www.GoodMorningGwinnett.com The Gwinnett Coalition for Health and Human Services announced it is taking applications from organizations for funding to provide emergency food and shelter programs to Gwinnettians.
Applications for Phase 38 of the Emergency Food and Shelter Program will be made available at www.gwinnettcoalition.org starting Tuesday, and they must be filled out and submitted to the coalition by 4 p.m. on Dec. 14. There is $327,985 in funding available for the period running from Jan. 1 until May 31, 2021.
"Distribution of funds for the aforementioned jurisdiction will be determined by a local board consisting of representatives invited from, but not limited to, the following agencies: American Red Cross, Atlanta Jewish Federation, Catholic Social Services, Christian Council of Metro Atlanta, Gwinnett Coalition for Health & Human Services, St. Vincent de Paul and the United Way," Gwinnett Coalition for Health and Human Services officials said in an announcement. "The local board has the responsibility of recommending agencies to receive funds during Phase 38."
www.GoodMorningGwinnett.com Peachtree Corners City Councilman Phil Sadd is planning to give residents an opportunity to hear about Gwinnett County's transit referendum, COVID-19, crime prevention, flu shots and several other activities taking place in the city this week.
Sadd will host a virtual town hall meeting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Gwinnett County commission Chairwoman Charlotte Nash is expected to join the councilman for at least part of the online meeting with residents as she talks about the referendum, which is appearing on the Nov. 3 ballot.
“It is important that voters are provided with information about this referendum so they can make an informed decision,” Sadd said. “I have invited Gwinnett County Chairwoman Charlotte Nash to join me during the Town Hall to provide an overview of the referendum.
"We want to provide our citizens an opportunity to understand the proposal and be able to ask questions.”
The online meeting is expected to include an open question and answer session where residents can express concerns or ask questions about topics being discussed.

www.GoodMorningGwinnett.com The Gwinnett County Police Department will be undergoing an examination by a team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. beginning Aug. 10. CALEA will be examining all aspects of the police department’s policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services.
As part of the assessment, agency personnel and members of the community are invited to offer comment by phone 2 to 4 p.m. Aug. 11 at 770-513-5220. Comments will be limited to 5 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA standards.

www.GoodMorningGwinnett.com Protesters will march to the Gwinnett County Public Schools headquarters in Suwanee on Monday morning to protest against the district's plans for the 2020-2021 school year and school board chairwoman Louise Radloff's comment about strangling a colleague.
The Gwinnett Community March for Humanity is expected to last from 10:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., with protesters gathering at the Horizon Village Shopping Center, located at 2855 Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road in Suwanee. They will then march to GCPS' Instructional Support Center at 11 a.m. and hold a rally.
Chief among their goals is to call for a 100% virtual start to the school year in the county and to demand Radloff, who will already leave the school board when her term ends at the end of the year, step down after a hot mic moment in which she could be heard saying she "could strangle" fellow board member Everton Blair, who is the board's only African-American member.
Radloff told the Daily Post on Saturday that she was "out of order" for making the remark, which were made to Superintendent J. Alvin Wilbanks at the end of a school board meeting on Thursday.
