A reminder that although the podcast has been cancelled, previous episodes can be downloaded at 1517.org. Chad Bird, Rev. Edward Killian, John Andrew Schreiner and Eddy Duhan wish to thank all of you have listened and given your time and support to this podcast. It has been a tremendous honor to present these episodes as a quiet time for spiritual refreshment and rejuvenation for the people of God. As all creation enters the final Day of the Lord, where the things that once seemed important now fade away, we hear the question "who is worthy to open the scroll?". Chad guides us through this magnificent passage and Rebekah Ceggegi sings "Worthy is the Lamb".

We have so much to be grateful for, and most of all we can give thanks for Christ Jesus leaving the heights of heaven and coming to dwell among us, taking our sin, destroying death and making eternity in heaven possible to thise who call upon His name. We have the mind of Christ
Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be exploited, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. One of the most encouraging scriptures we have to remind us that we are not alone, even when everything we see is telling us to give up and lose hope. Chad beautifully meditates upon this treasure and lifts are hearts to God, the Eternal One. Jeff Anderson is a gifted singer and once again sings with beauty and truth to encourage us all.

Another rough passage of scripture that describes God's wrath as he judges His people for their actions. Chad digs into this and the similarities to the language from Exodus. Chad encourages to meditate on verse 2: "in wrath, remember mercy". And God has remembered, sending His beloved Son to earth to live and die in our place, rise again and break the cold chains of bondage that bind us all. Rebekah Caggegi sings "Maranatha!" and we look forward to the great day of the Lord when He, the great Judge makes everything forever right.

This is a tough passage. Defeat, humiliation, devestation, and the false prophets led the sheep to the slaughter. Chad meditates on this heavy lament from the prophet Jeremiah and reminds us that our only hope is in our Saviour Jesus Christ. Marvelle Figueroa sings the haunting song "Sandcastle".

Well this is a tough one... not really the most encouraging passage of scripture to meditate on, but there is so much wealth in these verses. We are encouraged to remember that wealth and status and pleasure can pass in an instant and each of us could wake up broke, sick, hurt, humbled and changed by circumstance. In this passage Jeremiah laments over the misery he sees. Chad leads us through this passage and points us to the sure hope of Christ, our Savior, who holds onto us and will never abandon us. Like many of the laments of Jeremiah, this is a mixture of questions, frustration, anger, trust and hope. Chad gives a beautiful and encouraging meditation on this gripping passage. Rachel Hall sings "You Came Down".

Sometimes all we can say is "Lord , have mercy, Christ have mercy. Jeremiah could see what was happening, and was serving God by warning everyone. God understands and is our only hope. In this passage Jeremiah is enthusiastically praising God, then cursing the day he was born, then speaking as a warrior, then speaking fearfully. Chad understands and ruminates on this subject, then points us yet again to our certain hope, hope that is always present, even when we don't even know ourselves. Receive my prayer
We've all been wronged, sometimes by those closest to us, or those who we trust the most. So, how do we respond, especially when we know that we can't truthfully claim our own righteousness and demand God's wrath against those who have hurt us. Oftentimes we hold our feelings inside, keeping our thoughts to ourselves, which only makes things worse. In God's mercy, He has given us words to express in prayer, words found in Holy Scripture, that encapsulate our deepest pains and struggles. This passage from Jeremiah is another gem for the wounded. Chad meditates on this passage and points us to the great healing and redemption found in Christ alone. Mikaela Adams sings a beautiful lament entitled "Christ have mercy".

Only God sees the whole story, and the backstory from every angle, and only God is qualified to judge us. We may judge others and ourselves much too harshly, or we may not care enough to speak up when someone is in need of guidance. in Psalm 98 we see the whole earth become animated and rejoice because God is coming to judge, and He will get it right. The wicked and arrogant think they can prey upon the poor with impunity. Not so. Chad meditates on God hiding himself, it seems especially in times of trouble. Lament, interrogation of God and David’s frustration help us to see that though the work dis full injustice, God is closer than we think, and God invites us to cry and complain to Him. Throughout this magnificent chapter, we have meditated on the ways of God, the benefits of walking with God, staying close to Him and learning from Him. Now as we get to the end of the chapter we see that we are all like lost sheep, and we all desperately need the salvation given to us through Christ. THe Psalm ist says "let Your hand helpme, for I have chosen Your precepts".

