Women have been conditioned by society to be, act, and think a certain way. Here at GIRLS IRL, we encourage women to challenge societal norms and embrace their femininity so they can live a fearless and filter-free life. Join your host, Mariah Clayton, every Monday as she educates, inspires, and motivates you through light hearted conversations each week.
A few years ago, I struggled with feeling like my life wasn't going the way I thought it was supposed to. I felt behind, directionless, and honestly, just STUCK.
Looking back, I realized I wasn't necessarily stuck because of my circumstances. I was stuck because I was holding onto things I needed to release.
In this episode of Girls in Real Life, I'm getting honest about the things I had to let go of in order to grow. Sometimes we think changing our lives means adding more—coming up with another goal, implementing a new habit, or creating a different plan. But sometimes, the real breakthrough comes when you finally stop chaining yourself to a version of you that no longer wants to exist.
If you're feeling stuck, behind, or unsure of what's next, this episode is your reminder that letting go isn't giving up. Sometimes it's the very thing that makes room for what's next.

What if the things that change your life aren’t always the things you buy?
In today's episode, I’m sharing the investments that have truly shaped the woman I’m becoming. Not just the things that have changed my closet or appearance, but the things that have changed my heart, my mindset, and the way I show up in the world.
From investing in my health, my business, my marriage, and my future to prioritizing time with God, building discipline, pursuing my dreams, and protecting my peace — these are the things I believe are worth your money, your time, and your energy.
Because the things you consistently invest in are the things that grow.

Have you ever wondered if someone is genuinely pursuing you... or if they're just love bombing you?
In this episode, I'm sharing the difference between manipulation, genuine love, and how to recognize the signs of each.
I'll also be sharing my own story of how I met my husband, why so many people thought we were moving too fast, and how I discerned our relationship was real and not just rushed.
Whether you're dating, healing from a past relationship, or simply trying to better understand what healthy love looks like, my hope is that this conversation gives you practical wisdom and reminds you that real love brings peace, not confusion.

If you consider yourself to be an overthinker... this episode is for you.
We're talking about irrational fears. And not ones like being afraid of clowns or flying, but the fears that don't seem irrational at all: the fear of making the wrong decision, being misunderstood, failing publicly, regretting your choices, or stepping into something unknown. The kind of fear that disguises itself as wisdom, discernment, and responsibility while quietly keeping us stuck.
In this episode, we're unpacking the relationship between anxiety, overthinking, and the need for certainty. We'll explore why worst-case scenarios feel so convincing, how fear can shrink our lives without us realizing it, and what it looks like to move forward even when you don't have all the answers.
The real goal isn't to become fearless. It's learning how to stop letting fear make every decision for you.
If you've been waiting to feel completely sure before taking the next step, consider this your reminder: you don't need certainty to start living the life that's in front of you.

We've been treating peace like something we have to earn. Like once the finances stabilize, once the relationship feels easier, once the career finally clicks — then we can relax. Then we can breathe. Then we get to feel okay.
But what if peace was never tied to your circumstances at all?
In this episode I'm breaking down one of the most quoted verses in the Bible — Romans 8:28 — and why I think most of us have been reading it wrong. "All things working together" isn't God promising to rearrange your life. It's an invitation to make a decision before anything changes. A decision to trust, to surrender, and to choose peace as an act of faith.
If you've been waiting for your life to get better before you let yourself feel peace, this episode is going to challenge that. Because peace isn't the reward for things working out. It's the decision you make before they do.

We are halfway through the year, and I think a lot of us are sitting with plans that aren't working, goals that no longer feel like ours, or ideas we've outgrown but can't bring ourselves to release.
So instead of a "get back on track" pep talk, we're having a more honest conversation than that.
In this episode, we're talking about the art of the pivot: what it actually means to change direction, why it's so hard to let go even when you know you should, and how to stop chaining yourself to old plans just because you already started them.
I'm getting personal about two pivots that changed my life — one I chose, and one that was chosen for me. And I'm breaking down the psychology behind why walking away feels like failure even when it's clearly the right move.
Because you are not obligated to finish everything you begin. You are not the same woman you were when you made the plan. And changing your mind isn't inconsistency, t's discernment.
If you've ever felt stuck between who you were and who you're becoming, this one is for you.

