have are gonna revolve around money. In the system that we live in, everything revolves around money. We’re in a capitalist society, so it’s to everybody’s benefit to know as much as they can about being wise about their money so that they can at least give themselves some type of stability in the future.”

Is the Black Lives Matter movement our new Civil Rights movement in 2020? Would Dr. King March with Black Lives Matter or would He speak against them? Would Malcolm X approve of the riots and stealing in stores and shopping malls ? Do we stand up or sit down ? How do we speak TRUTH during a time of a pandemic , civil unrest , and a financial crisis?