All creation groans under the weight of sin, greed, and despair. As we enter into the season of Lent we have good reasons for hope. In the midst of our worship, God admonishes us to remember His goodness, and don't harden our hearts like our ancestors when they forgot God in the wilderness. We might think of the poetry of the Psalms as a dance between creation and redemption. In this Psalm, iniquities prevail yet God atones for our salvation. All creation rejoices with their creator in thanksgiving.
This Psalm reminds us to go outside and join creation in giving thanks to the God who has bound himself to our humanity. Rebekah Caggegi sings “Love and Creation Dancing”.
Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear him,

What if God doesn’t hear me? The doubts and fears that lurk beneath our faith can rise up and speak to us in our worst times of struggle. Colin Heinrich sings “When Hope Disappears".
Psalm 60 is a lament that begins with a harsh and bitter accusation, namely that God has rejected us. David complains about rejection, loss, national tragedy and
the experience of feeling that God has abandoned and rejected us. The brilliant Ryan Delmore sings “God Has Rejected Me”.
From the 4 corners of the cross, Christ’s gift of redemption spreads throughout the earth, throughout the generations, and is perpetually praised in the celestial realm. Meanwhile, we suffer and bear the burden of living in a fallen and hurting world. We look to God in our pain, knowing that God loves us and is with us throughout the ages. Izzi Ray sings “Honor and Glory".
The needy are not forgotten by God. He hears the cry of the afflicted. Those that forget God will be forgotten, but for those that trust Him, forever they will live in the light of His face. Izzi Ray sings “Jesus, Lord I Trust In You”.
Pain and suffering; it can feel like punishment from an angry God, and we try to figure out the cause, to our own frustration. Psalm 31 speaks to this and much more as we join with Christ and His sufferings on our behalf. Kris Winrich sings “Waiting for My Deliverance”.
Waiting on God can seem like slow motion torture sometimes. Our minds can play tricks on us and deceive us into thinking we are left alone to suffer and die, but if we remember the One who created us, called us, goes before us and is with us each moment, we can awaken the hope and worthy optimism that belongs to those who belong to God. The fact is this: we all are going to die. Whether we are rich or poor, foolish or wise, we will all pass away. No one can change this reality, but our hope is in Christ, who will carry us into the land of eternal blessings.

