This birth story starts with

"I first want to say that there has never been a more significant

moment in my life than when I finally held my brand new baby girl

before they had even cut the cord. I know I will never forget that.

It would have been worth anything I might have experienced- good or

bad.

Next I want to say that my birth experience was a very positive one,

and that it seemed to me to be about half as long as it actually was-

16 hours. I was able to maintain focus throughout nearly all of the

experience and have to say that I am a true believer in the

effectiveness of the Hypnobabies program."

I have attended over 50 births.

I have missed 3 births.

1 was an emergency cesarean and I arrived after the mom was already in the operating room.

1 was an extremely long birth and I went to the first half, then headed out on a trip and my back up doula took over.

My favorite one I missed, I actually felt as if I was almost there.

Again, it was a trip that kept me from attending,

but my friend, knew that was possible, so she had other doulas coming too.

Here is what happened and how it felt like I was sort of almost there!

Valerie had 3 babies with epidurals.

Then she wanted to have a natural birth –

and did with baby 4.

that baby was posterior, like her first 3 and the discomfort made her not want to have another natural birth.

She had 2 more babies with epidurals. Then she met me and with Hypnobabies decided it was worth trying to have a natural birth again.

I was her doula for her last 2 babies

Yes, she had 8 babies! I loved interviewing Valerie.

She was one of my Hypnobabies Student – 2 times, for baby number 7 and 8!

I also was her doula for those 2 births.

She had Toxemia (high blood pressure) during her 3rd birth and was told to have no more children.

This led her on a path to alternative medicine. This allowed her to become strong enough to have more children. She got a second opinion and changed careproviders and went on to have 5 more children!

I was amazed at the story she shared about her friend who broke multiple bones and after a surgery was struggling with pain. Valerie felt inspired to lend her friend her Hypnobabies CDs and they made a huge difference.

Valerie also shares how Hypnobabies has helped her after having babies. Of course, she shares her birth experiences and it will be especially interesting to moms who have had posterior babies, as all 8 of her babies presented that way.

Do you know the amazing tool that can be used with dental surgery and birth? Did you know that people use hypnosis for dental surgery?

Hypnosis is a powerful tool! Hypnosis is a tool that can be used with all sorts of medical procedures.

It may seem hard to believe that hypnosis has been used on people for surgeries, even open heart surgery. That shows how powerful the mind can be.

It is used often for dental procedures. Some people use it to stay calm during dental procedures, so an emotional benefit. Some people will actually use hypnosis for anesthesia during dental procedures.

If it works for THAT, then hypnosis can totally work for birth.

Hypnosis works as an anesthesia If hypnosis can work for these invasive surgeries, than it can certainly work for birth, which is a natural event.

What if I was to write a book – Hypnobabies for Dummies? Well, it would be pretty simple.

Follow the instructions for practice.

Use your tools during birth.

So that is pretty simple and works,

but it would also be a sort of lame book,

and as a doula at over 50 Hypnobabies Births,

I have a good inside scoop!

Listen to the whole story...

but here is a tiny bit

"I have to say, I know that Hypnobabies gave me the birth of our dreams, and not just for the hypnosis aspect of the birth. It was  the program that led me to seek a Doula for the first time, and to go for a water birth. These three aspects combined really did give me the tools needed for ‘our’ perfect birth."

You are having a “normal” baby shower, but you want to make it a little bit more spiritual and meaningful for you.

A party with gifts and food is fun, but it is easy to add a few simple things to make this celebration more about the Mom and her journey to mothering this baby and therefore make it a bit more special.

Have you attended a Mother’s Blessing? You have heard about and maybe even attended a Mother’s Blessing, aka Blessingway? Do you want to help create something like that for your friend? At the same time you don’t want the fellow guests to think it is too “weird”. So maybe skip the belly henna painting, but try these 3 simple tips instead.

1 – Writing and Sharing Wishes Pass around blank note cards and have everyone write a wish or a piece of supportive advice they have for the mom.

Some examples:

A Fast and Easy Birth

A Happy Baby

An Easy Adjustment to the Baby

Take a Nap when the Baby Takes a Nap – you deserve the rest!

Then when Mom is opening their gift, the guest whose gift is being open stands up and reads their wish to the Mom.

The thing I really love about this is that it keeps the guests focused on the mom as she is opening gifts. It really makes the night about her and not just socializing with each other.

