So I have decided to do a little bit of WordPress podcasting of my own, and so coming to you weekly will be WordPress in Review. WordPress in Review will be a relatively short podcast giving you quick updates on the latest WordPress news, information, themes, and a dash of my own personal opinion.
I was well known for being the “negative” one on the WordPress Podcast, and I can assure you that I won’t always be like that, but it is in my nature to point out things that I think are wrong, and so I hope you will all enjoy the WordPress in Review Podcast.

The WordPress Podcast and WordPress Weekly have put out new episodes this week, giving us WordPress fans something to listen to.
I was part of WordPress Weekly this week as they did Episode 19. I wasn’t on the podcast as much as I had hoped, as I had to pick up my wife, and my MacBook Pro decided to run out of battery life, but overall it was a great show.
The WordPress Podcast comes back with Episode 42, one of the longest episodes to date. It actually talks a bit about WordPress Weekly, and how WordCamp in San Francisco will be the same time as the last day of the Podcast and New Media Expo. I originally thought I would attend WordCamp, but dealing with the flight, hotel and other attendance issues made me decide to stick it out at the bigger, more expensive New Media Expo instead.
I am looking forward to more episodes from both shows, and I hope to eventually get back on the WordPress Podcast at some point, if Charles will ever invite me…
Keep listening on WordPress Weekly, where I will continue to try to keep my Friday nights open for the show.

James Cogan of dailypixel and I got together for another great episode of the TechCanuck podcast. This one is a bit more negative than people are used to as we rant and rave about a few outrageous things happening in the world of technology today.
Show Notes:
a) Canadian Copyright Reform has been officially tabled in the form of Bill C-61. How will this affect Canadians? Is this good for Canadians? We discuss.b) The iPhone finally gets a Canadian launch date. Yay or yawn?
c) The Associated Press launches an assault against bloggers for using headlines and excerpts of AP news stories. It didn’t take long for the blogosphere to send an overwhelming reaction of displeasure back at AP. What the heck is AP thinking?
d) Google-Yahoo-Microsoft: What is going on inside the GYM? We discuss.
It was definitely an interesting episode, and both James and I got fairly heated at times, but that makes it all the more interesting to listen to.
Check out Episode 18 of the TechCanuck Podcast.

Last night, after mowing the lawn, I remembered that I wanted to jump on Skype to listen live to the new episode of the WordPress Weekly podcast, and is sometimes the case, I was also able to participate. WordPress Weekly Episode 16 was a lot of fun to participate in, and I think went really well.
From the show notes:
This week on WordPress Weekly, it was open mic week. However, it didn’t work out as I imagined and thankfully, I had a list of news items to use as a backup plan. It also helped that a couple of regulars who had some free time on their hand showed up to participate in the show. After letting listeners know about the renewal of the domain jeffro2pt0.com for two years, I dove into some feedback that I had received from listeners of the show. After that, introductions were made and then we dove into the news. This panel made one hell of a good show.
One thing that amused me about this and many past episodes is that Charles Stricklin showed up and participated. If he shows up on many more episodes of WordPress Weekly, people are going to start to wonder which podcast is his, though I have to say that it is great to hear him on any/every WordPress related podcast.
Also, for those of you that follow Matt Mullenweg around, I am sure you will be excited to know that in an upcoming episode of WordPress Weekly, Matt will be making an appearance, so keep checking out Jeffro2pt0 for more details.
Thanks again to Jeff, and if you are interested in listening live, or participating, episodes are recorded every Friday night at 9pm EST.

James and I haven’t done a TechCanuck podcast in a while, and so we were well overdue. We love working together on talking about technology, the web, and everything related to it.
Head on over to dailypixel to have a listen and let me know what you think.
Show Notes:
a) The rise of ad networks – Six Apart announces that they are morphing into Six Apart Media an advertising network for blog publishers and it will compete directly with Glam Media and Federated Media. Also, Glam cuts its rates and what does that mean for new players and how do players like Adify which is letting everyone roll their own advertising network like Forbes fit into the mix?b) The Top 100 Global Brand rankings were just released and Google is the world’s #1 ranked brand. Coca-Cola which held that spot for many years has officially given way to a wave of technology companies. We discuss the trends.
c) Shyftr started a debate about how much of blogging content could be syndicated without upsetting the content creators. Is this a symptom of a larger issue – ie, is blog content a commodity, and if so, what is it worth in an era of aggregation and off-site conversation?
d) Microsoft-Yahoo, what the heck is going on here? Who has the most to lose if a deal isn’t consummated soon? We discuss.
It was definitely a fun episode, and while my mic quality seems to be a little low, I hope you will all enjoy it.