When surrounded by evil, it’s easy to think our doom is sure. How we can defend ourselves, how can we judge the wicked, especially when they seem so much smarter,stronger and more confident than us? Our help is in our righteous Judge. All is well when God is our Advocate and we belong to Him. Markita Knight sings “I Flee Like A Bird”.
The stormy seas of life threaten us, but we need not fear, for God is with us. Our gaze is upon His face. We look to Him alone to rescue, defend, strengthen and uphold us.
God is our refuge and strength, our source of eternal joy. Colin Heinrich sings “There Is A River”.
Part of the journey involves seasons of affliction, and during those times it is easy to feel separated from God, even rejected by our God. We look forward to the day when our eyes will behold the God who saved us, and we will see that we were never forsaken or left to grovel alone. He is with us. He has redeemed us from the death that came upon mankind after the fall of Adam. Chris Lizotte sings “I Want To Be Where You Are”.
None of us can enter the Kingdom of God based on our righteousness. Whether we realize it at the time, we are being carried through this life by our loving Savior. God asks that we cast on Him the weight of our burdens and allow Him to carry us into the promised land. Markita Knight sings “Carry Me”.
Everyone is stained by sin. Who can stand before God? Who can dwell in His holy presence? Only the one who walks blamelessly. Disappointing for those who look to stand on our own merit, but good news for those who seek representation in Jesus Christ. Paul Jackson sings “Everyone”.
Psalm 2 ends by describing the state of blessing for those take refuge in God. In this life we are often left to wondering why God, who loves the world so much, is so rejected and hated by so many that He created. This Psalm contrasts the honor bestowed on the Son, with the hatred of God by the heathen. The nations rage in vain because God’s love overcomes the world. Stephanie Wright sings “Blessed Are The Ones”.
When God changed Jacob’s name to Israel, thereafter his story was linked into as God’s story. Psalm 8 speaks of the human being, as humanity, but also of Christ. This Psalm is quoted in Hebrews as being about the Savior. And God has crowned the Savior with glory and dominion, and those who trust in Him will reign with Him eternally. We have co- crucified, co-buried and co-resurrected with Him. Izzi Ray sings “We Carry Your Name”.
This Psalm was written when David had to fake insanity to escape danger as he was on the run from King Saul. David responds with thanksgiving in the midst of turbulent circumstances. This Psalm also speaks prophetically of Christ and His afflictions. Afflictions may be numerous and overwhelming in this life, but one day things will be set right by the hand of God, who is the final Judge. Colin Heinrich sings “I Sought the Lord”.
Psalm 1 shows us the true state of life and death. Life in abundance, rooted and secure in Christ, or desolate as we are left to ourselves. Rebekah Caggegi sings "I Saw The Tree of Life".
This majestic Psalm reminds us who is in charge and Lord of all. We belong to the Most High God. John Andrew Schreiner sings " The Voice of the Lord".
The heavens declare the glory of God, and we are wise to meditate on God's revelation through creation. But He grants us specific benefits and grace from the Word He has given to us. Izzi Ray sings "Without A Sound".
Psalm 37 shows us that God is making all things new, and covering His own with protection. We are told to be still, wait patiently on God, not to fret, but continually trust and watch God accomplish His promises. Terry Clark sings "I Will Not Fear".
Sometimes it seems that everything goes the opposite way we desire. But who thinks that repentance is the answer God sets before us?God turns us from ourselves to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. We cry out to God to heal us. This episode was sung by our dear brother Jeff Macare who was taken into the arms of Christ in 2021. He is joined in this song by his daughter Aralyn singing background vocals.
Psalm 23 is often at odds with our emotions. Oftentimes we can feel alone and vulnerable and unable to see any reason for hope. Though our eyes and emotions can set to betray us, God will never leave us or forsake us. Our hope is secure in Christ. Izzi Ray sings "The Lord is my Shepherd".
We are accustumed to praying to God, through Christ, but in this Psalm we are praying to the Father and asking Him to hear the prayers of His Son, prayers made on our behalf. Linda McCrary sings "Every Prayer".
Anyone that follows Christ will face troubles. Psalm 18 speaks of deep waters, foreboding disasters and a sense of doom. We cry out to God because He alone desires and is able to save us. Bryan Duncan sings "Won't You Save Me"
A Psalm of David, spoken as a prophet, seeing into the future what would happen to the Messiah. It is Jesus Christ who says “the Lord is my portion and my cup”. “ I am secure, for you will not will let my flesh see corruption”. Death loses all power over Christ and because of that, this Psalm is one to reflect on when considering our mortality. Where is our hope found? Jonathan Noel sings “You Will Not Abandon Me”.
A Psalm of comfort for all of us. John Andrew Schreiner sings “The Lord is My Light and My Salvation”.
In this painful Psalm, we read of distress that is caused by lying lips and deceitful tongues. This Psalm follows the majestic Psalm 119 which meditates on the benefits of God’s decrees. Here in Psalm 120 we our alone, estranged from the world and concerned, even for our own predilection to wander. God is with us. Chris Lizotte sings “I’m A Stranger on the Earth”.
In this episode, Chad Bird talks about the disconnect we often experience when reading Psalms like this. This tremendous, encouraging Psalm can also be so different from what we experience, and as a result we end up doubting God, ourselves, and the truth of His Word. Chad reminds us that Christ lives in us, and we live in Him. We pray to Him, and through Him, and in Him. This is our confidence, not our strength or understanding, nor vision or emotion. Our hope is in the One who holds us safely in His care. Izzi Ray sings “I Pray To You (Your Will Be Done)”.
If you are a follower of Jesus Christ, then you have a duel citizenship; One on Earth, and one in the new in Jerusalem. This is our confession, that this Kingdom has a capitol city, Jerusalem. When we gather, wherever we are, we come to Mount Zion, the city of the living God to worship together. We belong to the communion of saints, lead by our eternal King. Rebekah Caggegi sings “Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken”.
God has looked down upon us with peace, righteousness, fidelity, and love. This Psalm is understood as describing our Savior who perfectly manifests all of these with mercy towards us. He gives us these gifts now, so humanity will never again be the same. God became one of us. Esther Mylar sings “Faithfulness and Love”.

