Today we are talking about our next C, which is: Cost. Have you ever gotten a DM or email that has no introduction or anything and just says, “What does it cost?”
That can be super tricky. Because they are usually asking about the price. However, there are many costs associated with your product or service that are going into a person’s mind when they are determining whether or not to give you their money.
So hold that thought while I remind you of something. Let’s talk very briefly about money in general. Money, in the actual paper sense doesn’t hold any real value until we give it value, right? It’s honestly just a piece of paper. And now with venmo and paypal and apple cash, we’ve actually eliminated physical products too. But what gives it value? And who determines it? Of course, we have centuries of social constructs telling us the value of money, and we can also comprehend that the value of money can fluctuate (hello inflation), but if we break it down to it’s basics, money only has the value that you are willing to give it. Let me say that again, “Money only has the value that you are willing to give it.” And when you are asking someone to make a transaction with you, you are actually exchanging value. If you have an apple and I have 25 cents and I go to buy that apple, what is happening is that I value the apple more than I value my 25 cents. And the store owner, or whoever has the apple values the 25 cents more than the apple, and so a transaction occurs. Get it? So I want you to remember that.
When someone is asking you about the price of your product, they are constantly evaluating the value of the product you are providing. So when I talk about COST, in this context, it isn’t just the price of your product or service. When you are coming from your customer’s point of view, the COST is more than just the price, it’s everything that goes into making a value exchange decision. It could be the cost of their time to implement your product. It could be the cost of brain power to understand how to use your product. It could also include the cost of them understanding how beneficial a product is or not.
I know this may sound a little nebulous, but I want you to start thinking like your customer. What additional costs are associated with your product and how can you make that easier for the customer to want to make a transaction with you?
I don’t know if you’ve ever seen an advertisement for a crazy deal on flights. Sometimes I’ll get a random email or ad that says, “$29 round trip airfare.” Sounds like a crazy good deal right? I mean, if I were to say, “What does that cost?” You could technically say, well it costs $29. But is that true? As a customer, no…it’s not just $29. And I’m not just talking about the additional taxes and fees or expenses related to going on a trip, but I’m talking about all of the other costs associated with this offer. Usually the offer is only good within a certain time frame or only to certain cities. Do I honestly want to go to Cincinnati in January? Probably not. Do you see the costs that are going through my brain as a customer? Your potential customers are doing the same thing. They are unconsciously and consciously evaluating the cost…with a Capital C to determine if it’s worth the value exchange for them.
If you are struggling to sell something that is just SO amazing, then think about all of the tangible and intangible costs that your customer faces when deciding if it’s right for them to hand over some cold hard cash.
Once you have that information, THEN you can take action and do something about it. It could be creating more awareness, making it easier for them to have access, or educating them better on h

My graduate school classes are filled with people from a million different backgrounds, and some of them don’t have any experience in marketing. This may be what you are feeling like. You own a business, you want to grow, you love what you do, but you don’t necessarily love marketing. That’s okay. It can seem like a big scary thing, but here’s the thing-
We are all marketers!
Everything you do, from the products you create, to the reels you’re dancing in, to the emails you send, to how to tell other people about your services….that is all marketing. And understand the foundation of marketing is key for your business growth.
It’s our number one job to take care of our customers or consumers. I will use those words interchangeably, but for the purpose of this episode, we are going to just think of our customer or consumer or audience as all the same people….someone who will give us money in exchange for what we are offering.
The 4 C’s that we are going to be learning about are:
1) Customer’s wants and needs
2) Cost
3) Convenience
4) Communication
I had a great conversation with an entrepreneur this week who has an amazing product. It’s a digital CPA service that helps you get strategic about what to do with your business finances rather than just trying things out, handing your books over to an accountant, and paying your taxes.
The problem was that this client didn’t know who their customers were! And because of this they couldn’t move forward with anything else in their business. Sometimes it’s easy to say that your consumer is a mom or a teenage boy or an athlete or a foodie. But that’s not good enough. A great marketer always digs deeper. And when you think you’ve dug far enough, that’s a sign that you need to go even deeper. You need to be constantly trying to understand your customers more.
Many times you may come up with an amazing product, but have no one to sell it to. Instead, I would suggest that you focus on your target customer and create a product or offer that fills the void in their life. When you understand your customer, it becomes so much easier to create a product that they will want. Of course, if you’ve already created a product, that’s fine. It’s a great way to test your audience. If they are buying it, or if they love it, you know you’ve hit a home run. If you are hearing crickets, that may be a signal that you created something that doesn’t resonate with their needs. Don’t worry, it’s all about testing. Testing your product or audience is fine, but I find that it’s easier to learn as much as you can about your customer first and then create something amazing that will make their life better.

Megan knew she wanted to be a stay at home mom, but also wanted to contribute to her family income, so she began learning about running a business from home. She has made over a million dollars in sales and even has her children running their own companies. It's a family affair and she's done it all from home with the help of social media.
Megan says that one of the biggest questions we face as content creators is, "I don't know what to create!"
"It's a huge stopping point. So you throw up your hands, and walk away."
"BUT YOU DON'T HAVE TO REINVENT THE WHEEL!"
Let's keep it simple. Let's reuse our content.
What does that look like?
Your audience may have missed it the first time.
Someone may have just started following you.
You may have created amazing content that needs to be
shared again.
Your content will hit your audience differently each time—experiment with using the same content but switch up something simple, like the hook.
Use what's working well and freshen it up. Can you use it on a different platform? Or mix up the video shots? Can you change the colors and use the same quote?
Use third-party apps to help you schedule and repurpose your content.
"Don't be afraid if someone sees your content twice," Megan says. "They are going to see it twice. We want them to see it twice. In fact, we want them to see it a million times!"
Megan understand the power of getting out of your own way because many times we are stuck in the beginning. But by repurposing your content you can easily take content creation one step at a time and get out of overwhelm and into action.

What is a brand? It’s not your logo, fonts, or colors. It’s your vibe and energy that’s uniquely YOU!
Let’s learn more about the 4 Pillars of Building Your Brand to Grow Your Visibility
VISIBILITY - When it comes to being a brand, you have to have the mindset that it’s okay for you to show up and be seen. You don’t want to hide behind your logo or website. People crave connection. Understand that it’s important for you to show people and create connections exactly as you are. You are exactly where you need to be to add value to the world.
Jack recognizes that there’s a lot of internal work to do in order to reach that external goal. A lot of times it’s getting over whatever insecurities we have.
You have a message to share to the world and people need to hear that message.

Have you heard the rumblings? People are stressing out about whispers (and shouts) of an impending recession. What will this do for you or for your business? How will you grow or even make ends meet? These are difficult questions to ponder on.
I've had a number of people in my world speak on this exact topic. From mastermind groups to daily emails, podcasts and more. There’s a general trend of people in the online space that are feeling fearful.
Because things are a little bit rocky in our economy. Sales are down across the board and people are starting to stress out.
Whether you are reading the news or listening to people of influence saying that there’s been a slowdown for their business, don’t let this strike fear into your heart.
Here's the bottom line. When it comes to your business, do not get stuck in the downward cycle of scarcity.
Push pause on that rhetoric. You can choose to believe that your business will be deeply affected by a recession or you can choose to be open to the possibilities that the future will bring you.
This is the difference between an abundant marketing mindset vs a scarcity marketing mindset.
We get to think and decide how we want to react to any situation in our business. That's the beauty of being an entrepreneur. The beauty of being able to have your own business. You get to choose how you want to think about it and the actions you wanna take in relation to what's going on.
Ask yourself: Are my thoughts and energy being scarce or abundant?
Because whatever the answer is, you are right. If you are having scarcity thoughts, you will see scarcity in your business. If you are having abundant thoughts, you will see abundance in your business.
How does this work?Listen to the episode www.britbennion.com/116 for all the details.

She created her successful life coaching practice while parenting three teenagers, teaching special education full-time, supporting her husband in his demanding career, and serving as the President of her Church's Women's Organization.
Ceri works with creative entrepreneurs, many of whom have ADHD, helping them streamline their priorities and goals while simplifying their business, and schedules so that they have time and mental energy to continue to grow their successful business, strengthen family relationships, and have time for themselves.
Lead with our strengths in all areas of life
When your strengths become stronger, then we are able to develop in areas in which we are weaker so we can now develop that.
Doing the things that are strengths for us is the best way to do more of what we’re good at and will build our confidence.
The more you lead with your strengths the faster your business and confidence will grow?
How do you know what strengths you have to use?
We all have talents, but sometimes it may take a while to figure out what you have. You can start out by just believing that you have them. Ask yourself these questions:
The answers to these questions will help you know what actions and what topics you like. They will also help you to understand what feeling you like to have when using those strengths.
Don’t confuse inexperience with weakness. One of today’s biggest challenges is to perform well right now and not be willing to fail. We can develop a new strength if we give ourselves the space to grow. Don’t let fear stop you. You can be scared to do something, but still work on it and develop it into a strength.
Hire Out or Do Without
If you are able to hire out some part of your life then it frees up time to do more of what you love. It doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re paying someone to do something, but rather that you assign someone else to take on that task or you perform a trade.
This allows you to do more of what you love and less of what you don’t enjoy. When we look at spending money as an exchange to do more of what we love, that’s empowering.
Also, recognize what the “needle movers” are in your business. What are the things that are making you grow and do more of that. So many times we focus on things that we think we “have” to do, but they aren’t helping us. Those are the things we can do without.
You could take all of the business courses, tips, and tricks to be successful, but if you don’t believe in yourself, those things will be of no value to you. Build your confidence and recognize the value of believing in yourself. It will make all the difference in what you are learning.
If we are growing a business or doing something different that we've never done before…What if we just expected that we could learn what we didn't know?
It isn’t because you are talented that you can succeed. It’s that you have the ability to believe in yourself.

Lisa says that growing beyond your audience is vital to the life of your business.
Clients will say, "I feel like I'm constantly creating content for social media, but I'm not seeing it convert. I'm not getting more sales. I feel like I'm doing things over and over on this hamster wheel."
Lisa tells them, "There is a huge difference between content and visibility content.
It is so important that we're showing up, that our audience can get to know us, but we have to remember that content is only seen by the people who already follow us."
Our content nurtures the people who are already there, but a visibility strategy will help us to grow and bring more people into our ecosystem.
HOW CAN YOU GROW YOUR AUDIENCE?
Lisa says that you can grow your audience using paid ads, but that can get expensive very quickly.
Instead of worrying about FB/IG ads, you can get your name out there and be more visible by borrowing other people's audiences.
This is called "earned media". Lisa says this essentially, "leverages other people's platforms showing up with value so that you can get access to their audience.
Many entrepreneurs aren't utilizing earned media. But this is one of the fastest and least expensive ways to grow your audience.
Earned media can be something as simple as guesting on someone's podcast or in a group, writing an article or going live with another contemporary in your field.
WHAT STEPS CAN I TAKE TO GROW MY AUDIENCE?
ABC's of Audience Growth
A: Awareness - Get in front of the person who has the ability to hand over their credit card.
B: Build Buzz - Get a lot of people talking about you and your launch, product, upcoming offer, service. This isn't just you posting about it once, this is over and over again from many people.
C: Credibility - Build credibility so that your name is being said in the right circles by the right people. You want to be seen as the "go-to" person to solve their probelm.

Want to know more about the dark side of personal branding? What about the ways in which you might be ruining your personal brand?
Here are 5 ways you may be ruining your personal brand.
Maybe you are doing some of these things and don’t realize they are actually hurting your brand. Jump on in and see how you can stop doing this and start seeing results.
You Don't Have a Strategy
Every successful brand you see has a strategy. No one is just crossing their fingers that the things they are doing in business are just going to work. Even if we allowed for some serendipitous moments in our business, that’s really not a long term strategy.
Every business that is growing has a strategy behind it. They have systems in place that get their future clients to start thinking about their problems differently and showing them that perhaps their company has the solution. They are coming up with ways to engage and serve their current clients at a higher level. With different offerings and ways to work with them. All of this is a strategy. All of the content and marketing that they are doing has a purpose.
Posting everyday is not a strategy. If you are not leading your audience along on a journey, if you are just posting for posting’s sake, that’s going to make your business run in circles and get you nowhere.
If you do not have a clear understanding of the what and why behind the content you’re creating, you are not going to get to where you want to go. The simpler your strategy is, the better. Make sure to understand and be intentional with the content you are creating in order to help convert your audience from passive listeners to active customers.
You Don’t Know Your Audience
If you are speaking to everyone, no one is going to listen. I absolutely love working with my one on one clients to get down to the core of who their audience is. Everytime we are able to go just a little bit deeper. Sometimes you think that you know your audience, but if you’re not getting feedback from people saying that they are loving your content, then you aren’t getting specific enough with your audience. You can always, always go deeper in understanding who it is that you are trying to serve and speak to.
When you know your audience, everything in your business changes. You can then cater your offers to them, speak to them on a whole new level, create content that turns them into raving fans and more!
You Are Confusing Your Customers
If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times….a confused client doesn’t buy.
Confusion on the simplest level can really hurt your brand. Which is why I teach you how to have brand consistency in your content and visuals in my online course, Brand Builder’s Bootcamp.
If you're constantly confusing your audience by not being consistent with your message and visuals they will seek out a more clear and consistent brand.
You Are Copying Other People
This can show up in a few different ways.
The first is that you are copying someone else’s content and posting it directly on your page. Even if you have permission and/or give credit to them, this is not helping your business. It is setting them up as the brand authority and taking that authority away from you.
Another way is copying other people's ideas or content and presenting it as your own. Not only is this in bad taste, but it’s taking away your power and your authority in the field.
Content is no longer king, original content is. So trust yourself, step into power and create your own original content out of your own origi

Understanding your customer journey is key to growing your business and making more sales. But do you understand what stage your general audience is in? And how can you move them along faster?
There are 5 levels of brand recognition to understand in order to be intentional with your content creation. Think of these levels as a ladder to scale climbing upwards.
Brand Rejection
The lowest level of brand recognition is where people not only don’t recognize you but they flat out reject you. This is where people have some sort of negative associations with your brand - they're 100% trying to avoid your company.
Perhaps this is caused by a bad experience or bad press. Either way, you don’t want to be on this level with your audience.
Brand Non-Recognition
Brand non-recognition is where you are just another face in a crowd and no one knows about you. People don’t recognize your brand or understand anything about it. Therefore they cannot take action with you.
If you are not gaining traction in your business, perhaps you are stuck on this level. I teach in Brand Builder’s Bootcamp how to move out of this level so that you can be seen and heard. This is where branding starts to shine!
Transitioning from brand non-recognition to brand recognition is a huge step that comes through consistency, repeating your core messages, and your visual brand elements.
Brand Recognition
This level is where customers are actually recognizing you. They recognize your brand. They can differentiate you from your competition. At this stage you know what makes you different, you know what sets you apart, and you are able to convey that confidently and consistently in your messaging and your content.
Brand Preference
The next level of brand recognition is brand preference. This is where your audience actively chooses you and your offers over the competition. This is where you're no longer competing on price, but rather the unique offer you have.
This comes from having great systems and processes in place - excellent customer service, and results that other people can see.
Brand Loyalty
The final level of brand recognition is brand loyalty. This is where your audience keeps coming back to your brand no matter what - even if they’ve had a bad experience with you. They love you so much they are willing to forgive your mistakes.
You may not be perfect, but you’ve created a fanbase. These are your super fans. This is the ultimate level that we want to take our people to when it comes to brand recognition. This stage shows you are really honed in on the needs and wants of your audience and you can deliver results time and time again.
Check out the episode to learn more about what to do in each of these levels in your business.

Shelby & Kristina, both professionally trained comedic actresses, started making comedy videos "just for fun" in 2015. What started out as a passion project turned into a career, when various brands & businesses started approaching them for custom video content. Although content creation is no longer just a hobby, Shelby & Kristina still bring that same sense of fun to every project they tackle, leaving their clients with something truly unique. They handle every aspect of production from ideation to editing; a one-stop shop for all of your video content needs.
Understand that one of the best ways to connect your brand with your audience is relatability. You want your product to be relatable so people can see that it will serve them in their lives. The driving factor of comedy is relatability.
When you are able to bring comedy into your content, you are able to be a little more vulnerable which allows you to double down on that connection and relatability.
Your content should do one of three things:
When you use comedy in your content, you can easily hit all three of these targets.
What if you are fearful of adding comedy in your brand?
Sometimes as women, we are much more aware of how people perceive us in business. We are fighting to balance fun and professionalism and it can feel very vulnerable. “When using comedy,” Shelby says, “you really have to let your guard down. You have to climb over that wall. You have to be vulnerable to show that you're not perfect. That you don't have it all together and that you make mistakes too.”
“But when you can laugh with someone, that’s the biggest bonding factor there is.”
Kristina says, “You should push yourself! Take that creative risk, because there is such a payoff when you go outside of the box.” She says that it can actually help your audience to respect you more because you are being so creative.
How to start using comedy videos in your brand?
We may think that you have to be spontaneous and off the cuff in order to be funny, but Kristina says that the opposite is true. “If you are thoroughly and deeply prepared, then you have the flexibility to sort of play around in the moment.”

Michelle Gifford is an expert at helping women business owners message and market their business, inspiring women to take action and delivering the tools to make it happen. As a business coach, podcaster, speaker, and founder and CEO of Michelle Gifford Creative, she guides women through creating and maintaining a business that lasts through creative content and online strategy. Her agency, Michelle Gifford Creative, cultivates brand strategies and content for influencers and creatives. A mom to five, she and her husband are raising their family in Southern California.Michelle is passionate about working with women and helping them grow their businesses. One of the bigggest struggles that she sees women face is that they don't take themselves as seriously as they should.
Even working with big brands, Michelle sees that many women can feel scared.
"They're scared to put themselves out there and they also don't consider themselves a business. They don't treat themselves like a business and there's a mindset shift that has to be made by women at some point. It happens individually.
"We're so afraid that people are going to find out that we're starting a business and that's not what 'moms' do. But I'm a happier mom because I have."
Michelle says that one of the first big decisions she made while establishing herself as a brand was to hire a personal branding photographer. That's one way that she knew she could take herself and her business more seriously. She wanted to show up differently and in a very professional manner, so hiring a brand photographer was at the top of her list.
Knowing that you have a brand and what the elements of it helps you to become instantly recognizable.
Create a brand message that aligns with your branding elements.
When you have systems in place, you can replicate it over and over again - saving you time and energy.
"Not only does it simplify our business and simplify the decisions we make, it helps us! It helps us be more recognizable to our people. Branding is all about repetition. Branding and marketing is all about repetition showing up and saying, I've said the same thing in a million different ways for the last three years."
Bonus Tip Put yourself out there and then listen to what is resonating with people. The more you do this, the more you understand your brand.
"I think we can get really stuck on being perfect. We think we need to have our brand be perfect. We say, 'I need my messaging to be perfect.' But your messaging is going to get better and more clear, the more you say it and the more you take feedback."
Michelle also reminds us to show up and serve our audience, just like she does in her coaching program Money Makers.
Money Makers is a program that includes courses, coaching, and community. Michelle has a huge library full of courses to help you start, manage, and succeed in your business. She believes in making this information easily accessible for all women to learn and grow.
Her courses include topics like:

A brand mentor of mine once said “You’re doing your audience a favor by repeating yourself.”
What does it mean to repurpose content?
It’s really the practice of determining your best performing content and recycling and reusing it. I’m not saying that you should copy and paste the exact same content every single day. Instead, focus on what is working, what is resonating with your audience and create more of that type of content.
Why should you repurpose your content?
Simpler
Why work harder when you can work smarter? This is 100% true. When you are repurposing content, it makes everything so much simpler. You’re able to really focus on a few main topics or points in your business that you want your clients to understand and can create to just those simple things. This is really where you get off of that hampster wheel of content creation.
Easier to Understand
Too much new content for your audience can be overwhelming. It’s like drinking water from a firehose. You don’t want to drown your audience. However, if you keep repeating the critical things they need to know, they’ll actually start to grasp these concepts.
Stand out as a brand authority
Repeating your message and repurposing your content helps you to stand out as brand authority. People will come to you when they want to know or learn something. If you’re selling a coaching package and talk about something new every single day, you’ll have lost your audience. However, if you focus on a very specific niche then you will stand out as the authority in your field. You will be the one that others will recommend when their friend or co-worker or family members needs to hear your message.
Not everyone sees your content the first, second, third, or fourth time
Most people, including the people who have actively chosen to follow you will not see everything that you post. In fact, industry average is that only 3-10% of your audience will actually see your content at any given time. That means that not everyone sees your content the first time, or the second time, or the third time, or even the fourth time.
If that’s the case, then repurposing is not only good for you, your workload and mental health, but it’s also a fantastic practice for your audience. They want to hear from you. So repurpose your content and message in a number of different ways so that they can get that message.
By not repurposing your content and message you are leaving opportunities and money on the table.
Reach New Audiences
Your audience is always growing. You have new people coming into your circle every day. Don’t just give out your best information once and call it good. Your new audience will be missing out. When you repurpose your content you are allowing your new audiences the opportunity to learn all of the amazing things about you and your offer. Always keep in mind both your current and new audiences. Repurposing your content means that it’s not only getting reinforced in the minds of those who already know you, but it’s introducing that content to your new audience.
How to repurpose content?
Listen to the episode for all the details.
The next time you’re wondering what to post, focus on repurposing your content. This practice makes your content creation:

I know that these are questions and thoughts you are having because at some point in time, all entrepreneurs have these thoughts. When content creation becomes a rat race and you feel an overwhelming pressure to create content, business doesn’t always feel as enjoyable as it once did.
Content marketing is a way to nurture your community and show up regularly to build connection with them. That way, when you open doors to your next launch, or offer a new product, you’ll already have an engaged audience that knows, likes, and trusts you. This is the backbone of content marketing.
Showing up consistently doesn't mean you have to post every single day. Consistency just means showing up in the same place, regularly, and with consistently good content. It means showing up in the same style, with the same tone of voice, so that your audience isn't left guessing what you'll do next. This is what I talk about regularly when it comes to understanding and building your brand. You create brand awareness and consistency through everything you put out into the world. It’s not just your colors, fonts, and logo. It’s consistency in showing up to build that trust and not leaving your audience confused.
Which is why I created The Content Collective. To help takeaway the question of “What do I post today?” and take the overwhelm out of content creation.

