Repentance was never meant to make you more selfishly sin conscious. It was always about coming to your senses, remembering where you belong, and drawing you out of your false identities back home to the heart of the Father. Sin hides the face of God behind a veil of illusion and delusion where all you can see is the good, the bad, and the ugly of you. Repentance is Metanoia, and rightly revealed, will open your eyes to the grace that can only be found in beholding the face of God in Jesus Christ. It is beholding him that we are healed and made whole. (Bill shoves the intern out of the way grunting, "I'm writing this one myself.") This podcast should be titled, "Exploring the Incarnation. Or "Caught in the Crossfire of Adoration." Or maybe, "Once adopted, always a Son." All of these would be better titles, but only a few hundred of you will listen if it's not named something ridiculous, stupid, or barely crossing the line of Christian decency. I hate clickbait titles because the people who aren't roped in by shock value will actually take the time to study with you and value what they're learning. "Pull My Finger" is a clickbait title for a world with the attention span of a gnat. But the revelation in this podcast is so life giving, that I went with it. Not that it doesn't fit. Oddly enough, in this particular conversation around a table of adults, it actually fits well. My Mom, in her 80's called me afterward to tell me that talking about gastrointestinal explosive bodily function is not appropriate when ladies are present. I reminded her that ladies fart too, and it wafts through the house like a day old diaper in a crock pot, and that's God's fault. All that aside, this may be the strangest conversation about Christmas you've ever heard, and yet it also may be one of the most moving. Do you believe that God needs to wipe out humanity to deal with all the sin in the world? You might remember from the Bible, that's been done before. Judgment and curses will never cure the sin problem. Only the cross and blood of Jesus Christ could do that. And it has. In 2 Peter 3 there is the warning of future judgment, so what are we to make of this in light of the new (Christic) covenant? That's what this podcast will deal with today. We're not proof texting here to fit a preconceived notion into a theological construct. I used to be a staunch dispensationalist, rapture seeker, and hellfire and brimstone preacher. It's amazing how a little study and education, and an encounter with the Holy Spirit, can expand your understanding of the goodness of God. But that requires swallowing your pride, admitting you were wrong, and seeing with new eyes the things of God you didn't understand before. "I hear you're a universalist." I get this alot. Some people would rather speculate about someone than have a conversation with someone. And I understand. Conversations require courage. When your dogma is so fragile that all it takes to topple your belief is a different opinion, then avoiding conversations is the only way to keep your dogma on a leash. Hang on for this one. My tone is intentionally low key, because the gravity of the content is weighty. The revelation of your authentic identity imparts a supernatural peace that displaces darkness, dissolves stress, and dispels the lies and labels that have defined you for so long. Teenagers are brutal. Being a youth minister was one of the greatest joys and hardest assignments I've ever had. Ahh, glorious mutilation. Today we look at the verses that deal with hacking, slashing, chopping, and cutting off of the flesh for religious glory. If you have fasted yourself into a health crisis, you probably weren't listening to God. Nice effort, but your kids would probably rather have a live dad rather than a dead disciple. If you've put a porn filter on your computer, good job. Doesn't help your imagination (or your cell phone) though, does it? The law of freedom from the sin of separation is the new covenant which is the Spirit of life in Christ, so here we go again with part 6. You're a three second scroller you say? The New Covenant is not about a transaction between you and God, but a transformation where who you were before is not who you are now. If there is no conversion then we will continue to live with an old identity that, in Christ, has passed away. The New Covenant is the rest of reconciled union with God in Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit where all things are made new. Have you experienced the new birth? This podcast was recorded before the events in Buffalo, NY and Uvalde, TX unfolded. But it explains a little about the nature of freedom that God has given us under the new covenant. Living in freedom is great, but learning to manage that freedom is glorious. Where freedom management fails, we apply controls. It seems that controlling others, society, culture, and surroundings are far easier than controlling self. So we go the easier route. To teach us how to govern the self, God has given us the Holy Spirit. And without the Holy Spirit, the bride of Christ loses her ever loving mind. God has made an investment in us, and he expects a return.

