Dave Koop is the senior pastor of Coastal Church, a non-denominational church meeting in the heart of an urban city center. Vancouver has become a mosaic of various cultures and the life of the church reflects that with more than thirty nationalities represented on any Sunday. The location of the church is at the cross roads of business and a high rise community. As a result one finds a cross section of people who work in the heart of city, those who live in the surrounding communities and others who love to come to the heart of the city.
Dating or courtship is a lot like a diamond. To make it sparkle it requires a lot of focus and patience to polish the many facets of a healthy relationship.
Greater things will happen when we listen to God and listen to those God has put in our lives. In Mark chapter four, Jesus tells the parable of a farmer planting seed. When His disciples asked about the meaning, He told them that if they didn't understand this parable they wouldn't understand the others. One of the key truths in this story is the principle of listening.
Jesus begins the parable with a one-word sentence in Mark 4:3: Listen!
The fruit of the Spirit are the family traits that are demonstrated in our life which leave a spiritual footprint in the world we live in. Galatians 5:22,23 says, "But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives, he will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control."
Proverbs 25:28 says, "A man with no control over himself is like a town with broken walls." In order to develop mental strength we need to first recognize we have an enemy. Victory over the enemy comes when we see that our lives need change, and have a desire to live right.
Praise and criticism tells us a lot about what people believe. Praise often reveals what you value most and criticism often reveals your deepest insecurities. In Ecclesiastes 7:5 (NLT) it says that "It is better to be criticized by a wise person than to be praised by a fool!"
God understands we're human and despite all of our shortcomings He is committed to the task of making our lives a masterpiece. Philippians 1:6 says "And I am sure that God, who began a good work within you, will continue His work until it is finally finished on that day when Christ Jesus comes back again."
We have a heavenly Father who sees the challenges in our lives and responds with protection, grace and truth. One of the names of God that describes His character is Jehovah Roi. David refers to this when he talks about our Lord being a loving shepherd.
Psalms 23:1,2 The Lord is my shepherd (Hebrew - raw-aw'); I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.
Jesus demonstrates the care of a shepherd.
We have a heavenly Father who sees our pain and has given us promises of healing. One of the names of God that describes His character is Jehovah Rapha. This attribute is first revealed in Exodus 15:26 when the children of Israel came out of Egypt and God declared: “I am the Lord that heals you.”
In this message pastor Dave Koop goes through 5 keys to healing: 1. Understand it is for you. 2. Understand you can’t separate the Healer from the Saviour, nor can you separate healing from salvation. 3. Ask the Father for healing according to His promises. 4. Let your words and actions demonstrate that you trust what your heavenly Father said. 5. Have others pray for you.
We check our financial and investment accounts. Today we will check our responsibility account – to God for the men He has put in our lives.
Those who understand that the character of God is to bring stability into their lives will go on to do great exploits.

1 Timothy 6:12 says we are to "Fight the good fight of faith". But who are we fighting? Satan is not some mythical character but is a very real enemy to all mankind. Christians who are aware of his schemes and understand their authority will be able to defeat the enemy every time.
It is essential to know that there is a real spiritual enemy out to destroy you, but you have been given authority and power over him.
It is a battle over your faith, your present or possible intimate relationship as a son or daughter of God.
In order to win the spiritual battles we will encounter in life it is important to know our weapons and how to use them.
Today we will focus on God’s word, which is referred to as the “sword of the spirit”.
This lesson builds on the understanding of our enemy, our spiritual authority and our weapons. The "Aircrew Survival Manual", used by the USA air force, lists key strategies for pilots that have been shot down. These strategies have a close spiritual correlation.
The first life that you must lead is your own. God allows you to choose the life He has to offer.
Deuteronomy 30:19 says, "Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, that you and your descendants might live!"

The trap of change is defined as "to slowly change the belief of an individual or society, by repeatedly delivering a shocking message until the victim is lulled into complacency. God wrapped the greatest present in such a way that all could receive it. In the Christmas story we find some of the main players were wrapped up in certain issues. They totally missed what God was doing. Today, we too can miss what God is doing when we get "wrapped up".

Eccl. 3:11 says that, "God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end."
We were made for more than just life on this planet, and God wants us to be thinking and acting in a way that sets us apart for all eternity.
We all have a sense of eternity in our heart, and we should think about what we have to look forward to.
Col. 3:1-2 says, "Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits at Godʼs right hand in the place of honor and power. Let heaven fill your thoughts. Do not think only about things down here on earth."

The cross and the empty grace are powerful symbols of the absolute victory that Jesus won over death and sin. His obedience made a way for us to come home to the Father.
The way we listen has a great impact on how to deal with disasters in life. In Mark chapter four Jesus tells a parable about a farmer who planted seed that landed on different types of soils. The parable has a lot to do with the way we hear.
Wherever Jesus went He brought life. We have the same nature as Jesus, so we too can bring life to others.
In order to give life to others we first must be connected to the true source of life. It is the nature of God to give life. Wherever Jesus went he brought life.
In order to go to the next level we first must hold the gains we have made in our lives and not relapse. To take ground is costly and requires a great output of energy. What we want to avoid is falling back or a relapse.
The life of Hezekiah is a rich example in the scripture of a man that had a mother train him to trust in God. In this message Pastor Cheryl Koop goes through six key strategies in trusting God that will impact our children.
Before you graduate to the next level, there will be tests you have to pass that are designed to prepare you for what’s ahead.

