Jacob Schmidt is remembering his Uncle and carrying on his spirit in the form of a great weekend event that raises funds for cancer research.
Jacob lost his Uncle due to brain cancer a couple years ago, and with the help of friends and family has come together to raise money for cancer research by hosting a weekend softball tournament every August. Over the past couple of years Jacob has used the softball tournament to raise over $25,000 for cancer research. Every penny has been donated to local area hospitals and cancer research centers.

Steven Cohen is making it easy to help the homeless in Owosso and Lansing!
Owner of both the O Town Cafe and Cap City Cafe, Steven Cohen started doing suspended meal program that feeds about 7-15 people daily. Suspended meals work like this, when you eat at either O Town Cafe or Cap City Cafe you can offer to pay for a suspended meal when your bill arrives. Whatever you decide to contribute goes towards a meal or drink for a homeless person. Since starting the project Cohen has served over 200 meals.
Cohen stopped by the i929 studio to talk about the suspended meal program and other programs he runs to help the homeless community in Ingham County.

The 22K for Veteran and 1st Responder Suicide Awareness is a 22K race that symbolizes the 22 veterans that commit suicide every single day. Sarah's brother served our country and sadly committed suicide in 2016. Sarah wanted to do her part to not only show support to the men and women who serve our country and community, and decided to start the 22K to raise awareness.

One of the biggest events in Lansing is happening this Friday! Silver Bells In The City will kick off Friday at 5pm and run until 9pm as more than 60 floats, fireworks, and the lighting of the State Capitol tree all happen in Downtown Lansing. It's a tradition that brings families together as more than 325,000 lights from the 65 floats iulluminate the streets of Downtown Lansing.

Two MSU students teamed up together and gathered over 300 Halloween cards for kids battling life-threatening illnesses at the children's center inside Sparrow Hospital in Lansing.
Halloween is filled with trick-or-treating, haunted houses, horror movies, and all the candy you could ever dream of. For kids, Halloween is the one time where eating handfuls of candy is totally acceptable. Some kids aren't as lucky to enjoy the festivities due to life-threatening illnesses. That's where Tyler Logan and Yamani Vinson came together to show kids fighting for their life at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing that the community is thinking of them too during Halloween.
It all started with a Facebook post that Yamani saw on Facebook from a child in Wisconsin that is battling cancer. The child was asking for Halloween cards since he couldn't leave the hospital and celebrate the Halloween spirit with his friends.
Yamani and Tyler decided to do their part to help kids in Lansing by asking the community to come together and make cards for children battling life-threatening illnesses inside Sparrow Hospital. The idea turned into more than 300 cards for kids and dozens of bags of candy for the kids to enjoy.

Thanksgiving is a time come together and enjoy a great meal surrounded by those you love. Unfortunately, there are people out there that can't afford a Thanksgiving dinner and have to choose between paying bills or getting a turkey. Thanks to Pastor Victor, he is doing his part in the community to change that.
The 2017 Gobble Wobble Walkathon starts today as Pastor Victor will walk 50 miles over a three day period to raise money for Thanksgiving baskets for those in need. Pastor Victor joined Artimis just before hitting the trail to talk about how the Gobble Wobble started, his trials and tribulations, and those in need can receive a Thanksgiving basket.

Footprints Of Michigan is an organization that distrubites shoes to those in need. From Veterans, to those struggling to afford work shoes, to the homeless, Footprints Of Michigan is there to help get shoes and work boots for those in need. Geronimo stopped by the i92 studio along with Becca and David to talk about getting gently used shoes, inspecting them, and donating them back to the community.