Just because God gave man the law, don't think that defines him as a lawyer. When there's a barrier between people, any connection needs to be spelled out in rules of engagement. Yet in the new covenant we have life, liberty, and love as the pulsing heartbeat that is the uniting rhythm of this temple. There's a mystery to be embraced about the rules of engagement that's every bit as magnificent as the majesty of his word. To lean in to understand this will enroll you in a school that will empower you in the....let's say it like this...new rules of engagement. The blood and violence that defined the old temple is now replaced by the glorious inheritance that all of that blood and violence paid for. Jesus accomplished all three roles necessary to finish the work on the cross. He was the great high priest who offered the sacrifice. He was the holy one on the throne who received the sacrifice. And he was the sacrifice itself. You and I are in the equation purely by his grace and that’s how we are saved. The only thing necessary to receive salvation is faith. We have no faith of our own so we must ask God to give us the faith to believe and receive the grace of salvation. So even though we are invited into the process, we are not the source of any of the elements necessary for us to be saved. This is how God in Christ saved us single-handedly. God is raising up a Daniel company of prophetic voices who live in surrender to his voice without compromise, walk in radical compassion toward all, who are completely reliant upon grace, are teachable in a quest for understanding, and walk in intimate humility before God. You can see how someone lives before God by how they walk before men. Someone who is arrogant before men will not suddenly turn and walk humbly before God. If you live humbly before God, you’ll have no problem honoring all men, as the Apostle Peter admonished us to do. As I consider the landscape of voices in the church today, I wonder how far many of us would have walked in Daniel’s shoes before we snap and become martyrs on the altar of our own self righteousness? The way that seems right may not be something that’s actually sinful. It may seem right because it IS right. But if the Bible teaches us anything it’s that God is not obligated to step in on every fight we pick. Wherever he guides us he empowers us. If you get any one revelation out of this podcast I pray it’s this. Develop a relationship with God and learn to listen to and rely upon his voice. “The voice of God is a friendly voice. It would probably be way better marketing to title this, “the hell show” but truth be told, I’m not sure I want this podcast to get out there. Mainly because I’m not entirely certain about everything I’ve said. I grew up in the church and on the mission field with decades of certainty in the orthodox doctrine of the afterlife and the plain and simple formula we all grew up with to say the sinner’s prayer and thus “make sure” and “know that you know” where you’re going to spend eternity. But when you discover that there are four separate words in the Bible all translated as the singular word, hell, it raises some questions that can lead to doubts. Doubt will tear your faith down. But faith is actually the opposite of certainty, and because I want to actually strengthen my faith, I have questions. I’m a middle aged minister with decades of experience and education and I still have questions. Don’t you? Or do you have this all figured out? Have you ever noticed that when we want God to answer our questions, instead sometimes he questions our answers? This specific podcast may be dangerous to your certainty, but I hope and pray that it enhances your intimacy with God. After all, it’s in that place close to his heart where you find all the right answers to all the right questions.

The issue of abortion is and choice touches both of those values, and so even thought this isn’t a podcast I’ve been wanting to do, but it’s one that needed to be done. Let’s imagine a scenario. You and me, together we are standing at the foot of the cross. Jesus is there before us, hanging on the cross and says, “Father, forgive them for they don’t know what they’re doing.” You realize that he’s talking about you. You let the grace of God wash over you. You feel the forgiveness that you don’t deserve. Suddenly you look around and your worst enemy, the one who has hurt you the most, is standing there in the crowd too. Now, how does that feel? Do you remember where you were on 911? We were having our weekly Tuesday morning prayer meeting an hour before the first plane hit the World Trade Center. A lady came to that meeting with the urgent request that we pray for the nation. So we did. But the planes still hit the towers, and thousands of people were still killed. Why would God have us pray for a nation about to endure suffering without the intention to intervene? Why does God let suffering happen at all? What purpose does it serve? The freedom he has given humanity is a testimony to something deeper than the pleasure or pain of our humanity. There is a oneness in the Spirit we must learn to participate in by being intentional about loving one another and fulfilling the mandate of Christ.

In the United States, the suicide rate increased 25.4% from 1999 to 2016. In 2018, there were an estimated 1.4 million suicide attempts and more than 48,000 deaths by suicide If this isn’t alarming to you, check your conscience and realize that there is an evil spirit roaming the earth that doesn’t want any of us to live. This episode features two stories of redemption. One is a young lady we’ll call Em, who grew up as a Pastor’s daughter, and yet found herself in at the edge of suicide. The other is Lacey Sturm, a rockstar from the band, Flyleaf. At the age of 16, she found herself in the same valley. Their stories, while terrifying on many levels, will encourage your heart and empower your faith to break the spirit of suicide wherever you find it. If you have young people in your world, this hour could mean the difference between life and death, knowing what to look for, and learning how to respond when the warning sirens go off. You might have heard the phrase that seems to be everywhere these days that says, “Facts don’t care about your feelings.” It can make you think that our perspective of facts is the highest form of knowledge available. But if Jeremiah has anything to add it might be the revelation that God’s truth doesn’t care about our facts. So when communicating the heart of God, you will find yourself confronting both human feelings and human facts. We learn this in a growing process that often carries with it, growing pains. In a quest for the Kingdom of God, embracing the process of transformation is a non-negotiable necessity that produces a beautiful understanding of Kingdom reality.