Most of us don't notice when we're slipping spiritually. That's kind of the whole problem.
For years, I navigated my faith alone. Which meant my blind spots stayed blind. No one was close enough to see what I couldn't see in myself. I'd go months without realizing anything had shifted. And then I got married, and all of that changed.
This episode is about the adjustment that comes with having someone who notices before you do. Someone who will voice concern about where you are spiritually before you've even registered that something is off. It's a beautiful thing. It's also a humbling one — and I think it's a conversation we don't have nearly enough.
We're getting into what real spiritual accountability looks like in a relationship, why being truly known requires more vulnerability than most people realize, and the difference between a partner who holds you accountable and one who just makes you feel small.

We all know what it feels like to fall off. Life gets busy, the good habits go first, and before you know it the routines you so carefully built up are now all gone. But here's the part nobody talks about: what happens when life slows back down and you still can't make yourself do it?
In this episode, I'm getting real about being in a slump. Not as someone who's overcome it, but someone who's still working through it. We're talking about why motivation isn't actually the problem, the psychology behind why we keep saying "I'll start tomorrow," and what it really takes to get back to the version of yourself you know you're capable of being.
If you've ever known exactly what you need to do and still couldn't make yourself do it... this one's for you.
It's my birthday week, and I'm turning the big 3-0! I've been doing a lot of reflecting on the woman I was in my 20s, and if I'm being honest, there are a lot of things I'm not proud of.
In this episode, I'm opening up about some of the mistakes and decisions I made throughout my 20s; the things I'm not proud of, but that ultimately shaped who I am today.
This isn't about shame. It's about growth.
Because the truth is, sometimes you have to live through the wrong things to learn what's right. And every version of me, even the messy ones, played a role in getting me here. I hope this episode brings you a sense of peace that you don't have to have it all figured out yet. And you also don't have to be a victim to your mistakes.

I've officially been married for one year! Which means, of course I have to share the knowledge of everything I learned in my first year of marriage with the girls. In this episode, I’m sharing the things no one really prepares you for. From communication and conflict, to softness, intimacy, and the daily choice to love someone even in the most unfiltered, real-life moments.
Marriage has a way of revealing you. Your habits, your patterns, your triggers, and teaching you how to show up differently. It’s not about perfection, it’s about growth, intention, and learning how to build something together.
If you’re married, engaged, or even just thinking about what a healthy relationship looks like, this conversation will give you an honest look into what marriage has taught me so far.

In this episode, we're talking about identity shifts and the natural evolution that happens as women grow through different seasons of life. Each chapter asks something different of us. The woman you were when life looked one way might not be the woman you need to be when your responsibilities, priorities, and purpose begin to change.
Growth often requires letting go of old identities, old mindsets, and even old expectations about who we thought we would be. Not because that version of you was wrong, but because she served her purpose for that time. This conversation is about giving yourself permission to evolve and fully step into who you're meant to be now. Because becoming the woman you're called to be will always require leaving another version of yourself behind.

Some days motivation is there, but most days, it isn't. In this episode, I talk candidly about my current feelings surrounding the podcast, why I don't feel motivated, and my lack of time.
But I also reflect on the importance of showing up anyway. Because the truth is, the life we hope to have in the future is built by the choices we make in the present. Our future selves can only achieve what our present selves are willing to do today.
This episode is an honest conversation about discipline, consistency, and the tension between wanting something and actually putting in the work for it — even when you don’t feel like it.

Three years ago I became a mom! And while it was the most magical day of my life, somewhere in the middle of sleepless nights, identity shifts, and quiet grief for the life I used to have... I felt like I lost myself.
The early years of motherhood can feel like a competition. Competition with your freedom. Your body. Your ambition. Your spontaneity. You love your child deeply, but still find yourself missing who you were before them and wondering if she's gone for good.
In this episode, I talk about what it feels like to finally come out of the postpartum fog and realize that you don't actually want your old life back. You simply yearn to feel more grounded, anchored, and aligned with this new version of yourself. If you've been feeling like you're at war with this season, or quietly missing the "you' that existed before, then this conversation is for you. You don't have to compete with motherhood, you can grow into it. ❤️

We’ve all asked the question, "How will I know?"
How will I know he’s the one?
How will I know I’m not settling?
How will I know I won’t regret this?
We’ve been conditioned to believe love comes with clarity where everything feels undeniable and certain. But what if that moment never comes?
In this episode, I’m unpacking the myth of “when you know, you know.” I share how love, in my experience, was never instant or overwhelming. We also explore the concept of love being a choice instead of a feeling, what ACTUALLY matters when choosing a partner, and how faith plays a role in our relationships.