Personal styling is everything that embodies the external representation of who we are. Not just what clothing we wear. It encapsulates their energy, their body language, the confidence you feel within your style.
Your personal style translates over video and photos. Which is why it’s so important to understand your personal style in your brand.
This doesn’t mean that you have to be wearing the latest “it” item, wearing designer clothing or chasing trends. What understanding your personal style means is that you are drawing in a community of people that relate to and understand who you are.
Prioritizing your style also helps you see a future version of yourself. Ask yourself: “Am I embodying the person that I want to be seen as? And am I doing that intentionally?”
Jordan shares more important questions to think on:
Authenticity is important with your personal style, so how do you reconcile being authentic and showing up as the best future version of yourself? Jordan says to think of your “Badass Alter Ego Self.”
If you haven’t quite figured out your personal styling yet, you can start off by thinking of what it would be like to embody that badass alter ego persona. If you had everything figured out, what does she look like? How does she present herself? How could I understand her? How is she dressing? What makes sense to her?
When you can separate the two - where you are now and where you want your future self to be, you can start to embody who you want to become while staying true and authentic to yourself.
Personal styling and personal branding is a transformative experience. If we want to be, do, have something different, then we have to do something different.
You can build confidence in your personal styling just by trying.
There are 3 key steps to get started.
Styling is not superficial. It’s an extension of your body and who you are. Be an anthropologist to your own self and discover what lights you up and is authentic to yourself. This should feel very fun because there’s no wrong way to style yourself. You just need to start.

Hunter is a business mentor for the beauty industry teaching independent service providers how to set boundaries by automating and elevating their client experience.
He loves spilling all the tea about creating systems that hold you accountable to boundaries so you can reclaim time, freedom and energy back from your business as an entrepreneur.
Hunter’s expertise extends beyond the beauty industry. Anyone can learn and implement the techniques that he teaches.
Hunter teaches that as an entrepreneur, we juggle a lot of different responsibilities to keep our business performing at the caliber that we want. And the only way to do this is to have 3 key ingredients:
1. Boundaries
Hunter says that by setting boundaries we are better able to take care of ourselves. Instead of always hustling and working 24/7, if we set boundaries to make sure we aren’t burnt out, we can better serve our clients.
Hunter’s favorite message is: “You cannot fill from an empty cup.” Yes, there is a time and place for “short term sacrifice for long term gain,” but that isn’t a sustainable business practice.
2. Systems/Automations
One of the best ways to grow is to implement technology to help with systems and automations in our business. Hunter says to not be afraid of technology or thinking that your client experience will be lessened because of it.
If Fortune 500 companies utilize systems and automations, you’d better believe that it will boost your business to do so too!
“Technology allows us to serve our clients better.” Whether that’s helping you keep your boundaries, communicate in a faster way, or give you the time freedom you desire, taking the time to set up automations is well worth it.
Systems compliment the boundaries you set in your business.
3. Amazing Client Experience
When you have systems in place, it makes the experience for your clients amazing. No longer are they confused about how to work with you, book an appointment, contact you, etc. The systems you have in place make the experience with you worthwhile.
And doing that will make you stand out in your industry. All customers want to feel like they are being taken care of and by focusing on your boundaries and systems, your client experience will be one to remember.
Listen to the full episode to learn more about the types of boundaries and systems you can put into place and how Hunter was able to uplevel his customer’s experience and stand out from his competitors.

I know that as an entrepreneur you are also a content creator. Whether it’s a podcast or blog post or pinterest pins or instagram reels or TikToks or LinkedIn articles…the list goes on and on, I see that you are on that hamster wheel of content creation. So take a page out of my notebook and these lessons that I’ve learned.
1) Keep your mind in the Gain
Look back at where you started and where you are now. Let that be your motivation and your support to know that you can and will get better - that this will get easier. That you’ve been able to serve your audience and that will only have a snowball effect as you continue to show up in your business online.
2) Have a guide
If you are listening to my podcast, I hope that you see me as your guide. It is such an honor to have you here and I will never take that for granted. Every listen, every email or review or DM I get makes my heart flutter. Because I want you to grow and thrive and know that you can ask me questions and learn something new each day.
3) Lean on your community
Having a supportive community is foundational. It doesn’t even have to be in person. I have the most amazing support group and they all live far away from me! Some are in different countries, some I’ve never even met. And some I’ve known for months or years and they know exactly what I’m working on in my business on a week to week basis.
4) Do the work
It’s hard sometimes, and I completely sympathize with you. Long hours, late nights, early mornings and sometimes it feels like you have nothing to show for it. But keep going. If you have a guide, like we talked about before, it makes doing the work faster because you can follow their process. If you have a community, it makes doing the work easier because you get feedback or support. See how that builds on each other?
5) Be okay to start at the beginning
Start. Just start. Start somewhere. Start messy. Start under a pile of blankets. Start with less than stellar audio or graphics or the perfect color pallet. Getting started is the only way to get where you want to go. Remember, you can’t get to episode 100 if you didn’t create episode 1. So stop daydreaming about where you want your business to be in 5 years. Stop sitting in indecision about what to do next or how to niche down, or what audience you want to attract. Get started. All of that will get fleshed out as you are constantly changing and growing. So start at the beginning. It’s okay. I’m giving you permission. The problem isn’t that you are a beginner. The problem is that you aren’t getting started. This is the number 1 thing getting in the way of your success. And the longer you delay, the further out of reach your goals and dreams are.
There are my 5 lessons that creating 100 podcast episodes have taught me:
Brand Builder’s Bootcamp are about to open. This is my 6 week course to help you define your brand, create the content you need to grow and systematize it so that you get out of that hamster wheel. At the end of the 6 weeks you will have all of the tools to do the work. You will have me as your guide. You will have that community. And most importantly, you will have a reason to get started and leave that fear of not doing everything perfectly behind. If you are ready to get to your own version of episode 100, join the waitlist at britbennion.com/waitlist.
I want to thank you all again for being with me on this journey. I 100% recognize that this podcast wouldn’t be here without you. You are the reason why I create

How many of you, either right now, or when starting out ask yourself, how do I get more followers? How do I get more email subscribers? How do I get more reel views or shares?
Don’t be ashamed. Yes, this is very common. These are the questions we are asking, because in our minds we are connecting more of these metrics with growth in our business.
But I’m here to tell you…You are asking the wrong questions.
Instead of asking how do I get more followers? How do I grow my Instagram? How do I get more likes on a post. You need to be asking how do I create and share content that is worth following.
What does this mean?
There are two ways to grow your business: 1 - Through Paid advertisements, like FB ads, Google Ads, Pinterest Ads, and more.
And the second way is through content marketing.
Paid advertising is an amazing way for you to grow your business. But when you’re starting out, you may not have a marketing or advertising budget. That’s okay. In business, you can either use time or money to grow. And you usually only have one or the other, or you usually only want to spend one or the other.
Most people, especially when you are starting out, use content marketing as a way to grow your business.
So what is content marketing? Content marketing is when you create relatable, relevant, and reliable content for your audience.
Content can be created in many different forms. From social media posts, to emails, podcasts, blogs, tutorials. You name it, in our day and age, the sky's the limit!
So let’s break down how to create and share content that is worth following.
Your content needs to be these three things:
Relatable
Relevant
Reliable
What does it mean to have relatable content? It means that the content you are creating builds a connection with someone else. And that starts out with you actually knowing who it is that you are speaking to. There are billions of people in the world, and if you are ready to stand out in the crowd, you need to have a specific message to a specific person.
When you are creating content that is relatable, you stand out from the crowd and people will connect that you are the person who can help them solve their problem.
Which leads into the next piece that your content needs to be: Relevant. Your content needs to serve a purpose. This means that you are cutting away the fluff of trying to do all the things and simplify into one single message. This is your brand. This is defining what it is that you do and being so clear on it that everything you create leads back to that message.
I’ve worked with tons of women and especially in some of the masterminds that I’m in, there seems to be this lack of clarity.
Women want to do this, but they also want to do that, but they help people in this way, but they know that that other way could work. And in the end, everyone is confused. And remember, a confused client doesn’t buy. You do not want to confuse the people you are speaking to. You want what you say to be relevant and serve a purpose for them.
Because while YOU are creating the content, everyone is looking to find a part of them IN that content. They want to know what’s in it for them. This is human nature.
When we think about Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, we know that people are motivated by things that will help them better survive. People are programmed to seek out things that they know will help them. When you create content that serves a very specific, very actionable purpose, you are going to gain those superfans, those followers that put their trust in you.
Make sure that your content is relevant.

There is something special about looking at people through the lens of a camera. And I have looked at many, many women through the lens of a camera. Asking them to do something that doesn’t come natural to most of us. Something that makes most people feel very vulnerable.
I’ve had women tell me their secrets and greatest fears. Things that they usually want to hide, but are afraid that the lens of the camera will actually capture it. “I’m not pretty. I’m too old. This eye is bigger than this one. My face is not symmetrical. Can you make me look smaller? Can you see my cellulite through my pants. I have these little “eleven-sies” right in between my eyes.” And then even deeper. “I’ll never be successful. My mother in law thinks I’m a joke. My husband doesn’t believe in me asks when I’ll get a real job. I can’t ever stick to anything. I’m not consistent. I feel burnt out. I just sell some little things in a little shop.”
And over the years of working with women entrepreneurs I know that I am not just a photographer. I’m a dig-deep-down, challenge your inner most thoughts and transform you into something completely different kind of a gal. But most importantly with my clients…I’m a cheerleader.
And as I’ve been doing the work on myself, I came to a realization. I cannot change society. I cannot change the fact that over the course of thousands of years, women have been taught that they are less than, should be smaller, quieter, nicer, wallflowers. So much so that it’s most likely ingrained in our DNA. I can’t change any of that. And I also know that I cannot control the experiences that my daughter has in life. But despite all of that I know that I hold the key to setting her on a different path.
And that simple key is that I can be an example.
The most important thing that I can do to change the trajectory for my daughter is to show her that I love myself. And in turn, the most important work that I can do in this world is to be an example of self-love so that I can show other women and they can show their friends and neighbors and daughters.
So you may be saying, Brittany….this is all very nice and well, but what does it mean to love yourself?
Does it mean that I give myself a hug everyday or soak in a bath or get a pedicure? Are you telling me that by getting a pedicure that I’m going to change the world? Maybe I am.
But I don’t want you to mistake self-love with self-reliance or self-sufficiency. We can take care of ourselves, which is self-reliance, but self-love is the ability to not dissolve into a puddle of shame or self-hatred when we mess up. It means that we can try new things that we might fail at and know that we, ourselves, are not failures. And self-love isn’t actually always easy.
I’m going to break it down into 3 very simple categories and in a very simple way so that you can remember this.
BODY. MIND. HEART
This is exactly what I do with my clients. Before they e

Working with a brand photographer might look different than what you expected. Having a photographer that just shows up and takes pictures will only get you so far.
After investing time, energy, and money into a photoshoot, you want to have a photographer who does more for your business.
Commercial and brand photographer, Jenna Joann, tells her clients just that. "
"There's lots of different touch points that you have to make with your client. If you're out there and you say, 'It's time for me to hire a photographer, I'm ready to work with somebody,' find somebody that's going to communicate with you and really understand and get that deep level knowledge of your brand."
The more your brand photographer knows about you and your business, the better equiped they are to capture your brand.
Whether you hire a brand photographer to photograph you or your business products, it's crucial that your photographer has an understanding of your needs.
When working with products, Jenna ask questions like-
"What is this product? What are the ingredients made in it? I'm literally taking apart the product in my mind. So I'm looking at whatingredients are in it. What's the color of this product? What is this product used for? How does it smell? How does it make me feel?"
Because at the end of the day, you aren't necessarily selling a product, but rather how that product is going to make you feel.
Which is why brand photography is catgorized as a business investment, rather than a business expense.
With brand photography you get a return on what you spend. Not only are you able to sell more of your offers but you are able to be more confident and show up in a different way in your business.

No matter where you are on your business journey, we can all use a little more confidence. Here are the 7 daily things I do to boost confidence in myself, my offers, my business, and life.
1. Stop Comparing Yourself to Others
When you compare yourself to others, you will always be at least one step behind and always looking to other people to validate your decisions and choices.
And when you compare yourself to others, you are usually comparing your very worst to their very best. But the truth is that no one is as perfect or put together as they may seem online.
Start focusing on trusting who you are.
2. Look Inward, Not Outward
When we're looking outward at what other people are doing, it distracts us from what we need to do in our business and in our purpose.
Trust who you are and trust your gut. You get to decide what works best for you and your business. Yes, that includes some testing and trial and error, but you will get to you goals so much faster if you start by looking inward for answers.
3. Measure Backwards
Measuring backwards means that you're focusing on yourself and looking at where you are now versus where you were before.
This simple exercise will allow you to open up your mind to be able to see that you've grown, that you learned something new, and that you're getting better.
Otherwise, you're constantly chasing this ideal that you'll never get to. Instead use this technique to measure backwards and see what gains you've made in your life and business to boost your confidence.
To learn more about this, check out The Gap and The Gain.
4. Power Pose
I love talking about power posing and in fact, I have a whole episode about power posing.
So what is power posing? It's literally moving your body into a more confident position. When you move your body, your brain follows.
I like to call it the "wonder woman" pose. It's when you stand up, legs are spread apart like hip with the part, your chest is puffed out your hands on your hips and your head is held up. What happens when you get into a powerful position like this, is that your brain is your brain is literally being rewired to build confidence and hold empowering thoughts.
5. Rewire the Words In Your Head
This has been my goal for 2022! I'm my own biggest critic.
And I hear the same from women all the time.
"I don't know what I'm doing." "I'm not enough." "I weigh too much." "I can't get my pictures taken." "I don't know what I'm doing in, in business or marketing." "I'm so overwhelmed." "I'm stressed out."
I hear it all the time. I say it all the time to myself too. I also hear people who are further along on their business journey than me say the same things.
To combat this, you must flip these words on their heads. Find the opposite of these destructive thoughts and focus on that. Consciously repeat those in your mind to rewire your thoughts that aren't serving you.
6. Learn Something New
I love to learn. I love courses. I love podcasts. I love books.
Build you confidence by learning something simple: learn how to organize a drawer, learn how to fold animals with your washcloth, learn how to clean your blinds, learn how to make a new dessert.
When you are learning your brain opens up

Each year, I take a day at the end of the year to do some review and planning. When I’m doing my year in review there are a few different questions that I ask myself.
The first thing I ask myself is:
How did this year start out?
You may have heard the saying, you overestimate what you can do in a day and underestimate what you can do in a year. When you take a few minutes to reflect back on where you started and where you are now, you will be blown away.
This can be for anything in your life. Not just your business. When I think back to where I was last year and where I am now, it puts so many things into perspective. This has been a huge year for me and my family. But not entirely in a business sense. My husband graduated and got his PhD, we got his dream job, moved across the country, and are finally settled. This time last year, we had NO clue where we were going to be. With Covid and soaring unemployment rates, we had no idea if my husband would even get a job. With my business, I had to put everything on hold for the majority of 3 months. And yet, I’m still here doing my best to show up for you.
That’s a whole lot of things happening in a year’s time. But let me tell you. When I focus on the day to day actions, the majority of the time, I feel like I’m behind. I’m not. From where this year started out to where I am now is amazing.
What worked well this year?
It’s always great to focus on the things in your business and life that went really well. Did you have an offer that took off? Did you create a new offer that was more in alignment with your audience? Were you more consistent in doing something? Did you have better systems?
This year, and especially this last quarter, I’ve been crushing it at Instagram Reels. They have been SO much fun to create and I love being able to educate and entertain at the same time.
I’ve also really dedicated some time to upping my Pinterest game. It’s been a challenge because my brain tells me that I’m not an expert in this, which is why I bring on Pinterest guest experts to teach you about this amazing platform. But let me tell you, I’ve been working, and learning, and experimenting, and I’m proud to say that I’ve seen a difference in my business and Pinterest is something that has worked well for me this year.
What didn’t work so well?
Being able to reflect on ways to improve is always an excellent step to take in your business. When we don’t take the time to reflect on this, we may be sticking our heads in the sand, or trying to push through so hard that we don’t realize we are pushing against a brick wall. When we ask ourselves what didn’t work so well, it allows you to make some changes, removes blocks, and helps you move forward.
Things that didn’t work well for me this year, batching my content. I know, I know. I’m the queen of touting the benefits of batch work. And I stick 100% to all of that. But I’m being very honest with you. Sometimes, it just doesn’t work for me. This year, I have been dealing with some PTSD and anxiety and it’s really hindered me from being able to batch create in the way that I like to. I’m putting some systems into place in 2022 so that I can get back into the power of batching.

Welcome to the posed for success podcast, episode 91, The Confident Selfie Secret.
How many times have you tried to take a selfie? You are most likely in either one of three camps.
I know you know what I’m talking about.
Now most of you aren’t likely to be in that third group. It’s just not in most people’s nature to feel comfortable on camera or to take and post perfect selfies all the time. Now, I’m on a mission to change that, but we’ll get back to that in a bit.
You probably felt more like group 1 or two, who either completely avoids taking selfies or you aren’t confident with taking your own photo that you end up taking a million photos and then spend a half hour trying to pick out one that you actually feel like it’s worth posting.
If you relate to this at all, listen up, because I’m talking directly to you. Here are some reasons why I think you need to learn how to take selfies. Or, if we want to make it sound more professional….learn the art of self portraits.
To begin, you need to understand that there is a deep desire in human beings to connect. I’ve talked about this plenty, but this is the best place to start. Humans love connection. That’s how we operate in everything that we do in the world. We have to connect in order to work, collaborate, sell, and buy. And people will choose to take these actions with people they know, like and trust. If you are looking to increase these types of actions with others, you need to start with connection.
Your audience needs to see you. They need to learn more about you. They need to like you and what they see, and then they will begin to trust you. Taking self portraits is a crucial step in this process.
If you want to test this out for yourself, check out what content people engage with the most. Whether on your facebook, instagram, tiktok, emails - whatever. You are more likely to see higher engagement when you show your face and connect with other people.
Next, you need to recognize that you are unique. There’s only one YOU! What you do and how you do it is different from everyone else in the world. And that’s special. You could be selling the exact same product as your next door neighbor, but you will do it differently because there’s only one way that you do it.
So capitalize on that. And realize that when you put yourself out there and show yourself you won’t be for everybody and that’s okay. Let me give you an example. Friday nights are usually pizza night at my house. My husband and I go all out and make the most delicious homemade pizzas. We have fun testing out new toppings and combinations. You could say we are pizza aficionados. Now, you might think that a pizza is a pizza…especially if it’s a delicious pizza. But of course, that’s not true. My husband will not touch a pizza that has pineapple on it. But I love that. There’s no convincing my husband that a pizza with pineapple is worth being made or eaten. And that’s okay. Because, while I know I’m in the minority here, I love a good pizza with ham and pineapple. And when I get the chance to eat that pizza, you’d better believe that’s the slice I go for.
Let me teach you how to do this. Head on over to britbennion.com/selfie.

The coaching industry is at an all time high. When you’re competing for clients, you need to make sure to stand out. Here are five tips to gain high paying coaching clients.
KNOW WHO YOU’RE TALKING TO
It’s vital that you know exactly who you are talking to. While you may know a lot about health and wellness, if you are a coach for someone who is trying to lose weight by counting macros, that’s completely different from a coach who is trying to help someone lose weight by training for their first 5K.
The same goes for someone who is a life coach. If you coach mothers of children who are on the spectrum, that will be very different from someone who coaches people who have gone through traumatic experiences. You may have the skill set to do both, but if you are trying to attract a client into your high ticket offer, you need to make sure you know exactly the type of person you are talking to.
This niching down may feel restrictive, but it’s actually very freeing. Once you understand exactly the type of person that you are working with, you can start to easily create content that relates to their situation.
When you get focused on who exactly it is that you’re talking to, you start to stand out as the authority in that field, which opens up many new opportunities for coaching clients.
SPEAK THEIR LANGUAGE
When you know who you’re talking to, you need to speak to them in a way that they understand and can connect with. For example, a fertility coach needs to know the special words and jargon that are used in that world - like TTC, which stands for trying to conceive, or BBT, which stands for Basal Body Temperature. Now, not all of them are acronyms, but to make my point, you need to use the words and language that your clients are using. This builds instant trust between you and your future client.
Coaching is a very high level practice. As a coach, you are able to remove yourself and see your client’s problem from a bird’s eye view. Many times this may mean that you are speaking to a solution and a conclusion that they haven’t arrived at yet. This causes a disconnect.
When you are creating content to attract a high level client, you want them to feel like you are inside of their head. Using their own language helps them to resonate better with what you say.
How do you find the language that your ideal client community is using? Here are three easy ways to do that:
Read the rest of the tips here.
Content creation burnout...we've all been there. Whether you need extra help, have major life experiences, or just not finding the joy in your business that you used to, burnout is real, and you're not alone.
Having a plan to overcome burnout is essential and I've got five ways to help you through a difficult time in your business.
Know Your Energy and Plan Your Week Accordingly
Just because somebody says you need to create content a certain way doesn't mean that it's going to work for you. If it works for one person, it doesn't work for everybody. Know and recognize your energy and then plan your week accordingly.
You may be someone who likes to sit down and get you content knocked out in one sitting. Or you might need to create content in the moment.
When you're aware of how you can best create content, plan your creation schedule around that. Block out chunks of time or give extra space to allow for moments of inspiration. Just don't try to force content creation into something that doesn't work for you, because that will cause resentment and burnout.
Prioritize Where You Create Content
We know that you have the ability to be everywhere, but doing this causes burnout.
If you're trying to be on all of the platforms all of the time, of course you're exhausted. So the best thing for you to do is focus on where you get the most traction and let everything else just trickle down.
I'll give you a little bit of an insight into how I create content and how I utilize this.
I choose one thing, the most important piece of content that I can create, and I go 100% all in on that. My podcast is my core piece of content. It's the most important thing that I create and it's something that I prioritize and make sure that I do every single week.
Because this is a bigger piece of content, I'm able to let the rest of the content that I create throughout the week and month trickle down from this one piece. I break it down, summarize, and pull quotes from this content and am able to make multiple pieces of similar content.
From my podcast I can create:
If I have to choose between making a Reel and producing a podcast, I prioritize my podcast.
Create Healthy Headspace Around Content Creation
When you have resistance to content creation it means that you need to change your mindset around it.
Maybe you need to sit down and think a couple of minutes about your "why". Why are you building a business? When you start thinking about your greater purpose, you are more able to create content from a place of abundance, not stress.
Having a healthy mindset around content creation you're better able to get into flow and your content connects better with your audience.
Use a Content Creation System
A content creation system helps you create content easier and faster. Having systems actually makes you use less brain space. You're using less energy because you're going through an already proven process.
Check out my FREE content creation system HERE.
Organize Your Content
Organize and catalog your content to see what is working for your business. A good baseline is to do organize your content every few months. Once you have a good understanding of your best content, you can use this to repurpose content. If you want to be known as an expert i

Marketing your business may seem scary or overwhelming. If you don’t have money set aside in your business budget for marketing, you may not be getting the type of traction you want. You may not be getting the number of clients or bookings you want.
Some businesses have HUGE sums of money set aside for marketing. Think of how much it costs to put in a commercial during the super bowl. MILLIONS, right?
It costs about 5 and a half million dollars to advertise a 30 second commercial in the superbowl. Now, nearly 100 million people view the super bowl, not to mention all of the people who come back after the fact, just to watch the commercials on YouTube. I know that I certainly do that. If we do some rough estimating….and I mean rough. It actually breaks down to spending about one dollar and getting 20-30 people viewing the commercial.
That doesn’t sound terrible right?
On a recent facebook ad campaign I ran, I calculated it out and found that my ad spend for nearly the same exposure was priced pretty similarly. I could reach about 30 people for 80 cents.
Fascinating. To think that I’m able to have the same budget spend ratio as someone who advertises in the Superbowl?
However, let's contrast that to what happened when I created content using my Brand Builder's Formula. I was able to create a 30 second commercial for myself and it was seen by over 3,000 people, that were mostly in the realm of my ideal community, for FREE. Then I did it again the next week, and the next week.
Even when I create a post for myself and it’s seen by 40 or 50 people, I can do it for free.
Having a marketing budget is amazing and it helps you to grow bigger faster, but if you aren’t utilizing the tools that you have right now for free, how will you ever be successful enough to even have a budget to pay for that growth?
This is where branding is the solution to market you and your business for free, vs spending any amount of money. If you have listened to episode 86, I talk about the 4 pillars of a stand out brand. I say this over and over again. When you build these pillars: Visibility, Vision, Visuals, and Viability, you are able to create a brand that attracts clients to YOU in your sleep. This is what I teach in Brand Builder’s Bootcamp.
Listen to the episode to hear two case studies.
If you are not a massive company with a HUGE budget for marketing, or even if you are, you have to understand fundamental principles I teach in my Brand Builder's Formula in order for you to get that next client and grow.
The advertising and marketing world has changed. We can’t just list an ad in the newspaper and expect people to come running. If you’re an online business, there’s not even a newspaper to do that in.
Social media advertisements, like Facebook ads, have evolved. When you are using Facebook Ads to market your business, you have to put into action a strategy. You still have to build your know, like, and trust factor. A single advertisement will not work. People see far too many advertisements and we’ve become numb to them. You must "woo" your next clients, you must provide them with value while positioning yourself as the expert. It’s a fine dance, but it will be the difference between endlessly putting content out there with no direction and getting nothing out of it and actually having a strategy that works for you and attracts clients in your sleep.
So how do you advertise and market yourself for free? You build a personal brand using the four pillars in the Brand Builder’s Formula. Visibility, Vision, Visuals, and Viability. It’s as simple as that.

Building a personal brand is the ONLY way that your business can grow and withstand the bumps in the road that always come with entrepreneurship. Many of us get into entrepreneurship because we have a bigger dream of what we want. Sitting behind a desk all day doesn’t cut it. Whether you started your own business because you wanted freedom, extra income, control over your life, or something else, I want to help you have the best chance of success and sustainability.
That’s why I teach the Brand Builder’s Formula. This formula consists of three 4 pillars that you need to have in your personal brand in order to build a business that will last.
If you’ve been in business for any length of time, you know that it’s not all roses. There are ups and downs. There are financial downturns and times when your creativity is in a rut. If you focus on building a strong brand, it will be the guide to get you out of those ruts. It will be the foundation to let you weather those downturns. More than any other thing you can do in your business.
So let’s learn about the four pillars of a stand out brand.
VISIBILITY
In order to have a personal brand, YOU need to be visible. This doesn’t mean that you need to always be dancing in instagram reels or tiktoks, but it does mean that when people are trying to make a purchasing decision between two products, and they know who you are, they are more likely to purchase from you.
VISION
You need to know not only who you are, but who you serve. That clarity brings about vision.
I recently did a poll on instagram where I asked if you would prefer for you to find more clients or for clients to find you. Every single one of you said that you would like clients to find you. You want to attract your ideal clients. You want clients knocking on your door, not the other way around. That’s awesome! I want the same thing.
If this is something you want for your business, it means that you need to have a clear vision of who you serve and how you serve them so that your ideal clients will come straight to you.
VISUALS
Your visuals can also be called the content that you create. You need to be creating visuals or content..REGULARLY. How can you expect anyone to find you if you don’t put things out there?
Using consistent visuals is vital to having longevity in your brand.
VIABILITY
If you want your brand to survive and thrive, you need to make sure that it lives. It needs to be viable. Which means that you have to have systems in place to allow it to be consistent.
So many of you are asking me “Brittany, why am I not growing? Why are my ideal clients not coming to me? Why am I not making the sales?” And very often this is the reason. You are not being consistent.
Each time I put a system in place that’s either automated or super simple to use, I get better results with my clients. When I batch my work or schedule in time to get the work done, I show up with a plan that gets me closer to my goals.
Viability is what gives your brand life.
I want to invite you to my FREE 3 day challenge where I deep dive into each of these pillars and how you can actually implement them into your business.

1) KNOW WHO YOU’RE SPEAKING TO
This one you may have heard before. You need to niche down, you need to know who your clients are, you need to understand who you are speaking to. And if you’re thinking, oh my gosh...I’m hearing this again. Well….it’s because you aren’t doing it!
If there’s one thing that I’ve learned in my years as an entrepreneur, it’s that if you keep hearing the same thing over and over again - you’d better pay attention.
Knowing who you’re speaking to is foundational to creating a strong personal brand. When you can get really crystal clear on who you’re speaking to, then you can connect to their wants, needs and problems.
And that leads into the next simple step
2) UNDERSTAND WHAT PROBLEM YOU SOLVE
This isn’t simply understanding what you do. Anyone can do that. If you’re a hairstylist, the problem you solve isn’t overgrown hair. If you’re a photographer, the problem you solve isn’t outdated pictures. If you’re a life coach, the problem you solve isn’t listening to your clients for an hour.
What you DO isn’t the same as the problem you solve.
The problem you solve is the transformation. HOW you do it is just the mechanics behind giving your client that transformation.
It’s a subtle but vital difference. I see so many business owners trying to grow their business on selling their service, but that doesn’t cut it. Especially in a digital world where there are a million other people doing the exact same thing.
If you are able to focus your brand messaging on the problem you solve, you are already 10 steps ahead of the majority of your competition.
The final simple step to build your personal brand is to be crystal clear.
3) BE CRYSTAL CLEAR
A confused customer doesn’t buy.
Someone who has never met you or seen what it is that you do should be able to figure out:
1) Who you serve and
2) How you solve their problem
in just a few short minutes. If that’s not happening, you’ve got some work to do.
Now this goes a little deeper than clarity. It also means that you need to be consistent. Clarity comes through consistency. And this is where having a formula, like the Brand Builder’s Formula, will give you the tools you need to know to create simple consistency in your business.
When you are able to know who you’re speaking to, understand what problem you solve, and be so crystal clear on those points that you become the only person your client can think of when they need help, you’ve taken 3 simple steps to build your personal brand.
If these ring true to you and you know that this is what you need in your business, join me in my course, Brand Builder’s Bootcamp. I’m opening doors - for the LAST time in 2021.

A personal brand statement is a 3 to 4 sentence statement that explains you and your brand. But it’s more than just a quick 30 second elevator pitch used to introduce yourself.
You may have done an exercise where you practiced what you would say if you walked into an elevator and only had 30 seconds to explain what it was you did for work. And that’s a great skill to have. It’s important to quickly and concisely explain who you are and what you do.
Here’s a direct example from indeed.com:
“Hi, my name is Sara. It’s so nice to meet you! I’m a PR manager, specializing in overseeing successful initiative launches from beginning to end. Along with my 7 years of professional experience, I recently received my MBA with a focus on consumer trust and retention. I find the work your PR team does to be innovating and refreshing—I’d love the opportunity to put my expertise to work for your company. Would you mind if I set up a quick call next week for us to talk about any upcoming opportunities on your team?”
Get it? You are telling someone what you do and kind of pitching your ideas or offer to them. But a personal brand statement goes deeper than that.
A personal branding statement is a guide to everything you do in your business.
A personal branding statement is what you will look back on and reference for everything you create. From content to offers, to articles, to social media, to podcasts, to what you wear and where you speak, who you network with and more. It’s THAT important.
Why do you need one?
So why do you even need one? Remember that I said a personal branding statement is a guide to everything you do in your business? This is different from just telling someone that you are a stylist or a designer. A personal branding statement showcases the personal aspect that you bring to what you do. It says who you are, what you do, who you serve, or what problem you solve, and what makes you unique.
A personal branding statement is your guiding compass.
If you don’t have one, you will probably make a wrong turn and then waste time scrambling to get back on the right road.
How many times have you said, “Yes” to a project or client that just didn’t work out for you? I know that I’m guilty of that. It makes everything you do so much harder because it isn’t in alignment with your mission and goal. But if you have a brand mission statement, you can always refer back to it to guide what you should say yes to, what you should say no to, what you create, what you offer, and how you serve.
Where to use one?
As an entrepreneur, you most likely aren’t sending out resumes to various corporations. That’s one place that many people think a personal branding statement should be used.
Instead, you will most likely be using it as a guide for what you are creating and offering in your products or services. You may even use it to introduce yourselves at networking events or meeting others to collaborate with. What about pitching yourself for a podcast or as a guest speaker at a summit or conference? This is a fast and easy way to grab the attention of people you want to work with. It’s a concise way to qualify if an opportunity is the right fit for you.
But the most important place to use a personal brand statement is in your daily business.
How do you create one?

What is the #1 thing stopping you from getting your branding photos done?
When I ask my audience this, a surprising number of you say that you want to lose 10 pounds before you get your photos done. Or some version of that:
We are living in a world that generally associates success with a certain look. However, we need to acknowledge that the overwhelming majority of people look nothing like that. Let’s break those stereotypes and start normalizing what we, as female entrepreneurs, actually look like.
But I do hear you. I see that you aren’t sure of this whole branding thing because you want to be that confident business owner and can’t get over that mental block - that you have to lose those stubborn pounds we’ve all gained during the pandemic in order to get your photos done.
So I’ve got a secret for you: You don’t have to actually lose those ten pounds in order to look like you’ve lost it in photos. Because these tips and tricks will help you in every aspect of your business. From branding photos to video to speaking engagements...even to your iphone selfies.
Let’s dive in.
Find Clothing That Fits and Complements You
You’d be surprised how an ill-fitting blouse or shapeless dress will add ten pounds to your image. While you may want to hide with outfits that are looser, I want you to start with something a little more fitted. V-necks or a long necklace are a great option to compliment your neckline and make you look leaner.
And don’t be afraid to use shapewear. It doesn’t matter what size or shape you are, shapewear helps your clothing lay better and lifts and tucks away everything.
Now if you want to slim up your figure, stay away from large patterns or horizontal stripes. Vertical is the way to go! Stick with solid colors or layer your clothing to add dimension to your outfit.
Focus on Your Posing
Posing does wonders to emphasize your best features and hide what you hate. So what techniques do you need to know to pose like a pro?
Whatever is closest to the camera looks bigger and whatever is further away looks smaller. I have wider hips and smaller shoulders, so I always push my hips back and my shoulders forward when taking pictures. A little lean isn't noticeable in the camera and keeps the focus on your face. I always tell my clients to give me a little hinge at the waist and it totally changes the look and feel of the image
Sit up straight and suck it in. A little bit of good posture does wonders...plus, it makes you look and feel more confident!
If it bends, try bending it. This breaks up your body from looking like a block and adds some "white space" around you. Hands on hips or a popped knee creates spaces between your body and helps your shape look more natural

Have you ever felt like you are competing in an oversaturated market? The problem isn’t that the market is oversaturated, it’s just that you’re still trying to fit in with everyone else doing the same thing as each other. You haven’t done anything different to make people start to notice you.
So what can you do to stand out?
Focus on what makes you unique
It may be hard to figure out what makes you unique when you don’t think you’re unique. But how much harder is it for your potential client to think you are unique when you’re doing everything the same as everyone else? SO HARD. I promise, you don’t want to make it hard for your clients to figure out what sets you apart.
If you’re struggling with this, ask your close family and friends. A little distance allows them a different perspective. Sometimes we don’t know what is unique about us because it comes so naturally to us. Think of things that come easily to you, because I guarantee that it doesn’t come that easily for everyone else.
No one can do what you do exactly like you do it. So let people know that you do things differently or that you have a strength that is well suited for what you do.
Infuse your personality into everything
You need to put the YOU into your brand.
Maybe you think that if you are a certain way that you’ll get more clients or people will like you better. All that does is keep your potential clients on the fence. They don’t like you enough to be dying to work with you and they don’t dislike you enough to move on.
The goal is to get them off of the fence. It doesn’t matter which way they go. Some will go one way and others will go the other way. But if everyone says on the fence, your business won’t go anywhere. That’s where you end up being stuck in the oversaturated market. That’s when people start competing with you over price. And you really don’t want that to happen.
So infuse your personality into everything. Some people will love you and some people will not. And that’s okay. I know plenty of people who can’t stand Beyonce, but you’d better believe that she couldn’t care less about them because there are so many people who know she is Queen B. And when people are off the fence you can really start to focus on serving the ones that are on your side of the fence.
The biggest reason you want to infuse your personality is that you can just be yourself. And that’s significantly less exhausting than trying to be someone else or suppressing who it is that you really are. Just show up as you!

Do you want to know how to make social media not suck the life out of you? When you are growing a business you hear all sorts of opinions about how you should be posting every single day or that if you don’t have a large enough following that you won’t be taken seriously, or that the algorithm is out to get you, so there’s no point in even trying. Trust me, I’ve heard it all. And honestly, you can throw all of that advice out the window.
After years and years of trying to crack the code, find the secret formula, and unravel the mysteries of social media, I’ve found that there is only one true trick.
Consistency.
Just be consistent. Consistency looks different for everyone and every industry. But if you truly want to gain traction on social media, then you need to be consistent.
We may think that because the “experts” say we should be posting every day, that we have to be perfect and never miss or we will have failed. And that just isn’t true.
You do need to be consistent. Because that builds trust. That builds connection. That builds the relationship that you want to have with your clients, customers, and audience.
When you are bouncing around, with no consistency, it will make it so much more difficult to establish those patterns on which we as human beings so heavily rely.
Have you ever signed up for someone’s email list and then never heard from them again? And then a year later, they all of a sudden send you an email? It’s jarring. It’s confusing. And if you’re like me, I immediately delete and unsubscribe. Because they don’t have my trust, they didn’t take the time to nurture and develop a relationship with me.
So, let me say this again. Consistency matters!
Here are 3 simple steps to being consistent on social media:
1. Know who you are talking to
Before you start off with creating bucket-loads of content, you need to be really clear about who you are talking to with your posts.
Before I sit down to do any batch work, I take a few minutes to refresh myself, or redefine who it is that I’m speaking to. I think about their wants and desires. I get really focused on my ideal community so that when I do get to writing, recording, or creating, they are top of mind.

Getting real honest with yourself about these questions allows you to see the holes in your processes and how to improve the client experience.

When someone lands on your "About Me" page they are looking for a reason to hire you - a reason to work specifically with you. So how can you do that and what pictures do you need to make your "About Me" page stand out from the competition?
1) Welcome the viewer into your space
When a potential client lands on your website and wants to learn more about you, they have some expectations when they click on "About Me". It’s like a new friend coming to your home and is about to ring the doorbell. They expect you to be the one to greet them at the door. They probably anticipate a friendly, “hello” or an invitation to come sit down and chat.
That’s exactly what you want your page to do for you.
You want to immediately show your face and welcome them into your world.
Imagine what it would be like if a neighbor knocked on your door, you cracked it open, stuck your hand out holding a sign with a paragraph of your life bio. Weird huh? That’s what so many people are doing when they forget to include a photo of themselves on their "About Me" page and think that a stanza on their life accomplishments is a good enough introduction.

Stepping into a brand photoshoot can be a very vulnerable experience. Getting all dolled up, staring into the lens of a camera, moving in awkward feeling poses. Not the easiest thing to do. But I spoke with my good friend and personal stylist, Swapna Patel, to give us the inside scoop on styling yourself for your personal branding session.
Swapna Patel is a New York City area-based personal stylist. She teaches female entrepreneurs to quit hiding behind their laptops in sweatpants, messy buns and confidently use their wardrobe as a tool to show up as the face of their brand.

It is Swapna’s firm belief that it is not what you wear, it is how you wear it! While she loves style, she is not a label junkie, something she prides herself on! Working with Swapna has saved her clients lots of money, boosted their confidence and some say it has even changed their life!
So what is Swapna’s take on what to wear for your next photo session? She says that you should start with what you already have. Many times you have everything that you need in your closet, but you just don’t know how to put them together. It’s always a good idea to bring in an element of “play” and “creativity” to your style.
Also, ask yourself: What are the finishing pieces I need to complete this look? Don’t always go for the exact same things that you wear every day. Mix it up and have fun. Because you can use your wardrobe and style to tell a story about who you are. It’s all a part of who you are as a personal brand.
But what if you think you don’t “have a personal style”? Swapna tells us that you need to think about your brand aesthetic because it very often mirrors your own personal style. Start with the descriptors that you are using in your brand. For example “modern” - head on over to Pinterest and start creating a vision board of what you like. Focus on the colors that pop out to you and incorporate those into your wardrobe.
Pinterest is an excellent resource for you to not only understand what your style is, it also helps you to know what isn’t your style. Allow yourself to grow and play. Try something new. Mix and match what you already have and add pieces that compliment what you already have. That’s what brings life to your style.
When you are planning for your photoshoot here are a few strategies to look and feel your best:

Ready to debunk personal branding myths that I hear all of the time? This is important for you to hear at any stage in your business journey, because they are the basis of personal branding that people mess up all the time. So let’s set the record straight today.
We are not robots….we are not machines….we are not the stepford wives...we are humans. Humans who run, own, and operate businesses.
The point in thinking of yourself as a brand isn’t that you create an alter-ego that you call your personal brand. It’s not that your personal brand all of a sudden is this super-human, polished, robotic persona of you. That’s all wrong. The actual point of a personal brand is to become authentic and intentional.
The best way to become more human in your brand is to know who you are and then accept that enough to tell your story.
Many people who are successful and are building personal brands are actually introverts. So how do we balance between showing up online and being an introvert? A lot of it has to do with boundaries and understanding where to draw the line.
The best example of this is Jenna Kutcher. She is the queen of batching and this is one way that she is able to be successful and an introvert -because she protects her time and energy.
This is not to say that extroverts have it easy. They certainly deal with many things as well, but just remember...if you happen to be an introvert, it doesn’t mean that you can’t have a successful personal brand.
This could be likes, followers, subscribers, downloads, anything. There is no magic number that you need to hit in order to be successful. In fact, you are the only one who gets to determine what success is for you. There are thousands of broke “influencers” and thousands of thriving businesses with small followings.
What matters most is finding what works for you and your brand. And this mostly means that you need to treat each and every follower with respect and understand that they are a human being, not a cash cow.
I’ve worked with many women entrepreneurs who have very small followings but generate multiple 6 figures and are living the lifestyle that they want. It’s because they’ve worked with me and understand that by getting clear on who they serve and how to best serve them, they can produce the results that they are promising and can generate the revenue that they need. And you can do the same. Start by serving who you have and stop focusing on the numbers. Your consistency and authenticity is going to get you to where you want to be far faster than if you focus solely on numbers.

Are you doing the same thing over and over in your business just not seeing the results that you want? Maybe you have found success. Maybe you have a viable offer. But what about growth? It’s something that we all seem to be chasing. Let's dive into what you need to understand in your business so that you can achieve growth.
If you’ve been following me on IG or are in my FB group, you may know that I'm about to move across the country. YES! It’s honestly a big deal for me and my family. Our house is filled with boxes and I’ve been sorting through what to keep and what to leave. This has been a pretty stressful time for us.
But this is a good move for us. Really good. I’m excited in so many ways. We’ve been preparing for this moment for years and everything we’ve done for the past 5 years has lead up to this moment.
Yet, despite all of this amazingness, there have been so many times that I’ve thought to myself:
“Maybe this isn’t a good idea.”
“This is going to be hard and your life is so good now, why do you want to change it?”
“Who knows what’s going to happen after you move? You’ll have to start all over again. It may not be as great.”
Now hold on a minute. Remember, I just told you that this move is great for my family. I KNOW this is the next step for us.
So why do I get these thoughts in my head?I have a mentor who once said to me:
“What got you here, won’t get you there.”
All of those crazy thoughts in my brain were telling me to stay where I was. To keep doing what I was doing. To play it safe.
Are you getting upset in your business because you keep doing the same thing over and over again and yet, you aren’t seeing any different results?
If you are stressed, worn out, or frustrated that you cannot get traction with booking more clients, it comes down to this one factor.
Understanding that what got you here won’t get you there.
So start by thinking about where you are today. Whether you have found success or are just starting out or somewhere in between. Now think about where you were last year and ask yourself:
"What have you done in a year’s time? Who have you served, what have you changed?"
A lot of times we fail to look back on what we’ve done to see where we’ve really come.
What have you done in the past 12 months? Have you grown? Do you know what steps you took to get you here? Have you kind of floundered? That’s okay, it’s not the end of the world. But what have you NOT done that has kept you where you are? What haven’t you done that has prevented you from having that growth that you want?
Let me give you an example of one of my clients. She and I were on a call about her business. She had laid out her current business model and what she was doing. Then she told me about where she WANTED to go and what she WANTED to do.
All of a sudden you could feel the energy in the conversation shift. She knew that growth was vital to get her to where she wanted to be. When I asked her why she wanted to work with me now and what motivated her to take action now, she said, "I know myself. And I’m scared to do this big thing. But I also know that I want to take my business to the next level. To grow. To make money. To live my passion. To do what I love. And I know that I can’t get there by doing what it is I’m currently doing.”
She KNEW that she had to make a change in her life and business if she wanted to get to the next level.
The same thing with me and move. I KNOW that doors and opportunities will be opened to me that I’ve never had before. And while I’m scared, I also know that I can

We talk a lot about how to improve your personal brand. But do you want to get an insider’s look on HOW getting clear on your branding can actually move the needle in your business? In this episode, we are deep diving into the experience of one of my students from the Brand Builder’s Bootcamp. So you can see the exact transformation that it made on her and her business.
When building a successful brand, what do you really need?
Community - A group of women who are building their business online who understand what you are going through and what you are trying to do. Trying to do it by yourself will lead to despair and frustration. You don’t need to do that. Working with like minded women and following a roadmap will eliminate the stress and overwhelm that causes you to not be consistent and show up for your audience.
Roadmap - You may know what you want your brand to look like, but you may not know the steps to get from Point A to Point B. If you are ready to jump in with both feet and have the path to get you there, you need the roadmap that is found in Brand Builder’s Bootcamp.
Mindset - Don’t be generic or worry about whether or not you’re doing it right. Understand that overcoming perfectionism is one of the best things that you can do for your business. People don’t need “perfect”. They just need the information that you put out into the world.
Putting up “B-” work is “A++++” compared to putting up nothing. Brand Builder’s Bootcamp is the key to stop getting stuck and to get out of the fear of creating content that connects with your ideal clients.
Chelsea was able to go from unsure and insecure in her new position as content manager, to confident, consistent, and self-assured. All because she had the exact roadmap to get her there. I have seen the change in Chelsea's and many other of my students' business.
I want the same thing for you - I'd like to welcome you to Brand Builder's Bootcamp. Just like Chelsea, you’ll be joining a community of women who are building their brand and business online. Women who want to scale and succeed. Women who are ready to go to the next level and feel confident that they have the tools to get there by attracting their ideal clients.

If you have a social media account, then you have one of these, but you may be using it the wrong way. Yes, we are talking all about profile pictures. I’m going to teach you the wrong and right way to create a killer profile picture.
If you've listened to Episode 69 “Create an Instagram Bio That Converts” or Episode 70 “3 Reasons to Stop Using LinkTree Right Now”, you know that I’ve been doing a series regarding getting your instagram up to snuff.
I had a discussion with one of my business girlfriends about picture profiles. She said, “Brittany….my biggest pet peeve is people’s picture profiles. Most businesses’ picture profiles are terrible. There’s got to be something that we can do.”
It sparked a conversation that I hadn’t really thought of before. In fact, many business owners don’t pay too much attention to it, but it’s super important to do.
So how can you up-level your picture profile?
1. Understand the Platform
You have to understand the platform that you’re working with and the device that people are viewing your image on. Did you know that a whopping 83% of all social media content is viewed from a mobile device.
You need to recognize that you are working with very little real estate. So that should be a driving factor for you when determining your photo for your profile picture. It is vital for you to make sure that your image fills the frame.
2. Show your Face
No more logos or photos of your cat or favorite social cause or children or anything else. When you are creating a personal brand, people need to connect with you. And that connection happens when you can look into someone’s eyes.
3. Have a Pleasant Look
Make sure that you look pleasant in your photo. You will come off as more approachable. A pleasant look on your face is sure to build connection that much faster.
*Now let me throw in a caveat. If your personal brand is 100% moody, artistic, or emotional, then you 100% need to have a photo like that. If you showed up with a super clean, perky, smiley photo….that would backfire on you. So please, make sure that it’s in line with your work and personal brand.
4. Look the Way Your Normally Look
Make sure that you look like your picture profile. This may mean that it’s time to update your photo. If someone were to sit down with you for a cup of coffee and then look you up on instagram, would you look the same or would they be confused? Remember, my favorite saying? A confused customer doesn’t buy.
5. Careful with the Filters
If you don’t know my honest opinion on filters, I’d like to invite you to listen to Episode 46: Should I Use Photo Filters. In a nutshell….steady….steady on the filters. They are usually hurting you more than helping you. And if you definitely want to use them, that’s okay. Just do it lightly...okay?
6. Stay Consistent Across All Platforms
Stay consistent with your picture profiles across all platforms. You need to understand how people are using social media. Most of the time, users will platform hop. You want to make it as easy as possible for them to find you no matter where you are. So keep your picture profiles consistent.
I’m excited to see what you end up doing with your picture profiles. Shoot me a DM on Instagram to show me what you've done!

Branding and marketing is more than just understanding your client and having the right colors. In fact, none of that matters if you aren’t consistently working on this one thing. Join me and my special guest, Stefanie Edward, as we dive into what is really holding you back in your business.
When you’re building a business, you can focus on so many things. From marketing, to product development, to collaborations and more. But it doesn’t matter if you have the best strategy or marketing team in place. If you don’t have the right mindset, you’re not going to go anywhere.
Mindset is what drives everything that you do in business and you have to take care of that brain space. Because ultimately, you are the one in the driver’s seat of your business. You are what sets your company apart from everyone else. If you are focused on negative or overwhelming thoughts, you won’t be in the place that you need to be to take action.
And everyone who owns a business deals with this. Don’t think for one moment that you are the only one who gets paralized by fear of going live or discouraged by a “failed” launch. Even the biggest and greatest out there have to take the time to manage their mindset.
Whatever you’re thinking about becomes your guiding compass. If you start off the day frustrated, tired, and angry, that will lead into the rest of your day and business. If you start off the day with gratitude and happiness, you will have a very different day. There isn’t anything wrong with either way. It’s just important that you are simply aware that you are in charge of your brain, rather than letting your brain drive you.
You get to choose what happens in your life by how you think about it. That doesn’t mean that everything is happy and roses. There are many times that we should feel challenged and frustrated. It’s okay. But having that awareness of what your brain is thinking is key. Being aware of the thoughts that you’re having and why you want to have it will change everything.
Check out the episode to hear Stefanie’s 3 tips to have you gain that awareness of your mindset.

Content isn’t just content. If you are a business owner, you’re not an influence. Your content is your marketing.
Looking at creating content from an internal point of view may build connection, but it doesn’t build a business. It’s not marketing.
Your biggest form of marketing is your content. Your content needs to not only attract people, but repel them.
If you are struggling to attract your ideal audience, it’s probably because you are afraid to repel the people who aren’t. To create captivating content, you need to get over that fear of repelling people.
You do this by being polarizing and taking a stand against the status quo in your industry.
Ask yourself: What is the status quo in my industry norm that I totally don’t agree with?
When you take a stand against this, it shows people who are struggling with this issue that YOU are the person for them. That’s what creates this magnetism, because you actually know what they are going through. You are showing that you are taking a stand against it.

Are you using Linktree in your Instagram Profile or anywhere else? It’s time for you to understand why that is hurting your business and brand. In today’s episode, I will teach you what’s wrong with doing this, and what you should be doing instead.
What is Linktree?
Linktree is a social website that allows you to easily create clickable links from a single page for your social media.
Linktree, or any other third party linking app, does a really good job of making it easy to send your audience to a single link and then let them explore a lot of offers or options. It’s the link that keeps giving.
So why should you stop using it?
Because it’s not helping you as much as you think it does and here are 3 reasons why:
Why it’s not helping you
When you have potential clients going to a linktree address you are missing out on valuable hits to your website. This affects your SEO rankings and so much more. Plus, you don’t have the chance to entice your audience to stay on your website and explore more.
In the free version of Linktree, you only have access to 5 different themes. And chances are, they don't align with your branding. At the end of the day, when you have been busting your tail off to have a curated look, brand, feel, and vibe, why would you throw that all away using the most important link on your instagram profile to direct people to some place other than your website?
Unless you’re willing to pay a monthly fee, you lose all of that valuable information that you would normally get if they had landed on your website. A website that you’re already paying for.
Linktree will only let you see the number of times someone clicked on your links. And they don’t even tell you which ones. That means you have no way of knowing which links are performing well unless you pay for the premium version.
Yes, you heard that right. Instagram doesn’t recognize lintree links as anything other than spam. This means that your links aren’t google searchable, but more importantly, if Instagram decides to shut down a linktree link, they can do it. Without your permission, without notice, anytime, anywhere. And if you’re like me, you’re not checking on the status of your IG bio link every day. Who knows when the link may have gone down or how many leads you might have lost because of this.
In fact, this happened just a few months ago. Linktree was involved in a data breach and instagram instantly shut down those links in people’s profiles. Trying to protect their own users, Instagram gave no warning, and many accounts were completely shut down. Not just that the link in their bio no longer worked, but that the entire instagram account and profile were flagged as compromised and shut down.
If your business is heavily dependent on your social media, why would you risk having everything you’ve worked for get taken away just because you wanted to use a linktree account? Now, I always advise my clients in Brand Builder’s Bootcamp that you shouldn’t build your entire business on IG, because you don’t own the users, followers, or app. And that means you have no control. It’s like building your business on a glass foundation. Something that I definitely wouldn’t recommend.
What you can do instead?
So what do you do instead? You can create your own social link page on your website. The premise behind what linktree does is fairly simple. It’s just a webpage that houses a bunch of

Your instagram bio is like a free billboard for your business. So if you just randomly put some stuff on there, you are missing out on an amazing opportunity to invite your ideal community into your circle. This episode is all about creating an instagram bio that converts.
Your instagram bio should serve 3 purposes:
If you don’t master your IG header, people will click away from your profile. If you try to jam in too much, viewers will get confused and then click away from your profile. We want to find that sweet spot where people can instantly get your vibe and have a desire to get to know you even more.
Profile Picture
The great debate that so many people are dealing with is what they should put as their profile picture. Do you do a logo or a photo of you? It’s an excellent question, and here’s my thoughts on this. If you are selling a product or have a storefront, I would suggest using your logo. If you are a personal brand, which most of you probably are, then you should use a photo of yourself. And not just any old photo. There’s a whole science to choosing a profile picture, and GUESS WHAT?! I’m doing a whole episode on this in a few weeks. But to give you the quick and dirty on this, use a photo of your face that makes you easily recognizable. Also, remember the devices that people use to view your profile picture. It’s tiny, and your profile picture isn’t clickable to enlarge, so you want to use an image that shows a good portion of your face.
Name
This seems like it would be a simple field to complete, but there is definitely some strategy that goes into what to put for your name. To start, make sure to include YOUR NAME, or if you’re a product brand, the name of that. But you also want to include a few niche keywords that describe who you are or what you do. Location is an important part to include if you are location dependent, so this is where you should include that. But remember, you only have 30 character spaces in order to do this, so make sure that you are using those characters wisely. It really helps you to think creatively and get super specific on who it is that you are serving.
So why is the name space so important? Because this field is part of a powerful search engine that is housed inside of instagram. And the more specific you can get, the better people can find you. Don’t gloss over crafting a name that helps you get found by your ideal clients. For example, if you are a photographer in Boston, you’ll want to have your name say something like: Anna|Boston Newborn Photographer
Or if you are a coach, you can put, Jill Smith, OH Financial Coach
Main Bio
The key to crafting your main bio is to keep it short and snappy. Meaning 3 lines only. Why? Because that’s all you get for space. There used to be a time when instagram would let you have a huge bio, but your bio would get hidden behind that dreaded “more” button. But because no one really ever clicks that button in order to read more, IG decided to get rid of that option. So now you are limited to 150 characters or 3 lines.
The main bio is meant to help people easily connect with you, see what you have to offer, and easily decide if they want to be in your inner circle.
Keeping it to three lines doesn’t mean that you need to jam a ton of information in there. It also doesn’t mean that you should waste space with a bunch of emojis. If you want to include an emoji, make sure to use it to your advantage, where it will easily convey a word or a message using only one of your precious character co

Do the words content marketing plan make you want to run the other way? Whether you love it, hate it, or don’t know what I’m talking about, stay with me. Because while it’s not the sexiest of topics, it should be a vital part of your business. I’m going to demystify what a content plan is and help you get on the way to saving time, money, and stress in your business.
Recently, a friend told me they had just been hired to work for a local business -running their social media on Instagram. They wanted to know: What do you need to do in order to be successful marketing on social media? There are so many places you could start. From IG bios to profile pictures, IGTV, Stories, Reels, Rooms, Hashtags, and more. The list goes on and on.
Where do you think is the best place to start if you want to build a solid business on social media?
Let's take it back to how you might be using social media in your business. Where are you spending the majority of your time? Are you:
Did any of those sound like you? Don’t worry. You’re not alone. My advice to this person wasn’t to sharpen their dance skills or make sure their grid made some intricate pattern. It was that they needed to have a content marketing plan in place.
If you’ve ever identified with one of those scenarios I just talked about, it’s probably because you didn’t have a content marketing plan.
What is a content marketing plan? It's a plan for the content that you create that allows you to have intention, purpose, and clarity. It makes it so that you can lead your customer on a journey and move from influencer to business.
Followers and likes won’t pay the bills. If you are spending time creating content for your social media and posting, then that costs you money. And if you don’t have a plan when it comes to your content, besides just making sure you post every now and then, you’re like a ship that has a bunch of holes in it. You don’t have a plan to make it from point A to point B and you’re doomed to sink somewhere in the middle.
Your content marketing plan is what will plug those holes in your social media plan so that you can stay afloat.
Content marketing is not a new thing. It’s been around for decades and is supposed to triple in the next 5 years. With over 94% of businesses implementing some form of social media use to try and increase their sales, it’s more important than ever to be intentional in the content that you create. Creating for creation’s sake isn’t good enough anymore.
Implementing a core strategy is what will set you apart in the sea of other people trying to sell, offer, or serve the same thing you do.
If you’re interested in learning how all of this works, including getting a sneak peek into my personal content workflow, then register for my free Content Marketing Plan Challenge.

Ever wonder how to get gorgeous photos from your smart phone? I mean, your phone was not cheap, and the majority of that cost is due to the awesome camera inside. So how do you get your pictures to turn out how you want them? That’s exactly what you’ll learn in this episode.
When it comes to editing, you can’t rely on it to fix your photos. It’s so much more important to get them right in camera. I teach all about this in Brand Builder’s Bootcamp, but for now, just know that it’s best to get a nice clean shot and then work from there.
When editing a photo on your phone use an editing app. The native apps are actually quite good, so if you are comfortable with that, everything that I’m going to tell you is available there. But if you want a little more versatility, try out one of these apps.
Lightroom
VSCO
Snapseed
There are a million other editors out there, so play around until you find out what you like best.
Here are the 5 steps to my editing workflow...
Check out the podcast for all the details on how these work.
So what if I’ve just scared you off from editing your photos and you are saying, “But Brittany...what If I just want to use a filter?” Well here’s the quick and dirty...
Filters can be awesome, but they’re easy to get wrong. When people use them, they tend to be the first and only stop in most people’s process. Which doesn’t really work. The problem is they aren’t smart, so they can’t read if your exposure is off, what the subject is, or what you want to accomplish.
For example, Instagram’s Juno filter will increase the contrast and vividness in your photo whether or not it needs it. If your photo already started out with high contrast, it’s going to look really bad. If you want to make a filter like that work for you, you need to hand edit the photo first and then apply the filter, compensating for the effects the filter is going to put on. And that all sounds like a lot of extra work to me.
Speaking of all of this work...why even edit your photos in the first place? Well because it can really do wonders for the image that you took. Editing is like putting the icing on the cake. It’s that final piece that pulls everything together, enhances the emotion, and creates a finished product.
But here’s the thing. Don’t over do it! While today’s phones are super powerful and truly amazing, the sensors are still a lot smaller than a full sized digital camera. It can only capture so much light and information when taking photos. The more you alter a smartphone image, the more the quality disintegrates. Remember my very first tip. Try to get it right in camera. You can’t save a bad photo with editing.

Flatlays are the biggest thing to hit visual marketing. Top brands in every industry are using them to promote their message and offers and you should too! In this episode I’m going to teach you how to create a unique, on brand flat lay so that you can stop using the same cliche stock photos everyone else is.
A flatlay is simply a photo of objects arranged on a flat surface, captured from directly above. Like a bird’s eye view. It’s a great way to showcase everything from the latest product you’re selling to what you had for breakfast.
Flatlays are powerful, eye-catching, and very trendy. While they are simple, don’t let them fool you. There are some things that you need to know before creating one. They need to tell a story, enhance your brand, or showcase an item. Before you grab your camera and start shooting, you’ll need to do a little prep.
Here are five questions to consider when planning out your flatlay:
So now that you’ve mapped out some of the details let’s get started!
Gather Your Props - Start out with the item that will be the main focus of your photo. This could be a product you are featuring, an upcoming new release, or something that you’ll be talking about on social media or your website.
Next you’ll want to find some props that will enhance your main subject. These additional props should help tell the story about what you are trying to create. Think about adding texture, movement, shadows, dimension, height, and more to create visual interest.
Finding The Right Background
Start by making sure your surface is clean and clutter free. Your background is an important part of the flatlay, so don’t neglect it. I recommend trying to stay away from reflective surfaces when you are first starting out. They are a little more tricky to work with. My favorite hack is a simple piece of white foam core. You can also spruce up what you already have by adding fabric or blankets. Just make sure they are nice and wrinkle-free. You’d be surprised how well a camera can pick up wrinkles! And once again, remember, you want your surface to be flat for the best results.

When you have your own business, it’s crucial to make sure that you are profitable! That means bringing in more clients. If you don’t have a clear personal brand, then listen up.
So what are the four ways that a clear personal brand will bring you more clients?
Think about when you go to make a purchase -dDo you trust everything that a product brand tells you? Perhaps if you have had a good experience with them, but otherwise you are more than likely going to ask a friend or a family member. When you have personal influence, people trust you more than anything else.
By nature, we as humans learn through story telling. Just think about children. We read them story books to teach them we aren’t reading them the encyclopedia.
So you want to make sure to include stories in such a way that invites your audience into your world. Whether that’s a challenge that you’ve overcome or a lesson you’ve learned, stories are the best way for you to connect with someone on a deeper level.
Do I need to repeat that? Who doesn’t want to competition proof their business? When you don’t have a personal brand to market yourself, then you are stuck competing on things price. And no wants to do that. You don’t want to be known as the person with the lowest prices.
Instead, create a personal brand and leverage your message so that you are speaking to your audience’s heart.
Now, I’m all about failure. I have embraced failure in my business because I see it as a tool for learning, growing, and challenging yourself. HOWEVER, I’m talking about your ability to pivot. This past year, we saw a MILLION different businesses having to pivot in order to stay afloat. But those types of things happen even without a once in a lifetime pandemic.
The ability to continue your personal journey even if your business changes or transforms is crucial. When you build a personal brand you have the luxury to be flexible and follow where your energy is taking you.
You’re using that momentum from everything that you’ve learned and putting it into something new or enhanced. What would it be like if every time you wanted to try something new, you had to stop your current business, close the doors, and restart from the beginning? That would be exhausting! Instead, a personal brand allows you to move and transition as your life needs to. Just make sure that you are still staying true to yourself and brand message for that pivot to be seamless.

We are finishing up this 4 part series on the essential pillars that you need for your brand. This is what I call the Brand Builder's Formula. If you are jumping in right now in the middle of this, that’s no problem, I just suggest that you also listen to episodes 60, 61 and 62 to learn more about the first three parts to creating a brand that stands out. In those episodes I teach you all about Visibility and Vision, and Visuals.
The first pillar that you need is Visibility. This is the mindset you need in order to create a business and brand that you love.
The second pillar is Vision. Your vision MUST encompass who you are and what you love and THEN speak to your ideal clients. Most industry leaders are totally skipping the part about understanding yourself first. But you can’t ignore yourself and the special part that you add to the business. Otherwise you’ll end up with burnout and resentment towards your audience.
The third pillar is Visuals. This is where you start to dig into the actual visual aspect of your brand. When you have the content in place, you can show up in a bigger way. But if you don’t have any visuals at all….then girl, you are missing out big time. Because this is the fastest and most impactful way for someone to connect with you. This is the easiest way to take someone on the know like and trust path.
The final pillar of the Brand Builder's Formula that will get you to that stand out brand is Viability.
If you are tired of 80 hour work weeks or spinning your wheels with nothing to show for it, you have a problem with the viability of your business. If you are burnt out and wondering if this whole "running a business" thing is all worth it....you need to address this pillar in your brand.
When you understand the viability of your business you focus on creating systems, not goals. Because your systems are what will get you to those goals. Your systems will create consistency and....
Consistency creates customers!
Listen to the episode to hear about the tools you can implement to create that consistency and a viable brand.

Did you know that the human brain of processes images 60,000 times faster than it does text? And 90% of the information that is transmitted to the brain is visual?
I don't know about you but if this doesn't tell you how important and fundamental it is to have visuals in your business I do not know what will. If you want to connect with more people if you want to grow your business if you want to seen as an industry Authority then you 100% must focus on the visual aspect of your business.
Because if you don't have content to put out into the world and of course nobody is going to see you.
Think about all of the ways in which we use visuals in our business. We use them in our social media we use them to show what different products we have we use them to show the experience that they will have when they work with you. But most important is that we show you and who you are.
WHAT ARE Visual Elements:
WHERE to Use Them:
WHY You Should Use Them:
Your brand creates an experience. It's the first meeting that somebody has with you. The first interactions with a potential client. They need to have an experience when they see your visuals. Remember:
Changing visuals all the time creates confusion
Doing what everyone else is doing makes you bland
I want you to do a self audit. I love self audits. It’s one of the best things to you can do work ON your business instead of IN your business. Do a self audit of your visuals. Are they outdated? Are they all over the place? Are you even doing them? And then commit to getting your stuff put together.
You have to have the mindset to know that creating a personal brand is the best thing you can do for your business. Next, you have to need to know who you are, how you want to connect to others and WHO you want to connect to. Then you can create visuals that will connect them to you in a consistent way and build trust. All of this helping your audience become not just a customer, but a raving fan.

If you are feeling burnt out, or you’re being inconsistent, you may have a problem in the vision in your business.
When I hear the word vision, I think a lot about the future. When we create a vision board, or speak about our vision, it usually means that we are thinking about what is to come.
But that’s only one side of the coin. If you don’t take time to examine what you are bringing to the table and what experiences you’ve had in the past, you are only looking at half of the equation.
Vision in your business is the same thing. There are two parts to it.
1) The vision that you have for yourself
2) The vision that you have of your customers
So where do we start?
I want you to get really clear on who you are as a person. The key is authenticity. It’s who you are as a person. Which is why personal brands work. When you start to hide who it is that you are, you are cutting off the essential energy that makes you the very best person to do what it is you need to do.
The next step is to get clear on who you are serving.
A lot of times this is where people get stuck. I’ve been taught over and over again that you need to have ONE person in mind when you are working on who you are serving and your offer. And too many times that is determined by demographics statistics.
When determining the audience that you speak to or serve, you should focus on their value systems as a community and how it relates to your industry. In portrait photography, it doesn’t matter what color a person’s hair is, but that may be different for someone in a different industry, where that’s very important. Such as a stylist or wig maker.
This removes that block that you cannot serve a wide range of people. Treat your audience as a community with like minded values, not the same shoe size.
It’s important to fall in love with who you are wanting to serve. Do the work to understand them. You do need to know things about them. This is where that connection is made. What do they like, what are they passionate about, what do they spend their time doing? This is far more important.
To start getting really clear on your brand vision, ask yourself these four questions:
1) How do you want to identify as a brand?
2) How do you want to show up visually in your brand?
3) Who are you serving?
4) Why are you the best person to serve them?

It's time to go from overlooked entrepreneur to high impact CEO.
In order to do this you need these four things in your brand:
VISIBILITY, VISION, VISUALS, and VIABILITY
When these four pillars work in alignment it will allow you to be seen, get noticed and create impact.
Let's chat about Visibility.
Visibility isn't just WHAT you see, it's WHY you are being seen (or choosing not to be seen).
Because when I’m talking about visibility. I’m talking about taking it ALL the way back to you.
You are at the core of your personal brand. If there wasn’t a YOU….there wouldn’t be a brand. Visibility is all about human connection. If you want your brand to be remembered you need to show that there is a human behind it. And this means getting really crystal clear on what it is that is causing you a block in this. What is stopping you from showing up visually? I’m talking about literally showing your face in your business.
Many times it’s because you don’t feel enough of something. Perhaps you don’t feel smart enough or pretty enough or well known enough.
Have you ever said this to yourself? I will start being consistent with my business when I have 10,000 followers. Or when I’ve made X amount of dollars. Or I will create that podcast when I’ve been featured in Forbes.
It's time to stop thinking that you have to wait until you HAVE the things before you DO the things.
Instead you need to BE then DO so you can HAVE.
Figure out the shift you need to make in your mind in order to be a stand out CEO. In order to show up in the way that you need to.
So I want you to ask yourself:

Your brand is the vehicle that drives your business. In your entrepreneurial journey, you need to have a reliable vehicle to take you from where you are to where you want to be. If you want to go places this year, then you had better get your vehicle in tip top shape to take you there.
And here’s why you should do that.
Getting crystal clear with your personal brand helps you show up authentically.
When you know who you are, you can stop wasting time being inauthentic. That's not the type of energy that you want to bring to your business and your brand. Start by accepting who you are and the unique contribution you have to bring to the world.
Clarity in your personal brand is the roadmap that shows you where to go.
When we take the time to look at where we started and where we are now, we really can see all of the steps, work, and progress that we've made. That's such a good motivator for ourselves and for our businesses. Having a vision for your business and where you want to take it - helps you to make it through the difficult times that happen to all entrepreneurs.
Personal branding helps you know what to say and when to say it.
If you are having problems coming up with content, then you have a problem with one of two things. 1) You don’t have a clear vision of who you are as a brand. 2)You don’t have a clear vision of who you are serving as a brand. When you do the work to figure this out, then what you have to say in your posts, captions, lives, emails, and more….all becomes second nature.
A clear personal brand helps you to stand out from the crowd. In my own business journey, I really needed to figure out what was true to me. And that starts with having a vision. If you are trying to serve everyone because you aren't clear about who you are and who you serve you will never stand out from the noise of your competitors.
My business has doubled year after year because I finally gained the clarity that I needed and had the vision for myself. This is because I allowed myself to fully stand out from the masses who all looked and sounded the same.
So why can’t you afford NOT to get clear on your brand this year?

Stephanie is an amazing businesswoman who is slowly taking on the world one reel at a time. And guys, I’m not even joking with this. Pretty much any instagram reel she creates is gold. Stephanie has gone viral again and again and again, doubling and then tripling her following, but more importantly her revenue!
Stephanie is a business coach for creatives entrepreneurs and host of the Dream Makers Podcast. One of her greatest passions is helping women make their dreams on their heart a reality by teaching sales and marketing in a fun and exciting way! Stephanie currently lives in a small town in Idaho with her husband and 3 kids.
So how do you create a viral reel? Here are 3 hot tips:
Just start doing instagram reels
Instagram’s algorithm is going to play in your favor. Your grid and stories only have a shelf life of 24 hours. A reel’s shelf life is 3 weeks! If you are going to create great content, make sure to invest time in a reel that will have a much longer life.
Reels are seen by people who are following AND people who aren’t following you. Even if you use hashtags or not
Produce a combination of entertaining and relatable content
Allows people to be entertained and connects with your audience. Grab a notebook and write in it throughout the day in order to come up with relatable content.
Continue to create content that positions you as the expert so that as people find you they can see that you are an expert and decide to follow you.
They find you because you are relatable, but stay with you because you provide value.
Look at your data
Understand what your people are connecting with and what is attracting more people into your audience.
What are people commenting on, or tagging? When are your reels “peaking”? Focus on this information to schedule and plan your content so that you can take advantage of when your people are engaging.
This allows you to produce content that is relevant and stays fresh in the algorithm’s feed.
If you want to learn more about Instagram Reels or any of the courses that Stephanie has to offer, remember, check her out at www.stephanieannbagley.com. She has just released a mini course all about instagram reels. So if you think that you got some amazing tips here, just wait until you see what is in her mini course.

If you are looking to create a brand that is impactful, if you are ready to take the fast track from being invisible to visible, you’re going to have to face these truths. I see these mistakes being made ALL the time and really want to help make sure that you aren’t falling into these traps - these mistakes.
So here we go:
Not recognizing that PB is for you
Personal branding is the fastest way you can reach your business goals because you are creating a connection with people who will become your biggest fans and pay you money.
Pretending to be someone else
Authenticity is the name of the game with personal branding.
Underestimating the time it takes to build a strong brand
Building a brand isn't going to happen overnight. That mindset will make you a one-hit wonder, and no one wants that label.
Not creating original content
Are you creating something that is original to you or are you just regurgitating other people’s content?
Not being consistent
Your personal brand should allow you to easily be consistent. When you have a brand strategy, you are not reinventing the wheel every time you are putting out a new product or showing up on social media. You have a strategy that allows you to be consistent.
Getting vanity followers
If you think that having "X" number of followers will get you anywhere, you’re wrong. As Jasmine Star says, “Build a business on the back of social media, don’t build a business on social media.” You can be just as successful with a thousand followers as you can with 10 thousand followers.
Not having a brand strategy
Strategy doesn’t mean difficult. Strategy means ease and consistency. If you don’t have a brand strategy, I’m here to help you.
Focusing on quantity, not quality
Quality is far superior to quality because it will set you as an industry leader.
Not understanding your numbers/analytics
Your analytics are the secret sauce to getting more traction. Whatever platform you are on, dive into your numbers to know what is resonating with your clients. If you follow the numbers, you’ll grow your business.
Not sharing your story
Sharing your story is the easiest and fastest way to create deep connections with people who will eventually buy anything that you sell!
Ignoring videos or personal photos
Videos and personal photos show your processes and behind the scenes. It brings people along your journey and allows them to connect with you in a new way.
You’re hiding behind your screen
Showing your face is the cornerstone of building a personal brand. Whether it’s your website, social media, network feeds, or email - people need to see your face. Stop hiding behind your screen.
If you are like, “Yes, Brittany, I’m definitely making some of these mistakes!” that’s okay! Remember, we need to make mistakes so that we can course correct. We can make the changes to drive better traffic and engagement to our business. Turn these mistakes or failures into your successes!

Your personal branding is a living thing. It will change - you will grow. Branding isn't meant to be one size fits all. Once you know the basics behind branding and marketing, everything gets easier. You can update and grow your brand, but the principles behind what you’re doing don’t change.
I recommend that you take time once a quarter to review your branding. Here are 5 fast and easy ways to develop your brand.
KNOW WHO YOU ARE
Get comfortable with regularly assessing yourself and your needs. Ask questions like:
DEFINE YOUR AUDIENCE
Knowing who you are serving in your brand is key. I go deep into this in episode 50.
Who you serve changes. People get older, opinions change, technology changes, countries, laws, social agendas change. So many things are shifting. If you haven’t revisited this one in a while, might I suggest that you do.
How do you define your audience? You can use data to define your audience, such as age, gender and location. But I suggest using personas to identify your audience. This includes things such as personal characteristics, lifestyles, morals and values, interests, engagement in social media networks and more.
RESEARCH AND UNDERSTAND INDUSTRY LEADERS
Do some solid research into what successful people in your field are doing. Examine what they are doing and why they are doing it. Then determine where you fit in. Can you serve in a different way?
Listen to the way they speak, how they show up. If everyone is saying the same thing and looking the same way, you can have the advantage of having a different point of view.
But DO NOT COPY. #notcool.
EMBRACE NETWORKING
Networking is about making connections. Connections where you can learn and grow. Connections where you can teach and serve. Connections where you can increase your opportunities and connections where you can provide better opportunities for your clients.
Networking is an excellent way to open doors that you may have thought would never be opened.
REMEMBER THAT YOUR PERSONAL BRAND ISN’T JUST ONLINE
Your online brand is vital, but it’s equally important to make sure that you are building a consistent brand offline as well.
Because you are a human being behind that computer screen or iphone. What are you doing in your daily life, at home, in the office, on your commute? What systems do you have in place that help work towards and create your brand?
Building brand authority comes from authenticity and people will be able to see through you if you choose to live a life that is inauthentic to your brand. That connection that you want to create with your audience will never be a powerful force if you choose to live a life offline that isn’t consistent online.

Why should you create a personal brand?
#1 It makes you stand out from the crowd.
Your brand is your online resume and first impressions are so important. You want to make sure to be intentional about what a person is going to think and understand about you in the first few seconds of interacting with you. You want to see what it is about you that is different and makes you stand out. Something that attracts people to you.
As you are working on creating a brand, you need to get really clear on what it is that makes you stand out from the crowd. And by showing up with a professional, put together brand you are going to have that immediate edge.
#2 It builds trust with your audience.
There’s been a huge shift in advertising and marketing over the past decade. Consumers have a built-in distrust of large companies and there’s this huge push to shop small. This is why influencer advertising is so successful. As you build your brand, make sure you are building trust with your audience. Showing your face is such an important aspect of this. It’s in our human nature to trust people who we see often. You’re much more likely to trust a person that you see and interact with.
I think about the business journeys of the women that I’ve worked one on one with. They see exponential growth once they start to show up consistently and with images of themselves because they are directly building trust with their audience.
#3 It leads to opportunities for you. When you develop your personal brand, you are showing others that you take yourself seriously and that they should too. It shows that you are in this for the long haul. You’re willing to take the time to invest in yourself and your business and they should too. This leads to speaking engagements, networking opportunities, partnerships, collaborations, and more. If you want others to take your business seriously, then you need to start by doing that yourself.
Building your brand isn’t some elusive thing that is difficult and costs thousands of dollars. You can start building it right now. And in fact you should be building it right now. One of my Brand Builder’s Bootcamp students said this, “If I would have known what Brittany teaches when I first started my business, it would have saved me so much money and so many headaches.”
There’s a simple way to do business. There’s a simple way to grow your business. Branding isn’t meant to be complicated. It’s meant to bring consistency. And consistency comes from creating a straightforward foundation that you can easily build everything else on.
Your personal brand is the foundation for your offers, your messaging, your products, your social media posts, your email campaigns, your advertisements, everything.
If you haven’t fully committed to creating the brand that is perfect for you, I want you to commit. I want you to think about wrapping up 2020 and seeing what 2021 has in store for you. Is this the year that you will take control of your business? Is this the year that you won’t be frustrated by what to post on social media? Is this the year that you’ll set out to make yourself known for something. It’s time to put a stake in the ground. I know you can do it. And I’m here to help you along the way.

Ikigai is a Japanese term that means "A Reason for Being". What is your reason for being? And how can you incorporate that into your personal brand? What do you bring to the world that is so uniquely you and creates your brand?
Let's start by asking ourselves some important questions:
1) What are you good at?
This can be easy AND this can be hard. Think of what everybody else is constantly saying about you. Or even better, ASK the people who know you best what they think you are good at. Sometimes, what you are hardest on yourself about, you are actually pretty good at.
2) What do you love?
What is it that lights you up? Is it a hobby or a dream that you have? If I gifted you a whole day, all to yourself, what would you do?
Now take a moment and look at your two lists. At the intersection of what you’re good at and what you love is your passion. Who doesn’t love discovering or reaffirming what they are passionate at? Can you circle or draw connections between things on your first list and things on your second? This is a good insight into what you are passionate about.
3) What does the world need?
I’m talking both big and small. This can be something on a global scale or a simple daily annoyance that needs attention. Maybe the world needs more laughter….it definitely needs more love and healing. What do YOU think the world needs?
Just like there was an intersection between what you’re good at what you love, there is also an intersection between what you love and what the world needs. This is called your Mission.
4) What can you be paid for?
You are creating a business and that means that you need to make money. The more money you make, the bigger impact you can have and the greater good you can bring to the world. What would someone pay good money to have? This is the question that every entrepreneur asks. The better you get at answering this question, the more likely you are to be successful.
At the crossroads of this question, what can you be paid for and what you’re good at is your profession, and at the crossroads of what you can be paid for and what the world needs is your vocation.
What if you were able to find something where all of these places overlapped? Where you could be good at what you’re doing, help the world, love the work you do and finally get paid for it? This is your Ikigai. This is your reason for being.
This should be the center of everything for your personal brand.
If you want to find success, this is the work that you need to do. Maybe you’ve looked over your lists and thought, Great! This is validation that I’m doing exactly what I want and need to do. Then good for you. Keep moving in the right direction. Keep aligning yourself that way. But maybe you looked at your lists and they are nothing like what you’re doing. This is what’s keeping you stuck. You may not feel like you are mission driven. Your WHY isn’t big enough to keep you going. Or perhaps you aren’t loving what you do. Maybe at one point you thought it was for you, but now it’s time to make a serious pivot. How to Tell a Story with your Personal Brand Photos
Great personal brand photos are so much more than good-looking headshots. They tell the entire story of you and your brand through images. They capture your personality and help bring your entire personal brand together. They help your clients and customers know who you are, what you can offer, and why they should hire you — all with just a glance.
How can you make sure your personal brand photos tell a powerful story? Here are a few key things you’ll need to do:
Know your story
It’s really tricky to tell a story you don’t already know by heart. Before you book your personal brand photoshoot, do your homework. Think about who you are and what you have to give. Identify the traits that make you unique. Then, write it all down. Don’t be afraid to dig deep!
Think about your target audience
Now that you know what you want to say, think about who you want to speak to. Imagine your dream client. You should know him or her intimately — everything from favorite brands, preferred colors, fears, dreams, favorite pizza toppings, etc. Share these details with your photographer so you can plan your photoshoot and your storytelling around them.
Discuss with your photographer
You’re not the only storyteller here. You and your photographer should be on the exact same page every step of the way. Have a consultation with your photographer before the day of the shoot to go over your vision and your goals.
Dress the part
On the day of the photoshoot, wear clothes that communicate your personality & fit your narrative. Of course, you will want to look your best — but that doesn’t mean you have to dress all prim and proper if that’s not your persona!
And action!
Get photos of you in action in order to literally tell the story of what you do! Don’t leave it to your clients to just picture it. Consider bringing along props or taking photos in your usual workspace for some powerful visuals.
As long as you follow these top personal brand photoshoot tips, you’ll be so much more than a pretty face in front of that camera — you’ll come across as a smart, capable, friendly professional with a story to tell and so much to give.

Let's make sure you are speaking to the right people with your messaging.
So for many years, I was taught that in order to know who you serve, you needed to create an ideal client avatar. This meant picking just ONE single person to speak to. That perfect person who needed exactly what you had to offer. And then you needed to tailor your message to fit just them. Of course, in order to do this you need to know their height, weight, eye color, hair color, how many kids they had, etc.
When you can get really crystal clear on speaking to ONE person, then you can connect to their wants, needs and problems. And provide a solution to that.
Unfortunately, I would always get stuck when working on my ICA, and I know and have worked with dozens of women who felt the same way. This type of characterization has never resonated with me.
When you are trying to build out an Ideal Client Avatar, you are limiting yourself to such a specific person….possibly for NOT the right reasons.
Creating an ICA had me focusing on aspects that didn’t REALLY matter to me or my industry.
In this day and age, especially with the societal issues that are at the forefront of our nation, I want you to get really clear about what attributes are important for you in your business.
Instead of creating an ideal client avatar, I want you to create an ideal client community. A community is built not on one specific person. It’s literally a community of people. It allows you to stop limiting who you are speaking to...especially from a diversity standpoint, and instead connects you to people who share the same values, morals, and ideals.
Do not focus on what an ideal client LOOKS like, but rather, what their dreams and values are. What their behaviors are, what they care about.
When you map out an ICA physical attributes so specifically, you leave yourself open to discrimination.
An Ideal Client community solves that problem. For example, if a financial advisor builds an Ideal client community that serves families that cared about saving for the future, building a nest-egg for their children, and living debt free….she could 100% cater her messaging to a very specific set of people. But it also wouldn’t matter if a family came in that was Christian, Musulim, or Atheist. It wouldn't matter if they walk in on their own or were a wheelchair user.
This answers all of my problems. Because when you start to focus on the right characteristics of your ideal client community, you are no longer stuck in the minutia of what they look like and instead focus on who they are on the inside.

When you invest time and money into a session, you want every aspect of it to reflect you, your brand, and your message. And the location plays a big part of that.
So I want to tell you a few options that you may have when you are looking for a location to shoot at. Let this episode help get those creative wheels turning so that you can go out there and rock your next session.
Remember, you shouldn’t do anything in your business and brand without having intention behind it. And it’s really easier than it sounds. You want to make sure that you are considering the message that you are sending wherever you are taking your images.
Perhaps you have a gorgeous home with amazing lighting and it looks like Joanna Gaines just finished up decorating it. Do you do your session there? Well...it depends. Just because you have a great space doesn’t mean that you should use it.
When choosing a location ask yourself the following questions:
So why do we ask if this is consistent with your brand? Well...because that’s what branding is all about….consistency. Now that doesn’t mean that you can only take branding photos in the same place every single time. It just means that you want to have the same feel, the same vibe as your brand in all of your messages and locations. If you were a travel blogger and talked about all of these amazing travel tips and adventures you were on, but you decided to hold your branding session at the library or your home, that wouldn’t really be consistent with your brand.
And then, does this compliment the intention I have behind my message? Once again, you don’t want to confuse your audience with your branding photos and location really plays into this. If you are a personal trainer, and only have photos of you sitting behind a desk, that’s not going to compliment your message. If you never have photos of you in the gym or working out at home or on the go, it’s going to be much harder for you to connect with your ideal clients.
So let’s talk about a few places that you can look for when searching for a location for your branding session.
I want to hear from you about what YOUR favorite location is. Connect with me on instagram or our Facebook Community.

How do I brand myself when I have two different businesses? Do I have a personal brand, and a business brand or just one?
Now this is an excellent question. And many of you out there have your businesses set up like this. Especially if you are a service based business. For example, if you are an agency that trains copywriters, but you also do that yourself….do you have one brand for everything, or do you have two separate brands. What if you are a fitness instructor and gym owner. You want people to come to your gym because it’s good for the gym, but you also want people to sign up for your specific classes. So what do you do?
Let’s go back to that copywriter as an example. Let’s say that you are a copywriter that takes on individual clients, but you also have a copywriting agency, where you hire or contract out other copywriters. You essentially have two businesses, right? So do you keep those two brands the same or separate them out?
There are two different ways to go about it and it all depends on the goals you have in your business.
One option is to separate out your brands. This means that you have a brand that works and fits for you as a personal brand and one that fits for your agency. This works out really well if you have two distinct feels to your brand or your marketing to two different clientele. Perhaps your agency is marketing to a wider range of people, and then they can choose which copywriter best aligns with their needs. If you have two separate brands, you can more easily hone in on the type of people you want to attract and work with directly, and still have a steady increase of customers to your agency.
This also works well if you don’t particularly feel attached to your agency’s brand. It gives you a little more freedom between the two brands.
Your other option is to keep them together. This works really well if you started out building a personal brand and people come to you because of YOU. It’s okay to still have an agency, but you will be building the brand as you and as you attract people to you, they will trust you to take care of them by either working directly with them or fitting them to someone who will be best for their needs. Does that make sense? Think about the fitness industry, for example. You can follow the brand 24 hour fitness, and you can also follow the brand of an instructor there. Those are two separate brands. I’m sure at one point in time the original owner of 24 hour fitness actually taught there. On the flip side, you can have a fitness brand like Tracey Anderson. Tracey Anderson builds her brand and business around her and people come to her business for her, but then she has many fitness trainers under her that use her methods and train like her. In fact, they are just an extension of her brand.
So which one will work best for you? Once again, it all comes down to the goals you have in your business. If you want some autonomy, then break them out, if you know that the best part about your business is you, then keep them together. If you want to expand and franchize, it’s easier to do that with two separate brands. If you have serious name recognition, use that to your advantage. Don’t forget the added workload it takes to manage two separate brands. That might be a determining factor for you.
There’s no wrong way to do it. Just get intentional about why you’re doing it!

There are a million ways to measure a conversion. Conversions are where we want our potential clients and audience to take action and interact with us in a way that’s good for our business. Conversions are one of the ultimate goals that we have as entrepreneurs.
90% of the information that our brain receives and processes is visual. The other 10% is through our other senses. Our brain is a visual consuming machine. Plus it processes visuals 60 thousand times faster than text.
We remember images better, which is why visual platforms such as instagram, pinterest, and snapchat are so popular and can pull someone in for extended periods of time. With visuals you are able to create a captivated audience quickly.
Talia Wolf says, “Images are the best way to convey feelings that drive conversions.” And I couldn’t agree more.
I’m going to reference this awesome article I was reading by Jacob McMillan where he talks about different examples of high converting imagery. He is a conversion specialist and copywriter and was able to test out a number of different techniques that you can use in your photos to increase conversion.
1. Show Those Pearly Whites in Your Hero Image (episode 42)
If you want to increase conversion, then make sure you are smiling in your hero image. People are attracted to faces and especially connect with people who are smiling. Make sure that you have a nice, welcoming smile for your hero image.
I talk about this all of the time. Real photos, meaning photos that include you, your process, your people, your items will always outperform stock photos. Well...as long as they are high quality images. That’s not to say that there isn’t a real need and space for stock photos. I talk all about that in episode 30. But when you are using real photos, you’ll see your conversion drastically improve. This has happened to every single one of my clients. That’s the magic of branding.
I had one client increase their instagram engagement over 400% in the first week after using branded photos of herself. This is so important, which is why I’ll say it over and over again.
McMillian says that by doing this you are creating the perfect marriage of words and images. And it works! This is the strategy that sweat block.com used. They made sure that both copy and their hero image was in alignment and they increased conversions by 108%.
If you want more information on how to do this, check out episode 6 of the Posed for Success podcast.
Now that you’ve got all of this useful information inside of your head, go back through your website or your most recent social media posts. Check out the images you’re using in your facebook ads or email campaigns. Are there places where you can implement these tools to increase your conversion? I’m always about doing a self-audit, and this is a great place to start. If you are looking to uplevel your conversions, if you are ready to take on more clients, if you want to make more sales, start with your imagery. I guarantee that by doing a little tweaking, by making improvements in this area, it is going to drastically improve your business.

What is a digital filter? A digital filter is a code or set of rules that you apply to your photo that makes adjustments to it, such as saturation, contrast, and color temperature. But when you use a filter, it’s much easier than that. In fact, most filters just have a name that you click and it changes the look of your photo. Filters can be found in just about every photo editing app, including the native photo app for your phone.
So why would you use a filter? Many times people use filters as a quick way to get an edited look on their photo. In fact, I’ll even use a filter every now and then to give my photo a quick boost.
But I’m going to say some things on this episode that are going to have a bit of a dissenting viewpoint from most people. I’m going to say that you need to void filters as much as possible.
Now hold on...I’m not saying DON’T EVER USE THEM. I’m saying be cautious when you use them. Because just like men’s drug store cologne a little bit goes a long ways and it usually isn’t attractive.
What I’m mostly referring to are those instagram feeds that look like every single picture was taken with the exact same 4 or 5 hues or colors. It was a super trendy thing to do….like 2 years ago. And in the world of digital marketing that feels like a century ago.
So I suggest that if you want to have an IG feed that looks good for a LONG time, then you avoid them. I was just looking at one and the photos were all orange and teal. But the photos were SO edited that it was incredibly off-putting. Everyone’s skin looked like an oompa loompa and the grass in another photo, which is normally supposed to be , you know...green, was so desaturated that it looked like the picture was taken on another planet.
Now what was the purpose of this? So that it can fit in your feed? So it can be on brand? Yeah….maybe. But you have to understand how your consumers are consuming your posts. Are they only looking at your 9 grid so they understand that you are keeping everything the same? Or are they scrolling and going to wonder what the crap had just happened to that photo?
That’s the kind of filtering I’m talking about.
What I’m suggesting is that you keep to well lit, normal colored looking images. If you want to have a cohesive look to your brand, bring those colors in by what you’re wearing, the stock images your using, and the branded photos you include. Don’t do it by trying some after market filter that looks like your 3 year old got a hold of your phone and jacked up all of your editing sliders.
Simple is best. Let the image and copy do the persuading.
Now, if you’re saying, but BRITTANY….everyone who does this mega filtering trick has tens of thousands of followers. To this I say….it’s not the filter. It’s that they are playing the long term game. They have been at it a while and are CONSISTENT. THAT’s what’s bringing in the followers more than anything else.
If you don’t believe….give it a test. Post overly filtered photos at the rate you are regularly posting for 2 weeks and see what your metrics are. And then try posting high quality (NATURAL) looking photos for 10 days straight with great copy and see what happens to your metrics.
I’d be interested in learning what happens. But I have a feeling I already know.

This episode is probably going to be one of my favorite episodes. I’m going to talk to you about 4 lessons to learn about being an entrepreneur. But these stories all come from a mini entrepreneur….well maybe not mini, because it features stories of my oldest son, Matt who is just a quarter inch shy of being as tall as I am.
Matt is 12 and a BORN entrepreneur. This kid could sell you trash from the bottom of his locker….which he has, and I’ll tell you about now. If you’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting Matt, you know that he is an ideas guy. He loves designing things and figuring out how things work. He loves people and he is FAST. Like the Flash fast. In just about everything he does. And super action oriented.
So it’s easy to say that he has a lot of qualities that great entrepreneurs have. So let me tell you a crazy story about this kid and how it’s going to help your brand.
Make sure to tune in to hear all of the fun.
So here are some lessons that we can learn from Matthew in this situation.
And I’d love to hear from you. Did you like this episode? Do you want to hear more stories like this? What are you loving and what do you want to leave? Leave me a review or drop me a line. You can find all of this information in the show notes at britbennion.com/episode45

Today we are going to be talking about using angles to get better photos. Did you know that the angle that you take a photo with can make it look completely different? Yeah, pretty crazy, but when you know these simple tricks, it can make a world of a difference. An angle is essentially the positioning of the camera to a subject. Think back to 2nd grade math. You learned all about angles when you were learning about shapes. I specifically remember all of the rules you learn with triangles. I always thought that was fun. You learned about the angle from point A to point B and it was pretty simple.
The same goes for photography, but we are dealing in a 3D space. So you have to think about up and down and side to side and now you have a ton of different options. Now technically there’s a difference between camera position and camera angle, but because I’m not teaching a technical photography class in this 5 min episode, I’m just going to lump it all into angling so that you can digest it all a little easier….you’re welcome.
So when you are getting ready to take a picture, and I’m talking specifically about a picture of a person, because that’s usually what we are dealing with branding, there’s two rules I want you to keep in mind.
It’s pretty simple.
If you shoot a photo from a high angle, meaning that your angling the camera down slightly, pointing towards your subject, you’ve got a bit of a bird’s eye view. When done carefully, this creates a very flattering image for your subject. Think about all of the teenages taking selfies out there. You always see them holding a phone up high and shooting down. This is for that reason. Now I feel like they usually take it to the extreme, but that’s another topic entirely.
When you shoot from a higher angle you allow your eyes to open up bigger, avoid that double chin and aren’t shooting up your nose. Shooting with a slightly downward angle is great for portraiture.
If you shoot a photo from a low angle, you get a different look entirely. You can get super extreme and shoot from the ground up. This brings out an intensity to a photo. You get a lot of depth when you do this. I rarely shoot from a lower angle for a close up or portrait shot unless I’m shooting for a specific reason. If you take a less extreme angle and shoot just slightly below the eyeline, and point it up, it makes your subject look bigger. It creates a feel of power and intimidation. This works really well when you are in a power pose or trying to convey that type of a message. Play around with this. It’s a lot of fun.
And then there’s straight on. I know this may not seem like an angle, but I know you passed 2nd grade, so you know it is. So straight on is when you are shooting right at eye level. This is a great angle to shoot at and probably what you are most used to. And that’s not coincidental. When you are shooting at eye level or directly on, it creates a sense of security in the images. It has a natural, familiar feel, so you are more likely to shoot from this perspective.
So play around with it. Use these rules to improve the photo and message behind it. Remember, I’m always saying that you need to have intention behind your photos. Yes, it’s nice to have pretty photos, but you want photos that convert, so test out your camera angles to create a powerful message behind your images.
That’s all for this bonus episode. See you soon!

Visuals are vital to your business. And in this day and age, everyone needs to have an online presence. I recommend that this is a website. When you start talking to a new person about your product, they will probably ask for your website. Even before asking for a business card. But if they ask for a business card, you’d better have a website listed on it. And when I say website, I’m talking about a personalized website. I’m not talking about the company website. So if you sell thirty one bags, you need a website for YOU. Not just the main site with you listed as the host seller. DOes that make sense? Because why would your potential audience want to buy something from you versus their aunt who also sells it. You want a website that connects that person to you. Where you can show who you are as a person and why this product can change their life.
And one single image isn’t going to do that. You want your image over and over again. In marketing, we are told that you need to be introduced to a concept or a product or an offering at least 7 times before someone is willing to make a purchase or before that trust is created between you and your client. So why are you making it more difficult for your audience by not showing your face? By not being the first person that pops up in their heads when they need a service?
I was working with a woman the other day and she said that she was having the hardest time selling her service. She works in the wellness and energy healing field. But she was so confused that people weren’t booking her. She said, “well everyone was saying that I needed a website, so I got a website.” So now she has a website and was looking to get a headshot. She just needed one picture of her on the site. “Then,” she said, “her clients would start to book her because they knew who she was.
WRONG!
She was on the right track, but there’s no single headshot that is going to make it so that strangers on the street are going to book you. Sorry. That’s the hard and fast truth. You need more images. And the more of them that have YOU in it, the better.
So I asked her, “How are you showing what it is you do to your potential clients?” And she said that she hired an expensive copywriter to write up this complicated process to try and explain how exactly everything worked, and as she was telling me, my eyes started to glaze over and confusion set in. If she couldn’t convince ME, who was talking directly to her, how was a website, no matter how amazing the copy is going to do that for a half interested party?
“What you do is complicated,” I told her. “And confused clients, don’t buy. You need to show them exactly what you do and how you do it.” Your client needs to feel like they picture themselves in that image, working with you. That will be worth more than a million words by the best of copywriters.
Here are the 10 images you need for your website
1.Classic head and shoulders headshot of you smiling and looking at the camera
Overall image of your workspace
Full-body image of you in your work environment
Images of you doing your service
Flat lay images of items that you work with
Details of your workflow

What makes a good hero image. So if you had a chance to listen to last week’s podcast, I talk to you all about how you can use your brand images once you have them. And I specifically talked about creating and finding your HERO image. Now unless you are a web designer or marketer, you might be scratching your head when I say the term Hero image. So let me briefly recap.
A hero image is the single, big, eye catching image that is the first thing that pops up on a website. You can find it in any industry and it really sets your website apart. It generally fills the entire width of the screen. Many times you’ll see text or a call to action button overlaid on top of it. Now why do we like a hero image? Well...because when done right it can help immediately draw your viewer into your site and keep them there longer. That’s really what we want to do….drive traffic to our website, but then have them stay on there as long as possible. We want them to explore, learn, and connect. Whether that’s through a purchase, booking an appointment or a discovery call, right?
The average viewer decides in less than 3 seconds whether or not to navigate off of a webpage, so that’s ALL the time you have to engage them. A whole bunch of text or a small, pixelated image, or a Video that takes forever to load isn’t going to do you any good and chances are they will just nativate off of your site before they can even figure out what it is you do. A quick caveat. Video on your site is extremely valuable. It just has to be done in the right way. I’m not going to go into that now, but just like a crappy photo, crappy video is going to hurt you more than help you.
So what makes a stellar hero image? 3 Things.
You want your image to POP, connect immediately with the viewer, and provide that quick burst of information letting them know that they are exactly in the right place. If you are a personal brand, it had better be a huge picture of you and your face. And I always suggest having your face looking directly at the camera. Your viewers will connect with you when they see your eyes, so it’s super important to have you looking at them.
If you are NOT a personal brand, then you want to make that connection in a different way. You want to showcase the outcome, transformation or lifestyle that someone will achieve by interacting with your brand.
Always make sure that your photo is high quality. That means good light, good composition, and correctly sized for web. You don’t want it to take forever to load or that defeats the purpose and you don’t want it to look crappy so that people think you don’t take your business seriously.
Make sure that your hero image is something that people can instantly recognize what it is that you do or sell. Or make sure to add eye catching text to reinforce that.
Okay….if you’re looking for a great example of this, head on over to my website at brittanybennionphotography.com You can check out my hero image and see what these are all about. Once you understand this, you’re going to start seeing hero images all around and really understand the purpose behind them.