The title is only true for today. I was hoping to put up a new episode of the Xfep Podcast today, but we just got a new puppy. She is a black lab/husky mix and is only six weeks old. She is very afraid of everything, and as such, she is very dependent on me right now. It’s cute, but a bit tiring. I will be putting up a new episode on Monday, but hopefully I will have a chance to write up some new great content during the weekend, so keep checking back.
Thank you to all those that are checking out the podcast. I would love it if you would all leave some feedback on the length, quality, and content.

Chris Garrett and I came together to record the pilot of The FourFourNiner podcast. He’s a great designer, and I am a full time blogger, and together we answer questions related to design, coding, blogging, and making money online.
In this pilot episode we talked about applying for a blog job, our favourite CSS learning resources, connecting with your clients, and moving away from WordPress.com to your own WordPress.org blog.
It is around half an hour long, and we mention many great sites which Chris has linked to on the show notes for the show.
If you have a question for Chris and I, feel free to leave a comment or contact him on The449. Let me know what you thought of the episode. We had a lot of fun recording it.
Sidenote: Chris is going to get a better mic for the shows.

A little while back now, Chris Garrett and I got together again for another episode of the FourFourNiner podcast, where we answer blogging and design related questions.
From the limited show notes:
David and I are back to answer more bloggers questions! Episode 2 sees us tucking into Blog Networks, Expression Engine vs. WordPress (with input from the legendary Andy Clarke), letting people post to your blog (and David shows us with a snazzy plugin).
Chris, even with me crying for him not too, added some out takes at the end, sure to make some people laugh at us being kinda dumb.
Definitely worth listening to if you have thirty minutes to spare. Check it out on The449 blog.

James Cogan and I got together for another episode. This one was a little delayed due to James being under the weather, but thankfully, he has mostly recovered and we were able to create another episode.
This week we talk about Automattic, and their continued business developments, the likely recession in the US, and the Apple MacBook Air.
a) Automattic has been awfully busy of late. Closing a $29.5M round of funding and now there’s news of Prologue – a Twitter-like publishing service. Let’s discuss this latest flurry of news, and of course – where is this ultimately going for Automattic?
b) Let’s talk about the ‘R’ word. It seems the United States is plunging fast and furious into a deep recession. What does this mean for online publishers, bloggers and advertising in general? Will the recession have a material impact on the pocketbooks of those who rely on internet advertising to pay their bills?
c) Macworld has come and gone and we’re left with the MacBook Air. Is it just Hot Air or is there substance behind the world’s thinnest laptop computer?
Check it out on Dailypixel.ca, and let me know what you think of episode 16.

James Cogan and I have come together to record another TechCanuck podcast, and this one was a lot of fun. If you are interested in two Canadians talking about technology, web 2.0 and other subjects, this is definitely the episode I would recommend checking out.
Talking Points
a) Facebook terminates Robert Scoble’s account and it’s World War III in the blogosphere. Is Facebook’s desire to keep your data on Facebook justified, reasonable, necessary or is it not playing fair in the game of Web 2.0 where data is free-flowing and off-site mashups are the norm?b) The blogosphere is all atwitter over Twitter’s business model or lack of one. Does it have one? Does Twitter need one right now?
c) New Year’s predictions – Internet advertising slowdown? Blogging jumped the shark? Google a content producer? We discuss.
One of the things that James and I talked about is the fact that blogging will continue to change this year, and it might not be for the better. Check out my Blogging in 2008: Time to Worry? post for a few more details on the issues facing blogging.
Right now James and I have been good about keeping up a one podcast per month schedule, which we are hoping to increase to two a month, but it all depends on our workloads. A big thanks to James for continuing to take the bigger burden with all the producing, editing and publishing of the episodes we record.
If you haven’t subscribed to keep up to date on the TechCanuck podcast, you might want to sign up, as we will continue to bring some great content, and strong opinions.

