Harold Johansen began his involvement in hot rodding and racing in the mid 1940s in a Riley 2-port powered ’29 Model A roadster that he purchased for $37.00. Not only did he keep that very car for the rest of his life, but he also continued racing it and his other cars up to his final days. A member of the SCTA 200MPH club and the winner and holder of several Land Speed records throughout his life, Harold Johansen was one of the most dedicated and accomplished hot rodders the sport has ever known.

Davis would set an FIA record in 1952 at the Bonneville salt flats with a home made streamliner that would take away the records set by the German Auto Union race cars of Hitler's Nazi regime. He would then go on to conquer the USAC Sprint Car circuit and eventually make his way to the Indianapolis 500.
A one on one interview with the late Hot Rod Pioneer and legend, John Athan. A rare conversation with one of our last remaining early hot rodders, John was an innovator and a hugely important player during the dawn of the hot rod movement in southern California. His build style can be seen in constant use throughout the hot rod world today and his original '29 model A roadster on a '32 frame now resides in the permanent collection at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC.
