Hiatus.... What hiatus?? What I thought would be a 4 week break has turned into a pivotal time in our nation and culture. I've found myself researching, educating, weeping, angry, inspired, motivated, saddened at the state of the lives of BLACK PEOPLE. I couldn't sit still. I couldn't be quiet. It would be remise of me not to drop this episode on today, Juneteenth as we witness a shift in our voices and our fight. We have to do the work. Do it tired. Do it scared. Just Do It, period.
About our Guest: Erik Wilson is a teacher with Hampton City Schools. His passion for education comes from his desire to to service the youth in the community - the same community which was pivotal in his formal education. Mr. Wilson is a degree holder from both, Howard University and The Ohio State University.
Mr. Wilson provides us with a ton of literature in this episode, you may want to write those down. Knowledge is key.

September is Suicide Prevention Month. It would be remise of me not to speak on this topic on the podcast. I have been very open with my mental health struggles, but I alone am not knowledgeable enough to bring you the facts around such a taboo topic. We have a special guest this week whose bio speaks for itself. We welcome (soon-to-be, Dr.) Jenay Garrett (we are speaking that into existence). Mrs. Garrett stepped into Lavender Land with a plethora of information around mental health and suicide. We discuss: depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, trauma, substance abuse and the statistics, facts and myths surrounding suicide. I learned so much and I think you will too. Don't skip this episode because you feel your mental health is in tact. Jenay's vast knowledge can help educate listeners and make you more aware of what to look for in your own life and the lives of others. This candid conversation was so eye-opening for me. Together we can change the stigma and statistics around suicide.

This episode is very personal... I share my heart. (And y'all know I'm MAD private). I hope that it connects with you. We got this. How can we lose when God is with us?! HOW?!?!

I know the podcast is on hiatus... but I felt this was the perfect episode to repost. With children and teens across the nation heading back to school or recently starting school, this episode is vital. I was joined by my sister, a woman I can trust, educator, and essential oil connoisseur, Mrs. Janna Jackson. This episode is filled with educational gems. Parents, teachers and administrators alike, this is for you.
Please Note: This was the very first, full episode recorded for the podcast. We were in a very popular and busy hotel in the Washington, DC area. There are some minor noise issues. Please bare with this episode (and me) as I perfect my craft.

This wraps up Season 2!! I can't believe I just typed that! Like, How Sway?! This season has been everything! Better than I could have ever imagined. In this episode I recap season 2 before starting The Pyramid of Transformation. Season 2 included: Juneteenth, 4th of Julying, Woman Evolve Recap, When Iron Men Meet Lavender Women, Healing Girl Summer; Parts 1 and 2. This week I wanted to discuss something that could bring all the work we have done all season together but on a lighter note, because let's face it, those HGS episodes were kinda heavy. This week we explore 5 ways to effectively transform: AWARENESS, RESPONSIBILITY, FORGIVENESS, PEACE and JOY. Joy is the cliff-hanger of this episode as we will expound on that when we return on September 18 with Season 3. That will be an episode you do not want to miss. Until then, share this podcast with someone you love.

Until we link back up on September 18, know that love and light follows you everywhere you go. Know that. Believe that. Love you.... mean it.
Last week was so good I had to come back with a Part 2. This is Healing Girl Summer, Part 2: When You Know Better, You Do Better. Last week I gave 5 tips to kickstart our Healing Girl Summers. However, after a rollercoaster week of life trying to fight me, (remember life got them hands), I realized that there are additional tools that are beneficial to our healing journeys. This week I share 5 more steps to go deeper into your healing.
As mentioned in the episode, I wanted to provide scripture for one of the tools mentioned. Those scriptures are: Hebrews 10:25, Matthew 18:20, Acts 20:7, I Corinthians 16:19, Colossians 4:15, Romans 16:5, James 2:2. I'm just the messenger. (Kanye shrug)
Also I stated that I would give a couple resources to help you find a therapist in your area. Websites such as: www.therapyforblackgirls.com and www.betterhelp.com may help aid you in finding the perfect therapist in your area. Go to therapy, sis!

