The COVID-19 situation in the country has worsened with the third wave finding itself spreading like wild fire in our communities. This has led to the ministry of health putting across sensitization messages in attempts to create awareness to the public on how they should take precautions against COVID-19.

Businesses and well as supermarkets have not been left behind, they too are required to take part and adhere to the protocols to ensure that we curb the spread of this infectious disease. We visited some of the supermarkets and malls to take a look at the role they are playing to create awareness for the disease.

Here is Tom, a supervisor at west-end supermarket talking about the protocols enforced at the place.

(Insert 1)

Okay sisi tumeeka hio maji na sabuni watu waogee pale. Watu wakiingia ndani we usher them tuko na demarcation za one meter one meter, tumeeka posters za kuonyesha keep one meter one meter away yaani tunakeep social distance ya one meter, alafuu kukiwa na jam kuna mtu anawausher yaani anamake sure wameeka hio distance ya one meter. “

We also visited malls and had a word with the building manager at Golden Life Mall

(Insert 2)

(Mi naitwa Dauglous Onyara, I am the site manager Golden Life Mall. First of all tunasanitize and then tumetrain even the security ukipita hapo they take temperatures and also you sanitize, we have advertisement screens, if you go to those advertisement screens you will see that we are creating awareness that there is COVID and the rules and directions that you should follow when you are in the mall to combat this disease. We have singes the MOH on regard to the MOH regulations on what people are supposed to do that guide the public.”)

(Insert 3)

(

Sanitization has become a common thing in most of these establishments, the attendants and supervisors in these areas have taken precautions to ensure they don’t spread the corona virus

(Well, each and every personell has a face mask. We also have the sanitizers ourselves, each and every staff ako nayona still tumeeka sticker ya kuonyesha hakuna kushika shika bidhaa kama hununui. Kwa kila line, kuna line attendant ambaye anshugulikia hio yote, anaangalia customers, kama ni bidhaa ama kitu anataka bila kushika, anaelezewa bila kushika. Well, ikifika hapo huwezi sanitize pesa, ni very impossible lakini sasa our cashiers wako na hio sanitizers like wakishika pesa like one hour two hours ama 30 minutes wanasanitize.

Recently, the status of Nakuru town was raised from a town to a City. I took a walk in the new Nakuru City and asked the residents of their opinion now that their town is now a city. This is what they had to say.

Naitwa Robinson. Naona hio ni move mzuri kwa sababu itattaract investors from all over the country na pia tourists watakua attracted to this region. Na itaendeleza economy.

Naitwa Bitutu. We are in the cirry. Yees, Yaani hio inamaanisha tutakua wadosi very soon juu business zitaenda juu. Alafu mimi nlikua naona towns zingine ziko Nakuru zipelekwe Baringo county kama Mawanga.

Yeeeah, Mimi Nakuru kukua city kwangu hainisaidii juu hawa watu hawanipatii dooo, hawatutaftii kazi so, ikue city wakati kila mtu ako na job.Unaona? Hio itwaeza sana lakini saa hii hakuna doh, mimi hainisaidii.

These are some of the reactions from the residents, others are optimistic that the city will open up opportunities that the town could not offer while others have different opinions.
