In this episode I chat about how business can be a source of our healing and how we can be in the marketplace without losing ourselves. I share how when a problem arises, most of us come from a context of fear, worry and doubt, which is natural and also the cue that there is inner work to be done. When a problem arises and we feel fear, worry and doubt its usually because 1 or more of the 5 wants is being threatened. You’ll have to listen to learn the 5 most common human wants.

When we become aware of the threat, from there we can work on accepting the parts of us that are scared and support that part to integrate and we become more whole. Our personal work is to find the parts of us that got fragmented, integrate them and move towards being our true selves. I believe business provides many opportunities to show us our shadow sides, to show us our triggers and to also show us our true passions that may need unfolding.

This podcast is an introduction to my passion project. Helping people connect back to their bodies so that can show up and operate their business from a place of openness, joy, passion, alignment and return to wholeness.

In this solo podcast I chat about if it’s time for a new paradigm to emerge. One in which our IQ thinking mind isn’t the only dominate force, but instead a paradigm that includes Body Intelligence BQ and Emotional Intelligence EQ. Our IQ has brought us far in our evolution as a society but unfortunately not all problems can be solved through thinking. Not all creativity and innovation comes from the thinking mind alone. Our emotions and our body have so much intelligence that when they get a seat at the table the dynamics change. We move from our limited thinking to a deeper wisdom.

In this podcast I also delve into health, how our symptoms in our body are not solely physical manifestations but emotional manifestations too. Our body, our emotions and our thought are all electrical chemical signals and when we perceive or come into potential threat, all of these systems will come online to protect us. What happens when our body heals but we still have pain? What is happening when the bladder tests come back negative but I still have symptoms? Can there be things in my thinking and emotional intelligence that needs attention and is using the body as a way to get our attention?

I think it’s time to expand what we value and bring in the old but new ways of thinking about health, wellness and dis-ease.

In this part 2 episode I chat with friend and colleague Robyn Synnott about what it means to be a trauma informed physiotherapist. We delve into how we got into the Poly-Vagal Theory and how that has changed the way we practice and educate clients. We talk about how being trauma informed and using the Poly-Vagal theory is in our scope of practice and why we as physiotherapist may be resistant to these types of approaches.

We discuss how we have implemented the Poly-Vagal theory into our practices and incorporated with other aspects of trauma informed care.

We chat about how we are using the DIMs and SIMs exercise in practice in light of the Poly-Vagal theory. We share important concepts, ideas we have learned from mentors over the years both within our practice with clients but also as part of our self-care approach. We get into top down versus bottom up approaches to care, central sensitization and the biopsychosocial approach to physiotherapy.

We have many mentors we would like to thank for their contribution to our growth as therapists and I’ve also included which episode to listen to of The Living A Better Life Podcast to hear from the mentors themselves.

In this solo episode I talk about the most important question we need to ask ourselves. Where Am I? I talk about the difference between content and context, narrative vs experience and how when we pause to get present to what is happening within us, we begin to unlock information that was not available to us before. This podcast shares some insight into Body Intelligence coaching and how I would apply it to a professional/business problem, but in reality we can apply this approach to health, relationships or wealth of course.

In my physiotherapy practice I blend somatic experiencing with body intelligence practices to help my clients become more present to their experience of the problem, to get more present to their physiology and what is happening inside their body. How their body feels and responds to interventions. My clients become active participants, learning about their body, its responses and how to best support themselves for healing.

About Kate:
