Paul is joined by WCSU Biology professors, Dr. Neeta Connally and Dr. Rayda Krell, to discuss the myriad ways women have been treated equally and fairly over our country's 250 year history, but specifically in the scientific community.

While remembering former WCSU President, John B. Clark, after his recent passing, we revisited this interview with Paul Steinmetz from September of 2017. It is a real time capsule and nice look back at who President Clark was and who we were at that point.

Following his retirement after 40 years as Athletic Trainer for WestConn, Mark Allen joins Bart and Coach Loth on the pod to discuss the history of athletics here at the university and talk about what he's planning on doing now. A current Wolves player, Matt Forti #40, joins Bart and Coach Loth to talk about how he got to WestConn, what his experience has been like, and his plans for the future. Joining Coach Loth and Bart this week is very special guest John Cervino. John was WestConn's head football coach from 1992-1999 and was instrumental in turning the program around eventually going undefeated in his last season with the Colonials.
Coach Loth and Bart are joined by former WestConn QB Quinn Fleeting (2016-2017) who has the distinction of being our first transfer quarterback and has proven to be a big inspiration for one of our current QBs.

How do we move past all this and finds ways to respectfully and healthily disagree? Is it even possible to like someone with whom you disagree on big issues? I think it is, and we'll explore all that in this episode.

It's much harder to live with someone than you think - especially because most of us don't really talk to each other any longer, nor do we usually have to share space. So what do we do when we have something that's bugging us about our roommate - their music, their neatness, the people they bring in the room at all hours? Listen in as we try to provide some hints about how to make things better when you're living with someone new.

The Human Library is an event intended to create dialogue between very different individuals who might otherwise never meet. That’s why Paul Steinmetz was there, and during the celebration he interviewed many Danbury officials and citizens. Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim also showed up and talked about how he would treat Danbury if he becomes governor. Bharbara Viegas closes the podcast with an end-of-semester farewell.

Jordan Young is the third-generation of his family to lead Fairfield Processing in Danbury. At the recent Macricostas Entrepreneur of the Year Award ceremony, Jordan and Paul discussed the pressures of ensuring that a family business adapts and succeeds in an ever-changing environment. Dr. Shouhua Qi was born and grew up in China as the country was still feeling the effects of the Cultural Revolution, political purges and social upheaval. When he was accepted to university, he worked hard to excel in the major that was assigned to him: English. He eventually journeyed to the U.S. to earn his Ph.D. and now combines his love of English with research in China, where he studies the introduction and effect of Western literary classics on Chinese society.

Lionel Bascom, a writing instructor at Western Connecticut State University, has a thing about Harlem. He spent part of his childhood there and as a scholar he has studied it ever since. His latest book, “Harlem: The Crucible of Modern African American Culture,” shows that not only did the flowering of African-American literature and music endure in Harlem much longer than is widely documented, but much of black culture in the United States was forged there.
Dr. Kevin Gutzman, a History professor at Western Connecticut State University and a prolific author, has turned his attention to Thomas Jefferson and the ideas that the author of the Declaration of Independence spent most of his life developing. Gutzman discusses his recently published book, “Thomas Jefferson – Revolutionary: A Radical’s Struggle to Remake America,” and Jefferson’s continuing influence on American life.