The enemies of God will be put to shame. David understands this as he looks back on his life. He sees God’s kindness and seeks to document God’s faithfulness to every generation. All done in mercy, grace, and love. All accomplished by the God who never leaves our side. Izzi Ray sings “My Deliverance”.
Psalm 70 encapsulates all of our needs in this life. We ask God to hurry up, make haste, and deliver us from all torments, in all situations. Isa Agape sings “Make Haste”.
There is a time for everything under heaven. There is a time to cry out to God in anguish, and a time to cry out hallelujah in thanksgiving. We also cry out to God to make things right, to judge according to His righteousness, and put an end to the wicked workers of sin. Then we will say “surely there is a God who judges”. If we repent and throw ourselves on the mercy of God, then we can trust in His unfailing love. God is capable of despising evil and forgiving sinners. Our enemies have weapons that can intimidate us and we can easily imagine being destroyed by them. The Psalms speak of how the weapons of the wicked are often used by God to destroy the enemy by their own hand. The wicked thought they destroyed Christ on the cross, but instead it was Christ that destroyed death, by dying for us and rising from the dead so that we could follow Him into an eternity of joy and peace. It is helpful to realize that we all face different types of threats. We should take no good thing for granted, but instead receive each day as a gift from the God of mercy. David was surrounded by enemies that seemed like wild beasts, seeking to devour him. He looked to God for mercy and so should we. God is our Rescuer, who brings His faithfulness to us. So even if we are hidden in a cave, hunkered down and surrounded, we can proclaim God’s greatness and rest in His strength as He defends His children. We will seek refuge and find it in Him. David was betrayed when he was hiding from King Saul, but he trusted in the name of God, and so can we. No matter how confused and bewildered we have become, God hears us when we call on His name. We call Him into our twisted and damaged lives to show mercy, and to pick us up and carry us into the light once more. With such a faithful God, we can truly say “all shall be well” because we trust in God and call upon His name. Jonathan Noel sings “All Shall Be Well”.
In Psalm 41, when we come to faith in Christ, our Savior’s life becomes ours. His death is our death, His resurrection, our resurrection.
Jesus is surrounded by hateful enemies who desire His death. We remember that Christ lovingly considered us when He suffered the awful betrayal and humiliation. But how ow can Christ say He has sinned? He willingly became a curse for us, so that in Him we might be blessed. Izzi Ray sings “Everlasting”
Psalm 35
This Psalm is a prayer from Jesus Christ who comes down to make war on our behalf. Christ calls out to His Father, and the fight is fierce and long. He comes in mercy but is opposed by the ones He loves, and hated without cause. Jonathan Noel sings “Without Cause”.
Psalm 36
The children of mankind take shelter in the shadow of Your wings. Evildoers lie fallen, but those that
repent find eternal hope in Christ. Both Jews and Greeks are under sin, but Christ restores us to life.
The lovingkindness of God extends to the heavens and His majestic love saves us from ourselves. We drink living water from the river of God’s delights. Kirsten Ford sings “By the Waters of Eden”.
Psalm 26 begins with a plea that God will vindicate me because of my integrity. Our broken reality shows that this doesn’t seem true when it is only our voice making statements like this. We never pray alone. We pray in and through Jesus Christ and we trust in His righteousness of His life and His integrity. We are united with Christ. We read much about standing and walking in this Psalm. In His truth and faithfulness we stand and give thanks. Chris Lizotte sings “On Level Ground”.
Psalm 25, an acrostic Psalm, begins with “to You I lift up my soul”. This prayer covers everything we need from God, from A to Z. Blake Flately sings “A to Z”.
Psalm 17
Life in this world is a life of conflict. Our battles are not against flesh and blood, and the devil looks to devour us. We look to the infinite mercy of God. We trust in His heart of mercy. Christ is the Savior of those who seek shelter in Him. We pray that God will guard us from every evil that threatens us as the apple of His eye. Izzi Ray sings “Apple of Your Eye”
This episode reflects on a time in Israel’s past where they are met by the goodness of God who has turned their misfortune into freedom and joy. Their mouths were filled with laughter, whereas before they were filled with groaning and cries of despair. Just as God has worked redemption in the past, God will not diminish and is worthy of our trust in the present and future, because God is the same, yesterday, today and forever. Words have great power to destroy. Chad meditates on the power of words in scripture and the contrast being the pure words of the Lord and the speech that tears down and brings shame and fear. This prayer cries out to God for the saving Word, the Word made flesh and for God to speak into us His living word and the gift of bringing those healing words to those around us. When we are suffering persecutions, falsely accused and battling our own emotions, the truth of His grace is greater than anything that can attack us, including ourown thoughts. David states a very bold accusation that God has rejected and abandoned him. The land is quaking, shaking and full of tragedy. Sometimes our experience leads us to the conclusion that God has abandoned us as well. The Psalms give us language to express this rejection that we feel. Psalm 7 is a prayer that gives expression to those who have experienced persecution. Christ prays the Psalms and as we pray these Psalms we pray in Him and He prays in us that these prayers might go to the ear of the Father. God is described as a warrior who goes to battle for us.
