Shady Acres Baptist Church was founded over 100 years ago in the edge of a neighborhood called the Heights. The first church was located at 2104 Bevis in Houston, Texas. Bro. Jack Wood was called in as pastor in the summer of 1974.
The church began to grow and after remodeling the building several times, it was decided the church would move to a larger facility. The church bought Inwood Baptist Church on 7330 Vogel in 1985.
It was not very long until the new church building on Vogel began to fill up; so for several years, Bro. Wood gathered the men on Saturday night to pray for the corner lot that was next to us. After praying and dealing with the owner of property, God gave us a green light. We bought that property and soon started building an even bigger building on the corner of Victory and Vogel. Because he had a desire to build the building debt free, it took seven years to complete the project.
In 1992, Bro. Wood had to have open-heart surgery. The next year he developed diabetes. In 1995 he retired and the church called Bro. Danny Farley as their pastor. Brother Wood traveled for several years until he became very ill and passed away November 12, 1998.

the Bible says much regarding how we think and what we allow in our mind. Based on what we spend time thinking about and dwelling on, will determine our direction. Suicide is never the answer to any problem. Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is the answer to every problem. The Lord Jesus has equipped us with the Holy Spirit and the Holy Scriptures to enable victory in our heart and mind. Don't take people for granted, and do take time to listen to others as you lead them through the Word of God to become established in their mind and life. Discouragement, Despair and Dark times are very real, yet so is the Light of the Lord Jesus! Don't let devil, the world or your flesh keep your mind in captivity! Looking unto Jesus Hallelujah!

DeHaan and other great preachers on the radio. I also began to read books by Dr. John R. Rice, R. A. Torrey and other great preachers. The Lord revolutionized my life!
At age seventeen I joined the United States Marine Corps as an opportunity to serve my country and be a witness to my fellow Marines.
I married Linda Burrell in 1969 and we set out to serve the Lord together. In 1970 we moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee, to attend Tennessee Temple University. Before I took my first class, God used a small article in the Baptist Bible Trumpet, published by Dr. John Waters, to burden my heart about reaching Muslims in the Sahara. The article was written by Dr. Dan Truax, who became my Director for many years. I graduated from Tennessee Temple with a Bachelor's degree in Missions. In December 1973 we joined Baptist International Missions, Inc. (BIMI).
After a year of deputation, we arrived in Albertville, France, to study the French language. We spent a year and a half in France and then took a ship down to the country of Senegal, where we worked until 1990. God blessed our years there. Two of our five children were born in Senegal. While there we learned the Wolof language and had the privilege of seeing Muslims come to know Christ.
At the request of BIMI, we moved to the country of Zaire in 1991 to reopen the work of missionary Anton Andersen. Just two weeks after our arrival in the village of Tshene, serious fighting broke out in the country. The next eighteen months were filled with many dangers, culminating in our family being airlifted from the country in 1993. During the time we spent in Zaire, we learned another language (Kikongo), saw many people saved, and worked with the many believers who were there.
When we arrived back in America, we were going to take a year's medical leave; however, God had other plans for us. Our home church, Grace Baptist Church of Landrum, South Carolina, called me to be their pastor. At the same time, Ambassador Baptist College was in need of an experienced missionary to add to their teaching faculty. For the next nine years I pastored a growing church, taught at Ambassador two days a week, and served on the Executive Board or as an officer of the South Carolina Association of Christian Schools.
In August 2001 Dr. Les Frazier asked if I would pray about becoming Far East Director with BIMI. After seven months of prayer and much heart searching, I accepted this position. I resigned as pastor of my church and as instructor at Ambassador in May 2002.
For ten years I served as Far East Director.
In the summer of 2011, I was asked to serve as Vice President and Executive Director at BIMI. I took that position in January 2012. My tasks are many. We spend time out on the mission fields assisting our missionaries. I do the “Moments for Missions” radio broadcasts. Most weeks I preach in a missions conference or on a college campus. There are also many projects on which I work for Dr. David Snyder at the World Missions Center. We count it a blessing and a privilege to serve a wonderful group of missionaries and the churches which send them out.

After a year of deputation, we arrived in Albertville, France, to study the French language. We spent a year and a half in France and then took a ship down to the country of Senegal, where we worked until 1990. God blessed our years there. Two of our five children were born in Senegal. Just two weeks after our arrival in the village of Tshene, serious fighting broke out in the country. The next eighteen months were filled with many dangers, culminating in our family being airlifted from the country in 1993. During the time we spent in Zaire, we learned another language (Kikongo), saw many people saved, and worked with the many believers who were there.