Culture tells women that choosing home, family, and softness means giving something up. That to be domesticated is to be oppressed, outdated, or diminished. But what if that narrative is wrong? What if the life the world calls “small” is actually sacred?
In this episode, I’m reframing domestication through a spiritual lens. Not as submission without agency, but as intentional stewardship. We talk about the fear of losing identity, the shift from independence to interdependence in marriage, and why caring for a home and family is not passive work, but powerful, purpose-filled responsibility. I share how becoming a wife and mother changed my view of success, ambition, and fulfillment, and why the quiet work that no one applauds is often the work God honors most.
If you’ve ever felt tension around choosing family, homemaking, or a slower, softer life, this conversation is for you. Domestication is not about shrinking. It’s about building. And there is nothing more sacred than that.
Jesus said the world would recognize His followers not by their opinions, politics, or ability to be right, but by their love. Yet today, Christians are more divided than ever. We argue, we condemn, we choose sides, and somewhere along the way, compassion has taken a back seat. In this episode, we’re having an honest conversation about what it means to love others as Jesus commanded, even when it’s uncomfortable, even when culture tells us to harden our hearts. We talk about empathy, humility, and servitude in a time of political tension, fear, and separation, and why distancing ourselves from the pain of others dehumanizes their experience. Through Scripture and reflection, this episode challenges us to examine whether we’re more concerned with being right or being Christ-like. Because love isn’t optional for a disciple, it’s the evidence.

In this episode, we’re talking about the gap between who you are right now and who you desire to be, and how habits, routines, and daily obedience quietly close that gap. Using Proverbs 31 as a framework, we break down what it actually means to become a woman who is trustworthy, wise, and rooted in her faith without performance or pressure.
This conversation isn’t about copying a lifestyle or checking boxes. It’s about developing character. We’re working backwards from the woman you’re praying to become and building the routines that naturally produce her so your habits reflect your identity.
If you’ve been praying for a different life but feel unsure how to prepare for it, this episode is an invitation to live differently, move intentionally, and become the woman God can trust with the things you’re asking for.

Wanting change isn’t the same as choosing it...
Last week, we talked about aligning our goals with God—but alignment alone doesn’t change your life. Your choices do. The next step is learning how to move differently in our everyday lives.
In this episode, we’re talking about why so many of us stay stuck in the same cycles—even when we want better—and how real change begins with repentance, discipline, and daily decisions.
We’ll explore how repeated choices create repeated outcomes, why conviction without action keeps us stuck, and how changing your environment can either support or sabotage the life you’re praying for. This conversation is about turning intention into action and allowing your behavior to reflect what you say you want.
If you’ve been praying for change but struggling to see it show up in your life, this episode is an invitation to stop waiting until you feel ready—and start choosing differently today.

As the year comes to a close, many of us are carrying things we were never meant to take into the next season. Expectations. Guilt. Responsibilities that drain us. Relationships that no longer align. In this episode, we talk about what it really means to release without guilt and trust God with what we’re letting go of.
We explore how letting go is not failure or weakness, but an act of faith and obedience, and how making space is often the first step toward peace, rest, and what God wants to do next.
If you’re feeling tired, overwhelmed, or stretched thin heading into the new year, this episode is an invitation to loosen your grip and trust that everything will still be okay.

So many of us live in the space of almost — almost healed, almost disciplined, almost obedient to what God asked us to do. But what we don’t realize is that “almost” still costs us something. In this episode, we’re talking about the hidden price of settling for halfway — the opportunities we miss, the growth we delay, and the peace we forfeit when we don’t fully commit to what we’ve been called to. Because the truth is, partial obedience is still disobedience, and almost becoming who God created you to be is still missing the mark.
This episode will challenge you to stop living in the in-between — to stop standing at the edge of your breakthrough — and finally step into the fullness of who you are meant to be.