This week we explore what happens when Iron Men meet Lavender Women. We define who modern day Iron Men and Lavender Women are and do some serious gem dropping. This is probably our most transparent episode to date. This episode was eye-opening, insightful and impactful. Don't aspire to be relationship goals, aspire to meet the goals within your relationship.

Always remember that love and light will find you, no matter where you go.
Welcome back! I attended the 2019 Woman Evolve Conference in Denver, CO hosted by Pastor Sarah Jakes Roberts. IT. WAS. EVERYTHING! I wanted to share the jewels that were bestowed upon me. I mention gems from: Pastor Sarah Jakes Roberts, Pastor Toure Roberts, Bishop TD Jakes, Myliek Teele, Keri Hilson, Cora Jakes Coleman and many more. What I learned at this conference can help us evolve into lavender women. Be a faithful member of the bruised heel society.... you have to listen to understand. Share this episode with someone you know/love. Let's evolve together.

Happy 4th??? Not so much. 4th of Julying is the truth-telling of this day and what it meant to the enslaved. This is a short but powerful episode. We explore the literary piece by Frederick Douglas and the flava-truth of New Orleans native, Sunni Patterson.
In short, I am not coming to your cook-outs and get togethers today or this weekend in celebration of America's independence while my ancestors were still enslaved. I'm not preparing a dish for your 4th of July gathering. Julying, if you think I am!!
Once you know better there is an obligation to do better.
Seed of Intention: Activation
Affirmation: I just can't give up now.... I've come to far from where I started from.

I wanted to start this season off right... and with that being said, what better way that a Juneteenth episode on JUNETEENTH! We have a guest co-host joining us today as I could not have done this episode without her. We welcome Ms. Olivia Cochran to the TLW Podcast. She is an African American Studies teacher and is well-versed in Juneteenth. Y'all, I learned so much! Get into it!! Know yourself. Know your HISTORY. Learn others history. The more we know, the more we grow. Ms. Cochran provided a timeline that I've attached below. Don't let the conversation stop here. Clink the link, share this episode (and podcast) with your family, friends and co-workers. Listen to this with your children. Each one, teach one. Happy Juneteenth!

Episode 10 is posted across Lavender Land! May is Mental Health Awareness Month and we explore how our decisions affect our mental health. This was a hard episode! I barely made it through. The affirmation and seed of intention for this week is EVERYTHING! If you are in need of professional help, please seek help. Don't suffer in silence.
{Happy 84th Birthday (in Heaven), Gramma. She is the rhyme and reason to everything I do. She was a seeker and teller. Her words helped people. Her love lifted people. Her life changed people. I am thankful for your life and the divine purpose set at my feet. What a blessing to be a part of your legacy.}
In honoring my mental health and self-care, there will not be a new episode this week. May is a really hard month for me for many reasons that I will likely discuss this month in future episodes. I've done the work. I am doing the work. But some days still take a toll on me. I will be taking this time to dig deep, meet with my therapist to gain more understanding and strategies so I can come back stronger and healthier to the Lavender Platform with more information to help us on this journey. Until next time, be good to one another....be gentle with yourself. You're doing the best you can. And remember there is nowhere you can go where love and light won't find you.
If your mental health is compromised, here are some organizations I found online:
www.betterhelp.com for online counseling
1-800-273-8255 for suicide hotline
**Please Note: I do not endorse any of these organizations. Please consult a professional.

Welcome Back!! This episode 7! I cannot believe it!! Don't let the title fool you this week, this is GOOD!!! Gem dropping will happen, seed planting will happen. And most importantly, healing will take place. This weeks episode was nearly perfect and I get better at my craft... no audio or sound issues this week. Then I listened to the playback and I said today is April 31st....SMH. Don't judge me, ok?! I learned that song in elementary about the months of the year and how may days each month had, but..... For the Lavender Women Community today will be April 31st, not May 1, LOL!!!! So close y'all, so close. Maybe next week, LOL! Listen now!!
This week we explore how we have normalized toxic behaviors that run in our families. Generational curses are real. But as Lavender Women, we have the power to break the cycle. Listen for this week's affirmation and seed planting. Let's be intentional with break generational curses.