2 – Add Beads to take it An easy thing to take the first tip up a notch, is have each guest bring a bead to add to a necklace/bracelet for the mom. Have some extras on hand to give to those guests who forget to bring one. Or if you already sent the invites out, go get a bunch of fun beads that the guests can choose from during the party. When the guest shares their wish, they can go over to the mom and give her the bead and a hug. Have a bowl near the mom, as an easy place to store the beads as the gifts are opened.

After all the presents are opened, you can easily put the necklace/bracelet together.

The mom will love having a keepsake from the well wishes that were given to her. I know many moms who choose to wear their bracelet/necklace during their birthing time.

3 – We are all connected Take some colorful cording and wrap it around the Mom’s wrist. Then pass the cord around the group and have the guests wrap it around their wrist and keep passing it on. When it gets back to the Mom everyone is connected.

Take a moment and share how you are all connected together to share and love the expecting mother! That she can feel that love at any time.

Then go around and cut the cord between each person and have them tie the cord on their wrist. Let the guests know they can choose to wear it until the Mom has her baby. Remind them if they choose to do this, they can think of the expecting Mom and send her prayers and well wishes, each time they think of her.

Moms and Guests love it!

Do these 3 tips, or even 1, and it will add something special to the shower I have done this at 3 or 4 “normal” baby showers. Each time the guests and the Mom express how meaningful both of these activities were.

They were easy to add and made the baby shower more of a Mother’s Blessing.

What are your choices with birth and do you really have a choice if you don't know all the options?

Logan's birth was the second I attended as a doula.

It was extra special, because Jenn (Logan's mom) was my dearest friend!

In our last podcast episode I shared how Angela fired her OB 2 days before her due date.

In this episode, listen to her birth story,

it turned out great!!

"Ellen put her directly on my chest and mom let them know that we wanted to wait to cut the cord. She was beautiful and so peaceful.  She had a full head of black hair and her eyes were wide open.  My husband cut the cord after it stopped pulsing.  It was an amazing experience and Hypnobabies gave me so many tools to use during the birthing process.   I had a very positive outlook on pregnancy and birth and it could not have gone any better.  My husband, mom,  midwife and nurse were all amazed at how well I did.  My husband said he respected me prior to the birth but after the birth it has been raised to a whole new level!"

Angela was in for a surprise when she discovered all her conversations she had with her OB and the OB group were not exactly as it had been portrayed.

"I just finished the hospital tour of the place where we will be birthing (as of now). While they say it is patient centered and focuses on the patient

experience is it a very standard -rule- treat you like your are a sick patient type hospital and did not seem very natural friendly."

When she realized that her desires for her birth were not going to be honored, she fired her OB and found a different careprovider that was more supportive.

In this weeks episode, hear the steps that led her to this decision

and come back next week to hear how her birth story turned out.

I am so excited to have my first guest on the podcast.

Angela shares her last 2 Hypnobabies births.

Both were 10+ pound babies, yet each was unique and powerful.

Gracie’s 45 minute Hypnobabies Birth Listen as she shares how quickly the 45 minutes from water breaking to baby in arms went.

The Hypnobabies Pushing Track was key!

Hearing Kerry’s voice helped me so much because things were moving so quickly. Hypnobabies was a saving grace for me with this 45 minute birth of a 10 pound + baby.

DJ’s Hypnobabies Birth DJ was born 15 months after Gracie.

Angela was over 42 weeks along and she asked her midwife to break her water. Her midwife was hesitant, warning her it might take longer than Gracie’s 45 minute birth, since that one started spontaneously.

But Angela, knew this was the day.

Party Birth Angela calls this her party birth, she had her husband, 5 daughters, her childhood best friend (to help with her girls) a doula (me) the midwife and her assistant a photographer, and a DJ.

Things started right after her water was broken!

As soon as the tub was full enough she got in and this time she had to push a bit more as DJ’s head was pretty big, but he came out safely and we all cried tears of joy as she welcomed this sweet baby boy after 5 girls.

Show notes are here https://enjoybirth.com/hypnobabies-was-my-saving-grace-as-i-pushed-out-two-ginormous-infants/

Lavender Lavender can be used for SO many things during pregnancy. It’s relaxing and calming and can help you sleep better. It can also be calming to an upset stomach.

Peppermint Peppermint essential oil has so many great uses during pregnancy including helping with smell sensitivities. You can simply open the bottle and sniff it or diffuse it along with a citrus, like lemon or orange.

The information presented in class will go a long way in helping you trust your body and baby.

There are many different choices for Childbirth Classes.  Find one that fits with your desires for birth.

I discuss a few different options available in this podcast episode.

I have more options for classes and links to them on my blogpost.