In this very special anniversary episode, I’m taking you behind the mic to share the full story: how Girls in Real Life began, the ways we’ve grown together, and the lessons God has taught me along the way.
Thank you for being part of this story. The best is still ahead. 💗

Happy Monday girlies! In this week’s episode, we’re dismantling the pressure to “figure it all out” and rethinking what purpose really means in a world obsessed with hustle, titles, and perfectly packaged callings. I share my personal journey with purpose, including the fear I carried for years about missing God’s calling on my life — and the peace I found in realizing that purpose isn’t one thing, it’s everything.
We’ll explore why so many of us feel stuck, lost, or confused when it comes to our calling, and how culture has twisted the meaning of purpose into a goal we chase instead of a life we embody. Using reflections from the book of Ecclesiastes, real-life stories, and spiritual truths, this episode is your invitation to stop striving and start surrendering.
✨ Whether you're feeling behind, unsure of your next step, or overwhelmed by “not knowing,” this one’s for you.

Happy Monday girlies! In this episode, we’re exploring how the rise of “main character energy” in culture can lead us to idolize ourselves more than we realize. From the subtle ways we prioritize our own desires to the ways we remove ourselves from other people’s stories, this conversation is a reminder to re-center your life on Christ.
We’ll talk about Jesus’ example of self-denial, the difference between self-love and self-worship, and what it really looks like to die to self. Because true freedom doesn’t come from being the star. It comes from surrender.

Happy Memorial Day Monday! I wish today's episode was cute and fun, but it's definitely not lol. This episode is one of the most vulnerable I’ve ever recorded because it's the story of my life.
After leaving a long-term relationship, I found myself ultimately getting pregnant just 2 months into meeting my now husband. Though that chapter of my life now includes love, marriage, and a beautiful baby boy, it also brought deep guilt, shame, and questions I wasn't prepared to face.
In today's episode, I'm sharing how I wrestled with the weight of sexual sin, how shame tried to steal my joy, and what it's looked like to truly repent and allow God to restore me. I reflect on the dangers of taking your life into your own hands and the struggle to forgive yourself while also believing that God forgives you too.
All in all, I want this episode to be a reminder that you are not defined by your past. There is redemption on the other side of repentance. And God still writes beautiful stories from broken pieces. I pray this episode reminds you that grace still reaches for you - even in your mistakes.

Happy Monday girlies! This episode is just as much for me as it is for you lol.
The problem isn’t that you can’t stay on track. The problem is that you keep choosing habits that work against you. A lot of times, self-sabotage looks like giving up completely just because you slipped up once. You missed a workout, so you stop going altogether. You had one unproductive day, so you throw the whole week away. You made one bad decision, so you convince yourself you might as well keep making them. But true consistency isn’t about being perfect—it’s about getting back on track no matter how many times you fall off.
In this episode, we’re talking about self-sabotage, the all-or-nothing mindset, and why one bad day doesn’t mean you should quit. If you’re tired of making choices that keep you stuck, it’s time to start being consistent in the things that actually move you forward.

Today's episode is about downplaying our calling. How many times have you dismissed your assignment from God because you thought it wasn’t a big deal? How often have you let doubt, pride, or fear convince you that what God asked you to do doesn’t matter? Too often, we minimize our calling, forgetting that God placed this assignment on our lives for a reason. The things he is asking us to do are important and should be treated as such. Listen as we discuss the importance of showing up even when we don’t feel like it, how our obedience impacts others, and five practical steps to push past doubt and fully embrace what God has called us to do.

Forming your own identity in a culture where trends and influencing are at an all time high can be a tall task. It's easy to find ourselves trying to fit into different aesthetics and do what's popular even if it might not be who we genuinely are. So today's episode is all about finding your individuality and embracing your authentic self.
Our special guest today is Taryn Smith. Some of you may know her as 'Heaven's Receptionist' on TikTok, or maybe you saw her compete for Miss America where she placed 1st runner up. She is a public figure with a bubbly personality who takes pride in being unapologetically herself wherever she goes. Her presence easily lights up any space she is in, so I hope she brings a little sunshine to her day as she has to mine.