James Cogan and I got together again to podcast, and this time we covered some great topics, including our recent attendance of the nextMEDIA conference.
Check out the TechCanuck podcast if you haven’t already.
Talking Points
a) The nextMEDIA 2007 conference has come and gone – what are our lasting impressions and take-aways from the 2-day event that took place in Toronto on November 27th.b) Facebook backlash – It’s not just a select few bloggerati who are leaving Facebook, it appears there is a growing general discontent with all things Facebook. Advertisers are opting out, mothers are leaving, bloggers are leaving and most of the buzz that was once so positive has turned negative. Is this just a bump in the road – a little blip on the radar screen, or is this the beginning of the decline of Facebook?
c) Technorati has relaunched with a stronger emphasis on its core blogger audience. A change was needed, but is this enough to rescue its dwindling relevance? Additionally, is aggregation the new fad?
d) With the holiday season about to hit full swing, gadgets and video games will be high on most people’s list. What are going to be the hottest electronics being bought this year – what are we eyeing? Also, as an aside – let’s take a temperature of the video game market. How are the PS3, Wii and 360 doing?
Some interesting topics with James and I having very different opinions on certain information and issues popping up.

If you liked the Xfep podcasts, which will return soon, then you will definitely enjoy the TechCanuck podcast. It covers all the amazing things going online, and we try to bring it back to Canada as often as we can.
Check out James Cogan and I on TechCanuck.
Talking Points
a) Wireless broadband continues to emanate potential and possibilities with companies like Google lurking. The latest rumor has Google (and perhaps with/others) pursuing an acquisition of Sprint. Could Sprint be the catalyst that leads to a major shakeup in the broadband delivery business?b) Derek Featherstone, web consultant via Ottawa-based consultancy Further Ahead joins us to talk about the second iteration of the Vancouver-based web development conference he founded as well as some general web standards and accessibility points.
c) ‘Tis the season for another Digg acquisition rumor. Will Digg finally sell? Or is this more PR?
d) Google is in talks with American Idol creator Simon Fuller. What is Google up to? Could GoogleTV be next? Listen as we discuss the possibilities.
e) Closing thoughts.

There is always more of me podcasting, I don’t just do them here, so if you are interested in technology, and what is going on with the web, check out the TechCanuck Podcast, where I am a co-host with James Cogan, owner of Dailypixel, a new media network.
Here is what we talked about in this episode:
a) How do we not talk about Facebook? Microsoft wins the bidding war with Google. How important was this investment for Microsoft? Does this valuation mean Facebook is on a collision course for an IPO? Is Facebook the second coming of Google?
b) Google tweaks their PageRank algorithm and publishers/bloggers everywhere are outraged. What happened here? Does anybody really know? Is Google’s secret sauce too secretive? Do they have too much influence? Was this PageRank correction expected, needed, or totally unfair?
c) Apple is about to release the much anticipated update to OSX – Leopard. Will this live up to the hype? Is Leopard stealing Vista’s thunder?
d) One of Canada’s largest independent digital advertising/creative agencies ‘Blast Radius’ has been bought (offices in Vancouver, Toronto etc.) The same way that mergers and acquisitions are rampant on the web, this is also the case in the advertising world as digital/interactive agencies are being heavily courted by traditional agencies. The CEO of the worldwide company that acquired ‘Blast Radius’ had some interesting/revealing comments on the logic behind the acquisition. Is this more proof that we are ‘not’ in a bubble, but simply experiencing the rise of all things digital and web?
Check it out, and let us know your thoughts.

For all of you that didn’t realize, I really enjoy podcasting. I have hosted my own show more than once, and I have been co-host on the WordPress podcast, and the TechCanuck podcast. On Wednesday, James Cogan and I got together online and quickly put together an episode. We are going to be pushing a new one out every two weeks, with the latest news that catches our attention.
You can check out episode 11 over on dailypixel.ca where we cover the following:
a) Canadians are falling in love with online social networks. We discuss a new study released from Ipsos Reid that confirms this.
b) Micro-blogging is hot. Google announced a purchase of Jaiku – a micro-blogging tool. We talk about the micro-blogging space in general, and also what Google’s entrance means for competitors like Twitter and Pownce.
c) The Google G-Phone. We take a stab at what it is, and what it isn’t.
d) Online video advertising. Google announces they are getting serious about monetizing YouTube videos with the launch of a new ad program. Will users revolt?
e) The music business. With DRM becoming an obvious failure, and Radiohead’s revolutionary announcement about how they intend on selling their new album, is this the beginning of a new era for the music industry? Are traditional music labels done for?
James Cogan is the owner of the new media network dailypixel, which is Canadian focused, and includes both great blogs, and great services.