When I work with my personal brand photography clients, I’ve heard heartbreaking stories of them having their photos taken previously but then they never ended up using them.
When you are spending the time, energy, effort, and money to get your branding photos done, then you 100% want to make sure that you are using them.
You can learn more about Intentional Content Creation, and about what it takes to prepare yourself for your session BEFORE the camera starts clicking.
But what do you do with your photos AFTER you have them? Let's learn 5 different ways to use your personal branding photos.
What is a hero image? In the brand and design world, a hero image is the term for a large, eye catching image that usually is prominently displayed underneath the navigation bar on your website. If you want to see an example of a hero image, check out my website at www.brittanybennionphotography.com It’s right there.
Be SUPER creative on your about me page and have multiple images on it. Keep them professional looking, but if you have some fun, personal ones then add them. Don’t just stick to a headshot that looks like you’re the newest real estate agent at Keller Williams. Get creative, laugh, have fun with this one.
In our digital world, you want to take your client on a visual journey. Show exactly what it’s like to work with you. Think about your onboarding process. Really break it down. What images can you use to help your future client envision themselves working with you? This builds your know, like, and trust factor so that they are more likely to convert.
These are images of you pointing or making a face full of emotion. I talk about these kinds of images in more detail on episode 32: Why you need goofy photos in your business. So dig into that episode for all sorts of ideas. But even if you don’t have images of you with a bunch of white space where you can shout to the world that you’re having a BOGO sale, that’s okay. I’m sure you can find images that use can use as a workaround. Get creative. I know you can do it!
I always recommend either having the exact same profile picture across all of your platforms (or at least a photos from the same series across your platforms). You don’t want your clients wasting any brain space trying to decide if you are the same person on Instagram as you are on Tik Tok or LinkedIn or Facebook. Let’s make it easy for them. It may not fulfill your creative juices, but the consistency is what we’re going for.
As for your social media feeds, I want to make sure you have at least 1-2 photos of you in your 9-grid on instagram or in the 3 most recent posts on FB and LinkedIn.
So let’s recap. Here are the 5 ways to use your branding photos

What does it mean to repost a picture? Well….to break it down SUPER simply….when you put a picture up one, it means you’ve posted a picture. If you put it up again….we’ll you’ve reposted it. It really is that simple.
I give you that definition because I don’t want you to get confused with reposting OTHER people’s content. That’s when you take content (whether or not you have permission) from another person’s content and repost it on your feed or site.
There are some times when it’s okay to repost other people’s content. In fact, many people WANT you to do this because it increases their reach. And YOU will probably want to have people repost YOUR material because it allows you to grow your audience. But I want you to make sure that you never repost material as your own or use it in places that aren’t acceptable or legal. Got it? Deal!
Reposting isn't just about putting up the same image from IG to Facebook, Or to mass schedule a piece of content to be released across all platforms….twitter, facebook, instagram, linkedIn, TikTok, all at once.
Let’s talk about reposting the same image of you multiple times on the same platform. For example, using the same image over again in your instagram feed.
The first time that I saw someone do this I was confused….mostly because I thought that they were cheating. I mean, if you are building a visual brand, then you should have new, updated images and never repeat an old image, right?
Wrong. Dead Wrong.
This wasn’t a bad strategy….in fact it’s a great strategy and let me tell you why. The power behind branding comes with brand recognition and brand recognition is built on repetition.
In copywriting, you hear that you should repeat your messaging over and over again. The same thing applies to your images. You can use the same image over and over and over again.
But not all at once, or posting the same picture every single week. Use your discretion with this. But don’t be afraid to use an image of you in multiple places - multiple times. All this does is reinforce your consistency and branding. In fact, it will help you to show up because it removes the barrier that a lot of us face with knowing what to post or having something to post.
Now this may be a dissenting view from others out there, and I get it, because I used to think that too. But remember, if only 10% of your audience sees a piece of your content on any given day, and they need to see it at least 7 times in order for it to stick, you’ve got a lot of opportunities to share that piece of content, even photos over and over again.
One way to share the same photo over again is with your social media profile picture. I suggest having the same profile picture across all of your social media platforms, or at least make sure that your images are so on-brand that they are SCREAMING that it’s you. Because then people will connect you across those platforms. Then they aren’t trying to hunt and peck to find out where they can find you on a different site or platform. In the same way that it’s great to have continuity with your names, you can do the same with your photo. While you may feel like you’re sick of using the same photo, your audience won’t be. It will actually help them build confidence and recognition in your brand.
So go ahead and start posting. If you have a picture that you love, or that converted really well, give it a few weeks and then post it again. Update it with valuable, relative, timely content, but add it to your image and go from there. Whether it’s a blog post, instagram post, article content, or anything else, you can repost your images.
Remember, smart marketing isn’t a

How to discover your niche and what steps you can take to get really clear on this.
You might be saying, I already have a business so I don’t need to know who or what my niche is. But before you turn this off, I want you to listen because I’ve worked with SO many entrepreneurs and every single one of them has benefited from talking through this with me.
Because your niche doesn’t always stay the same. Your business is growing, changing, evolving and so should you.
So, whether you are just brand new and trying to figure out your niche, or you’ve been at this a while and need to reevaluate or hone in a little more, I want you to go through these three steps.
1. Ask yourself: What talents or skills am I good at? What do I enjoy doing? What will people pay for?
**2. Narrow it down
Now if you want to dive even deeper, I recommend picking up a book called Choose by Ryan Leveque. He goes through a process what he calls the single most important decision before you start your business and walks you through how to really get clear on who and how you serve someone.
Niche now doesn’t not mean niche forever.
The most successful companies start out niche and expand from there, once they have the leverage to test out new products and services. You will too, but having a core offering is what will allow you the stability to do that.

A brand is a way to market yourself, service, or product in a way that connects directly with your ideal clients.
Do you get nervous or stressed when you hear the word marketing? Do you want to run and hide when you think of having to be salesly and pushy about what it is you do?
This is where branding can save you. Branding is the easiest, simplest way to market yourself and service without feeling stressed, overwhelmed, sleezy or slimy.
Because when we talk about branding….we are talking about building an experience for the perfect customer to have when they interact with you or your company.
I’m talking about a more holistic approach to who you are as a company, what you provide, how you provide that, and the feelings, emotions, and overall experience that are connected to everything.
So how do you create an awesome brand experience for your clients?
My purpose is to help women entrepreneurs grow a successful business by having the confidence to show up visually for their brand. I feel deeply about women finding success in their businesses and I feel very deeply that you are perfect just the way you are and by showing up authentically, you can make a difference in the lives of others.
So everything that I do, everything that I create is centered in that one purpose.
Next is to tell a story. This is where you get to draw your clients in. Let them get to know you. Let them get to know the kinds of people you work with. We, as humans, learn and remember best when we have been told a story. When you connect your product or service to your ideal clients through story, they will internalize it and connect it on a bigger level than they would otherwise.
Next is to be consistent. By being consistent, you build up that strong loyalty base that you need to create the foundation of your business.
Finally, make sure that you are putting customer experiences before sales. Make the experience of working with your client or offering an amazing product and customer experience your number one priority. This will create customers for life that turn into raving fans.
So let’s review quickly. To create an amazing brand experience you need to:
This is just scratching the surface of building your brand to serve your clients and create a business and life that you love. If you want to dig into this and really start to see the results, you have got to join me in the Brand Builder’s Bootcamp. Doors are closing in a week and you DON’T want to miss out on this experience. If you are ready to make the change in your business so that you start to get seen by the right clients and customers, if you want to relieve the headache and pressure of what to post and where to post and how to connect with your customers, if you want a roadmap that will allow you to double your business over and over again, like I have, then run….don’t walk….run over to brittanybennionphotography.com/brandbuildersbootcamp for all of the details.

This episode is the Ultimate Guide to Instagram Reels. I’m wondering...have any of you had a chance to explore Instagram’s new feature? I spent the past week doing just that and have had such amazing results that I had to share with you. Not only has my own instagram engagement increased over 700%, but I had a Reel go viral with over 8K views in one day.
So here’s what you need to knowReels is Instagram’s version of Tik-Toc and consists of short, 15 second video clips. You can add music, pictures, video, and graphics to make your Reel fun and engaging.
You can record and edit the 15 second video right inside of Instagram and then share them to your stories, feed, and the new Reels tab.
You don’t have to dance or act crazy. Ask yourself, how can I use this for my business?
So if you haven’t explored Reels yet, then you need to hear the quick and dirty of how to use it.
You can find the reels option in one of two ways. Either by swiping right from your IG home page or clicking the camera in the upper left corner of your IG home feed. At the bottom you’ll see the option to create a live, story or REEL!
Scroll to the Reel feature and you’ll see four unique options pop up on the left side of the screen. A music note, speed icon, effects feature, and timer.
Let me break these down for you.
IG has made it easy for you, so when creating your reel, start from the top and go down to the bottom, using what you want and leaving the rest.

How you can use Reels in your business
Video is all the rage and all social media outlets prioritize video. So if you haven’t been creating videos, it’s a great time to jump in and explore.
Instagram reels allows you to create content that is fun, authentic and connects you to your audience.
Reels are fast, easy, fun and full of quick content. They don’t require a lot of time to create, but you can really get your point across so your audience is more likely to engage with you on the video. And engagement is the name of the game for Instagram.
Now I’m all about being intentional with your content, and IG Reels is no different. So here are a few ways in which you can use IG Reels for your business.
*bullet points
*teach a lesson
*Show behind the scenes
*Style a popular dance or Reel in your own way that’s specific to your industry
Use quotes, words, speak, images. Teach and educate.
As always, don’t reinvent the wheel when creating new content. Repurpose your content for reels. Use those tips that you talked about in your last blog and create a fun reel with you pointing at new tips or tricks you want to teach. Educate with images or entertain with a new twist on popular videos. The options are endless.
But like I said before, Instagram is rewarding early adopters and you can really see you engagement grow by jumping in now.

Are you finding yourself now working from home and are afraid of going crazy? Especially if you have kids that are doing virtual learning?
Many of you have to adjust your lifestyle in order to work from home because of pandemic. This is something we can all relate to and connect with.
I have worked from home exclusively for over a decade now. So when Covid-19 hit and businesses were shutting down, it didn't bother me because I've had years of experience in this.
So if you're stressed or feeling like you don't know how this is going to work out, I'm here to hold your hand to give you some of my best tips and advice on how to get through this.
1) Set Boundaries
One of the very best ways for you to be able to build your personal brand while working at home is to have a designated place in which you are working.
Anyone can do this. I've got 5 kids and we live in a tiny, million year old apartment. If I can do it, so can you. And the more I talk about how to navigate a space for you to do work in the more stories I hear from people who are making it work in itty bitty places.
Create an office oasis. Even if this means throwing some paint up on your wall or hanging up your dream board. Make it a space that makes you happy so that when you go to work you can show up happy and working.
Then let your family know that this is a non-negotiable: if you are working in or sitting at your spot (even if it's a little space on the couch) then that means you're working. You're not "momming" or meal planning or doing X Y and Z. This is where you are getting your work done.
2) Time Block
I actually learned this technique from Jordan Page. She is a mommy blogger, has eight children and works from home in a very successful business. All because she time blocks.
Essentially, you are assigning certain tasks to certain times of the day. All which flow in a natural pattern. This increases your productivity because you aren't multi-tasking and you can deep dive for a set amount of time. Then when you are done, you are done and focus your time and energy on something else.
For example, in my "morning block" I always set aside 2 hours of work. This way I know I'm accomplishing some serious work before the day gets away from me.
I would encourage you to work on blocking out your time and realize the natural patterns that you have in your week and keep those the same because then you're going to increase your productivity around your business and family life.
3) Batch Work
Batch working is doing the same type of repetitive work in one sitting so that you can increase your productivity rather than breaking it up across the week or month.
Think about the things you do on a regular basis with your personal brand and business. Can you group them all together and batch it?
Once you start to think of ways in which you can batch work, you actually free up time to do the things you love and enjoy.

In our visual world, it can be easy to have self-doubt within it comes to posting about yourself or your services online.
Building up confidence in yourself allows your customers to do the same.
Here are four daily rituals that you can do to build confidence in yourself and business.
1) MOVE YOUR BODY
Most people don’t equate exercise or moving your body with doing better in your business. For many years I thought that it was counterproductive for me to take time for myself to exercise because I thought that I should have been working on my business.
Instead, when you move your body, you are able to change your perspective, mind and energy.
You don't need to do anything crazy - walking, stretching, yoga. Just move your body. This will help you clear your mind and open you up to more productivity and confidence in your business.
2) GET DRESSED
When you choose to get dressed everyday and show up for work then your confidence is going to skyrocket.
While sweats may sound super comfy, if you are serious about your business, you need to reflect that in your self care.
When you show that you care for your self, your clients and customers will be more willing to invest in you.
3) SURROUND YOURSELF WITH PEOPLE WHO BOOST YOU UP
You are the average of the 5 people that you spend the most time with. This is so true when it comes to building your business and gaining confidence.
When you start to up level the people you spend time with you will up level your life and business.
4) LEARN SOMETHING NEW EACH DAY
Strive to learn something new each day. By doing this and willing to change your mindset about learning and growth, you'll be more confident in trying new things. This leads to innovation and growth in your business.

After hearing from so many of you, I'd like to address a huge problem. Because when it comes to building your business and brand, or social media, website and taking pictures... when it comes to stepping out of your comfort zone and reaching for your BIG GOALS with your BIG IDEAS….one of your biggest problems is confidence.
Perhaps you feel like an imposter. Even after you've had years honing your craft or experience that no one can replicate. YOU think that you aren’t ready. YOU think that you are good enough. YOU think that you won’t make it.
And that’s okay. Because you aren’t alone. I feel it EVERY.SINGLE.DAY. You hear it from people who are just starting out, people who have found great success, people who are industry leaders, and more.
It’s that lovely little voice in our head that tells us we aren’t good enough or we need to have more experience. So what can we do to combat that?
Power Pose
What does that even mean?
It looks like standing tall, hands on my hips, chest out and head up high for about 5 minutes.
This may sound a little "woo woo" for you? I promise, it’s not. Because whenever we feel scared, it’s biologically in our nature to try and make ourselves smaller. And that sends signals to our brain to be in flight mode.
How do you think you’ll show up for that next sales call or that next client meeting if everything in your body is telling you to be small and run away?
So instead, you can try this mind hack to trick your body into sending signals to your brain that you are confident.
It’s really that simple.
In 2012, Harvard Business School Professor, Amy Cuddy, came out with a TED talk about this very topic that went viral.
Here are some examples where Power Posing will help:
Right before a job interview
Preparing for a television interview
Before a presentation
Before a sales call
Prior to a client or shareholders meeting
Before trying something new
I want you to try this before YOUR next photo session. Whether that’s with a professional photographer or your bestie. If you struggle AT ALL with confidence before getting in front of the camera. I PROMISE…..pinky promise that this will be a game changer for you.
Take some time and practice your power pose. It doesn’t have to be perfect and it doesn’t have to look like Wonder Woman. Sometimes I raise my hands high in the air and spread my feet apart and just get as big as I possibly can.
Because when you face anything with that level of new found confidence, there’s NO stopping you.

Have you ever thought of adding a silly photo to your photo session? Or are you someone who likes to stick to the regular "smile at the camera" or "fake laugh" poses?
What do I mean by goofy photos? Not bloopers, but actual intentional photos that are out of the norm.
The best way to do this is to ask yourself the following questions:
What frustrations do my clients have?Tune into what it is that your clients are frustrated by and try to channel that frustration in your photos. It will help your client to connect more with you because they SEE that you understand them.
What wins or successes do I want my clients to experience?
What if what you have to offer your clients is LIFE CHANGING? You want to generate some excitement around that. So how would you show that in pictures.
Your clients will feed off of your energy and want to experience that excitement.
What are the needs of my clients? This is another question that you’ve probably asked yourself as you’ve built and grown your business. I mean...that’s why you have a service to offer. How can you connect to the needs of your clients?
What makes me, ME?
This one is a bit different than the rest because it’s about YOU, rather than your client. You want your clients to get to know you and connect with you. Create images that really reflect what it is that makes you unique.
So don’t be afraid. Make sure to add some of these fun and goofy photos to your photo sessions. They will really connect you to your clients and they will set you apart from the millions of other offers out there. Try it. I guarantee you will be happy with the results.

Learn this one technique from certified coach, Becky Mollenkamp, to get unstuck from your life and business. Becky teaches us about how having a gratitude mindset can help you build an abundance mindset. "By having gratitude, you are shifting out of a scarcity mindset and towards a mindset full of abundance."
We can take this type of advice and apply it to our businesses whatever we are going through, especially when it comes to the pandemic that so many of us are being highly affected by.
In order to shift your mindset to go to gratitude, it’s a tiny shift. All it takes is a breather and to understand that we only have control over this single moment in time. It helps you to feel right and aligns with your values. It takes away the regret of living in the past or the anxiety of living in the future.
This causes us to make decisions out of desperation which will never be good for our lives or business. We need to be in the moment and know what we truly value in order to move forward.
Here are some simple, but not necessarily easy steps we can take to help our mindse

Have you ever wondered what the big deal is with personal branding photos? I mean, can’t you just use stock photos and then you don’t have to worry about getting in front of the camera? Well...today we get to hear from an amazing photographer and I’m so glad to call my friend, fellow branding photographer Amy Lyn.
Amy Lyn is a commercial and brand photographer working hard to help brands stand out from their competition. She and her team have had the privilege of photographing for brands like Little Tikes and Smuckers and lots of smaller businesses too.
After fifteen years in the business, Amy still loves custom photography for her clients, but she has added stock photography as well for those who can’t afford or don’t need all custom photographs.
So the cool thing about Amy is that she not only does custom photography, but she has an amazing site for stock photography and she is going to help us understand a little more about how these two types of photography can work well in your business. Let’s dive in.
There’s a great balance between custom and stock photography. Most benefit from using both kinds of images.
We live in a visual world and people are purchasing based on your photographs. Especially if there are great photographs associated with it. Using proper photos will allow you to feel and look professional. Great lighting and styling is key.
Your photo is the hook that draws your clients into your message. That’s what will stop them before they begin to read your copy. If you have an excellent photo it will set you apart from your competitors.
You’ll want custom photography if you are selling a product. It will showcase the product and be very specific to you. If you are selling a service, you might be able to get away with more stock photography.
Find out more about how to be intentional with your images to find out what will work best for you and your business.

There’s a ton of people out there who still don’t quite know what personal branding is. So let me call it by a name that you may be more familiar with.
Headshots.
What comes to your mind when you hear the word Headshot?
It may be that you are thinking of the 80 style headshot studios where there’s just one single pose and everyone looks the same in their pant suit with the same pose and studio lighting and you attach it to your resume or business card. Am I right? I know that’s what I always think about when I hear headshots.
When deciding what type of headshot you need, ask yourself these questions:
What Am I Doing?
How Am I Doing This?
Why Do I Need These Images?
Who Am I Serving? / Who Am I Talking To?
So let's talk about the three types of Headshots you need to know about!

Emily is the Owner and Chief Email Marketer of Flourish & Grit: An Email Marketing and Automation Studio. Emily honors the grit it takes to get through this world, appreciating ways to work smarter, not harder.
She believes that email marketing has the power to move the revenue needle through automating messaging to the right person at the right time. It’s the hidden marketing powerhouse that often goes overlooked.
You’ll typically find Emily with a cup of coffee in hand because #momlife. When her head isn’t in her laptop, you can find her chasing her toddler, reading a book or binging trashy TV.
Learning email marketing has never been easy and Emily McGuire has all of the tips you need to uplevel your email game.
To begin, we need to understand the difference between social media and email marketing. Social media is outbound marketing where you actively seek new customers and as a way to get noticed. Email is inbound marketing, where you can grab future customer’s attention, and nurture them.
Email takes your customer on a journey, from the awareness stage to nurturing to becoming a customer to becoming a repeat customer.
With social media, you do not own your audience. You are subject to the platform that you are using. Even if you have a large audience, you don’t have control over the algorithm and can lose them at any time. If you have an email list, you own that list.
Why you should use images in your emails….
It’s super important to have your images on the email so that people can see and connect with you. Seeing your face really goes a long way to build your personal brand and build trust in your business.
Where to use images in your emails...
Email signature - allow people to remember who you are and connect with your reader.
Header - grabs the attention of your reader.
Images in your email - Breaks it up and allows people to read it more easily.
Reasons why people will unsubscribe....
You don't have a recognizable brand in your email and it confuses them.
You're sending sporadic emails, and not being consistent.
Having a “sender name” that is recognizable
How to use email to market to your ideal client...
Kill your newsletter - Don’t send out a huge email with a ton of content. Break it up and send it out over a number of weeks.
Keep it simple because we consume digital messages quickly.
Show up weekly with smaller bites of content.
Recycle your content a few weeks later to remind your subscribers and give them another chance to read it.
Make your emails skimmable. People spend on average 1 minute in your emails.
Give your subscriber an option to become a customer by telling them what the next step is.
Find the balance between service and selling.
Test, test, test. It takes time.

Whether or not you've had a branding session done, you may not know that it's not a one-and-done photography deal. It's always important to update and refresh your images to make sure they reflect who you and your business are today.
You might be thinking, "I don't need to work with a photographer or I had my pictures done and my website updated a couple years ago." So I've got a few questions you should consider if you don't know whether or not it's time to schedule a new one.
1. You Are Using Old Images
How old are the images that you're using? Are you using old images. Have you changed your style since you had your last pictures? Is your hair cut or a different color. Are you serving a different market? Have you lost or gained 10 lbs? It's important that you have updated, relevant images that reflect you right now.
2. You Are Only Using Stock Images
You should consider booking a branding session if you're only using stock images. Now there is nothing wrong with using stock images. I use them in my own business, website, and courses. The issue comes when you are only using stock images. Because your images will never truly connect to your brand and speak to your customers.
3. Nothing Matches
Does everything you post look a little jumbled because you have old pictures here and there, mixed with newer pictures and updated branding? Are your colors confusing and you're using different styles or fonts everywhere? We talked so much about consistency in building your brand that this is really where it comes down to. You want everything to look consistent. Take a minute and look at your brand. From FB to your website and everything in-between. If it just doesn't look like it's matching then you know that it's time for you schedule a session.
4. You’re Out Of Season
You should definitely try to have a brand session every season, so that your images are current and relevant to the times. Otherwise you will come across as disconnected to your clients and current issues. I always talk about being really intentional when it comes to writing your captions when it comes to talking to your audience so make sure that your pictures are intentional and it matches that.

Have you ever avoided getting you pictures taken because you just feel unnatural or awkward in front of the camera?
Girl....read on!
I know far too many people that have had a bad experience with pictures. Having a bad session can totally turn us off from taking photos.
But what I want to tell you first and foremost, is that if you are hiring a personal branding photographer, you want to make sure that you are hiring someone who knows their stuff. There’s a HUGE difference in someone who will just push a button to take pictures and someone who knows how to guide and direct you.
If you are not in a position to hire someone right now, or if you find yourself in a situation where you are not getting the posing direction you need, I’ve got 4 tips to help you feel and look more natural in front of the camera.
1. Incorporate Movement
I always start off my sessions this way. Whether walking, talking, or working, it can help to loosen you up and get more comfortable in front of the camera.
So start with an action. Move around. Walk, talk, make a coffee. Do the things that you normally do in your business. Got it? The ideas are endless.
2. Create Candid Moments
If you do not want to be posed or look stiff, then don’t do stiff things. It can be as simple as playing with your dog or reading a book.
These moments shouldn’t be perfect or staged.
What this does is it brings people into your world, virtually, of course….and allows you to be relatable and authentic.
The best way to be authentic is to invite your audience into your life ever so slightly. Almost like they are a fly on your wall, or your best friend that you’re meeting for coffee.
3. Change Your Focus
So if you’re like, "I’m terrified of getting in front of the camera because I can NEVER take a good picture” then I’ll let you in on a little secret. You DON’T have to look at the camera!
Think about looking in a different direction, off to the side, even down at the ground.
Changing your focus can actually help your viewer follow along to where you are looking.
This also adds a ton of variety. You could honestly be in the exact same position, but just turn your head and change your focus a few times and BAM! You’ve got 4 different looks.
4. Show Emotions
Let your guard down a little and accept who you are….all of you. It’s usually the people who say they want natural looking photos that are stiff and critical of themselves and they think that if they just had a natural looking photo they would like how they look in photos.
That is 100% backwards.
We have to be willing to get comfortable with how we look in photos first….no matter what our faces are doing...and THEN we will start to look natural.
BONUS Practice, Practice, Practice
If you want to know how to look natural in your pictures, you need to practice.
The more you practice, the more natural you will feel when you are posing. I promise. So get practicing, got it?!
BONUS Laugh
Just laugh. I spend a huge portion of my sessions with my clients laughing. Because nothing feels more natural or loosens you up more than laughing.
You’ve been asking it of me for forever and I’ve finally got it for you!
Introducing the:
Quick Start Brand Posing Guide

I recently listened to an amazing podcast by Brooke Castillo on The Life Coach School Podcast.
She talked all about how you get to be whoever you want to be despite your circumstance. We are stuck indoors, some of you may not be able to work, some of you may have limited customers, or may be contemplating closing your doors. But you can still show up however you want during this.
So how can you show up in your business? We are going to talk about four tips to getting beautiful pictures while you are quarantined.
This may not be the first place you think you should be taking pictures at. You'll want to find a location that has the best lighting and a simple background. If you don't have a place like this right now, find a way to rearrange some things so that you can create a space with these two characteristics.
Unless you get dressed 100% with makeup and hair done every single day you don't need to be dressed super professional for these pictures you are taking.
However, don't swing all the way to the other side and not feel like you have to put yourself together at all.
Find a balance between casual and professional. Real and authentic.
I want you to focus on showing your work. This is what personal branding is all about and so it doesn't change much now that we're in quarantine.
However, how you work, where you work, and how you get your work done may change and that's what I want you to show and capture.
I know that so many of you get nervous about showing the personal side of you and you just want to show up as the brand and the business but this is really great time for you to do a bit of a sneak peek or behind-the-scenes look into your life.
This is where people are really going to connect with you because many people don't have the ability to connect with others except for through social media right now.
You may not even be taking pictures of yourself or posting regularly during quarantine. And I would like to encourage you to start to do that immediately.
If you feel like you're being held back for any reason about how to take pictures go ahead use these tips or check out my DIY Branding Photography course, where I teach you how to take your own photos and will even edit them for you!
All so you can focus on doing the work that matters to you!

By now I hope that you understand that photography is all about lighting. So if we want to improve the pictures that we take in our home (or office....or anywhere indoor for that matter) we need to understand a few things about it. Starting with color temperature.
Did you know that lights have different colors to them? Color temperature determines the color or warmth of the light. Some tend to be more yellow/orange/red and some tend to be more blue. Color temperature is measured in terms of Kelvin.
So when we use lights that are of a higher Kelvin, or look more blue, we tend to call those photographs, cooler lighting. And when they have a yellow or orange cast to them, meaning we are using a lower Kelvin light, we call those photographs warmer lighting.
See the chart below if you got confused there.
Most home lighting tends to be warmer because it provides a sense of comfort, while blue lights are used more in industrial settings because it provides a sense of sterilization and cleanliness.
The light that is coming in from your window in the middle of the day is blue light.
So here’s the trick. Now that you know there are two kinds of light, you should never mix them. What does that mean? Don’t take pictures with one yellow light next to you and one blue light next to you. It will make you have some pretty funky skin colors or your product will start to look green and discolored.
Now why is it important to keep your lighting the same and not mix it? Well we talked about how it can make your colors look funky….but the hardest thing is that it’s difficult to fix it later on. Because I always want you to take some time to review your images and edit them before you throw them up on your website or social media to represent your professional business.
If you have all the lighting the same, it’s easy to edit them, because you can just use universal editing, which means editing that effects the entire image, rather than having to do selective editing, which means edited different parts of your picture in different ways. That’s way too much work and you don’t have the time to meticulous correct all of your pictures after the fact when you could have solved the problem by just turning off one hallway light.
You can only know what lighting is best in your home if you practice. As a business owner, look for examples of lighting that you like. Test it out.
And while we are under stay at home order, or for any time really, I am here to help you. Learn more about my new DIY Stay At Home Branding Session. You will get guidance all about posing, wardrobe, and lighting in order to take some amazing brand pictures of yourself. Plus….you don’t have to worry about the editing because I will do all of it for you.

Do you know what it means to be flexible in your business? When things change and shift in the economy, which they do often, it's important to be able to change and shift too. It's a crucial tool for small businesses.
A strong personal brand can weather storms if you make sure to stay true to your brand throughout a time of crisis. Don't use a crisis as a time to become lax and not "show up".
It's really important to note that we do need to focus on consistency with our clients.
So here are three different ways in which you can think about pivoting your business so that you can continue to stay successful and viable during this unique time.
1) Think about what problem your customer is currently experiencing. In times of crisis or economic uncertainty, this probably will be a different problem than you're used to solving. Deep dive into what your current customer are saying or asking they need. Listen to their concerns and how it relates to your product or service.
2) Focus on one aspect or feature of your offering and highlight it. Try not to overwhelm your client when they are already overwhelmed. Remember, less is more, so start with one part of your business and highlight that.
3) Try to flip-flop your offering. For example, if you have a service, can you turn it into a product and if you have a product, can you turn it into a service? This helps you maintain your loyal clientele base and provide them a different offering.
I'd like to share an example of pivoting in difficult time.....introducing the DIY Stay At Home Branding Session.
While I cannot physically be in the same space as my clients, I can provide you with the tools you need to take your own branding pictures. From posing to wardrobe and everything in-between. But the best part is I will edit 10 of your favorite images. Thus giving you the professional touch you need to keep your business running.
Check out all the details here!
Take some time to see what it is that you can do in your business to review your offerings and pivot (if you need to) to provide better services to your clients.

Creating flat lays are one of the best things you can do for your business.
They are fast, easy, and inexpensive.
And the best part, is you can have unique images that are 100% on brand.
You will need a few simple tools in order to create a flat lay.
The first thing that I would recommend is a poster board. If you don't have poster-board you can go ahead and use a really nicely pressed sheet or wrapping paper. But start with a simple backdrop to display your images.
Don't forget a camera to take your images. These are simple enough to take even with your smartphone.
You'll also need your props that you are including in your flat lays.
Tips to Creating Successful Flat Lays
These images are called flat lays because you need to stand above your flat lay and have your camera looking directly down. Like a bird's eye view.
Don't forget to edit your images when you are done! Check out my smartphone course below for everything you need to know on editing photos and flat lays.

So many businesses are being affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and we need to discuss how this will affect our businesses now and in the future.
Instead of being stressed or overwhelmed we need to focus on how this is going to help open doors for our business.
Here are THREE TIPS on how to help your business survive and thrive during a crisis.
BE CONSISTENT
Even when times are hard and a lot of things are changing it's so important that you remain consistent. We know that there's going to be a huge fallout from this health scare, but we can't change any of that. The only thing that we have control over is what we do in our business.
So, be consistent. Make sure that you're still posting on your social media consistently. Make sure that you're still sending out your regular newsletters. Make sure that you are showing up over and over again to remain at the forefront of your client's minds.
LISTEN TO YOUR CUSTOMERS
What better opportunity do we have then to take this time to really seek out the needs of our customers. Ask your customers questions to figure out what it is that they need. They're going to tell you exactly what they want to hear and see from you.
Make sure to show up with compassion. Everyone is experiencing this crisis through a difference lens. Compassion will go a long ways for your business.
DON'T STOP SELLING
If you have something of value it's okay to continue to charge for this. You have to understand that people still need you and your services. Focus on being service-oriented and helping people to avoid feeling "salesy".
A lot of happening for everyone and we don't know what the future is going to bring, but that doesn't mean that you should stop selling. It just means that it's time for you to get creative.
Take a few minutes and brainstorm all the things that you have to offer or could potentially offer to your clients.
The more we can run our business like normal and the more that we can continue to add value to the world, the faster we are going to get back to normal.
Now is the very best time to make sure that you have a strong personal brand. Take this time to focus on building your personal brand. There is no better time than now to market your business on social media. As we are all isolating together, everybody is turning to online businesses. You want to be right there at the Forefront of their mind at all times.
This really is such an amazing time for us to evaluate the offers that we have in our business and to evaluate what it is we're going to do with our brand in order to reach and speak to our ideal customers.
I promise that if you start to be forward-thinking with your business and take action in your business now you are going to be so much further ahead. What you decide to do in the next 3 to 4 weeks is going to affect your business for the next 3 to 4 years.
I wish you the best of luck right now. My heart goes out to all of the families who are hurting and struggling at this time. You are in my thoughts, you are in my heart, you are in my prayers.

Have you ever gone to a photoshoot or you’re getting ready to take pictures and you just don’t know what to do with your hands?
I’ve got some great tips for you to help make your next personal branding session be amazing!
This is a bit like a posing guide…but on steroids, because we are going to be focusing exclusively on what to do with your hands!
After years and years of working with women and posing people for pictures, I guarantee you that most people do not look natural when preparing to be in front of the camera.
So a little bit of guidance and knowledge helps in big ways.
If you are ever worried about posing or how you look, I always suggest that you start by practicing in front of a mirror.
Try a little exercise:
Take 3 minutes and without moving your feet, see how many different poses you can come up with by just moving your hands and arms. You could probably do at least 10…maybe more.
This is so powerful! You’ll find that there are some poses that you think are terrible. But you will DEFINITELY find poses that you like.
It’s always great to experiment. Go ahead…get creative!
But if you need some tips to get those juices flowing….check out this mini posing guide on my website. You’ll be well on your way to hand posing confidence.

We all have blocks when it comes to taking our picture or getting our pictures taken.
It may be that we don't like they way we look or smile. Perhaps the timing isn't right or you don't want to spend the money.
Or maybe you get stuck knowing if you should get a "fancy" camera to use in your business or not.
One of the questions I get asked the most is whether or not you need to have an amazing camera in order to take amazing pictures.
Now while there is definitely a time and place to hire a personal branding photographer to help you with you images, you don't always need a professional taking pictures for your business.
YOU can be the person to take the pictures and you can use the tools that you already have available to you.
The question isn't, "Do I need a better camera?" But rather, "Do I know how to use the tools that I already have?"
Of course if you are preparing for a huge launch, have never had a professional headshot, or are releasing a huge marketing campaign, book your personal brand shoot immediately!
But if you are looking to build up a library of images to use on your social media or website, and have time to be creative, you can definitely get away with using your smartphone.
You don't need a $10,000 camera to post pictures to instagram. In fact, most audiences don't care to see that. They want you to show up on social media in a way that connects with them. Images that are real and engaging.
Rarely is there a time when I am out and I have my large camera gear with me. When I want to share things about my life and business, I can guarantee that I have my phone with me, and with technology closing the gap between what a $10,000 DSLR and a $1,500 iphone can do, it make so much sense to learn how to shoot better pictures with your smartphone.
So do you need to get a fancy camera? No!
Should you have pictures taken with a fancy camera? Of course.
Should you get the best of both worlds and use each of these tools in different ways and for different purposes? Absolutely.
If you’ve ever looked at the pictures you take on your smartphone and wondered why they aren't turning out the way you would like them to, check out my brand new course:

We all carry these amazing cameras around with us all the time, but if you don't know how to use them then you are not tapping into the full potential of these awesome devices.

Did you know there is a whole psychology to how we view colors in branding and marketing?
This is legit scientific stuff...not just fluffy woo-woo. So even if you already have an established brand or just in the beginning stages and trying to work it all out, this information is for you!
One of the very first thing that most brand strategist have you do is work on what colors and logo you want for your brand. The shape and design of your logo is incredibly important, but research states that color is the most important aspect that you can choose when it comes to your brand.
Color is so important because our vision is the most powerful sense that we use. In fact, studies show that consumers have 90 seconds or less to make a decision to buy and that 60% to 85% of our assessment for trying out of product alone is based on color.
Remember, confused clients don't buy, so it's important to make sure that we build trust with our clients by using and sticking to a simple color pallet.
Think about some of your favorite brands. Most likely you would be able to tell me the colors that are associated with them right off the top of your head. For example, what is the color associated with Facebook? Target? Starbucks? These ones are so simple and I bet you were able to answer every single one of these in your head. That's because color psychology is such a powerful tool to use to connect and share messages to your audience.
Let's start by breaking down a few colors and talk a little bit about The psychology behind each one of them.
Yellow = optimism, warmth
Orange = friendly, cheerful, confident
Red = bold, exciting, strong, youthful
Purple/Pink = creative, imaginative, wisdom, femininity
Blue = trust, dependability, strength
Green = success, health, life, wellness
Black/White = powerful, strong, balanced, sophisticated
If you already have an established brand or brand colors and decide that they may not align with your messages, don't worry. It's never too late to update or freshen up your branding. Now I do not recommend that you do this often because once again that would cause confusion for your audience and your clients, but if you're just barely beginning and you really think that you can find something that aligns better with you then go ahead and switch it.
Once you have your branding colors down and they align with your business, go ahead and schedule a brand photography session. Make sure to incorporate your colors everywhere so that you can have a cohesive look and be constantly sending the messages to your clients that your brand colors have.

You’ve probably heard that Content Is King (or Queen). But what does that even mean? When it comes to helping your audience or customer know, like, and trust you, content creation is where it is at.
You can spend all the time in the world creating beautiful pictures and captions, but they won't do anybody any good if they are sitting on your computer or your phone because you don't put out your content on a regular basis.
When we are consistent with creating content and putting it out into the work, we allow our potential clients and customers to start to trust us. This is one of the BIGGEST ways to build trust with our audience.
If you find that you aren’t showing up on the regular, and you’ve never used an online scheduler, this tip may blow your mind.
There are a million different apps out there that will help you plan out and schedule your post or Instagrams stories or Pinterest pins. Many of them are free for their basic program and have a paid plan. But either way, the tools are game changers!
I have two tools that I use weekly to help me be consistent in producing content.
ASANA - Asana is an online work management tool. This is where I map out all of the content I’ll be releasing….whether on social media, this podcast, or my newsletter. It all goes into Asana. I can map, calendar, and rearrange my content super easily. Another amazing program to try is TRELLO. Trello has similar features, but a simpler user interface.
PLANOLY - I live for Planoly. This is the simple way that I can map out my IG feed to look exactly how I want it. I can get stats telling me the best times to post and save hashtag groupings.
CREATOR STUDIO - This is a great free option to manage your scheduled posts in Facebook and IG if you don’t want to mess with a third-party app.
Another way is to make sure that you are consistent is with your messaging. You want the look, feel, and message that you are putting out to be extremely consistent. This week we are getting intentional about the content we are creating. Business owners from every industry constantly need to create new content to be in the forefront of their audience’s minds. This can be as simple as an instagram post or as complicated as a long form sales page. But so many times we end up going about creating our content the wrong way.

But I’m not going to leave you empty handed. I’ve got a free download for your. It’s my Mini Branding Roadmap. This simple guide will help you to brainstorm and get intentional about what images you need to create in order to strengthen your message.