It's been one year since the passing of Cheslie Kryst, but for me it still feels like yesterday. On the anniversary of her passing, I wanted to share some of my early on and favorite memories I had with her. She was a beautiful person on the inside and out who was struggling mentally and didn't want anyone to know. That's why today's conversation is so important. I got the chance to talk with 3-time suicide survivor Francesca Reicherter who openly shared her story with me. We discuss early warning signs, preventative/supportive measures, and how to normalize these difficult conversations in our everyday lives.

We all know that vaginas are intricate and complicated to understand sometimes, and growing up, we weren't really taught a lot about what goes on down there. Most of us just know the basics: an egg is released once a month, we get all moody, then bleed for multiple days in a row. But there's actually a lot more to it than that.
To better help us understand our cycle and educate us on all that it entails, I brought on fertility awareness coach Natalie Boruk. She is a content creator who uses her platform to educate women on how to decipher the signs that your body gives you monthly. We discuss ovulation, cycle phases, discharge, birth control, and so much more!!

We all know if it's one thing men have, its the audacity! I have had some pretty crazy encounters with the opposite sex throughout my lifetime and thought it would be fun to share my personal experiences while also reading stories about others. Based on what I've read this week... I'm sticking with my theory that the male species cannot be redeemed :)

Happy Monday! Today we are talking about disability awareness. How often are we educated on the needs and struggles of people who have disabilities? Most times we aren't even aware of the issues and just go about our normal, regular lives. However, if we continue to stay ignorant then we won't be able to create real change in our society. That is why I was so glad to have Kayla Toure on the show who is an advocate for disability awareness!
Kayla is a 17-year-old disability awareness advocate who got her start when her older sister was getting bullied for being hearing impaired and legally blind in one of her eyes. Because of this, she has made it her mission to advocate for those with disabilities and also educate the youth on what a disability is through her organization Kindness with Kayla. As if that doesn't keep this young teen busy, she is also preparing to compete in the upcoming Miss New York Teen USA competition to take her platform to a larger scale.

It's normal to have those thoughts, but we have to learn how to push through to achieve the things that we KNOW we're capable of.
My guest today is Rhonda Mincey! She is a world traveler, international speaker, transformation coach, poet, philanthropist, and author. Purpose is something we spend most of our time and life searching for. What do I want to do with my life? What will people remember me for? What difference will I make? What's the point of my life? I'm sure you've asked yourself these questions or at least variations of it at one point or another. Finding our purpose is something that consumes our minds on a daily basis, and while it is good to have a goal and an idea of who or what you want to be, it can also become an unhealthy obsession.
On this episode, I hope to reframe your mindset on what purpose is and to help you get the answer to these three questions: What is purpose? Why do so many people struggle with finding purpose? And how do you know when you're in purpose? And hopefully by the end of the episode, you will have a new perspective on what it means to find your purpose.

We all know hot girl summer is approaching us, and everyone is trying to show out for the occasion! Weight loss is at the forefront of society right now and while we're all for people living a healthy lifestyle, we can't help but see how focusing on our physical body can negatively affect our lives. I sat down with Camille Martin, who is a registered dietitian, to discuss how obsession with weight loss can create a strong hold on our mental health.
No stranger to the negative effects of weight loss and dieting, Camille spent 25 of her years as a chronic dieter and someone who struggled with eating disorders. Realizing she didn't want her inner mean girl to control her anymore, she quit dieting and began changing her habits little by little. She is now a public health writer who dedicates her time to helping women quit dieting, set bigger and better goals, and reclaim their excitement for life!

Happy Monday babes! We are back to our regularly scheduled programming with a share your story episode. It's been a while since we've done one of these, so I was super excited to talk to Carice and learn more about her!
Carice was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia. Growing up, she thought that she would enter the medical field but after struggling with math and science, she quickly decided to change her career ambitions towards a field in which she knew she would not only enjoy, but excel in. In 2017, Carice graduated from North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina with a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications with a concentration in Public Relations.
After graduation, Carice moved back to Richmond and attended Virginia Commonwealth University where she recently obtained her master’s degree in Strategic Public Relations. Education is something that Carice highly values, and she will continue to enhance her knowledge of both the evolving Hospitality and PR industries through real life and work experiences along with continuing her education through research and developing strategies through a Ph.D. program. Ultimately, Carice’s goal is to work in the Communications department of a successful hospitality brand. Her passions outside of the world of Communications include giving back to the community, financial literacy, event planning, restaurants & tourism, and pageantry.
I hope you all enjoy listening to Carice as much as I enjoyed talking with her! You can give her a follow on Instagram @caricebriashelle, and while you're there, give us a follow too @_girlsirl.