Our home church, Grace Baptist Church of Landrum, South Carolina, called me to be their pastor. At the same time, Ambassador Baptist College was in need of an experienced missionary to add to their teaching faculty. For the next nine years I pastored a growing church, taught at Ambassador two days a week, and served on the Executive Board or as an officer of the South Carolina Association of Christian Schools.
In August 2001 Dr. Les Frazier asked if I would pray about becoming Far East Director with BIMI. After seven months of prayer and much heart searching, I accepted this position. I resigned as pastor of my church and as instructor at Ambassador in May 2002.
For ten years I served as Far East Director.
In the summer of 2011, I was asked to serve as Vice President and Executive Director at BIMI. I took that position in January 2012. My tasks are many. We spend time out on the mission fields assisting our missionaries. I do the “Moments for Missions” radio broadcasts. Most weeks I preach in a missions conference or on a college campus. There are also many projects on which I work for Dr. David Snyder at the World Missions Center. We count it a blessing and a privilege to serve a wonderful group of missionaries and the churches which send them out.

In Acts 14:1-7, Paul and Barnabas encountered opposition even when they obeyed the Lord. The Lord blessed the preaching with a multitude that were saved. Yet, there were great obstacles that took place. With opposition and obstacles abounding, may we even more so, be found obeying that which God has given us to do! Acting upon this sacred calling, he entered Baylor University. While he was there, he paid for his room and board by milking a Jersey cow he had brought from his parents’ farm. He graduated from Baylor and attended Southwestern Seminary for nearly three years. During this time, he pastored two part-time churches. My wife and I have watched our two children growing up. There have been times in their lives, when they asked for a light to be left on at night. Not seeing what's around your or not knowing what's there can be a troubling time. We are definitely in troubling times and the inability to see what is coming next can shake one's foundation. Brother Maze Jackson was born in 1923 and died in 1996. Brother Jackson was an American Independent Baptist evangelist, best known as Brother Maze to fellow preachers and friends. Jackson hosted The Truck Driver's Special, a long-running radio series popular among truckers and their families, as well as "believers from border to border and coast to coast". He was also the editor of The Preacher's Goldmine, a sermon and Bible study magazine for ministers. A series of digests from this magazine was called Golden Nuggets.

Dr. Rice preached this message at Temple Baptist Church in Portsmouth Ohio in the 1960's and has made an impact on all who heard this message. I believe it will make an impact on us today as we listen to Dr. Rice preach "Watching Jesus Die".
Dr. John R. Rice was born in Cooke County, Texas on December 11,1895. He was mightily used of the Lord in many ways throughout his life. It has been noted many times of Dr. Rice being a tremendous soul winner.
Once on a car trip from Dallas to Chicago, Dr. Rice prayed, "Lord, help me to find someone I can win." He then missed a turn in Oklahoma and drove fifty miles out of the way. At a gas station where he stopped to ask directions, he led the attendant to Christ. Still upset about the unplanned detour, his daughters giggled at him, reminding him of his earlier prayer.
At 81, with a hearing aid, suffering from arthritis, and aware that his memory was "not quick as it was years ago," Dr. Rice still managed to be at the office most mornings at 6:30. In 1978, he had a heart attack, then a second, more serious one in April 1980. He died of a stroke on December 29. The staff counted 22,923 letters that had come to Rice between the beginning of his writing ministry and his death, each reporting that the writer had found Christ through Rice's books or booklets or through a sermon published in The Sword of the Lord.

Before the ascension of Jesus to heaven in Acts 1, the Lord's last words to the disciples were of encouragement, exhortation and expectation! These words were spoken to the disciples but still apply to us today! May the Lord find us faithful in accomplishing those "Famous Last Words" in Acts 1:8.

Of James W. Knox was born February 26, 1958 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He grew up in New Smyrna Beach, Florida where he graduated high school in 1976. Over the next three years he earned degrees in English and journalism from the state university system of Florida, graduating with honors in 1978 and 1979.
He received the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior on December 17, 1976 and began to preach the word of God in November of the following year.

We learn from Luke 5, that there were those that lived with leprosy. Leprosy alters every facet of one's life. Yet there is one that can alter ever facet of leprosy. Many times our problems are not because of the White House, the Church House, but actually are found because of the altar being broken down in one's own house. The altar of God is not to be abandoned, but strengthened! May we be like Elijah "and he repaired the altar of the Lord that was broken down". Who wants to be effective for the Lord? Who wants to do and be like the apostles of the early church? Many times we make the mistake of trying to live the Christian life without Christ. In this passage today, those early New Testament saints did not make that mistake. We find in our passage today the "how and why" of those faithful saints of God, that were able to do great things for God. Ultimately, the "how and why" will help us focus on the 'Who" it is we are to be reflecting throughout our lives. May it be said that our living for the Lord is full in power and focused in purpose.