God has put into our DNA the potential for growth and success, which is unlocked as we delight in His word.
If the blessed and successful person is like a tree, then we can likely learn from the largest tree in the world. The largest and strongest living thing on the earth is the Giant Sequoia tree. They do not just survive but thrive.
In this message Pastor Cheryl Koop talks about learning to rest in the promises of God. In Matthew 11:28-30 Jesus says, "Come to Me, all you who labor and heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."
God established this special day at creation, and wants to us to take time to rest. This time off from our busy lives allows us to grow closer to Him and get refeshed.
Faith is the key to the ultimate rest. In Hebrews 4:3 (NLT) it says, "for only we who believe can enter his place of rest."
Believe it or not - you were created for and with rhythm! True rest can be found when we understand the rhythm of life.
Jesus taught us in Matthew 6:10 to pray “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven.” In praying this we are asking for two things: 1. A radical change in society. 2. A radical change within ourselves.
Our destiny is directly related to the understanding of our spiritual identity and the choices we make because of it.
Joseph is a great character in the Bible that demonstrates the principle of forgiveness versus taking revenge.
Luke 12:15 (from the Message translation) says, Speaking to the people, he went on, “Take care! Protect yourself against the least bit of greed. Life is not defined by what you have, even when you have a lot.”
It seems upside down, but Jesus taught us that in His kingdom we are to bless rather than curse others, and this includes our enemies.
God’s way will ensure a brighter future for you and your family! In this message Pastor Dave Koop uses the story of Jacob and Esau as an illustration of how to rule over your appetites, and not to allow them to rule over you. You have no idea what hangs in the balance of your decision to trade your future for a “bowl of stew”.
In the upside down kingdom we believe, despite what we see, that God’s word is true. Jesus told Thomas (John 20:29) that those who believe without seeing are blessed. In the kingdom we can be confident because God has approved us through what Jesus has done.
The foundation we build in our lives will determine our strength to endure the storms of life and fulfill our purpose.
God’s design of community is reflected in the early church, which had key components that made it healthy and very attractive.
We have this idea that if we are financially or relationally independent, we will be happy. But God had a better way when He designed our lives to be rich with community living interdependent with each other.
A healthy life group has what we call fellowship. This word is translated from the Greek word koinonia. Koinonia is translated into four essential elements for fellowship: 1. Community 2. Participation 3. Contribution and 4. Generosity. To do life together requires the element of generosity.
Small groups help us grow together because they are a place where we can affirm each otherʼs worth, be honest and open, and pray for each other.
The key to building great relationships can be summed up in the great commandment to love our neighbor as we love ourselves.
In this message pastor Carl-Gustav Severin from Sweden asks the question, who is packing your parachute? On this thanksgiving weekend it's good to reflect on those who have impacted our lives and encourage us to do great things.

The Holy Spirit is here to empower and guide us in the everyday decisions we struggle with. In this message Pastor Dave Koop goes through how can we tap into this power.

In this message Pastor David Koop talks about how the Holy Spirit can empower us to share our faith with a new confidence. The key scripture is Acts 1:8, which says, "But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."
Jesus gave us the order to “GO”. In Matthew 28:18-19 it says, "And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
Andrew is a great example of someone who boldly introduced others to Jesus. In this message Pastor Dave Koop examines who Andrew introduced to Jesus, and how it still applies today.
Christmas is rooted in family, and within each one of us there is a yearning for meaningful family relationships at this time of year.
Our real Christmas wish is that during this time we feel we are worthy of attention, and that we are important to someone else. Satan’s primary strategy is for us to value the opinion of others more than the truth of what God says about us. True significance can only come from living for Christ and not the approval of others.
Christmas is a busy season with celebrations. In all our activities there is an underlying craving to experience a pure joy, perhaps like we did as a child.

As devoted followers, Coastal Church will purpose to reflect Christ’s image to the world around us.
Pastor Dave Koop talks about how being devoted to God's word will help us live a healthy Christian life.
In this message Pastor Dave Koop looks at why the early church was so devoted in prayer. Key Verse: Acts 2:42 (NLT) - "They joined with the other believers and devoted themselves to the apostlesʼ teaching and fellowship, sharing in the Lordʼs Supper and in prayer."
Because of Godʼs great devotion to us, we can know we will never be forgotten. His unfailing love for us inspires our devotion to Him.
Using the key scripture Ephesians 3:14-21, Pastor Dave Koop shares about the revelation of God's love. This revelation gives us strength on the inside and enables our faith to grow!
The more we appreciate the magnitude of God’s forgiveness, the more devoted we are to Him. Text Luke 15:11-24
Because God is devoted to us, we can be confident that we have a great future. Jeremiah 29:11 (NKJV) says, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope." Godʼs challenge is not the storm but our faith.
This week we are excited to have pastor Carl-Gustav Severin from Uppsala, Sweden share a message of God's Hope for our future. Sometimes we're in situation that seems hopeless, but in those moments God steps up and promises to prosper us, and to give us a hope and a future.
This week we're excited to have Leon Fontaine, Pastor of Springs Church & CEO of the Miracle Channel share with us a message that's focused on challenging our belief systems. When we have a belief system of the heart that has been influenced by the Word of God and developed by the Holy Spirit, it enables us to live an overcoming life, free from the fears and insecurities we may face.
Today we hear more voices than ever, and they are all competing for us to listen to them. It is not just what we listen to, but how we listen and process what we heard that determines our success in life.
As we watch the evening news and read the paper we may feel that the world is out of control. Perhaps even our lives feel out of control. But despite what we might see God has a master plan. By understanding the special day that Jesus was resurrected on, we can have faith to trust Him with our future.
In this message we will reflect on Jesus Christ’s sacrificial death on the cross and celebrate His resurrection as Lord of Lords. A Ransom had to be paid for our great debt of sin and Jesus paid the highest price so that we could intimately know God the Father.