Welcome back to another week girlies :) Today on the podcast, we are getting real about life coaching. Some of you may be scratching your head and asking yourself, "What exactly is life coaching and why would it be something I need?" That is exactly why I brought my friend Samantha Neyland, who was Miss Hawaii USA 2020 and also an amazing life coach, on the show to break it down for us!
Listen as she defines life coaching, explains the difference between a life coach and a counselor, and how it can be beneficial for your life.

Have a great week babe!
We all, at one point or another, have gone on a diet or have thought about going on a diet. In this episode, I speak with Alyssa Fernandes, who is Miss New Hampshire USA 2020 and a registered dietitian, about the effects of dieting on our mental health.
Why is it that women have such an unhealthy relationship with food? Should we be persuaded by pop culture as it pertains to eating/dieting habits? Are carbs really the enemy of all food groups? Listen as we dive into all of these questions and more!
If you have any additional questions for Alyssa, be sure to follow her on Instagram at @_alyssafernandes_. And while you're there, give us a follow too @_girlsirl.
Have a great week!
This week on the podcast we are #keepingitreal! Alice Magoto, a former Ohio America and USA titleholder, initially started this movement by not editing her headshots for the national pageants. From there, she turned it into a holistic concept of just loving yourself as you are (does that sound familiar?). She intentionally uses her social media as a way to refresh her feed with some reality because she understands how easy it is to get caught up in everyone's highlight reel. Listen as we discuss photoshop, plastic surgery, and how competing in pageants pushed her to become more self-aware.
Alice truly is a breath of fresh air on social media, so you guys can follow her instagram account @alicemagoto. And while you're there, you can give us a follow too @_girlsirl!
Remember, if you have a story you would like to share send us an email to mystory@girlsirl.org for your chance to be featured on the podcast.
Have a killer week babe!
Welcome to a new year girls!! Coming into 2021, we are all concerned with NEW everything. New opportunities, new plans, new goals. We constantly consume ourselves with looking for the next thing thanks to pressures of society and our own expectations for our lives. It's easy to become overwhelmed and over-exert ourselves trying to achieve accomplishment after accomplishment.
New beginnings are exciting and adventurous, but they can also be scary and uncertain. No matter where you are in your new chapter, you can take something meaningful away from this episode. I truly spoke from the heart, and I hope you all enjoy it!
Also, I have to apologize for the audio on this episode. I totally forgot to tell my software the mic I was using, so this is just raw audio from my MacBook Air (upside down emoji haha). Audio is trash, but the content is golden so I hope it isn't too unbearable. I will not make that mistake again don't worry!!
But happy new year, and cheers to a new season of empowering women everywhere! Remember to follow us on Instagram @_girlsirl, and if you have a story to share be sure to send us an email at mystory@girlsirl.or
This week on the G-IRL Podcast we are talking about insecurities. I have them; you have them; even that person who you think is absolutely perfect has them! Unfortunately, it's human nature. In this episode, we are dissecting the causes of insecurities, different types, and how we can overcome those irrational thoughts and take our power back.
I hope you guys enjoy this episode! Remember, if you have a story you want to share, shoot me an email at mystory@girlsirl.org. I would love to hear from you! Also, be sure to follow us on social media at @_girlsirl. Have an amazing Monday, and I will talk to you guys next week :)
Hiiii guys :) I missed y'all so much last week! For those who don't know, I was in Memphis competing for Miss USA, so I didn't have much time to upload. But I am back and ready to keep building and growing with y'all! I did not win Miss USA which is why I decided to do this episode. I wanted to talk about failure because we hear so many success stories that when we fail, we think something is wrong or we're not good enough. So this is my story of failure. It's real. It's raw. And it's transparent. Don't be afraid to #FailOutLoud. We have to stop being so afraid of sharing our failures because you never know the impact it could have on someone else's life. So I genuinely hope my story resonates with someone out there and that you would continue to keep pushing forward in life no matter what road blocks get in your way. You are full of purpose, and the world deserves to see it.
Happy Monday G-IRLs :) Today, we are getting real about women who are, for lack of better words, doing the damn thing and making herstory! In this episode, I sat down and spoke with MJ Acosta-Ruiz, who is the FIRST woman of color to host any show on the NFL Network hand claps. She is trailblazing a path for other young women to follow suit, and we love to see it! Please listen as this former Miami Dolphins Dancer and pageant competitor shares her journey of hard work and resiliency that got her to this amazing accomplishment.
You can follow MJ on Instagram at @mjacostatv, and while you're there be sure to give us a follow too @_girlsirl.

