We invite you to gather information from the experts direct, by asking questions in advance or during the live interview with no expectation to purchase. With everything you see in the GGC we always recommend you do your own research. Our interviews are recorded and shared on the GGC YouTube and Podcast channels, we will never mention or share the names of members who ask questions.
Episode 2: TIT for CHAT
In Episode 1 of Keeping Up With Cosmedicare we caught up with Gill Baird MBA, the inspirational founder of Cosmedicare Cosmetic Surgery, Private Healthcare & Aesthetics, so now we are going to get cracking with our series of monthly lives which focus upon the various surgical and healthcare treatments offered by Cosmedicare to women, men and the transgender community.
We aim to leave no stone unturned, for knowledge is power, and we at the GGC feel strongly about bringing the community as much information from qualified professionals on a variety of topics as we possibly can. Our aim? To enable our members to make empowered choices (should our focus topic be of interest to them) and to provide you all with a unique opportunity to ask the experts questions direct in this very community.
Mr Daniel Widdowson, MBBS, BSc, FRCS (Plast) (fondly known as Dan the Man at Cosmedicare) is a Medical Director at Cosmedicare and one of the leading plastic and reconstructive surgeons in the NHS and private sector specialising in general plastic surgery as well as complex breast reconstruction, augmentation, laser surgery, hand surgery, scar revision, skin tumour excision and burns scar reconstruction, gender reassignment surgery, fat transfer procedures and body contouring. Dan is a member of the British Medical Association and MDU. Within his NHS role, he is the co-lead for Burns surgery in the east of Scotland and heavily involved in the NHS Gender Reassignment surgical pathway nationwide. He is one of the leading specialists in Plastic and reconstructive Surgery in the U.K. and trained in multiple locations including London, Salisbury, Canniesburn and Edinburgh as well as completing fellowships in the USA. As you can imagine, he’s a busy man, but still saves time for his lovely family and love of cars and sports!
This live is NOT about promoting beauty ideals ladies and we feel just as strongly that we are not a community who allows negative judgements of others. This is about supporting anyone who is seeking advice on absolutely anything relating to breast augmentation or reconstructive surgery (a topic which often frequents our feed).
Keeping Up With Cosmedicare is a series of Facebook lives developed as part of a carefully curated paid for partnership. We invite you to learn from the experts direct, by tuning in and asking questions (if the topics covered are of interest) with no expectation to purchase.
THIS IS A PODCAST VERSION OF A LIVE FACEBOOK INTERVIEW WHICH WAS RECORDED ON 6TH MAY. CATCH UP ON THIS NO HOLDS BARRED CHAT FROM THE INSPIRATIONAL GILL BAIRD IN THE VIDEO BELOW.
Almost everyday in the GGC I approve posts which focus upon health, skincare and surgical and non surgical procedures. Sometimes the questions are medical related but more often than not, they are being asked for the simple, yet important, reason of building inner and outer confidence.
So I thought it was about time we team up with the experts, with the aim of giving you lovely lot the chance to ask questions and gather info. For knowledge is power and this year in the GGC Community we are all about bringing you as much information on a variety of topics as we can, with female health and empowered choices being at the forefront.
I am delighted to announce that the GGC are teaming up with Gill Baird, Managing Director and founder of Cosmedicare UK and Medicare Group to bring you a series of monthly educational lives focusing on various aspects of female health and the very often life-changing surgical procedures that are available today.
From faces, to fannies, tummy tucks to breasts (lifts, reductions, implants and more) - we will leave no surgical stone unturned and will give you the opportunity to ask both Gill and her team of leading surgeons and consultants absolutely anything.
Here are some fab facts about Gill Baird, an inspirational Glasgow gal: Gill founded Scotland’s only female-owned and operated Cosmetic Surgery business Cosmedicare UK in 2016.
Graduating with first class distinction from The Hunter Centre of Entrepreneurs at Strathclyde University, Gill majored in Entrepreneurship with business and marketing, before being awarded the only ever granted full scholarship for an MBA in the UK at Stirling University. Gill lived up to her Leader of the Future scholarship award by securing her second first class distinction degree, focussing her research on strategy by working with Scotland’s top entrepreneurs such as Sir Jim McColl and Charan Gill, MBE.