What is Hypnobabies® Childbirth Hypnosis? Many of the birthing mothers who use Hypnobabies experience only pressure or tightening sensations during birth. They have their babies in a state of deep relaxation, with little or no discomfort or fear using real hypno-anesthesia.

Think Hypnobabies is too good to be true? I have seen many of my doula clients birth using Hypnobabies and I have used it myself.

You learn and practice so many different tools, so in your birthing time you can use what feels right to help you in each moment.

Learn a lot more in this episode.

She was going for her VBA2C (birth after 2 cesareans) and even after working so hard to find a supportive careprovider, she was with her original one that talked her into her second cesarean and we were at a hospital that wasn't supportive of VBACs!

How would it ever work out?

A series of little awesome things happened that helped her get the birth that she wanted!

I know some moms who use hypnosis worry when they sleep through their hypnosis tracks.

I was one of those moms and the hypnosis still worked.  :)

This is a birth story that Sita shared with me about her experience.  She felt like she was an imperfect student (who is a perfect student?) and also slept through her CD's.

She ended up having a great birth.  :)

This is one of my favorite births I attended as a doula, many years ago.

A small miracle helped me to be able to attend a church choir performance, despite a first time mom starting her birthing time.

Enjoy!

I read about a Texas Basketball Coach who led her team to a regional semi-final victory on a Friday night.

She then went to the hospital and had her baby an hour later.

The next day she went back to coach her team to another win moving up to the next level.

I think she deserves a medal... how about you?

I love this birth story that Lisa shared.  It is great to see how she trusted her body and even though she had a few moments of concern, she was able to stay focused and have a fast easy birth!

The only thing she was disappointed about, was not making brownies to bring to the nurses.  ;)

I often have moms who are pregnant and nervous about their upcoming births, because of past negative birth experiences. I love working with them, because with energy work we can quickly and easily see a shift.

I have even worked with moms that want to have another child, but are having such a hard time moving past their birth that they don’t want to get pregnant. They are really stuck.

I remember being scared to have another baby after my first birth, which was traumatic for my son and I. I had to really dig deep to be brave enough to get pregnant. I was so worried the pregnancy and birth would be a repeat of the first experience. Even though I logically knew that probably wouldn't happen, the fear was there.

Once I was actually pregnant, then I had to face the birth. I searched out tools to help me move past the fear. At the time I used hypnosis to help me shift. I think that is a powerful tool. I still suggest moms use hypnosis. Since birthing that baby (T3), I discovered energy work, which works faster and is an easier tool to help clear negative experiences. Now, I also use Energy Work to help moms release their negative experiences and get into a grounded more positive space about an upcoming birth.

If you are interested in learning more about energy work and how it can help you move past a negative birth experience, I am have a free online class to share more about how energy work can help you!

Believe it or not, you need to think about this months before your birthing time.  Because different careproviders and birth locations have different guidelines.  Some doctors love to induce their patients.  This would be important to learn before your third trimester.

In this episode I will discuss some good questions to ask your careprovider.

My first baby was born by emergency cesarean after I noticed he wasn't moving one morning after doing kick counts after breakfast. I called the Dr. and went in for a Non-stress test. He was under distress and was born via emergency cesarean minutes later. My being aware of his movements saved his life.

I want Mom’s to know how important this is.

I have a confession, I had a friend who years ago (years before I was a childbirth educator or doula) mentioned her baby wasn’t moving as much as normal. I am not sure why I didn’t say, “Call you OB and get it checked out right away.” I am not sure what I said, but a few days later she mentioned it again. That time I did tell her to call her OB. She did and when she went in she discovered her baby had passed. I still regret not having said something the first time.

Now if anyone mentions anything about decrease in movements I say “Call right now and GO IN to get things checked out!” Not out of fear, but out of love.

If there is nothing wrong, than mom is reassured. If there is something wrong, hopefully the baby can be helped.

YOU DON’T GET A MEDAL FOR MOTHERHOOD, but maybe you should!

The sacrifices that we make starting in pregnancy, through birth and then that first year are HUGE!

FOR SOME MOMS THE SACRIFICES MIGHT START * while they are trying to get pregnant. * with morning sickness. * with bedrest to help the baby stay in longer. * with the birth. * with struggling with breastfeeding. * with sleepless nights.

Regardless of when the sacrifices start, one thing is for sure.

All moms make sacrifices!

We don’t make these sacrifices FOR a medal, but we certainly do DESERVE one.

In this episode I explain why I created a medal for moms!