A proud first generation Haitain-American, this emerging motivational speaker is currently a financial analyst in Global Finance and Business Management at JP Morgan Chase & Co. She has launched her own website, LucyMBrice.com, that has helped her secure numerous speaking engagements in which she educates young leaders on finance and self-development. Hey girlie, and welcome back to another week of my podcast :) Today's share your story segment is all about Bria Virgil. Bria works at a non-profit organization called the Girls Empowerment Network (GEN) who ignites the power in girls by teaching them skills to thrive and believe in their ability to be unstoppable! And y'all know we are all about women empowerment over here, so I was so happy to learn about the work that this amazing organization does for their community of women. Listen as we discuss her big move to Houston, finding a home at GEN, and competing in pageants! Be sure to follow Bria and GEN on Instagram @briavirgil and @girlsempowermentnetwork respectively.
Remember, if you have a story you would like to share shoot us an email at mystory@girlsirl.org.
I hope you all enjoy the episode, and I'll meet you guys back here next week :)
It's about that time again! Welcome back to another week of the G-IRL Podcast :) You guys get little ol' me again today, and she's a short one! I watched the new remake of the Mulan movie and got inspired to do an episode about women in society. I started recording this episode weeks ago and forgot about it, but when I rediscovered it I knew I needed to finish this bad boy. So that is the reason there is a disconnect in the audio, but the message is still there! And since yesterday was International Day of the Girl, I don't think this could have come at a better time.
Let me know your thoughts on what I said! Do you agree? Disagree? Have anything to add? Comment under our new IG post to keep the conversation going at @_girlsirl. As always thank y'all so much for listening, and I'll talk to you next week :)
Welcome back to another episode! This week we are getting real about following your dreams. You guys know our vision is to see every woman living a fearless and filter-free life so dream chasing is essential! Our special guest this week is Melody Byrd. Mel is a former Southern University Dancing Doll from Illinois who currently lives in L.A. She is signed to Q Model Management and is an aspiring singer and professional dancer. If this episode doesn't inspire you to go out and chase your goals, I don't know what will! You can subscribe to Melody on Youtube at MelodyAlmeTV and follow her on instagram @__melodyalme. While you're there, give us a follow too @_girlsirl. Now go smash your goals for the week!!!!
Happy Monday G-IRLS :) Fun fact: 13 is actually my favorite number, so I'm very excited that this is my 13th episode of the podcast!! We have a very brave woman sharing her story today, and I can't wait for y'all to learn more about her.
Lakeasha is a model, actor, entrepreneur, and the founder of VIVALUX7 which is an everyday wear cosmetic line. She has overcome many trials in her life, including the brutal murder of her boyfriend at the young age of 17, who was also the father of her 7 month old child. Being a teen mom and dealing with this unexpected tragedy left her mentally and emotionally paralyzed. She has spent many years trying to figure out how to turn her numbness and pain into something positive. Her love and passion for the beauty industry lead her to attend Aveda Institute of New Orleans and graduate in Esthiology Science in 2016. Since then, she has created her own cosmetic line which represents strength and beauty. Her brand is to show the world the power of never giving up no matter what life tries to throw at you.
I hope you guys are as encouraged after listening to her story as I was. Be sure to follow her on instagram at @iamlakeashaj and her cosmetic line @vivalux7llc. While you're there, give us a follow too @_girlsirl. Talk to you guys next week <3
Happy Monday G-IRLs :) On today's episode, we are getting real about cultural differences. Did you know that the United States has more immigrants than any other country in the world? I thought it was only right to highlight issues and insecurities that immigrant women go through in this country so we can be more aware.
My sweet friend and USA pageant sister, Andreia Gibau, is joining me on this episode to talk about her immigration experience. Her family immigrated from Cape Verde to the U.S. when she was 7 years old. Andreia is a speaker, writer, and philanthropist who serves as an advocate for inner city and underprivileged children. Please listen as Andreia shares her journey of acclimating to a different environment while trying to find her place in this new world. You can follow Andreia on Instagram @andreiagibau, and give us a follow while you're there too @_girlsirl.