In the five years since its formation, Cosmedicare has cemented its position as Scotland’s fastest growing independent private cosmetic surgery and healthcare provider (which is little wonder with their commitment to delivering best practise focused on delivering procedures in a safe, ethical and patient-centred way).
Gill has expanded the business with clinics in Glasgow, Edinburgh Park and construction is underway on St Ellen’s Hospital, a ground-breaking new state-of-the-art self funded multi-million private healthcare facility that’s set to open summer 2021 in Livingston. Yes you read it right, this wonder woman is building a hospital with not one but two theatres and a complete suite of services in multiple medical disciplines!
In 2020 Gill launched Scotland’s first fully accredited and insured gold standard training academy and mentorship programme for medics and non-medical professionals looking to practise in aesthetics and cosmetic surgery.
Gill also founded the Cosmedicare Trust to deliver financial support for private care for gender affirming and elective reconstructive surgery. Catch up on this live to find out more about this wow woman and stay tuned for the calendar of further lives being announced soon!

In this week’s podcast Laura Maginess catches up with Louise Macdonald and Suki Wan from the National Advisory Council on Woman and Girls. Led by Chief Executive of Young Scot Louise Macdonald - after being appointed by Nicola Sturgeon - the council's aim is to advise the First Minister on what’s needed to tackle gender inequality in Scotland.
The Manifesto of the NACWG is this For generations, our history has been written by one gender. One perspective, one vision, one half of the population. Half of history is missing. For years, we’ve been striving for change. But now is the time to change for good. To design a future where gender inequality is a historical curiosity. With the voice of everyone we want to create a Scotland where we’re all equal – with an equal future. Together, we are generation equal.
Council members invite men, women and children to get involved with their research, giving all a voice through the Circles and the Wee circles which you will hear more about in this podcast. The findings from the questions they ask are then demonstrated in annual reports for the First Minister in which they make recommendations. The First Minister then responds to the report and it is up to the council to hold her and the Scottish government accountable for the promises they make when it comes to making our country equal for all.
There are various ways in which you can get involved in the discussion on gender equality, including:
The Circle The NACWG are supported by a wider group of experts and stakeholders, of all genders – women and men, girls and boys, and those that don’t identity, and meet with them three times a year, to explore the chosen annual topics. This growing group of 800 plus is referred to as the Circle. You can become a member of the Circle here (scroll to the bottom) – you’ll receive an introductory email on the NACWG and some additional resources to support you in your conversations about #GenerationEqual.
Wee Circles The council have just developed a new toolkit to help people – preferably groups as we feel this normalises the conversation on gender inequality – to take forward their on Spotlight Wee circles (see website for more details).
Circle Event The next Circle event is on 25 September in Edinburgh and the council would love to have you and any of the GGC community along (you can register for the event here if it’s of interest: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/first-ministers-national-advisory-council-on-women-girls-circle-event-tickets-61580993409)

It’s Mother’s Day and we wanted to pay homage to it by sharing this podcast with a lady we truly believe to be both ’superwoman’ and ’supermum’. From the second Lesley Robertson saw the positive result on her pregnancy test, she became a lone parent and her world, which involved running a successful marketing and PR business, was turned upside down. A true fighter, Lesley went on to make a career out of being a lone parent, out of being a single mum. She launched a charity called Families Like Us and created play cafes, aimed at parents to create a support network for them, a place where they could get some breathing space and find out more about resources available to them and all whilst their kids played. If parents using the cafes are on a low income or use food banks, they get services for free through a voucher system to remove any stigma. Building upon that Lesley launched an after school theatre programme for kids to help with their confidence and after her son Kyle was turned away from a football team for not being good enough, Lesley went on to create her own community football team for boys and girls ensuring he would always get to be part of the team. With wellbeing days, arts and crafts, community choirs and more all happening as part of her efforts to support the people and families who need it, Lesley has pulled in £1 million in funding in only 18 months including a funding boost from the JK Rowling Volunt Charitable Trust. She has achieved so much and has done so all to make her son proud. Have a listen to this podcast with this wow woman!
