Self-discipline for today is Show up every day. Build your life action by action and be content if each one achieves its goals, as far as possible, and no one can keep you from this. We only fail because we fail to be consistent. Show up every day and give it your very best. Immerse yourself in your craft and you will build endurance, be more focused and will be able to endure the obstacles that get in the way. Don’t shy away from the hours you have to put in, motivate yourself again and again until you finally do it without thinking. If you fail once, this doesn’t define your character. Don’t be hard on yourself and continue to show up.

As per Aurelius, turn your desires to stone, quench your appetites, keep your mind centered on itself. In our pursuit to achieving a better self, we must be committed in our goals, its having the ability to set yourself to take action – to do what you need to do and be capable to change the route if so needed, without losing focus on your objective. It should not matter what you feel, what other people may think, if your pursuing your purpose in life then be it and take whatever measure to become happy. Create an effective plan of action – small goals will allow you not to succumb to being overwhelmed, procrastination and stagnation.

How do we build self discipline? Using one of my favorite stoics, Marcus Aurelius he teaches us how to build self discipline, which we can find in his book called meditations. One of the first thing he mentions is finding your purpose. He basically say’s that we have a job or an obligation that we must complete, so why complain. If I must do something for what I was born for, whatever destiny has instore for me don’t complain. But if you can discover your purpose in life, and we all have a purpose, it’s our duty to carry out that purpose. So set your goals, fulfill your purpose in life and be happy with what you do. Tomorrow our next self discipline is Count on yourself. MCP.com

Welcome to Mentor Coach Project Flash Brief, Why do we need a coach or a mentor? Marcus Aurelius, the roman emperor who was adopted by a man called Antoninus who in turn was adopted by the emperor Hadrian was basically commissioned to prepare Marcus to succeed Hadrian as an emperor. So Antoninus mentored Marcus presenting valuable lessons like compassion, unwavering adherence to decisions once he reached them, indifference to superficial honor, persistence, listen to anyone who wanted to contribute to the public good. A sense to when to push and when to back off. This mentoring made Marcus Aurelius great, what drove him to express his thoughts, weaknesses and trials in what became the book Meditations. We are never to meek or to great to have a mentor or coach in our lives. MCP.com