Hope you enjoy the episode <3
Hey my girlies :) Welcome back to another episode of the G-IRL Podcast! Y'all know the S.Y.S segment is my absolute FAVORITE because I get to listen and learn about how amazing you all are! My guest for today is Jasmine Smith, and I really think you guys are going to be blown away by her story.
Jasmine is currently a student pilot who is a senior at Tuskegee University (yes, home of the Tuskegee Airmen!). Her goals are to be an Air Force Fighter pilot as well as an astronaut. Her journey has been anything but easy, yet she has stayed steadfast in pursuing her dreams. Jasmine wanted to share her story because she feels like a prime example of being patient and letting God do His thing. Her main message is to get others to understand that your time is your time, and you won’t be late for it. Please listen as she shares her story of failures, overcoming obstacles, and keeping hope alive.
You can follow her on Instagram @the.aviatrix to keep up with her journey! And while you're there, give us a follow too @_girlsirl. Remember, if you have a story you would like to share, send an email to mystory@girlsirl.org to be featured on our podcast!
This week on the G-IRL podcast we are getting real about scars. Let's be honest... we all have them! Whether we were born with them or acquired them through the years, they are a part of us. I really wanted to highlight this subject because society pushes the agenda that women are supposed to be perfect, unmarked creatures which is totally not the case. There are so many companies who profit off of "fading creams" and remedies that are supposed to lighten, hide, or remove scars, and I would love to be a part in changing the narrative to where we learn to embrace our scars and tell the stories that come along with them.
To help me discuss this topic, I have my good friend Abby Cramond join me! Abby is a sophomore at LSU studying textiles, apparel, and merchandising. After tearing her ACL twice and undergoing surgery that left her with permanent scars on her leg, she was inspired to create her platform My Battle Scar whose purpose is to bring self-love back into the women and men who are insecure about any marks on their bodies and prove that imperfections tell a story! In January of 2020, she launched her online jewelry boutique Joli Lione in order to share her love for fashion and to help spread her message of self-confidence. Abby was the 1st runner up at Miss Louisiana Teen USA and currently holds the title of Miss Louisiana for America. Be sure to follow Abby on her personal account at @abby.cramond and shop with her at @jolilione. While you're there, give us a follow too @_girls :)
Hiiiii my girls :) Welcome to another week of G-IRL happy emoji. I am back with another Share Your Story segment! I absolutely love learning about you guys and hearing your amazing stories. There are some real nuggets of wisdom in here, so please listen as she offers up advice and tips for anyone wishing to start a new venture. Be sure to follow her jewelry boutique and shop with her on Instagram @myahsymone, and give us a follow while you're there @_girlsirl. Enjoy the episode, and I will talk to you gals next week <3

I can't wait to continue learning and hearing about your amazing journeys <3
This week on Share Your Story, we have Paris Webb. Paris a current dental student in Dallas, and a former D1 basketball player. Her mission is to encourage more girls and young women to pursue their dreams, but especially those looking to enter dentistry. This career field is male dominated, so many of us do not feel represented because it is rare to see people who look like us. Paris has faced much adversity on her journey, but is now using her experiences to encourage and inspire others to pursue dentistry and other STEM related fields. You can follow Paris on instagram @_paris.webb, and while you're there, give us a follow too @_girlsirl.
Hey #GirlGang! Welcome back to another episodeeeee :) I'm sure I've spoiled you guys these past few weeks with all of the amazing guests that have been on the show, but this week I am riding solo! With school starting back up again and so many people graduating into adult life, I wanted to talk about all things post-grad depression and share my own personal story and experience. I believe that this is a topic that should be discussed more, and we should not be ashamed for the sadness and hopelessness we feel after graduation. As always, I am bearing my soul to you guys in hopes that my story of hardship will encourage you on your own life journey. We are all out here trying to navigate this thing called life, so I hope you are able to take something away from this episode! Be sure to follow us on instagram @_girlsirl for more encouragement and inspiration. Happy Monday <3
